Hello there.
I'm Vidrio, as you probably already know.
I wrote this story a few years ago... but in my native lenguage. I'm from a Spanish-talking country and (as you are about to find out) I'm not very good at English .
If you ask me about the story, I will probably tell you that there are a few issues with it. The vocabulary is a little bit too elaborated, and that make it strange when you are reading it.
Anyway, if you find something you believe I should work on, fell free to leave a coment with your sugestions (or insults, whatever works better for you).
Also, I would thank if a English native speaker find something related with the lenguage that make his/her eyes to blow up and find the time to explain it to me in a comment.
Hope you will enjoy it
Disclaimer: I OBVIOUSLY don't own Teen Titans
"Beast Boy, it is ... beautiful... "
''I told you.'' The shapeshifter showed a pinch of pride, no arrogance, just a little pride.. Raven kept silent, the vision that opened before her completely absorbed her. She could never have thought that someone like Beast Boy could keep a "secret" like this for himself. The sorceress was not often left speechless, but the beauty of the image extended before her was something that was not seen every day. She was really amazed at the greatness of what the green boy had managed to show her.
Before it stood the city of Jump City, well ... rather beneath it. As she flew so high that her shadow could be seen in the windows of the top floor of the large skyscrapers. Beast boy tilted his head down. letting Raven see the actual height they were traffic flooding the streets had become tiny, insignificant. Just a few small objects that produced a noise that could easily be lost between the whisper of the wind in the heights. Funny to think there were probably hundreds of angry drivers down there that Cyborg used to argue with. There ... as high as Beast Boy had set out to take her, none of that was relevant.
The changeling reared his head again, directing his gaze at a small flock of ducks that fled before his presence. He felt the pride of the green titan swell before her. But, far from reproaching him for how ridiculous it was to feel fulfilled for having frightened a few birds ... she understood. Her own pride had been satisfied to see those inferior birds flee in panic at the sight of her presence. It was the natural order of things, the ducks had to fear him... they had to fear her.
This last thought felt a little strange to the sorceress. All her life she had fled from the fear of others. And now she liked the idea of frightening helpless ducklings to the point that they would break formation instantly upon seeing her. It felt weird, but okay. People never had any real reason to be scared of her, but those birds did. They had to be afraid of her, it was as it should be, it was in their nature, and in her nature to be proud of it. She allowed himself to focus on the power of her new condition. The breadth of his wings, the strength of his legs, the depth and sharpness of her vision, the precision of her predatory eye, the finesse of her ear... felt truly good.
She refocused on the beautiful landscape of the city that Beast Boy had allowed her to contemplate. The sun was already setting and gave the small clouds that bathed the sky a relaxing color between orange and gold. The rays that escaped between the silhouette of some skyscrapers became somewhat annoying to the shape-shifter, but at the same time they turned the air surrounding them into a smooth fluid of cheerful color, in which flying was a pleasure that exceeded the human. A pleasure that felt better knowing that she was the only one Beast Boy had shared it with... for some reason.
Of course, it's not like he could do it with anyone else. And that thought made the sorceres's heart shrink a little.
Beast Boy could feel it. The closeness they shared allowed them to feel everything in each other's minds. The changeling turned the flight to the ledge of the skyscraper, and landed there. Raising his neck he beheld the reflection of the crystal: a majestic white head eagle...a green white head eagle. That irony amused the sorceress, which caused the green boy to flap his wings to get Raven a better look at the curious color of skin that was so funny to her.
''I admit it, Beast Boy.'' She recognized . ''You were right, I had no idea what flying truly was''
The sun would not take more than half an hour to set. And in tower T, everyone was preparing to perform the last tasks of that day. Cyborg was preparing dinner (which would probably consist of an unhealthy amount of meat), Starfire was trying to convince the half-robot to let her help him in the kitchen, And the laborious task of getting the alien princess to give it up fell on Robin's shoulders. And it's that Robin really loved his girlfriend, but he also loved life, and he didn't want to die intoxicated with whatever the redhead was planning to prepare.
Raven, however, was not in the common room, disgusted that the noise from the kitchen would not allow her to meditate calmly, she had decided to leave. She had headed for the roof of the tower. At first she thought it would be better to meditate in his room, where no one would dare interrupt her with irrelevant matters. But then she concluded that it would be nice to feel the fresh air while exercising his meditative tasks. Not like you were likely to meet someone at the top of the building at that time.
To think that was a mistake.
She hadn't sat on the floor for fifteen minutes when she felt the roof door open. At first he thought it would be Starfire to warn him that dinner was ready. But the hum of the green mutant quickly proved her wrong.
''What are you doing here, Beast Boy?'' Raven said annoyingly. Surely the boy had found nothing better to do than to go and bother her while the others were busy.
''Hello Raven'' The boy walked smiling without answering the sorceress. ''Meditating?''
''You didn't answer my question.'' She continued clenching her teeth. He was already bothering her and he had barely opened her mouth.
''Well, I was bored and ... '' That got the sorceress to open her eyes and frown. There was the idiot telling her nonsense, how she hated being right! She was about to tell the mutant to get lost when she heard something that caught her eye. ''... so I decided to take a flight.'
