Friday had finally arrived. The Dance with the Witches gala had everyone captivated, even those that normally skipped the event like Diana and Amanda. For one night only, Appleton and Luna Nova students would bury the hatchet and partake in one of the liveliest events of the year.
In a testament to everyone's feelings about the night, classes on Friday were off as everyone prepared to look their best for the evening. Plus, it meant the Professors of Luna Nova not having to deal with the troublesome heroes for a day and avoiding whatever Akko and her chums could have cooked up. Everybody won.
For two certain individuals however, the dance was going to be something far more urgent, and more than likely, lethal.
As Todoroki looked himself in the mirror, he saw just how his appearance masked his internal thoughts. Tonight, he and Amanda were going to confront Rotha Mosley, or Cynthia as she was being called now.
Or, at least that what he thought was going to happen. An agent with powerful magic that evaded Britain's elite, what chance did he and Amanda have?
He took a deep breath. All the extra security he hired would certainly help, but he couldn't help but think that any action he took would result in his memory being wiped and altered. That could be mundane from thinking he was always a Punk Rocker to thinking there was no villain to catch or God forbid, thinking someone else was the villain or that he had always been a loyal servant of the villain.
It seemed memories made a person and that Rotha's magic could make someone anything as long as they were convinced it was always how they acted.
Still, Rotha didn't seem to be as evil as the other villains he faced. She seemed downright pleasant, if not for the whole running an illegal operation with stolen assets from the military and a happiness to mind wipe people without second thought.
What he should have remembered however, was that he was in a dressing room with the lads in Appleton and that he had some finishing touches to do.
Next thing he knew, Andrew tapped his shoulder and brought him back to reality. "Are you alright? You look like you just came out of battle."
Todoroki nodded snapped back to attention. "Just a little nervousness as expected. I've been to formal events before, even danced with some girls, but this is my first time taking a girl out on a dance as a romantic date."
"I'm sure it's gonna be her first time taking a boy out too. We're all new timers I think." said Deku, fidgeting with his tie until Andrew helped him out.
"Yeah except for Mr. Fancy Shmancy over there." muttered Bakugou, admiring his own reflection, thinking about Diana on his arm.
"Actually you guys might be one step ahead of me." revealed Andrew.
"How?" frowned Bakugou.
Andrew shrugged. "I've been on dates before these last few years but they weren't really anything romantic. Just girls trying to get with a hot rich guy and that's it."
Frank chimed in. "Yeah, they're more like favors you did for the girls. I thought you'd be taking Akko out romantically this time, but it seems she wasn't the one."
Before Andrew could respond, Deku raised his voice.
"But wait! I thought you two already went on dates! I'm not saying that's bad or anything, but like you know...could you give me some advice?" blushed Deku.
Andrew stared at him for a moment and then chuckled. "Oh boy. See, I only really started interacting with Akko once senior year started, but during the last two times I went to the dance, I never ran into her. I guess she got into trouble while it happened."
"That's more than likely." mused Todoroki, much to Deku's annoyance.
Andrew patted Deku on the shoulder. "It's fine. You're doing great with her and if anything, I might need to ask you for advice sometime soon."
"Ohhh the tables turn. Let's hear why?" chirped Frank.
"You're taking it further with Hannah?" guessed Todoroki.
Andrew took a deep breath. "Uh no, I've been chatting with this girl lately over some common interests like music. And I know she's Japanese."
Bakugou laughed obnoxiously. "Dude! If you seriously think we can help you with Japanese ladies you're outta luck."
"Akko is Japanese." pointed Deku.
"She's special." blew off Bakugou.
"Anyway, she told me she goes to a hero school," continued Andrew, which quickly got everyone's attention. "She told me it's a famous one but she's gonna do a reveal."
Deku's pupils shrunk. "Do you think she's in ours….guys?"
Andrew shook his head. "I figured searching your profiles online would give me answers, but I'm gonna let her surprise me. I've been careful on social media."
Bakugou bit his teeth. "That's for then, let's focus on now and do this shit. I wanna see Diana."
"There's no rush. You know ladies take their time getting ready." laughed Frank.
"I think we're the ones behind considering all the steps Andrew took and the fact that they can do it with seconds in magic." remarked Todoroki.
Frank's mouth dropped for a moment. "Right right right. Uh, we'll I'm good. You guys?"
The three heroes checked their reflection on the mirror. All of them looked dashing to say the least, their suits fitted well, their hair was properly groomed and Andrew helped rid them of any imperfections.
"I'm ready to see Amanda." said Todoroki.
"Same...I mean to see Akko." added Deku.
"Feeling amazing." finalized Bakugou.
Andrew nodded and checked his watch. "Alright, I'll call our ride and we'll make it before the girls do at this rate. Even if it takes them a second to cast a spell to get ready, I know that Diana will get the girls to show up roughly fifteen minutes after the doors open to make a show but not be too late in case she misses something."
"The expert has spoken! Let's do this gentlemen!" cheered Frank.
"WAIT!" called out Deku.
"What?" yelled Bakugou, getting impatient.
