CHAPTER 1
Suddenly, there was a "thump" on the car window. Surprised, Isabella turned to see Phineas standing in the road, smiling and looking at her, while Ferb and Vanessa were in a yellow sports car in the next lane.
"Phineas!" Isabella exclaimed, rolling down her window before getting out of her car. "What are you doing?"
Phineas tenderly put his hands on the side of her face and simply said "This," before pulling her to him and kissing her. Shocked, Isabella stood there for a moment and almost forgot to return the kiss, but the heavenly feeling of his lips on hers continued and she lost herself in the bliss, wrapping her arms around his neck and closing her eyes. I'M FINALLY KISSING PHINEAS FLYNN!, she thought. Dimly, she could hear Vanessa and Ferb talking and then the sound of a car pulling away, but she was too far into Phineas's kiss to care. Now THIS is something I could get used to.
Unfortunately, the moment did have to end, as they both needed to breathe. "Well," Isabella said, before opening her eyes to gaze back into Phineas's deep blue ones. "That was worth the wait."
"Yes, yes it was," replied Phineas, with his cute little half-smirk half-smile plastered onto his face. They both went in for another kiss.
However, this time she noticed something...different, about the kiss. Sure, the fireworks show inside Isabella's head still happened, as big and bright as the first kiss, but now she realized certain thoughts were entering her head, thoughts she didn't fully recognize. It almost seemed like...memory flashes?
*Her eight-year-old self walking into the Flynn-Fletcher backyard like usual. "Hi Phineas! Whatcha doin'?"
"Turning Perry's involuntary reflex into a sporting event" The baseball flying away. "Whoa, mama, nice shot Isabella!"*
*Teen Candace asking where the boys were when they were playing platypult badminton, right after the platypult disappeared*
*The boys coming out of a random portal in the park, along with Candace, Perry the Platypus standing on two legs wearing a fedora, and a man in a lab coat who looked somewhat like a pharmacist*
*Riding on a flying pink unicorn fighting robots spewing into the sky from the top of a building vaguely shaped like Ferb's head*
*"It's weird that Perry's a secret agent, huh?"
"Yeah, but it was obvious in retrospect."*
*"Umm, Major Monogram?"
"Uh, yes?"
"So, none of us will remember any of today?"
"That's right."
"Good."
Turning and planting a huge kiss on Phineas's lips, shocking him completely out of his mind for a moment.
"Isabella!"
"Hit it Carl!"
"Wait, wait, wait...!"*
Suddenly, there is a black spot, before the entire situation switched again, with her, Phineas, Ferb, Candace, and Vanessa now on top of the vaguely-Ferb's head-shaped building and tons of those pharmacists roaming the streets everywhere, acting like zombies (pharmazombies?) moaning "Lots of me!"
*"Wow look at that. We may be the only ones left...Oh no, the line is breaking! We're not gonna make it!"
"We have to! If we don't make it, Danville falls!"*
*"We're not gonna make it!"
"No, you and Isabella will make it."
"Ferb, no! FERB!"
"Phineas, no, don't touch him!"
"It's Ferb, I can't just-"
"I know, but the only way to save him is to keep going. Come on!"*
*"Phineas, ahh!"
"Hang in there, Isabella, we're almost there!"
"It's just, if this is the end, there's something I have to tell you!"
"O-ok, shoot."
"For the longest time, I-"
"Come on, there it is!"
"But, Phineas, PHINEAS! I...LIKE YOU!"
"I like you too Isabella!"
"No, I mean, I like you like you!"
"Wow, I mean...gosh, I...I've always felt..."
"AAAAAHHHH!"
"Get away from her!"
"PHINEAS, NO!"
"GO!...lots of me."*
Simultaneously, Phineas and Isabella broke the kiss and stumbled backwards, gasping for air as they subconsciously compiled all their new (old?) memories from what they recognized as one particularly extraordinary summer 10 years ago.
"Isabella, I...you kissed me before! And told me your feelings! And both of those memories were erased from my mind!"
Embarrassed, she turned to Phineas and sighed as she ran her hand through her hair. "Well, the first was because we weren't supposed to know Perry was actually a secret agent. As for the second...I still have no idea."
Behind them, a yellow sports car came roaring back up the street, and Ferb warily stepped out, head still spinning slightly.
