Ch 4
The next day Ike and Kid took turns with Buck and Cody preparing Jimmy's final resting place. Ike and Kid struggle with themselves as they excavated the deepest grave that they ever dug. Teaspoon and Lou walked over to Rachel's not feeling very well themselves. They sat down and pondered what could of happened to their Jimmy so fast. Never before seeing such a death. Teaspoon had instructed for the boys to dig an eight foot deep hole. Rachel held Teaspoon as he cried and coughed. There were no words to heal a broken heart like his. She wiped his tears and hers along with Lou's as the day went on. That afternoon, they laid Jimmy's body to rest under the oak tree behind Rachel's house. No supper was fixed that night.
Kid went to Rachel's to look in on Lou. Rachel met him at the door.
"They're sleeping Kid. They became sick from grieving. Let them sleep it off. They'll be fine tomorrow."
That night Ike and Kid could not sleep for wondering where Cody and Buck was. They paced back and forth in silence for hours. After dark, Ike slapped his hands together to draw Kid to the window. They looked outside to witness the grotesque sight of Cody and Buck shaking back and forth in the station yard standing chest to chest. There appeared to be something out there with them. Something they had never seen before. Something they didn't even have words to describe. They jerked away from the window and ran out the back to Rachel's house. They never made it. Buck was standing over Kid who was paralyzed from the blow to the back of his neck. Ike was laying in the dirt shaking from the axe wound to his chest that Cody had delivered in the dark.
Rachel was feeling pretty run down but managed to make her way to the window. Seeing nothing but the darkness outside, she was sweating and needed to sit down but not before checking on Teaspoon and Lou in the other room. She entered the room and was horrified by the sight that lay in front of her eyes. Lou and Teaspoon were showing the same symptoms as Jimmy. All of Teaspoon's hair was falling out and Lou had black goo seeping from her mouth. Their eyes were sunk back deep into their heads. She screamed in agony. The whole house was lit up from outside. A blinding light pierced every crack in the wall. It cleared through the windows. Rachel stumbled temporarily blinded by the light as it scorched every inch of the wall. She looked outside to see Buck and Cody. Their body's were being lifted up off the ground by the same light. They seemed to hover motionlessly over the ground. She watched as two beings emerged from the boy's bodies. They fell to the ground like a spent carcass. The creatures continued to rise out of her sight. The light mysteriously vanished along with Rachel's sanity. She fell to the floor dead.
