A/N: This is only the first chapter, but I put a lot here to get to where I wanted to go with the next chapter. Feel free to share advice/ideas/feedback... and sooo sorry for the scene in here. Warning for rap3.

A young student sat at his desk with a dull expression on his face. He stared out through the open window beside him. His teacher took the last roll call for the day and he stood, just like everybody else, when he heard his name.
"Light Yagami." His teacher called.
"Here," he replied.
X
Light sat bored, like usual. His brown eyes lingered on the endless blue of the sky and the white clouds that floated by. Today's lesson was hardly challenging; his teacher had picked on him to recite a difficult paragraph, which earned him his usual praise.
'As expected of a genius,' his teacher had exclaimed while his students groaned; Light tuned it all out. With his chin on his hand and the same old blue sky to look up to from his window, he sighed, 'I would give anything for this boredom to end.'
At that moment, as he was slowly turning his head to face the front, he caught a glimpse of something and he blinked wildly when the setting sun blinded him. He nearly missed seeing something fall, but his eyes had caught sight of it, the black color, a familiar shape, a notebook, and had watched it fall to the grass below.
'That's odd...' He thought to himself, 'I wonder if somebody threw it from the roof... but why?' His curiosity was like an itch, but even more irritating since he'd seen the notebook. Good thing that he knew just how to scratch it. 'Maybe I'll forget about it before then...' Light thought to himself.
X
After school, as if his own two feet had a mind of their own, Light wandered to the last place he'd seen the notebook. He spotted the speck of black in the grass and walked over casually.
Light rubbed his hands together to warm them. 'It's getting chilly.' Then he bent down to pick up the notebook, but could only scoff as he hesitated a mere inches from touching the bind. He brushed his hair to the side and huffed.
'Get a grip... what's with this reaction? It's just a notebook... nothing to be afraid of,' he thought to himself. He took a deep breath, shrugged his shoulders, and quickly grabbed the notebook. The black leather was warm to the touch, despite the chill in the air.
Death Note
Nimble fingers flicked through the blank pages until he reached the front, where a list of rules was written on the back cover. Curious, he read the first rule and his mouth fell open in response.
The notebook shook in his hands as he trembled. Then he breathed in and out and collected himself. His heart was pounding. He closed the notebook and set it back down on the grass with the intention on leaving it there.
"Is this a joke?" He mumbled to himself as he walked away.
He suddenly stopped.
'I must be insane...'
And then he looked back.
X
During his trip back home, Light was fully aware of the Death Note tucked away in his messenger bag and the persistent itch that had been previously left unsatisfied. The closer he got to his front door, the more anxious he felt. By the time he made it inside, he had the straps of his bag in a death grip.
X
His mother welcomed him home with her hands raised, gesturing for him to give her something. Light felt sweat drip from his forehead.
"Oh."
Light took off his shoes and set them down by the door.
His mother waited patiently while he dug through his bag for his report card. She looked it over after he handed it over. Mrs. Yagami beamed and swooned. Then she looked at him with unseeing eyes. Light zoned out.
"My son is a genius! I'm so proud!"
Light felt his heart ache.
"If there's anything special you want, dear..." His mother began, but he kindly cut her off.
"Actually, Mother..." She stared at him without really seeing him and he averted his gaze. "I'm actually... just going to go to my room. I have a lot of homework to do..." He trailed off, peeking through his fringe at his mother, who nodded absentmindedly. He stepped up on to the carpeted stairs.
"Of course, honey... let me know if you need anything, anything at all. Also, I'm thinking that your hair is getting long, we'll have to cut it. Dinner won't take long and your father will be home soon." She turned his back to him without waiting for a response and waved him off.
In his bedroom, behind a locked door, Light finally pulled out the notebook, the Death Note, and sat at his desk to stare at it. His fingers stroked the bumpy leather.
'I already have everything that I want...' Light thought to himself and then set the Death Note down on his desk. He sat down and grabbed a blank page, flicking it back and forth. At the front again, he read the first rule over again.
"The person in possession of the Death Note will be possessed by a Shinigami, its original owner, until they die."
Light leaned back with his arms behind his head, the cuffs of his shirt rolled up, and fell out of his chair with a cry of surprise. There. He whipped around quickly, unable to take his eyes away from the skeletal creature that watched him with yellow eyes from the corner of his bedroom.
It grinned.
Light shivered.
The Shinigami watched him lift himself back up with the support of his chair. At the same time, they both turned their gazes to look at the Death Note, where it laid open on his desk. Upon the arrival of the Shinigami, he felt as if the annoying, persistent itch that had been bugging him had finally been scratched.
"What a strange human you are."
Brown eyes met with yellow ones.
"I was... expecting you... Shinigami." Light confessed, a hint of a grin appearing on his face.
The Shinigami titled his head, gave a loud cackle, and then unexpectedly reached for him. Long, bony fingers wrapped around his wrists and forcefully pulled him closer. His wrists were bound and held together by a strong hand and he flinched when the Shinigami's sharp nails dug into his skin. With a free hand, the Shinigami tapped one of his pointy fingernails on the human's cheek.