"Ferb! Do you remember Perry too?" Phineas exclaimed, and Ferb shot him a thumbs-up. "But how? I mean, you literally just kissed Vanessa like 10 minutes ago in front of our house, why didn't it work then?"
"Well, he was watching you two kiss as we drove away, maybe it triggered…whatever it was?" Vanessa answered from the driver's seat.
Phineas scratched his neck and shrugged. "I mean, I guess so, but I'm not - Wait! Vanessa! Your dad built the machines taking away our memories from those two days, maybe he knows what happened?"
Ferb quirked his eyebrow and held up two fingers "Two?"
"Oh, yeah…" Phineas ducked his head embarrassedly. "Remember how Isabella and I both didn't remember what happened after building the vortex sprayer on the night of the pharmaceutical zombies?"
Ferb nodded his head as Vanessa sighed in the background, "Really, we're going back to pharmacists again?"
"Well, we somehow got those memories back too and, well...uh..."
"I confessed my feelings for him at the top of the tower, right after you sacrificed yourself to get us up there, Ferb. Of course, he tossed the moment aside to save me from a zombie, at the price of being turned himself, and then I had to go and save Danville by myself," Isabella finished for him, smirking at Phineas's continued bashfulness.
"Good going, Phineas," Ferb chuckled as he shook his head, enjoying the embarrassment of his stepbrother.
"Yeah, yeah, I know, Mr. Oblivious right here,' replied Phineas, seemingly half-jokingly and half-despondently. "Broke the laws of physics whenever I wanted but couldn't see my best friend having a crush on me for 10 years."
Isabella wrapped her arm around Phineas. "More like 14 years, I just didn't act on it for the last 4," she teased him, making sure he knew she wasn't upset with him by kissing him lightly on the cheek.
"Hey Phineas," Vanessa called from the sports car. "If you want, I can take you down to my dad's place and see if he knows why this happened."
"Thanks, Nessa, I really appreciate it!" Phineas responded, while Isabella just nodded to her. Ferb got back into the sports car, but Phineas turned to Isabella. "Can I join you for the ride down to Dr. D's place?"
"Why, Phineas, I thought you'd never ask," she responded as she grinned and opened the door for him.
*Doofenshmirtz Hmm-hmm Incorporated*
"Hey Nessa, what's up with your dad and the jingle? Is he going to have it play whenever someone enters the penthouse? Do the other people who live here hear it? And what's up with the 'hmm-hmm'?" Phineas asked.
"Ugh, it's just my dad being my dad, yet again," Vanessa answered, rolling her eyes. "Back when he thought he was evil, it used to be 'Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated', but after he took the job at…well, I guess you would know about it now. Ever since he was (briefly) an agent for O.W.C.A., before becoming a high school science teacher, he had to give up trying to be evil. Turns out, he's just a scientist after all, not an evil scientist. But he never got rid of the recording, he says it reminds him of the good times from those days." She got out her extra key and entered the penthouse apartment.
"Vanessa! Why are you here, I thought you were supposed to be out on a date? Did something go wrong? Do I need to speak with your boyfriend?" Heinz asked, glaring at Ferb as he got up from his couch where he was sitting next to Agent P with, strangely, two parachutes leading to the deck outside.
As Vanessa rolled her eyes at her dad's antics, Perry saw his boys and Isabella enter the room and quickly tried to whip off his fedora, drop down to all fours, and unfocus his eyes. He chattered nervously as the boys noticed him.
Phineas grinned, walked over to the platypus, and hugged him. "Hey, Perry, don't worry. We remember the day we spent going to the second dimension and fighting those robots together. You don't need to hide from us now."
Perry looked between Phineas, Ferb, Isabella, and Vanessa, the last of whom subtly nodded to confirm Phineas was telling the truth. Perry then stood up on his hind legs again and focused his eyes, putting the fedora back on.
"You know, I still don't know how I never realized Perry is pretty much the only platypus in the Tri-State Area, except for the ones I made of course, and I still couldn't recognize him without the fedora on," commented Heinz.
Isabella grinned as she grabbed Phineas's hand. "See, Phineas, there are people even just in Danville who can be just as oblivious as you."
"Ah, you two finally got together?" Heinz smiled at Phineas, even as Phineas sighed and mock-glared at Isabella, who just laughed. "Geez, it seemed like you were never going to notice her feelings for you, I even thought you might have been hit by my De-Love-Inator Satellite at some point."