"Let's take a picture. I just want to commemorate this event with my friends you know?" smiled Deku.
"Of course dude!" cheered Frank. "Come on let's get in."
"If it'll make you shut up, fine." gritted Bakugou.
Todoroki said nothing and formed up with the rest. He just hoped it wouldn't be the last picture of his life after what he intended to go down, but he reasoned he faced worse.
"I'll handle the honors." said Andrew, whipping out his phone and snapping a selfie of the gang. Thanks to his height, he had the advantage when it came to picking out the best angle.
Deku smiled as wild as he could, hoping the picture would be something he would fondly look back on. He did notice however that Bakugou's expression was rather blank, while even Todoroki and Andrew managed to put up a stoic grin.
Once the photo was taken, Bakugou wasted no time heading out of the bathroom and into Appleton's halls, the rest following.
Deku couldn't help but feel a little disappointed that his relationship with Bakugou didn't truly improve over their time together at Luna Nova. Despite falling in love with a witch like him and even somewhat helping him out with Akko, his attitudes regarding him and Todoroki remained mostly unchanged. Perhaps it was because having Akko around was like having another version of him, which he reasoned would only reinforce what Bakugou didn't like in himself.
Regardless, Deku shook his head and trailed behind the group. All that was important now was him and Akko having the best night of their lives.
The boys waited at the entrance of the venue, an old building renovated to become a center to host a variety of events from concerts to conventions. And of course, it was ran by none other than White Wolves enterprises of course because Oswald had to own everything at this point.
Todoroki blankly stared at the company logo, at least reasoning that the extra security he hired would be operating in familiar territory. There was a blessing amid all this.
Deku took a deep breath, prompting Todoroki to face him and the rest of the group.
Deku entered one of his traditional rants. "How do I look, is my suit too tight, is my hair done right, should I work on my posture, will Akko like…"
"SHUT IT!" hissed Bakugou. "You'll start fucking sweating and ruin yourself dipshit."
"And come on man, you had Andrew fix you up." winked Frank.
"But your personality is within your control only." reminded Andrew.
"Right right. Sorry." apologized Deku.
A few couples had already entered the dance hall before them and quite a few more had entered while they awaited their dates. The mix of Appleton and Luna Nova students paid the five boys no mind, even with their reputations attached, too focused on their dates.
Some other members of the elite also arrived at the venue, one of which was Rotha in her disguise as Cynthia, accompanying Oswald and the other CEO Nora. They didn't seem to notice Todoroki or his friends, too busy chatting.
Todoroki clenched his fists and almost scowled until he noticed an oncoming limousine. "Is that them?"
Andrew squinted. "That's a Cavendish household car. It sure is them."
Bakugou clenched his fists. "Diana better be first out of there."
And his wish would be granted. The limousine stopped in front of them and with just a few moments of delay, probably Diana relaying orders, the door opened and out she stepped with her eyes closed in a classic Diana fashion.
Bakugou smirked as he saw his date in the beautiful blue dress he saw her put on. Not too frilly like something for a formal gala, but it was just as elegant as her movements and expression.
Diana opened her eyes and returned the smile to Bakugou. "My, you certainly look dashing."
"Worthy of your grace?" laughed Bakugou with the fakest posh accent he could sport.
"If you never do that voice again, of course." joked Diana, extending her hand which Bakugou took.
Bakugou led her forward, their movements not too quick, but eager nonetheless. "Come on, let's show everyone what we're made of."
All the while, the other girls made it out of the limousine.
Akko burst out of the car, looking a little annoyed at whatever it was Diana likely said, but any frustrations immediately vanished when she laid eyes on Deku. He himself lost any hesitation when he saw Akko in her wonderful red dress.
There were sparkles in Akko's eyes. "OH MY GOSH DEKU! YOU LOOK SO HANDSOME!"
Deku blushed a bright red. "Um thanks, you're really beautiful too tonight. I mean, not that you're not beautiful every night….but…"
"This is more beautiful than beautiful right!" beamed Akko, helping her boyfriend out with his words.
"Uh yeah.." chuckled Deku, offering Akko his hand, which she took without hesitation.
Akko squealed with excitement. "I just know we're gonna have the best time. We'll be elected the dance's king and queen just like how we'll be the future All Might and Chariot."
Andrew raised an eyebrow. "There's no election like that. It's not prom."
"Yeah, but if there was an election we'd be voted King and Queen right bunny?" said Akko, burrowing her face into Deku's.
"Oh, of course!" agreed Deku.
"YAY!" chirped Akko, before realizing Andrew was still next to her.
She turned around and clasped her hands, surprising him. "You helped him with the outfit and all that stuff right?"
Andrew nodded and grinned. "It was no big deal."
Akko gave him a playful curtsy. "Seriously though, thank you soooo much. This is the best he's looked since ever!"
"HEY! You better not be flirting with my date, especially with your own one standing right there." hissed a voice that belonged to Hannah.
Andrew bit his lip. "Trust me, it's nothing that. She's just thanking me for helping out with the guys' suits."