Light suddenly forgot how to breathe while looking into those red eyes. The Shinigami looked pleased to have his attention.
"I am the Shinigami named Ryuk."
"Ryuk?" Light echoed, mind blank.
The Shinigami named Ryuk cackled again before gripping his chin and turning his head side to side. Ryuk kept a firm grip on his wrists as he inspected him. No matter how many times he attempted to pull himself free, the Shinigami was as movable as a mountain.
Flustered, Light snapped his head back and away with the hand touching him. He glared.
The Shinigami looked amused.
"Ryuk," Light breathed heavily and he strained himself as he shouted, "Let me go!"
Ryuk cackled his usual cackle and released him. Light gasped. He fell backwards, tripping over his chair, and landed on the carpet with a loud thump. He glared up at the Shinigami, flushed with embarrassment, and pointed a finger as it cackled at him.
The Shinigami Ryuk looked pleased.
"So go ahead then!" He shouted, a little quieter this time, and spread his arms in defeat at the Shinigami. He bowed himself low to the floor, his teeth clenched as he spoke.
"So... Take my soul."
Ryuk cackled, staring down at the owner of the Death Note with interest. He picked his ear and flicked his fingers to rid himself of whatever he'd dug up.
"Light Yagami."
Light felt goosebumps as the being spoke to him and he cautiously peered up at him. His name rolled off the Shinigami's tongue like smooth chocolate. Ryuk reached for him and his heart nearly stopped, but the Shinigami merely pet his head instead. Sharp nails scratched his scalp.
Light felt his body relax against his will, as if by some invisible force.
"What are you-" Light began to mumble while in a daze. The Shinigami interrupted him by striding away and peering through his bedroom window at the darkness. A wide grin stretched across his face and he stretched.
"I was bored." Ryuk stated simply, as if he were explaining himself.
"...What?"
The Shinigami ignored him and pointed at the notebook on his desk. Light's attention followed. They both stared at the notebook until Light picked himself up off the floor and lifted it up into his arms. A warmth blossomed in his chest at the contact and he sighed.
"You're the first human to have picked up my notebook. By the way, got any apples?" A mad look appeared in Ryuk's eyes at the mention of apples.
Light hummed thoughtfully.
"Apples, huh?"
Ryuk surprised him by lifting him several feet up in the air. There was a gleeful and desperate look about him. The Shinigami clung tightly to him, as if he were a possession.
"My human, my Light," Ryuk crooned at him.
Light felt a strange warmth rise in his chest and a sudden desire to go get his Shinigami as many apples as he desired. He shuddered in revulsion at the thought that had crossed his mind and then froze.
'Wait... My Shinigami!? Where did that come from!?' Light tugged at his hair, his eyes wide, while his head spun. The urge to go get apples for his Shinigami was overwhelming. He sighed. Ryuk stared at him expectantly.
"Okay... Stop whatever it is you're doing and put me down so I can go get you those damn apples." His head throbbed in pain.
"Deal." Ryuk hyuk'ed.
Ryuk set him down gently but continued his obnoxious demand for apples. Feeling like a dog, Light left his room to fetch some apples from the kitchen. In return, he hoped for a few of his questions to be answered before dinnertime.
Besides, it wasn't as if he had a choice anyway, he didn't enjoy his mind being played with either.
'I'd rather fetch that Shinigami some apples with my own free will.' Light rolled his eyes.
'Whatever that was... made me feel like I was being drawn in by that warmth...' Light rubbed his chest absentmindedly as he wondered. Then he sighed and braced himself before entering the kitchen.
His mother greeted him from the stove. She wiped her hands off on her apron and gave him a big hug. He returned the gesture awkwardly.
She smiled down at him kindly, "Is there anything you need?" She looked up at the clock on the wall. "Dinner is almost ready and your father should be home soon..." Her eyes were dark with worry as she thought about her husband, Chief of the NPA*. (*Japan's 'National Police Agency'.)
Light's eyes fell on the basket of apples on the counter; he stared heatedly at them. His mother laughed.
She picked up the basket of apples and handed it to him.
"Here, some color for your room. I had no idea that you liked apples so much... I'll be sure to buy more. Is there a specific kind that you like?" She tilted her head and beamed down at him with her eyes closed.
"Ah..." Light thought about it. "I'm not sure yet, but these look good." He showed his appreciation with another awkward hug. "Thank-you, mother." She simply smiled and nodded.
Light passed by his little sister, who had her hair up in a pony tail and was already in pajamas, as he was leaving. She stopped him and looked him up and down, "Woah, big brother, what's the rush?" He bashfully rubbed the back of his neck as she checked him out.
She grinned up at him and pointed a finger under his nose, "You need a shower!"
"S-Sayu..." Light stuttered, his face burning hot with embarrassment.