Raven had slightly separated lips and a raised eyebrow. 'Fly? Have you been out flying? But what kind of new stupidity are you coming up with, Beast Boy?' ''Excuse me ... '' Raven whispered, intrigued ''But … where are you flying?''
''Wherever '' The mutant stretched his arms and torso without looking at the sorceress. ''There is no fixed course... ''
''Umm'' Raven lowered his arms to the ground. With eyes fixed on his teammate . ''So you're going for a ride...''
''Flying '' He pointed out.
''And why?'' Raven didn't bother to tone down. ''You don't usually do that kind of thing, you don't do quiet things to kill time, you only resort to your ridiculous and childish hobbies like videogames.''
''First of all...'' Beast Boy turned. ''Videogames are not childish, they're fun! And second of all, and even though you never noticed, I like to fly out a couple days a week.'' And he started walking towards the edge of the roof.
''Why do you keep pointing out that you're going flying?''
''Well, flying is funnier than walking.'' Raven had already forgotten about her meditation, she really didn't understand the mutant's point.
''No, it's not! '' She was a little exasperated. ''Flying is exactly as fun as walking but a few meters higher.'' The green boy turned to look at her in a neutral way before showing a smile that made him look like he was holding his breath. A glimmer of arrogance became visible in his eyes. It would have been a cute expression, if I hadn't had it Beast Boy ... Beast Boy wasn't cute ... Right?
''I'm sorry, Raven. '' He said, keeping that stupidly high level of pride in his voice. ''You could never understand''
''And why couldn't I?'' That attitude on the part of the mutant was already pissing her off.
''You don't fly.'' 'Oh, okay! This idiot has already gone too far ' Raven said to herself as she wrapped the mutant with his black energy and brought it close to her, to stare athim furiosly. Which the boy didn't respond to.
''Listen to me carácter carefuly'' Raven said, gritting her teeth. ''Maybe I do not have the ability to fly as Starfire, but I do not see how it's different from my levitation. Besides, who are you to judge my abilities? You couldn't fly either if you couldn't become a dove or something.''
Beast Boy just kept looking at the sorceress with self-reliance, generating her to start grinding her teeth. The mutant lost the pride of his gaze when he sensed a faint smell of sulfur in the air, from his experience that only happened when Raven was about to get really angry. He smiled nervously at the cold expression of hatred and pure rage that the purple-haired gir was giving him. He tried softly to break the grip of the sorceress, but failed, so he understood that it was better to speak now, just in case this was his only chance to speak his last words.
''Actually.'' He started talking trying not to look scared, and failing .''Starfire doesn't know what flying is either. ''
" Okay, that's enough" Raven raised one hand wrapped in her dark energy to strike her green friend unconscious, but was interrupted.
''If I may finish, before you send me to the darkest known dimension ...'' Beast Boy sweated before his teammate, who nodded softly. She'd always have time to kill him anyway. ''Neither Starfire nor you with your powers, nor Cyborg or Robin with the technology, nor the plane pilots, not even the astronauts know what it is to fly ... Do you know why?''
''No ...'' Raven wanted to end that meaningless conversation so she could take it out on the mutant for all his nonsense. No one questions her abilities, much less him who had fought by his side for so many years. ''But I suppose you'll explain it to me ...''
Boy Beast, still terrified, was able to regain his haughty smile and look back at those purple orbs of the sorceress with pride. Raven never heard the shapeshifter speak so confidently until that moment. ''Because no one knows what it is to fly until it does it through the eyes of a white-headed eagle.'' Silence fell between them. The gaze of Beast Boy did not show at any time a descent of his pride, neither Raven's of her fury ... of course she did not release it either. They remained like this for a few more minutes, both lookong in each other's eyes.
'Why does this idiot have to look so handsome when he thinks he's right? What the hell are you thinking Raven!' That idea caused some rocks on the roof to rise a couple of inches off the ground. The shapeshifter looked down realizing it, but made no comment. Raven thanked that internally. Slowly, the sorceress brought her companion down again, releasing him from the energy that oppressed him. She answered with a less rabid tone.
''Well, since you have no way to probe that claim, we won't be able to verify which one of us is right.'' That said, the sorceress set out to regain her meditative position. Beast Boy hesitated for a few seconds before looking back at Raven and marking his smile even more. ''Yes, there is.'' - Raven opened her eyes again, with an eyebrow raised. ''Excuse me?''
''There is a way that you can understand what I say.'' Raven did not change her expression, inviting the mutant clearly to clarify his point. Beast Boy raised his left hand slowly, to the height of his forehead, just above his eyebrow. And he tapped his finger into his own skull, without letting his smile fade. ''Contact my mind.''
Raven's eyes opened so quickly that the it scare the mutant. ''What?!'' The sorceress screamed incredulously.
''Contact my mind.'' The green boy repeated. ''That way you would be able t osee what I see and fell what I fell, right?
''Beast Boy!'' The sorceress rebuked him. ''That kind of connection in very ... intimate.''