All four sets of human eyes and one set of platypus eyes immediately focused on Heinz. "What?" he said nervously. "It only was in orbit for a night when I went out on a date. I think it only fired once, unfortunately on my evil date for the night, but I wasn't completely sure it was the only time."
"Why would you make a satellite for de-loving?" Isabella asked, her mood quickly changing from amused to furious as she considered the implications. If the satellite is the reason Phineas was so oblivious for all these years…
Heinz cringed at the look she was giving him. "Well, I was trying to be evil back then, but I also was lonely, so if my date didn't go well, I was going to make sure everyone else's love life was also ruined." He confessed. "The date went spectacularly, she was also as evil as I had thought I was, so I let Perry the Platypus destroy it. Of course, it didn't burn up in re-entry after de-orbiting and somehow crashed mostly intact into the Danville pier, where it fired off one burst directly into my date before falling apart. She stopped having all feelings for me right then, crushing my heart."
"Serves you right," responded Isabella, only partially mollified.
"Yes, yes, I know. Just one of the things the universe did to me trying to tell me not to be evil. And I doubt it would've worked out anyway, what with her actually being evil and me now being a good guy."
Phineas sighed. "As much as we'd love to hear the story, do you remember how you built the Amnesia-inator and the Repulse-inator?"
"The Amnesia-inator?" Heinz looked confusedly at Phineas. "I remember building the Repulse-inator, regardless of how much I don't want to, but I don't remember building an Amnesia-inator."
"But you – oh, right, you had your mind wiped as well." noted Phineas. "But why did they need to get rid of your memories? You already knew Perry was a secret agent, was it to keep us safe from you as his owners? Or was it because O.W.C.A. didn't want you to remember going to the second dimension?"
Heinz was still nonplussed. "I went to the second dimension? What would've caused O.W.C.A. to remove my memories?"
"Maybe because the other-dimensional version of you was actually evil, and he did manage to take over the Tri-State Area? Maybe O.W.C.A. didn't want you to learn from him?" suggested Vanessa.
Phineas looked at Ferb questioningly, and Ferb whispered back, "Briefed her on the way here." Phineas nodded in response.
"Really? Wow, how did he succeed where I had failed so often?"
Phineas groaned, "Oh, for crying out loud, Doc!" but he was suddenly silenced by Isabella as she pulled his head down to hers and kissed him. I'm SO going to enjoy this, preferably as often as possible, she thought to herself.
"Wait, what are you – oh, wow. My head…it's spinning. Why are there…?" Heinz moaned, but then became pensive. "Wait, I do remember having an Amnesia-inator now! And wow, the other dimension me only lost Choo-choo, how did it cause him to go so evil? I mean, I was literally raised by South American wildcats and neither of my parents made it to my birth! I had so many more emotionally scarring backstories!"
"Good to have you back, Dad," quipped Vanessa, smiling at her father.
Ferb pulled at Isabella's sleeve, and she released Phineas as they both turned to look at Ferb. "He remembers."
"Wait, so watching us kiss has restored the memories from the wipe? Do you know why this might have happened?" Phineas asked Heinz.
"Well, I mean, it was the last thing to happen before the Amnesia-inator went off, so it's possible," replied Heinz. "Although to be sure, I need to know how I built the Amnesia-inator, and obviously I don't remember building it."
Right then, Norm's giant robot head poked through a doorway. Isabella shrieked softly and jumped behind Phineas, who put his arm around her as he stared at Norm, both remembering the head from the second-dimension Normbots. However, Norm simply said "But I have the recording of you making it, Dad!"
"Dad?" Phineas mouthed to Ferb and Vanessa; Ferb shrugged and Vanessa just mouthed back "Don't get me started."
"Oh, thanks, Norm! Yeah, give it here." Norm walked over and ejected a disc from his metal body before dropping it in Heinz's hand. "Here you go, Dad! I think you will enjoy watching this!"
Perry had a small smile on his face, as he remembered the immediate aftermath of what had happened the day Heinz had tried to make everyone forget what they had done and what they were going to do. He was attempting to get his brother Roger, the mayor, to announce him as the ruler of the Tri-State Area.
"And now, Towelly the Hand Towel, my practice stand-in for Perry the Platypus today, behold, THE AMNESIA-INATOR! I made it with a bunch of parts I salvaged from the Delete from My Mind-inator, as well as some random junk from the De-Love-Inator satellite I found lying around."