The sound of the front door opening and closing caught their attention; their father had just arrived home. Sayu raced towards the front door with outstretched arms and hugged their father tightly. He looked as if he had only enough time to hang up his coat.
"Daddy!" Sayu was sparkling with happiness. "Welcome home!" She rubbed her head on his arm like a kitten.
"Welcome home, Father." Light tucked the bowl of apples under his arm and bowed.
"Ah, Light. Sayu." Mr. Soichiro Yagami appeared more haggard than usual, but he smiled and pulled his son into a hug at the sight of him.
"How are you, my son?" He gave Light's shoulder a fatherly squeeze, "But, ah, why are you still in your school uniform? Go get cleaned up and hurry back down here. It's a school night, after all. Where's your mother? I'm famished." He grinned fatherly at his children.
Light blushed in embarrassment. Sayu giggled and looked at him pointedly. He glared, hoping she wouldn't say anything, but she still did.
"Told you, Light! Daddy, Light stinks sooo bad, I couldn't even hug him earlier." She giggled and Light turned red like a tomato. For a second, lightning clashed between the siblings.
"Okay, okay! I'm going!" Light shouted as he rushed up the stairs to his room. He quickly bolted his bedroom door and looked around; it was empty. The Shinigami named Ryuk was gone.
'Or maybe not...' Light had a feeling.
Setting the basket down on his desk, he had just turned around to leave when he caught sight of Ryuk's hand appearing out of his desk to grab an apple. Ryuk stepped back into the room from the wall.
'He went right through...' Light thought to himself. He sat down on his bed, placed his elbows on his knees, and rested his chin in his hand. Ryuk busied himself with devouring the apples; exclaiming his delight by dancing and kissing an apple here and there.
Light watched the apples quickly disappear one by one until they were all gone. Finally, Ryuk lounged on his bed beside him with a satisfied burp and sigh. Light eyeballed the empty basket. He didn't have much time to ask questions and get answers, he still had to take a shower and have dinner with his family.
"Why not give it a try, Light." Ryuk interrupted him. Heavy-lidded eyes seemed to hypnotize him and before he knew it, without any rational thought, he jumped up and ran face-first into the wall.
Light yelled out in pain.
"Ah! You did that!" He accused, cradling a tender cheek.
Ryuk grinned and shrugged, "So what if I did? I guess you can't walk through walls like me." He stroked his chin thoughtfully. Light stared in shock, unable to comprehend anything that the Shinigami was saying, except that he had sent him running into a wall while under the pretense that he'd go through it.
'What nonsense... stupid Shinigami.'
Light glared, until he noticed a familiar notebook on Ryuk's hip. He pointed at it in surprise.
"That's-"
Ryuk lifted the Death Note towards his face and grinned at him. Light gulped and lowered his finger. A claw tapped the cover; it was blacker, Light noticed.
"This one's mine."
Ryuk then pointed at the Death Note lying on the desk.
"That one was mine originally, but... well, as you can see, I gave it up to the Human World."
"Gave it up?" Light echoed.
"That's right. I was bored."
Light stared and Ryun grinned right back at him.
Eventually, Light averted his gaze, looking to the floor and then toward the wall that he had collided into earlier.
"You were... bored..." Light trailed off. 'I know the feeling all too well...' He thought to himself while rubbing the back of his neck.
Light checked his wrist watch. As much as he wanted to know more, he'd have to take a shower soon; he wouldn't be able to delay it much longer.
He peered over his watch to look up at his Shinigami. "So... why exactly did you think that humans can run through walls?"
Ryuk huffed. "I know that humans can't." He waved his hand. "I was curious to see if you could or not."
"Obviously not..." Light grumbled.
"Then I wonder what it is that you can do." Ryuk pondered, tapping his chin. Light opened his mouth to respond, but was interrupted by knocking on his door. He gave his Shinigami a look.
Ryuk grinned reassuringly. "Don't worry. Only you can see me." He gave him a thumbs up. Light deadpanned.
X
His little sister was at the door.
"What is it, Sayu?"
Sayu lifted up a textbook. "I know that I called you stinky earlier... and that you still have to take a shower and all, but I was hoping that you could help me with this before dinner. It always makes sense when you're the one teaching me." She grinned up at him innocently. Light held back a groan and acted like a charming, helpful older brother instead.
"...Sure." Light faked a smile and stepped aside. Sayu stepped inside and chose the seat at his desk, unaware of the Death Note behind her.
Ryuk suddenly made an appearance, whispering into Light's ear, "I forgot to mention... any human who touches the Death Note will be able to see me." Light jumped and sent a death glare at the Shinigami behind him.
'Now he tells me... damn Shinigami,' he thought to himself, a tick popping up on his temple. When his sister wasn't looking, he quickly tucked the notebook away in a drawer. Careful not to draw any suspicious attention, he pretended to fiddle with the top drawer, as if it were stuck. His inability to open his drawer caught his sister's believing eyes.
'I'll deal with it later...' He thought, in regards to inventing a secure hiding place in the future. He made a mental note in his brain to remember that later. Blueprint designs came to mind and he tucked them away to think about later.
