Chapter 13
It had been days since the last messages had been sent to the headquaters from those that went on the scouting mission. plenty of intel of how the Strigoi had moved their hostages but now it was too late. They would be well and truly secured by now. And worst of all the lack of communication. That meant that both Dimitri and Janine were gone. Lost or turned or even worse. They were dead.
Lissa had given up. No one was here for her anymore. Everyone had left. Her parents, her brother, her boyfriend and his aunt. Her friends and her sister in all but blood. They all left her in the end. And there were almost no Moroi left free.
The compound that they were hiding in was bland and simple. The food was paper like. Blood bags from local blood banks. And always old.
Lissa was very tempted to just leave when as she was floating down a hall she listened to the conversation around her. And an idea was formed.
Moving fast now she found the storage rooms. Spirit was all that they could fight with and so that is exactly what she would do. She would spend as long as it took to make as many spirit charged weapons as she could. And looking at the hundreds of abandoned silver stakes Lissa had her work cut out for her.
Dimitri was no longer aware of how many days he had been here for. The last time he had seen sky, he was running for his life. Running as hard as he could, as far and further than he ever did with Rose and her training. But it wasn't enough. Janine had fallen first, she hadn't tripped or gotten too tired but she had been caught. They were running together and suddenly Roza was in front of them and had Janine by the throat. Dimitri hadn't waited to find out what happened, he kept running. And was jumped by three Strigoi. Managing to dodge and stake on of them before he was hit. Staggering back, Dimitri rolled around and lashed out at the closest Strigoi with his stake. He could feel it sink into the skin, but not the heart. Pulling back a heavy blow fell on Dimitri's head and his last thoughts were "is that blood" as something dropped into his eyes and blackness took over the world.
Now all he could see were the blank walls of his cell. Four walls. 2 meters by 3 meters. A ceiling covered in small spikes. That was only 2 1/2 meters from the floor. And a door. Thought it fit perfectly into the wall that it was completely invisible from the inside. A flap on the floor which once every five hours opened for one of two reasons. Food or water. Then there was what was supposed to be the toilet. A bowl like thing attached to a pipe which ran through one corner. The pipe was not even as wide as his wrist. But clearly held the waste from all the cells above and below him.
4 times food had been and 3 times water alone. That was how long before he had actually heard anything outside. A scrape and a push. Then the hidden door opened and artificial light flooded the cell. Nothing came in, so slowly he creeped out into the open. Six Strigoi and three humans were lining any and all escape routes. Roza was not playing any games. And there she was, standing there waiting for him. Finally completely adjusted Dimitri walked forward toward the little death queen.
"Welcome Dimitri to my home," Rose said. "Let me show you around."