''We have been living together here for years Raven.'' Beast Boy did not seem to understand the point of his companion. ''I do not think it's that a big deal.''
''Connecting two minds is something much closer than knowing each other's tastes about pizza.'' Raven was a little shaky on the shoulders, very uncomfortable having that conversation.
''You did it with Robin'' The mutant seemed to still not understand what they were talking about, 'How can he be such an idiot?'
''That was something completely different!'' Raven blew up. ''I did it because there was no choice! Do you really not understand?! '' She took a step closer to the green boy, who remained impassive. ''If we did, we could feel everything the other guy feels! Not just in body, but in spirit!'' Beast Boy remained undeterred. '' There wouldn't be any privacy! … ''
''And? '' She was interrupted. Raven was quiet looking at him, she wasn't expecting that reaction. '' I'm not worried that you might "feel" me, Raven. That's the point. I have nothing to hide, nothing I don't want you to know. And I can't imagine anything you should be hiding from me, either.'' Raven held her place for a few seconds, the air seemed to tense as the sorceress hardened her gaze before shortening the distance between her and her companion by taking a single step.
''You do not know what you say. '' Her tone was cold as ice, and sharp as a knife. -'You can't understand what you're suggesting. This is not just about knowing what the other person thinks, or being able to read the emotions that cross the mind of the other. No. This goes even further.'' Beast Boy could swear that Raven was trying to frighten him, but the eyes of the sorceress seemed to tell him otherwise. ''If I did it, I could know everything about you ... everything. What you like or dislike. The things you want, and the things you hate. I would find the secrets you keep from everyone, even from yourself. I could know what your heart craves most, even if you don't. I would know the fears that cause your soul to wriggle. I would feel everything you have felt: joy, anger and pain. I would learn from the dark depths of your mind that make you hate yourself. I would know what it's like to be you, because I would be you. Are you sure you want me to do that to you, Beast Boy? - Raven held her eyes for a second before concluding. ''Or you to me?'' Beast Boy didn't blink before answering.
''When do we start?''
Raven never knew exactly why she did it. She would have liked to believe it was curiosity, althought it was probably pride, but she wasn't sure either. The only truth is that when an eagle flew off the roof that afternoon, two different spirits could feel its wings.
''You should listen to me more often Raven.'' Beast Boy turned to look at the ground from the height of the skyscraper.
''Maybe I Will from no won, Beast Boy''. They both looked at the pavement through the eyes of the emerald-colored bird. The sorceress could then feel a feeling of sadness running through the young man. She understood instantly why, his teammate knew that the intimacy they shared was soon to end. And the idea of separating made him feel devastated, as if it was his own soul that was going to split in two. She also shuddered at the thought of losing contact with him. They both wanted to stay that way forever. And they both knew they couldn't. ''We must go back.'' It was her who ended it up. She was stronger tan him for this kind of thing. He didn't even answer, he just started flying back.
Raven could have broken mental contact at any moment, but she wanted to take the last few minutes of that sweet feeling. She felt complete, that she was not alone, and she would never be alone again. The return journey was way more dull than their first journey. The darkness would have already filed the sky.
Finally, they reached the roof. As she arrived, Raven could distinguish her own silhouette a few meters away. It was strange to see his own body from other eyes. But stranger was to feel the transformation of Beast Boy into his human form. The predator's instincts vanished from within, and she was hit by a sense of heaviness that made her believe that she could never be able to get up again.
Two seconds later she felt she would have to stop breathing. The smells of the entire roof invaded her: salt from the sea water, pollen from Starfire plants, meat that Cyborg cooked several plants below, ... and ...
''Is that me?'' The enchantress asked. ''Yes.'' The changeling answered. ''That's your smell'' Raven then felt the biggest shame of her entire life when she realized something. Beast boy liked her smell... a lot.
The mutant walked towards the body of the sorceress who sat on the floor. He sit down to keep up with her, the chilling sensation of seeing her own face from other eyes was a sign to Raven that she had already gone too far. And broke the bond immediately.
Beast Boy groaned at the sense of emptiness that invaded him as he lost touch with the presence of his companion, and could not help but bend to join his forehead with hers, desperate to regain his closeness. He felt the sorceress turn her head slightly, causing their noses to rub slightly, as she gently stroked her forearm.
They missed each other.
They were fase to face, and they missed each other.
The mutant raised his free hand to the sorceress' neck, who wept weakly at contact, shedding a small tear from her violet eyes. She cursed herself in a low voice. She knew that giving in to that request was a mistake. She knew she shouldn't have. Now they both felt desolate. Their spirits could only sense the hole left in each other's souls. They felt alone, and nothing could be done to prevent it.
The feeling of Beast Boy's warm breath forced her to open her eyes. The mutant's dilated pupils reflected the little light on the roof. His gaze looked so lost ... on her. Raven squeezed the grip gently on her partner's forearm, as she felt one tear just slid down her cheek... to fall on Beast Boy's lips.
They stood still for a few seconds, lost in each other's eyes. Before Raven wiped out the few millimeters that separated their lips.
And for the second time in a day their souls became one, never to be separated again.
So, what do you think?