X
He spent a short time helping his sister. Like she said, when he explained it, she understood it all a lot faster than when her teachers were teaching her.
Sayu smiled up at him happily, "I get it now, big brother. Thank-you sooo much for helping me! I'll see you at dinner. So you better hurry up and shower!" Light waved goodbye and shut the door as soon as she was out.
Light turned to look at his Shinigami.
"Ryuk... What is a Death Note used for?"
There was a brief moment of silence while Ryuk thought on what to say. "A Death Note can only be used by a Shinigami. When a Death Note falls into the Human World, it creates a bond between the Shinigami and Human."
"A bond? I remember the first rule written in the Death Note... so does that mean that this ownership is permanent?"
"Well," Ryuk began, "You can, but you'd still be bound to it, since you were still its previous owner."
Light pondered this for a moment, "I think I get it... So making me run at the wall, it was a test? You were trying to see if I could do something... similar to what you can do?" He could only guess. This was a whole new world to him.
"I had intended not to tell you, but I think it'd be more interesting if I did. As an owner of the Death Note, you'll be able to use it, but not even I know how. Don't bother writing names, you're not a Shinigami, so it won't do anything for you; nobody will die and you won't add years to your life." He waved offhandedly. "What I can say is, without a doubt, it wouldn't be in your best interest to lose that Death Note of yours."
'Die?' Light thought ominously, staring at the Death Note on Ryuk's hip, but he didn't have the guts to venture further into the conversation.
Ryuk cackled.
X
Light sat with his family for dinner, uncomfortably pushing food around on his plate. Time to time, he would peer up at his father. He'd been caught off guard, stunned actually, and even upset to see the shadows on his father's face in the brightly lit room.
Light set down his fork.
"Dad..." He began.
His father looked up.
"Is something going on at work?"
Sachiko shushed him while Sayu nodded in agreement with her mother. However, Soichiro sighed and set down his own fork before steeping his fingers together; he looked much older and tired at that moment. Light stared in surprise.
'What could be going on?' Light thought, on guard with the rising tension at the table. 'With Dad's field of work, it can't be any good...'
His dad merely sighed.
Unexpectedly, it was Sayu who spoke up next, appearing excited; she knew something that even her genius brother didn't know. She raised her finger in a 'matter of fact' manner.
"Light has been so busy with exams that he hasn't even been able to keep up on crime and the news." Sayu pointed a finger at Light, "Isn't that right?"
Sachiko interrupted her daughter.
"Sayu, eat your dinner and, please," She eyeballed everyone at the table, "Can we not talk about work here?" She eyed her son and husband sternly, but Light was curious and persisted.
"What's going on?" He asked boldly.
The table was quiet.
Ryuk appeared from somewhere and reclined on the couch. He acted nonchalantly, as if he were watching the tv. He'd been dozing on his human's bed when he'd heard the rising voices from the Yagami family during their dinner. Curious, he had wandered in when he heard it get interesting.
'Typical of my Light.' Ryuk thought proudly.
Soichiro smiled apologetically at his wife, who sighed and stood with her plate to leave. Sayu remained sitting and leaned forward expectantly. Soichiro cleaned his glasses with his shirt before speaking.
"You'll find out soon enough anyway. Since you're my son... and my daughter." He added with a look in his daughter's direction; she nodded from his spot beside him.
Light glanced at her and suddenly felt uneasy. Ryuk was grinning at them all, looking excited, and out of place. He frowned at his Shinigami's reaction.
"There... seem to be mysterious , unexplainable deaths happening... a murderer killing criminals..." Soichiro sighed again.
Light was startled, 'What? Killing criminals?'
Soichiro continued before Light could open his mouth to ask questions, "The cause of death... were all heart-attacks. The thing is, there's no evidence... we have no idea who is doing it or even how. Even the FBI is stumped."
Light felt a chill run down his back.
Ryuk cackled again. Light couldn't help but glance at him. The Shinigami waved at him with a huge grin on his face. He tried to speak with his eyes at his Shinigami and he hoped he saw the urgency in his eyes. He was certain that Ryuk knew something and that the police and FBI were correct to think that these deaths were homicide and were impossible by any ordinary means... which left only one explanation. He gasped as soon as he realized. His father stared at him curiously.
Light closed his eyes and clenched his fists under the table, 'Dad is going against something like that...' The Death Note in his desk came to mind. 'Dad has no idea, but I do.' He looked determinedly at his dad.
"Let me help." He started to say, but Soichiro shut him down immediately.
"No, Light!" He shouted loudly at his son. Both Light and Sayu flinched and Soichiro sighed once again in response. "No..." He repeated, his voice much softer this time.
He looked up at his children.
"I can't risk anything happening to either of you. So, please, be safe." With that, Soichiro stood, taking his plate with him as he left the table; the conversation was over.
Soichiro passed by his wife on his way to the kitchen. Sachiko watched him and then turned to look at her children pointedly, "It's late and you both have school tomorrow. Please go get ready for bed..."