Hannah took a breath of relief, scurried up to Andrew and clasped his arm. "Good. Because if you try anything funny with him I'll end you and your broccoli boy."
Andrew rolled his eyes, especially at the logic of having to punish Deku if Akko did something illicit. He almost felt bad that this wasn't going to last for more than a night.
Redeeming herself, Hannah took a look at Deku and hesitantly gave him a quip of approval. "Well, I guess you did do a good job on him. Frank too."
Frank himself meanwhile smiled wide once he saw Lotte out of the Limousine, wearing a dress almost exactly like the one he met her in.
"Wow, not only do you look stunning, but that's a trip down memory lane!" exclaimed Frank with joy.
Lotte blushed. "Um, I thought it might be a little too fancy."
"Are you kidding! It highlights everything great about your looks." complimented Frank, taking Lotte's hands, causing her to smile with joy.
Lotte's eyes widened. "You mean it?"
"Of course, why wouldn't I?" laughed Frank.
The two laughed while Akko, Deku, Hannah and Andrew glanced at them being cute. All the while Todoroki awaited his date, a little nervous. She was the to get out of the vehicle, which at least for him meant saving the beast for last.
Todoroki's mouth dropped when he saw her full figure. Her dress was a nice shade of green that matched her eyes while also showing off the right amount of cleavage and leg, driving him mad. Her hair was familiar but well done and whatever makeup she applied wasn't too obvious and yet somehow radiated her beauty further.
Amanda stared at him lustfully with her piercing eyes. "So cutie, what do you think?"
Todoroki gave it a moment of thought. "I'd say you look like…"
"A girl? Because if you do, I'll cast a hex on you." teased Amanda.
Without even letting Todoroki finish his compliment, she moved towards him and planted a kiss on his lips, which he returned by holding her by the leg and back, pleased to find that quite a bit of it was bare too.
"Aww, you two look adorable like that!" remarked Akko with joy.
"I guess I concur." sighed Hannah.
Amanda faced the rest of the gang. "You guys go on ahead, we'll catch up after I give him a little bit more sugar."
"Sure thing." nodded Andrew, and with that the other couples took off.
Amanda waited for them to move a considerable distance, before looking at Todoroki with a serious expression. She really had something else on her mind.
"This is it huh?" sighed Amanda.
"It as in there might not be tomorrow? No. It as in we'll face Rotha or Cynthia or whatever we'll call her tonight? Yes." replied Todoroki.
"Come on cutie, you know I meant the latter." snickered Amanda.
"We'll find a way to separate her with security flanking us and work our magic as planned." stated Todoroki.
"You mean I'll work my magic and your work your quirk?" inquired Amanda.
"You know that's what I meant." dryly joked Todoroki.
Amanda laughed and gave him a kiss.
"So you really did give me sugar." said Todoroki, rather pleased as he and Amanda began walking.
"And once we get over this, I'll give you a whole lot more." teased Amanda, causing Todoroki to turn red, as if making out with her in a revealing bikini wasn't enough.
Much to their surprise, everyone, including Bakugou and Diana hadn't entered the dance hall, but were waiting for the two about three quarters in.
"Alright, are we all ready?" asked Diana, looking at the entrance to make sure she and Bakugou could still walk ahead of everyone.
"I think we're good." remarked Todoroki.
Before anyone else could make a move, a familiar grating voice caught their attention.
"It's not too late to turn back you know!" yelled Louis Blackwell, Barbara clasping his arm the same way Hannah clasped Andrew's.
"Here we go." groaned Andrew.
"What the fuck's your problem?" hissed Bakugou.
"Oh, I have a problem?" frowned Louis. "I've read all about the shit you guys get in. We're gonna have something really bad happen to us if you all enter that dance room. Like I-Island or that camping trip where you got…"
"That's enough!" interrupted Diana, drawing a wand, immediately making Louis gulp. Bakugou's kidnapping by the League of Villains was a sore subject and she would have no one messing with her man over it.
Barbara gulped. "Diana please! He's really hot and I need this dance tonight. Besides, is he really wrong? Have you seen the luck on those heroes, Amanda and Akko?"
Akko knitted her eyebrows. "For the record Barbara, Todoroki hired extra security just so we wouldn't have one of my adventures tonight."
Todoroki and Amanda looked at each other, knowing the truth.
Amanda saved face. "If something happens, it happens. You're not too weak at fighting back, right?"
Louis shook his head. "It's not about being weak, it's about being a walking doom magnet. Now if you'll excuse us, we're off in the hopes of maybe making some wondrous memories."
And with that, Louis and Barbara took off, the group letting them cover some distance to avoid talking to them.
"That guy, I swear." sighed Frank, before Lotte cuddled him to make him forget his troubles.
"And with that, I hope there will be no further obstructions." muttered Diana.
"I'm sure there won't be." hoped Deku, as Akko nuzzled his cheek in anticipation.
Before they knew it, the couples began entering the dance hall, the loud electro swing music filling their ears.
Todoroki and Amanda were the last to face the entrance. Holding each others hand and silently praying for each other's safety, they opened the doors and were welcomed with the sight of their fateful gala.