Everyone watching the recording turned and looked at Heinz, who defensively said "Well I had used the Delete From My Mind-inator to try to remove an embarrassing viral video of my younger self from everyone's mind, but I think something happened right before I hit the button, because I can't remember what I deleted but it wasn't the video." Scowling, the kids all turned back to the recording.
"It makes everyone forget what they have done during the day, as well as any plans they had for later in the day." Dr. Doofenshmirtz walks around to the front of the -inator while looking at it. "Well, in theory at least, I really haven't had the chance to test this out…ah, well, I'll just have to wait and see. Norm, are you getting this!"
"Yes, yes I am."
"Great, can you toss me a muffin there?"
"Sure thing, Dad! It will be just like we're playing catch."
"No no Norm, so not what I meant!"
The muffin hits the "activate" button on the -inator remote control, and it shoots a beam directly at Dr. Doofenshmirtz, who falls to the ground motionless for a second, before standing up looking confused.
"Oh, hey, an -inator all ready to go! Thanks, past me!" He activates the -inator again, only for it to hit himself again, as he falls down again.
"Well, this is odd. Norm, did I build this -inator standing in front of me?"
"Yes, yes you did."
"Huh, I wonder what it does!" *he falls down again*
At this point, everyone in the room except for Heinz is laughing. "Well, I guess now I know why I never remembered I had ever built the machine." He stopped, looking at everyone guffawing while watching him fail repeatedly and scowled. "Haha everybody, laugh it up at my past mistakes."
After a few more tries with similar results, Dr. Doofenshmirtz finally looks at the -inator and says "Oh, I see I made myself an Amnesia-inator…now, why would I build one?" As he leans back against the -inator, it accidentally starts rolling towards the balcony. When it hits the edge, it flips over, right into an arriving Perry the Platypus, whose glider accidentally hits the "activate" button. The beam fires straight up, right into the face of Dr. Doofenshmirtz, who was leaning over the balcony watching in despair. Perry watches him fall down, and then say, "Oh, man, what was I doing again?"
*Meanwhile, down on the ground and unbeknownst to anybody but Perry, Carl the unpaid intern happened to be walking by after grabbing lunch for Major Monogram, and he noticed a mattress delivery outside Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated. Suddenly, what could only be an -inator fell from the sky and landed unharmed on the mattress. Carl looked at the name emblazoned on the side. "Hmmm, this has potential," he muttered, and immediately called for agents to pick up the -inator to bring it to O.W.C.A.*
"So, as to answer your question, I think I might have a hypothesis as to why everyone's memories are returning after watching you two kiss. The Delete from My Mind-inator removes whatever was last on your mind right before you press the button. Now, I imagine the two of you," and here Heinz smiled and indicated to the blushing Phineas and Isabella, "have thought about kissing each other many times in the last 10 years, but I suspect some interference from the random junk in the De-Love-Inator satellite made it so you had to both do AND think whatever happened right before the button on the Amnesia-inator was pressed." Here he turned to Ferb. "And since I imagine you, me, and everyone else were watching and thinking about her kissing him right then, we got our memories back when it happened again." Heinz tapped his head in thought. "However, I do have one other question. What did the Repulse-inator have anything to – oh wait, I might know why!"
"OK…I guess," Phineas said. "And we brought up the Repulse-inator because Isabella and I lost a portion of our memory on the night of the pharma – I mean, zombies, but those memories were also returned to us when we kissed."
"Oh, really? Huh, now I'm not too sure." Heinz stared off into space and started rippling in place.
Vanessa sighed again. "Dad, you know you're going into a flashback none of us here can see, right?"
"Wait, what? Oh, right, the flashback ripples and everything, sorry. Well, basically, the Repulse-inator was created from a bunch of spare parts from my Forget About It-inator, my Copy-inator, my Poop-inator, and my De-Love-Inator satellite again," said Heinz, not noticing everyone giving him worried and confused looks as he listed off his -inator names. "The Copy-inator and Poop-inator influences make sense, this explains why the ray created less intelligent copies of myself, which acted like they were controlled by one thought. However, I'm not sure what would've caused the Forget About It-inator parts to activate. What were you doing right before you got turned?"
"Well, I guess, I…" stumbled Phineas as he tried to fight his embarrassment again. "I sacrificed myself to save Isabella, who had just expressed her romantic feelings towards me, and…I might have been thinking along similar lines."
