Hi everyone! This is my first posted fanfic so I hope you enjoy!
I do not own Supernatural or Blue Exorcist as much as I may want to. . .
Takes place before Season 13 episode 3 in Supernatural and after Rin's trial with the Vatican.
Rewriting Destiny
Jack sat on the bed of his newly assigned room in the men of letters bunker. It seemed like a comfortable bed but since he was only a few days old and his only other sleeping experiences included a hotel bed and the backseat of Dean Winchester's car he didn't have much to compare it to. At the moment Jack was transfixed by the laptop screen, confused why people would spend more time staring at flashing lights instead of accomplishing something more fulfilling. As Jack became more and more engrossed in the story, he realized how much more he wasn't thinking about his current predicament. He assumed that was the reason for people's obsession and allowed himself to be swept away by the storyline. Jack was practically dead to the world until he heard something fall and someone yelling. He looked up to find the source of the commotion when he realized the noise hadn't been the Winchesters. It was in his room.
There was someone in his bedroom and they were not happy.
"Mephisto, what the heck!? You can't just send people through portals whenever you want to! You need to ask-" the boy continued to rant while Jack studied his new guest.
It was another boy who seemed about the same age Jack appeared to be but Jack knew better than anyone that appearances didn't signify age. He had shaggy, dark hair in contrast to Jack's which was lighter and well-kept. He was a few inches shorter than Jack and wore some sort of school uniform. While this boy's azure eyes read frustration and anger, Jack's light blue eyes were a mix of confusion and interest.
After a few more minutes the boy finally calmed himself down. He turned around and jumped as he noticed Jack for the first time. He looked like he wanted to yell again but instead sat on the floor in defeat. Jack followed the boy with his eyes in mild curiosity.
"Who are you?" the boy asked in a tired huff.
"I'm Jack," Jack answered with a smile, "but I would think I should ask you that as you mysteriously appeared in my room." There was no malice in his tone, only innocent intrigue.
The boy returned Jack's smile and held out a hand, "My name's Rin. Sorry to appear in your room so unexpectedly. I didn't really have a choice in the matter."
Jack took Rin's hand and they shook. Then Jack stiffened.
"You're not here to kidnap me are you?"
Rin tilted his head and gave Jack a look as if he had two heads and a tail.
"Why would I want to kidnap you?"
"It wouldn't be the first time someone wanted to either capture or kill me," Jack admitted matter-of-factly. "People and monsters want to use me because of who I am."
Rin started to laugh. "I've heard that one before!" he giggled as he wiped a tear from his eye. "What are you, the son of Satan?"
Jack's eyes widened as he moved away from Rin. "You said you didn't know!"
"You're serious? You're the son of Satan?" Rin's smile disappeared from his face but he stayed rooted to his spot on the floor.
"Yes, Lucifer is my father." Jack looked away, ashamed. His shame quickly turned to fear. If the Winchesters didn't interfere soon, Jack was scared he may lose control over his power again. But Rin did the unthinkable.
When Jack opened his eyes, he was greeted by Rin doubled over on the floor in uncontrollable laughter. This only confused Jack even more.
"What's so funny?"
Rin tried to speak but only ended up laughing again. Once it had died down to a few snorts, Rin explained, "I'm sorry I laughed. I was only joking before. The reason I guessed that is because I'm also the son of Satan."
Now Jack was completely lost. He was pretty sure he was Lucifer's first and that he didn't have a twin.
"I think Mephisto sent me to a completely different dimension than my own. But I guess you still have monsters and Satan here too." Rin breathed a heavy sigh and scratched the back of his head, "This is what you get when your principal is the demon king of time and space." Then Rin flashed a huge grin to Jack, showing off his elongated canines, "I guess this makes us brothers! Sort of. . ."
As Rin started to trail off again, Jack went back to his original spot on the bed. It was refreshing to meet someone not trying to kill him. Suddenly, Jack's attention shifted to something moving behind Rin. Rin seemed to follow Jack's gaze and explained, "Oh, this is my tail. Don't you have one too?" Jack shook his head in the negative.
"You know, now that you mention it, you don't seem to have any demon characteristics," now Rin was confused alongside Jack.
"Why would I have any demon in me? I'm a Nephilim. I'm half human and half angel."
Rin nodded as if in understanding. Did he figure something out about Jack? When he looked back up at Jack he smiled, "I find that if I don't try to think about things too much I won't get as confused. My brother's better with all of this thinking stuff. I usually just nod and go along with it."
It was Jack's turn to laugh. As he calmed himself down Rin explained, "In my world, or dimension, or- whatever, Satan is the king of Hell so I'm half human and half demon which is why I have a tail and pointy teeth. I'm also the only one of his son's to inherit his power which is why both demons and humans are either trying to capture or kill me. I guess it's pretty much the same for you."
Jack nodded. "I'm only a few days old. While I was in my mother's womb, she felt that if I didn't grow up soon I would get hurt so I aged myself quickly. Ever since I've been chased, hunted, used, and even stabbed. I'm not sure what to do," he confessed.
Rin stood up and sat down next to Jack on the bed, placing a hand on his shoulder. Jack turned to face him.
"I only awakened my demonic power a few months ago and it's been pretty much the same for me. I'm still learning how to control Satan's flames so I don't accidently hurt anyone."
Jack nodded in understanding. "There's this guy here," Jack curled into himself, suddenly feeling scared again, "he really doesn't like me. Every time he looks at me he looks like he's barely stopping himself from killing me. Every time he talks it's either about killing me or how I'm not even a person."
Jack felt a sudden squeeze in his shoulder where Rin's hand was. When he looked, he found Rin's hands and hair slightly smoking. The other boy took a deep breath to control his anger and the smoke quickly died down. He bowed his head, his hair blocking his eyes. When he spoke again, his voice was dark.
"There are many people who will refuse to see you as human. They will immediately assume you and your power are evil because you come from evil. They will alienate you and try to kill or control you." Rin suddenly stood up and smiled at Jack. "But it doesn't matter what those losers think. They don't get to determine your fate.
"Only you decide how you want to use your power. Don't let anyone tell you what your fate is, got it?!"
Jack felt a tug at his lips. "That's what my mom told me in her video."
Rin resumed his position on Jack's bed. "You have a smart mom."
The two boys sat in comfortable silence for a few minutes until a multicolored orb appeared in the middle of the room. Rin stood up and walked toward it. "Guess this is my ride," he muttered. Before stepping into the portal, Rin turned back to Jack.
"I can't promise it will get better right away. Heck, I'm still trying to convince the people I was forced to reveal my power to that I'm still the same person they met at the beginning of the year."
Jack lowered his head. Was there any hope that this would get better?
"But I'm not going to give up, Jack, and neither should you. I'm going to prove that I can fight and defeat Satan. I'm going to show them all that I can be the best exorcist in the world!
"Never give up, Jack. Cherish the people who will stand by your side and put your faith in those who become your friends." With a smile and a thumbs up, Rin jumped through the portal.
As the portal disappeared, Jack returned the gesture. He already knew it would be a long road. He knew his future held frustration and fear. But there will be times he can bring himself to laugh and have fun. For all those times yet to come he would push through, just like he promised Rin.