Their mother's soft voice disappeared in Soichiro's arms as he spun her around and swooped her into a warm hug. Light and Sayu awkwardly watched their parents hug each other.
Sayu pulled on his pajama sleeve, muttering under her breathe at him, "Good night." She ran to her room.
"Good night." Light replied.
X
Ryuk was reclining on his bed when he got back to his room. He locked the door behind him, leaned back, and stared at his feet. Eventually his gaze fell on his desk drawer, where the Death Note was hidden away for the moment, and a thought suddenly occurred to him.
"Ryuk..." He began softly. "There is another Death Note out there, am I right?"
"Hmm, there could honestly be several. Though, to my knowledge, this is my first time hearing about it. I don't know any other Shinigami who've dropped their notebooks. Most of them laze around and gamble. Quite boring, actually."
"Well, there's no other explanation... An ability to kill people like that..." Light shuddered at the frightful thought. "You thought that the Death Note had given me the power to go through walls..."
"So..." Light hesitated. "I'll be able to do something like that... eventually."
"Eventually." Ryuk agreed.
Light panicked, "But... I'm not a killer!"
Ryuk shrugged, "Or you could grow a pair of wings and fly like a Shinigami."
Black feathery wings burst from Ryuk's back and the Shinigami grinned at his human's shocked reaction. Red glowing eyes burned into his human as he stood tall, at least 8 feet tall and intimidating. However, Ryuk was unable to be a threat to the human named Light Yagami, even if he wanted to. His wings shuddered; he was excited for the things to come. He had no regrets dropping his Death Note into the Human World. He was pleased with the human that now possessed his previous Death Note.
'However,' Ryuk thought to himself while cracking his fingers, 'It wouldn't be in my best interest, either... to lose my human. This bond is too important... Hopefully those powers of his powers show up sooner than later.' The Shinigami tapped his chin, deep in thought, while Light sat at his computer and hacked into his father's work server.
X
It had been several days, the news channel broadcasted on TV while Light navigated through his father's work server and obtained more information on the case that his father was appointed to. The case that had his father so busy with that he now frequently missed dinner at home and spent most of his nights at work instead.
'Kira, huh?' Light thought absentmindedly, finishing the last paragraph to the most recent report. He stretched. 'So they brought in a Special Case Detective? They all must be loving that.' He tapped his fingers on his desk in thought.
After hacking and looking into the case reports and notes, he had enough evidence to convince him that a Death Note had to be involved. He slammed a fist down and slouched in his seat in frustration.
'I can't help if I'm here...' Light stared forlornly at the carpeted floor. His eyes looked to his drawer, where his Death Note was finally hidden away and securely booby-trapped, but protected from any damage if it was set off.
Light groaned, 'But, I can't exactly tell anybody anything either...'
The T.V. made a sound that caught Light's attention. When he looked, a Detective was sitting at a desk and staring directly at the screen. An announcer introduced the man as a detective with a message to Kira.
'A message to Kira!?' Light thought incredulously. He stared in shock at the screen, 'He won't stand a chance against Kira's ability... this idiot! Hasn't he realized that yet!?'
Light looked down to the floor with his hands clenched at his sides. He scowled, 'I'm so useless.' The corners of his eyes teared up.
A computerized voice spoke,
"Yes, I am Detective known as L and you, Kira, are the criminal that I will soon capture and lock away... and I will catch you." He paused in his speech, suddenly clutching his chest, and made several wheezing sounds while his eyes rolled to the back of his head. His head fell heavily down and thumped loudly on the surface of the desk in front of him.
Light gaped.
'H-He's dead!?'
Ryuk's head appeared over his shoulder, staring at the screen alongside Light, and cackled. His human turned and looked up at him with suspicion.
Ryuk hyuk'ed. He shot his human an offended look, 'When is he going to realize that we're on the same team already?' A sweat drop formed on his forehead at the look on his human's face. 'No need to be so suspicious.' The Shinigami felt a pang in his chest and looked upwards at the ceiling. 'Well, he'll figure it out eventually...'
"Do you know something, Ryuk?" Light asked.
His Shinigami looked thoughtful for a moment and had just opened his mouth to say something when the screen changed to black with the letter 'L' on the screen. The computerized voice was the same, but it sounded shocked.
"If I hadn't just seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn't have believed it... Kira, I will catch you."
X
After the broadcast, Light's home region went under surveillance and became a central base for the Kira case since L's trick deduced the area where Kira was residing. Alongside him, Soichiro had admitted to feeling on edge with the newfound knowledge as well.
"It's as if Kira could be right next to me and I wouldn't even know it..." Were his Father's last words before he departed from home. That had been a couple days ago. 'Just thinking about it... and how I could be helping Dad right now...' Light sighed.
The Shinigami Ryuk had wandered off during their walk. Light stopped and glanced around a couple of times. 'Where did that Shinigami wander off to?' He thought to himself. The lampposts overhead flickered on as the sun set and his surroundings grew darker.