"And I was also thinking about how much I…liked him liked him, and also what I needed to do in order to save everyone in Danville and get him back to me," added Isabella, grabbing Phineas's hand and intertwining her fingers with his, causing a small smile to break out on Phineas's face.
Heinz snapped his fingers. "Maybe triggering the emotions again did it. The love you were sharing when the turning happened must have activated the Forget About It-inator and the De-Love-Inator parts together, causing you to forget the part where you showed love to each other. Why the kiss between the two of you brought it back, I can only reason it to be due to the only common part between the two -inators. When you overcame the interference caused by the junk from the De-Love-Inator satellite, it brought back your memories of the event, just like the Amnesia-inator."
Phineas looked at Isabella, who shrugged, and Ferb, who just raised his eyebrow, before turning back to Heinz. "Well, I guess it's as good of a guess as any. Thanks Dr. D, we appreciate you discussing this with us."
"No problem, kids, thanks for stopping by. And I apologize for anything I did to cause you some issues back when I thought I was evil. Although I must say, Perry did a very good job thwarting me."
Phineas patted Perry on the back as they headed out. "Thanks for believing in us all those years ago. And I'm sorry for doubting you." Ferb nodded, echoing the sentiments. Perry chattered back happily, glad his boys forgave him.
"Well, Ferb and I are heading out on our date, he still owes me Ukrainian food," said Vanessa as they headed to the yellow sports car.
"Hope you two have a good time tonight…by yourselves," added Ferb, before winking and doing his finger-snap-and-mouth-click combo as he and Vanessa drove away to begin their date night.
The two of them blushed, but Isabella then noticed the sun was nearly setting. "Wow, it's pretty late in the day now! I don't think I can make it to Tri-State State and move in before the sun goes down."
"So, stay here in Danville tonight and head out tomorrow. We can spend time tonight together, just you and me," a smiling Phineas replied.
Isabella practically melted into his arms. Oh Phineas, I've been waiting so long to hear you say "together, you and me". Also, I'm acting almost as bad as I was as a kid…but this is ACTUALLY HAPPENING. "Sounds delightful, Phineas."
He pecked her on the cheek. "Well, I do have to make up for a LOT of missed time and opportunities."
"Don't worry about it, I wasn't exactly explicit…well, I was, twice, but both times our memories got erased!" Isabella grabbed his hand in hers. "And maybe, subconsciously, it kept me from continuing to do so, as part of me realized it wasn't working. Either way, it's not your fault, it just happened, and it's the way it is. Now we can think to the future and leave the past behind us."
Phineas's smile, if possible, got even bigger at hearing the word "future". "And I bet you've been thinking about the future a lot for the last 14 years." He teased her, squeezing her hand warmly in his.
"Well, maybe just a little," Isabella conceded and laughed. "My old Fireside Girls were tired of hearing me gush about you – wait, Phineas, they also got their memories wiped! And Buford and Baljeet as well! We should get them together again, so they can get their memories back from the 'best day ever'!"
Phineas smirked. "Works for me. Any opportunity I get to kiss you, I'll take it," doing just so a second later.
"Well, then I'll talk to the girls, you get the boys. One more time under the tree in your backyard," Isabella smiled as she started her car, Phineas quickly getting into the passenger seat and Perry jumping into his lap.
As the sun set, the entire gang (minus Ferb) gathered again in the backyard. Buford, as always, got straight to the point. "Alright Dinnerbell, we're here, what's so important that you and Girly made us come back here again?"
Phineas smiled. "This," and once again, he pulled Isabella into a kiss underneath the swaying branches of the big tree.
Wolf-whistles and catcalls from the ex-Fireside Girls (as well as Buford's "Yeah, but what else?") gradually subsided into slight groans and gasps as all the gang received their memories back. Isabella and Phineas separated and almost immediately Isabella was surrounded by the Fireside Girl alums, shrieking unintelligibly but obviously excited. Buford and Baljeet came up behind Phineas and both clapped him on the back. "OK, so maybe you weren't completely oblivious, it wasn't your fault that all our minds got erased because Perry was a secret agent," remarked Buford.
"I am happy for you and Isabella, Phineas," Baljeet said in addition. "It is always good to remember the first kiss one has."
Phineas smiled again, not taking his eyes off Isabella. "Thanks guys, I'm glad it all worked out eventually for the two of us." He did favor each of them with a significant glance. "Although I wouldn't have caused her so much pain all these years if SOME people didn't keep it a secret from me."
