Chapter 4: Pewter City Showdown
It was morning the next day and Ash was still sleeping. "Aaaaah!" Pikachu had had enough and zapped Ash to get him to wake up. "Pikachu, why on earth did you do that?" he got up furiously, and started chasing Pikachu around his room, until he heard a knock on the door. "Huh, who is it?" he shouted back at the door.
"It's Misty, you idiot, we were supposed to leave for Pewter City today." He got a loud reply from Misty. Ash had completely forgotten about Misty and the fact that he was going to leave for his first gym battle.
"I'll be at breakfast in five minutes, you go ahead." He quickly started to pack his things and got ready to leave, most importantly, he changed his you-know-what. After having their breakfast at the Pokémon centre, the pair headed on Route 2 towards Pewter City. On the way, Ash and Misty met a few other trainer's in the Viridian forest and had a battle each. Ash battled a trainer called Max, who had a Charmeleon, (Ash lost) and Misty battled a girl named Grey, who happened to be another water Pokémon trainer. Both their Pokémon got knocked out so no one won that match. Upon reaching Pewter City, first they went to the Pokémon centre to get their Pokémon healed.
Then before, Ash could get his first match, they decided to have lunch.
"Hey Ash, what is your dream?" she asked curiously as they munched on their food.
"My dream, is to become a Pokémon master one day, I want to meet all the Pokémon in the world, and be the best Pokémon trainer there has ever been. What do you want to do, Misty?" Ash was curious what she would say.
"I want to meet all the water-type Pokémon there are. Oh and I also want to meet Kyogre one day." She said in a dreamy state of mind.
Ash started laughing frantically. "You want to meet Kyogre! A legendary Pokémon! Seriously, come on Misty, be optimistic, meeting a legendary Pokémon is near impossible!" he kept laughing and that got onto Misty's nerves.
Misty had never seen this side of Ash, and was surprised and very angry at his statement. "Well, if you don't think that I can meet Kyogre, keep that thought to yourself." Ash and her, didn't talk all the way to the Pewter City gym. Once they reached there, they we greeted by a boy about 4 years older than Ash himself.
"Hi there, I am Brock, the Pewter City gym leader!" he said cheerfully. "Are you here for a gym battle?" he asked.
Excited that he had met the gym leader he replied, "Hi, I'm Ash from Pallet town and I am here for a gym battle." Mist introduced herself and they went inside to the battlefield.
A referee appeared out of nowhere (anime style ¬_¬) and said the battle rules. "This will be a one on one battle between the Pewter City gym leader Brock and the challenger Ash. Each person will use two Pokémon and only the challenger may switch Pokémon. It this clear?"
"Yes." They both replied.
"Let the battle begin!" Brock brought out his first Pokemon. I look like a rock and was floating in the air. Ash took out his Pokédex and scanned the Pokémon. "Geodude, the rock Pokémon. Geodude has incredibly high defensive power, making it virtually resistant to any physical attacks."
"Geodude, huh, ok, I choose Squirtle." He took out a poke ball and threw it into the air, and Squirtle appeared in front of Ash in a flash of blue light.
"Geodude, use Gyro Ball!" Geodude started spinning really fast that its arms started glowing blue and it looked like Saturn. It launched itself at Squirtle.
"Quick, Squirtle use Mirror Coat!" Squirtle started to glisten, but then Ash saw a smile across Brock's face, and as soon as Geodude hit Squirtle, he was launched backwards and was knocked out.
"Squirtle is unable to battle, Geodude wins." Geodude punched the air at winning the battle.
"What?" Ash was surprised at had happened, but Brock explained,
"Mirror Coat only works for special moves, not physical moves." Sad that he had overseen such an important thing, he called back his Squirtle.
"Squirtle, return." The Squirtle was surrounded by a blue light and was retreated into the poke ball. Then Ash apologised to his Pokémon, "Sorry Squirtle, it was my fault." Then he called Pikachu with a better mood. "You ready buddy?" he asked and Pikachu responded with a fierce attitude. "Pika pikachu"
"Let the battle begin!" Both Geodude and Pikachu looked like they wanted to win. This time Ash gave the first move. "Pikachu, use Thunderbolt!" Pikachu started to store charge in his cheeks. After it was built up to a level he discharged it at Geodude.
The move hit Geodude with an explosion and after the smoke cleared, everyone saw that Geodude was knocked out. "What?" Ash, Brock and Misty all said surprised. 'Bing', Ash looked at his Pokédex and it said "Pikachu learned the move Thunder from Thunderbolt."
"Well, that explains it." Brock was surprised but hadn't given up hope. Meanwhile Ash and Pikachu were happy that Pikachu had learned a powerful move. Brock took Geodude's poke ball returned him, and took out another poke ball. He threw it and in an explosion of blue light a huge Pokemon like a snake appeared. "Onix, the rock snake Pokemon. It tunnels through the ground which shakes when it raises its thunderous roar. It can move through the ground at 50 miles per hour."
"Woah, that it huge." Ash and Pikachu had a shiver went through their bodies. "Ok Pikachu, we can win this." "Pi Pikachu" it replied. Brock gave the order first. "Onix, use Bind." Onix lunged at Pikachu and tried to grab the small mouse Pokemon. "Pikachu, dodge using Quick Attack and use Brick Break." Pikachu moved out of the way in the last second. Pikachu's hand started glowing red and hit Onix with surprising power. Onix fell with a roar.
"Onix, use Rock Throw." Onix, picked up several small rocks and launched them at Pikachu. Pikachu tried to didge them, but some of the rocks hit Pikachu and dealt a great deal of damage. "Pikachu! Are you okay buddy?" Pikachu got up and gave a weak smile, "Pikachuuuuu"
Ash had something in mind and waited for Brock to use Rock Throw again. "Onix, use Rock Throw." Onix repeated the move, but this time Ash smiled. "Pikachu, climb using the rocks." Pikachu started to jump on the rocks and got to a great height, "Now, use Iron Tail." As the mouse Pokémon came down, its tail started to glow silver and hit the snake Pokémon on its head dealing super effective damage. Onix fell to the floor and after the dust cleared the referee announced that it was knocked out. "Onix is unable to battle, Pikachu wins the battle and the match goes to the challenger, Ash Ketchum."
Brock called back his Pokémon and walked towards Ash smiling. "That was a very thrilling battle, Ash, where are you heading next?"
"Um, I actually don't know, where is the closest gym Brock?"
"The closest gym from here is in Cerulean City." On the side Misty was thinking to herself, 'I didn't want to go bock this quickly, but I can't stop Ash either.'
"Hey Ash, I would like to travel with you on your journey but I have to take care of my family, so you carry on, oh, and take this." He handed Ash the boulder badge. "Wohoo, I got the Boulder badge." He exclaimed. "Pika Pikachu." Pikachu smiled at his hard work.
Out of nowhere a man appeared at the door, "No Brock, you should follow your dream, I have stayed away from my family for this long, I can't anymore."
"Dad!" Brock was surprised to see his Dad after so many years. "Thanks Dad, for showing up in the first place and…" It took a few minutes for Brock and his dad to finish their family business. Then Brock came out of the gym and asked Ash. "Hey Ash, is it ok if I join you and Misty in your journey?"
Both of them accepted gladly to have another person with them. "Of course Brock!" They decide to stay at the gym for the night and leave in the morning. But they still didn't know who Misty really was.
Sorry, it took me more than a year to post, but school got in the way. Anyway, this is where Ash gets his first badge, and I left out all the family business of Brock and his dad, because just no, anyway I hope that the next one won't take long.