"Ryuk!" Light called out to his Shinigami, but there was no response. 'I wonder where he went this time... he's like a kid, always getting distracted and wandering off.' Chuckling at the image of Ryuk as a human child, Light called for him again, but again, there was no reply or any sign that the Shinigami was around at all.
He huffed and turned back around to walk home but collided into someone. The stranger wore a trench coat, looking much older and stood a whole head taller than him. Surprised, Light flinched and took several steps backwards.
"Ah! Sorry! I mean, excuse me, I didn't see you there." He raised his hands innocently. "Pardon my manners." He quickly bowed.
The lack of response unnerved him, more so than when Ryuk did it. 'Or maybe I'm getting used to that darn Shinigami...' Light seriously hoped not.
"Well then, excuse me..." Light was cut off as he tried to walk past. "Hey! What-!" He exclaimed angrily, glaring at the rude stranger in front of him. Light thought he was handsome close up. The man had long black hair.
"Missing someone?" The man asked him. His voice was warm against the cold evening air, but Light wasn't fooled. The longer he hung around this man, the more he felt an uneasiness with a touch of fear growing in the pit of his stomach. This man screamed 'danger'.
"Mikami Teru." The man, Mikami, introduced himself. Light looked around for Ryuk and the man followed his gesture. "Looking for someone?" He asked again, smiling at Light like he had a secret or knew his, and tucked his hands into his pockets.
"No." Light answered. "I'm expected at home... excuse me." He tried again to walk around, but Mikami blocked him once more.
Light seethed.
"What do you want?"
Mikami smiled.
"I'm glad I found you." He said instead. Light felt a shiver run down his spine and secretly hoped that Ryuk would appear, though he would never admit it. 'Would he help me right now?' Light wondered.
'I have no choice... I have to run.'
A heavy pressure weighed down on Light's shoulder and surprised him. When he looked over his shoulder, he saw nothing, but he could still feel the sensation of a large hand gripping him and holding him in place. Then he realized and he gasped.
'...A Shinigami!? Here!?'
Mikami smiled knowingly at him.
'Kira!?'
"Your Shinigami's name is Ryuk, am I right?" Mikami asked, bringing an index finger to his lips as he shushed him. The stranger acted as if they were sharing a secret together. Light flinched. "I heard you calling around for him... How fortunate for us that he left you alone."
'Us?' Light thought. He blinked when car lights flashed and blinded him.
A limousine had rounded the corner and when it pulled up beside them, Mikami gestured for him to go. Light stared fearfully and shook his head. The invisible force behind him shoved him forward. Feeling helpless, Light obediently climbed in. Mikami followed behind with a huge grin on his face. He shut the door while looking pleased.
"Good choice." Mikami beamed.
X
They'd been riding for a while and Light fidgeted the entire time. A vent beside him blew warm air on him and warmed his chilled fingers.
Mikami ignored him, for the most part. Occasionally, he'd glance at him and check him out. Light did his best to appear as small and harmless as possible. He fearfully remembered what Mikami had told him earlier.
'They've been looking for me...' Light thought to himself. That's what Mikami told him. 'But, why? He must mean Kira... how did he know that I'm an owner of the Death Note...' He peered out of the tinted window beside him, seeing grassy hills surrounding them.
'I don't recognize the area... where are we going?' His hands shook in his lap.
Mikami leaned toward the front to speak with the driver. Light stared.
'This is bad...'
X
Light didn't remember anything besides being left alone in the limo and suddenly blacking out. When he awoke, he was blindfolded and suffering from a horrific pain on his side. When he coughed, he bounced on a plush surface. He felt cold chains shackling him to a bed and hindering his movements. He felt the soft texture beneath him with his hands.
'A bed?' He drowsily thought. He felt drugged. 'They drugged me... in the limo...' The reason that he had been left there by himself while Mikami had gone. Mikami had shut and locked the door behind him so that Light couldn't escape. 'It must've been a gas...' He could vaguely remember seeing fumes rise from the vents before passing out, but he felt too sluggish at the moment to think clearly.
"How are you feeling?" A voice suddenly spoke up beside him. Light would've jumped out of the bed that he was in if he were able to, but the chains kept him firmly in place. He lifted a hand and shook it, the hanging chain rattled loudly in the room, before dropping it back down to the bed. Light heard himself whimper and tears formed in his eyes in embarrassment. A hand soothingly covered his own. Light shuddered at the feeling of another's skin on his.
Fingers painfully prodded his aching side and sent a bolt of pain coursing through his body. Light hissed out loud and attempted to lean away from the offending appendage. His kidnapper painfully squeezed his hand and pulled him back. There was a rustling sound and pressure on his side as the man fiddled with something attached to him. 'A bandage?' Light wondered and he flinched when even more thoughts came to mind.
'How long have I been out?' Light could smell BBQ wafting in the air and into his nose. He sniffed hungrily and his stomach growled. The man above him chuckled. Light blushed and turned away from the sound.