Buford and Baljeet both shrugged. "What did you expect us to do? Not only would you have not believed us when we were younger, Isabella would definitely not have wanted us to say anything," stated Baljeet.
"Yeah, and besides, we thought she'd given up around high school, and we didn't realize you liked her as well. Ya know, what with how you'd never once shown interest before," added Buford.
Phineas sighed as he turned to fully face the two of them. "I guess you're right. It still hurts me a little, though. I unintentionally hurt her for so long; all those times I misinterpreted her actions and came off like I didn't care about her feelings. Especially the time when we went around the world in one day…"
A slender arm looped its way around him as Isabella snuggled into his side. "And yet, here we are, with a chance to explore 'us'," she said, smiling at him. Phineas didn't respond verbally, he just hugged her even tighter.
"Now if this isn't the cutest thing I've ever seen," said Lawrence Fletcher, stepping out from the living room with a smile on his face.
"Yes, yes it is," commented Linda Flynn-Fletcher as she joined her husband, also smiling at the scene before her.
"Dios mio, mija, I'm glad Phineas was able to find you before you left town, but I would've appreciated you either calling me or texting me, letting me you were staying in Danville tonight!" This came from Vivian Garcia-Shapiro, as she opened the gate and stepped into the Flynn-Fletcher backyard.
Isabella sighed and shrugged at Phineas before letting go and walking over to talk to her mother, as Phineas also headed over to speak with his mom and dad.
"I'm sorry Mama, but I just had to come back, I couldn't just leave without saying goodbye to Phineas. When I put my last paycheck in my wallet, a photo of him came out, and all of those feelings just crashed into me again."
Vivian smiled at her daughter. "Don't worry, Isa, I understand. The poor boy came running into the restaurant just after you left asking for you. I told him you were heading to school and about your crush on him when you were younger, and he just sighs and goes 'I wish I had known'. I had never seen him so down before."
"Well, I'm just glad he didn't give up. He first showed up at our house, before he noticed me sitting on his front steps. And then he was just…pure Phineas, Mom, and it was just like we were kids again. He even used my old catchphrase from when we were young. We talked a little about this summer, and then he told me Baljeet had alerted him of my crush, and he had also developed feelings for me in high school."
"Right after you had decided to stop trying," Vivian said sympathetically.
"Yeah, I had basically given up, it was such unfortunate timing" Isabella admitted. "And then, I just mentioned I was going to Tri-State State, and asked where he was going. And he pulls out an admission letter to Danville U!"
Vivian put her hand to her mouth. "Oh, no! But why?"
Isabella laughed. "I thought the same thing, but then he realized why I wasn't excited, and switched the letter I was holding with the one he had in his hand, which was his acceptance to Tri-State State!"
"Ayy," gasped Vivian. "So now it's official? You two are heading to the same college, 'together'?"
Isabella smiled. "Yep. And do you want to know the best part? After we said our goodbyes and I had left, he got Ferb and his girlfriend to follow me in her car, just so he could make up for what he had missed. We had our first kiss, right there in the road!" Mentally, Isabella replaced "first" with "second".
"Oh, I'm so happy for the two of you! Congratulations, mija!" Vivian exclaimed, a tear glistening in her eye.
"Thanks Mama." Isabella grinned. "We're hoping to spend some time with each other tonight before I head off tomorrow morning."
"I should leave you two be, then." Vivian winked at her daughter. "I'll call you when it's time for dinner."
"Is there any chance we could have dinner with Phineas and his family?" Isabella asked hopefully.
"I imagine Linda is coming over now to ask the very same question," answered Vivian, and she hugged Isabella and winked at her again, pushing her towards Phineas before turning to the approaching Linda Flynn-Fletcher.
"Well, son, I'm glad to see you figured out the most obvious 'secret' in your life," Lawrence stated as he lightly tousled Phineas's hair. "Am I to assume the two of you are serious about this?"
Phineas grinned sheepishly. "Yeah, I decided to go to Tri-State State as well, so we can be together when we explore this new dynamic in our relationship."
Linda smiled at her son. "And I'm glad you finally were able to decide, and it seems like a win on both accounts. Great school for your academic interests, and you'll have someone special there with you."
"Thanks Mom," Phineas replied. "Although I'm not actually sure what I want to study yet, which was part of why it took so long to choose a school."