"Don't be shy with me..." The man's deep voice gently told him, stroking Light's fingers tenderly. "Have dinner with me." Hands scooped him up under his armpits and lifted him up into a sitting position. Light felt nauseous. "There we are." He told Light, patting his head, but he left the chains and blindfold.
Light hesitated to ask for water, even though he was feeling extremely thirsty. His dry tongue licked his chapped lips until a cold glass touched his mouth gently. The man lightly sloshed water on his lips to wet them. Light felt as if he had lost all of his pride when he found himself thoughtlessly and greedily opening his mouth. He was helpless with his arms hanging and stretched out uselessly at his sides. Cuffs were bolted tightly around his wrists and the metal tore into his skin. He strained to reach and press himself as far into the bedding as possible; it was the only way to slacken the chains that bound his wrists and give himself relief. He groaned.
"You'll be home soon. Do you have any questions for me?" The man's voice was unfamiliar; Light had never heard it before. He wondered if Light had questions and he did.
"W-What did you do to me?" His voice came out raspy. The first question that had come to his mind was what condition his body was in, but he couldn't find the words.
'So much for being a genius...' Light thought, biting his lips nervously.
The man chuckled.
"Ah... that reminds me." The man released the hand he'd been clutching and moved away from the bed. Light held his breath to try and listen. He heard chuckling at the foot of the bed, near his feet, and the sound of glass clanking together.
"Breathe. You'll be returned to your family soon enough..." His deep voice trailed off. There was a sharp tapping sound and Light felt himself being grabbed.
"W-what-!?"
Light flinched as a needle dug into his skin, then groaned as he felt an icy coldness flood into his veins. His body went limp; he was numb.
'Pain medicine...'
Ligjy shook his head, feeling lightweight and groggy, and began to rock from exhaustion. Fingers pressed into his side and he groaned, feeling the ache, and wondered again what had been done to him.
As if reading his thoughts, his captor finally answered, while placing a hand on his chest and pushing him down to the bed. "My mark..." He simply stated. An arm wrapped around him and supported his back to help him lay down; he didn't bother to struggle. Hair tickled his face as the man closed in on him. Light shivered and felt him get close until the stretch of his growing smile brushed against his skin. He was tickled by lips on his ear and a smooth hand under his shirt.
"S-stop..."
Light trembled, his eyes filling with tears. The man persisted and lowered his hand to unbuckle his pants. A few tears slipped down his cheeks, earning himself a chuckle. Gentle fingers wiped them away. A hand was pulling his pants down while the other pushed fingers into his mouth.
The man chuckled.
"You ask me what I've done to you? Well... you'll be reminded of who your owner is every time you see it..." Light felt a sense of foreboding creeping in on him.
Lips touched his ear.
"I am Kira."

At that moment, for the first time in his life, Light couldn't think of anything more than a single thought. His entire body was on fire. He was being consumed by one man, by Kira.
While the bed squeaked, Light cried and shouted as Kira pounded into him mercilessly. Before now, he had been a virgin; he had never been with a man or woman. He cried even harder. Hands dug his hips as Kira yanked him up and down onto a monstrous cock. Light gagged and choked on his own spit. His hands felt slick and sticky with blood from the tears on his wrists. As Light bounced, his hole squelched from lube and Kira's spit, he could only hack from his sore throat in response to the pain.
His voice was gone. His throat cracked from screaming and from being forced to deep throat a stranger's cock. Kira had humped his face and railed his throat until he'd gone limp and stopped struggling. When he had, Kira moved on to lowering himself down to his lower hole; shaming and degrading him as he stretched him. He had smacked Light's bottom until it felt hot and raw.
Kira continued to fuck him until he tensed and the cock inside Light began to swell and harden. Light shouted as he was stretched even more. He felt a sudden warmth fill his insides. Light yowled in disgust as Kira thrusted his seed into him, chuckling and sounding pleased with himself. Kira pulled out with a satisfied groan. The boy shook and sobbed openly beneath him. Kira watched as the shadows surrounding them came alive and crawled toward him.
Kira cocked his head, as if listening to a voice in his ear, and then grinned. "So that's your power. About time." He clutched his captive's throat, cutting off his airway, and strangled him until the shadows hesitated and retreated. The boy's throat flexed under his hand as he sputtered, coughing and gasping for air, but he cut him off again.
Squeezing his hand, Kira watched in fascination as the body beneath him shook. He smiled, even though Light couldn't see. For a second, his eyes flashed red and he looked over the boy's head.
"My eyes are how I knew that you were also an owner of the Death Note. When you wake up, we will get cleaned up, have dinner, and play a little game... now, sleep."
Light fell into a fitful sleep.

The blindfold was taken off.
Light sat at a desk, stomach full from the meal prior, and looked at the pictures placed beside a basket of apples on the coffee table in front of him. He blinked and stared at the apples, 'Is it coincidence?' Kira stood behind him, hidden from his sight, with only a hand appearing beside him to point.