"Well, with what I've heard from Candace over the years, you would do well with either building or designing things to break the laws of nature or whatever," Linda laughed, Phineas joining her a second later.
After calming down, Phineas said, "Actually, Mom, Isabella and I were hoping to spend some time together tonight, before she heads out tomorrow."
"Say no more, I'll go invite Viv and Isabella to dinner. You're free to spend time wherever tonight, but if it's in your room here, I expect the door to stay open!" Linda warned as she left to speak with Vivian.
"Mom! I so did not need the mental image!" Phineas yelled after her embarrassedly. Without any response from her, and with Lawrence only shrugging with a half-smirk on his face, Phineas rolled his eyes and rejoined his friends under the tree, where they were clustered around pet-mode Perry.
Baljeet stood up and dusted off his pants. "Well, I must be heading out now, I'm meeting my parents for dinner soon before heading back to Danville University to prepare for classes in two weeks." He turned back to look at Perry and added, "Do not worry Perry, your secret is safe with me," before walking away.
"Yeah, same. Momma Van Stomm has always made sure I never missed a meal, and I can't let her down now. Thanks, Perry, for trusting us with this." Buford said as he joined Baljeet in leaving the yard.
The Fireside Girl alums again clustered around Isabella as she rejoined the gang around the tree. "You HAVE to tell us how everything goes tomorrow, girl!" Adyson told Isabella as she gave her a hug.
"Of course I will, thank you so much for coming back girls!" Isabella replied, smiling at her friends.
"In hindsight, we wouldn't have missed this for the world, Chief. We're glad we were able to remember and witness your first kiss with your Phineas," responded a grinning Gretchen, winking at Isabella.
Mortified but still smirking, Isabella just said, "Oh hush, you." The rest of the ex-Fireside Girls said their goodbyes and quickly departed.
"Well, I guess we should go inside to discuss dinner plans and give those two some privacy," Linda said as she winked to Vivian. The three parents all walked indoors, leaving Isabella and Phineas alone under the big tree in the Flynn-Fletcher backyard. Phineas gestured to the tree with one hand, and the two of them slid down onto the ground as the branches rustled gently in the light evening wind.
Isabella looked up at Phineas as they snuggled together, Phineas's back up against the base of the tree trunk and her head resting on his shoulder, holding his hand. Phineas gazed right back down at her as they fell into a comfortable silence. How little was said instead spoke volumes to the depth of their friendship and love for each other.
Phineas finally broke the silence. "So, because I know I'm going to Tri-State State, I need to let the university know, as well as head over there and find a place to live myself." He smiled at Isabella. "May I come with you tomorrow, to help you move in and deal with my logistical issues?"
"I wouldn't have it any other way, Phineas. Thank you so much, for everything," Isabella replied happily, before tilting her head up and sneaking another quick kiss from him and sighing contentedly.
Phineas just smiled goofily. "I still can't believe this happened."
Isabella giggled at his response. "YOU can't believe this? Try waiting on your crush noticing you for 14 years! Then how do you think you'd feel?" she teased him. "Yet here we are, 18 years old and heading off to college, and I FINALLY get to have my chance with you."
Squeezing her hand as he continued smiling, Phineas stole her earlier line. "And I wouldn't have it any other way."
The couple sat there for a while, just enjoying each other's company until Linda poked her head out from the house. "Dinner's ready, kids!"
Phineas stood up and held out his hand for Isabella. "Shall we join them for nourishment, my lady?" He asked with an exaggerated bow.
Chuckling, Isabella took his proffered hand and stood up. "Why, yes we shall, my lord," as she also dipped into a large curtsy.
After dinner, the two of them went back outside and sat down under the tree, holding hands and snuggling together, both again uncharacteristically quiet as they just reveled in the feelings they generated in each other. It was almost as if nothing more needed to be said between them. They had each other, which was enough. Finally, as the stars peeked out from the dusk and the nearly full moon started to rise in the east, Phineas walked Isabella back to her house across the street. In the doorway, Isabella grabbed him into another hug, and he leaned down to kiss her again, disregarding the knowing look he saw Vivian give the two of them through the front window.
Isabella opened her front door, then turned back and smiled at him. "See ya."
Phineas gazed tenderly after her. "In the morning."
She laughed. "A lot better than in two weeks."
He smiled. "Yes, yes it is."