"We're going to play a little game." Kira told him. "Pick them up." He ordered Light, who quickly scooped up the pictures.
"These are..." Light trailed off. In his hands were profiles of criminals. 'What is he planning?'
A hand rested on his shoulder.
"I want you to play with them."
Light could hear the grin, feel the excitement in the air, but didn't understand anything that was going on. 'What does he mean... play with them?' Light thought. 'Is he talking about my power?' He faintly recalled something happening the night before and being the cause of it until Kira took over and restrained him. The memory of what Kira had told him, while he'd been reigning in Light's own power, as if it had belonged to Kira himself, was still fresh in his mind.
"My mark is on you, your power is mine."
Kira had taken his power like it was nothing. If his Shinigami, Ryuk, knew of this, he'd be fuming and wanting to tear Kira limb to limb. Light hadn't heard of an ability to steal another Death Note owner's powers, but he was new to all of this.
Light knew that Kira killed by heart attacks, so he knew that there had to be another explanation, but seeing the burn mark reflected in the bathroom mirror and the explanation that had come with it had disgusted him, along with the other marks that had been left behind by Kira. He had lost everything that he'd eaten that day after seeing himself.
Light shuddered. They had burned him while he'd been asleep, as if he were cattle. Scarred and controlled by Kira, for as long as either one of them was alive, at least. In only a few days, Kira had taken more from him than anyone else, including his life. Light clenched his fists at the thought. 'I refuse to be his slave.'
"I'm going to enjoy this." Kira exclaimed from behind Light. He pointed, "Let's begin... be ready, L."

Shadows began to move mysteriously inside a prison, where they danced, captured, and dragged a prisoner around until disappearing shortly before he collapsed.
Blood dripped from the prison wall. A message had been written by the prisoner before his death.
"L...Do you know... Shinigami love apples?"

Light walked through the front doors with his legs barely able to support him. He passed by Ryuk, who had rushed to the front door to greet him with a million questions, without a glance. 'I'll explain it to him in a minute...' Light thought to himself.
Phone in his hand, Light trudged up the stairway. He had read and caught up to the messages that Kira had sent to his family and schoolmates to cover up his disappearance; nobody had any idea what he'd been going through, he barely believed it himself.
'I'm just so relieved to be home...'
His backside ached.
Following his shower, he followed Kira's orders to sit at his desk at home and do his bidding. Ryuk watched with interest as his human used his powers, witnessing the moment Light's soul departed with the shadows to take control of another.
'My Light disappears and comes back all powerful...' Ryuk pondered.

Light wandered along the shadows into prisons as he controlled criminals for Kira. His heart ached as he tortured them, feeling his body at home weep before his Shinigami, who watched the tears fall with interest, but he had no other choice. Light was under Kira's control and as soon as he returned to his body, he'd have to contact Kira.
Ryuk watched his human from a distance while he thought to himself. He cracked his fingers with his eyes glowing red. In the darkness, Ryuk thought of the one human that he despised the most.
'Kira...' Ryuk bared his sharp teeth with malace.

In a hotel room, a young male slouched and itched the back of his leg with a bare foot. The small group of men in front of him stared in disbelief. He lifted his hand, pointing directly at them with his thumb finger sticking straight up, and grimly cried.
"Bang. Bang."
The men looked confused, so he explained himself with a thumb on the corner of his mouth, "If I was Kira, you'd all be dead." He smiled at them and they all slumped at the truth in his statement.
The leader of the group stepped forward. Soichiro Yagami stood proud and determined; looking pointedly at the man claiming to be L.
"Are you L?" He asked.
"Mr. Yagami, correct?" That was a rhetorical question, of course. He turned, "Thank-you all for coming here. Since you're all here, I'd like to begin now. Please, take a seat." He gestured at the chairs set up in the living room and wandered over, lifting his feet up on the seat and wiggling his toes, before gesturing for the rest to follow suit. They all obliged and took a seat.
L sipped on his sugary tea before setting it down and picking up a slice of cake. He took a bite before announcing eagerly, "We will be working together to catch Kira, let's do well." His newfound team nodded in agreement. His butler, Watari, placed a pile of folders on the table.
"Here you are, gentleman." Watari announced in a grandfatherly voice.
"Thank-you, Watari." L said.
'No more games, Kira...' L thought darkly. He bit his thumb and pointed at the folders on the table to the men sitting with him.
"Gentleman, we have much to discuss..."

A beautiful girl hummed as she applied her makeup, a gothic cross swinging from her neck as she leaned in closer to the mirror in front of her, and smacked her wet lips. The purple color stood out and she smiled in happiness at her reflection.
A small hand reached for a notebook on her dressing room table and stroked the cover. There was silence after her humming stopped.
A flame sparked from a lighter in her hand. Her bong bubbling as she sucked. She blew the smoke out at the towering figuring behind her. Her highlighted red eyes gleamed in the darkness as her Shinigami watched with interest.
"I must find Kira..." She moaned.
