It took all night plus lots of preparation. On Valentine's when Kagome presented him with that heart shaped box full of chocolates, he had no clue how much work that treat would lead to. When Sota made the comment that day about how Inuyasha better not mess up and forget to return the favor in a month, he knew he couldn't risk messing this up and hurting Kagome's feelings. So after getting the low down on White Day from Mama Higurashi, he decided to go all out.

Now, after an overwhelming shopping trip, lots of how-to videos, and a whole night of messy work, the white chocolate hearts were done. Inuyasha took a moment to stare at them, proud of his work. 'Huh, they actually don't look half bad,' he thought, 'but what matters is what Kagome thinks of them.' The sun has started to come up and it won't be long before she wakes and comes to find him. Inuyasha hopes he doesn't worry her too much when she realizes he's not there.

'Anyway, time to box these babies up.' As Inuyasha fills the box, he realizes he made more than enough to fill it. 'Oh well,' he though, 'guess that leaves some for me.' He plops one in his mouth and is pleased with the taste. They taste even better than the ones she made for him. But he knows pointing that out would only end in a string of "sits" and a hurt Kagome.

All done, Inuyasha looks around at the kitchen. Dirty dishes fill the sink. The counter is covered in ingredients and a few failed batches. White smudges of chocolate and this ingredient or that seemed to make it onto literary everything, including himself. But the footsteps he hears tells him there's no time to worry about that now.

...

The bed is cold. Kagome has curled herself up into a ball and pulled the covers tightly around herself, but still can't get warm. Daylight comes, and as the drowsiness fades, she realizes why she couldn't get comfortable. Inuyasha is gone. 'What's he doing up?' she wonders, 'It wasn't a new moon night.' 'Oh no," she realizes, 'what if he had a bad nightmare and couldn't go back to sleep?' It's been so long since he's had one of those, thank goodness. But what else could it be? Kagome sits up and starts to hasten, wanting to hurry and get to Inuyasha to comfort him.

Groggy, she jumps out of bed a scurries down the hallway, expecting to see Inuyasha sitting quietly by the fireplace or maybe see him through the window sitting in his tree. The last thing she expected to see was a messy, adorable Inuyasha standing there holding a red box out towards her with wide eyes full of anticipation.

Kagome paused, taken aback by this surprise. She slowly looked around at the messy kitchen, taking this in. He made something for her. He cooked it himself, with his own hands. All the evidence was right there. You could smell the sweet scent of white chocolate coming from him. This is what he was doing all night. She took a step forward and looked down into the box. It was filled with the white chocolates, heart shaped ones. They looked so pretty with pink and red sprinkles on them. He MADE these for her. She was so overwhelmingly touched. She couldn't hold the tears back anymore and they began to pour.

...

"Oh God!" Inuyasha exclaimed, "No please don't cry! I'm sorry!" 'Ah shit,' he thought to himself. He knew she might be mad about the kitchen but he didn't know it would upset her this much. "I'm really sorry about the mess, Kagome. I promise I'll clean it all up, good as new. I swear, you won't have to do a thing."

Laughter. Laughter started pouring out of Kagome along with the tears. "No you silly dog!", she struggled to get out while laughing. "I don't care about that. These are happy tears."

"They are?" Inuyasha asked, letting out a sigh of relief. Then he couldn't help but let out a good laugh, too. Inuyasha took a step towards Kagome, closing the distance between them, and placed the box of chocolates in her hands. He pushed some of her messy hair back, tucking it behind her ear, then smiled down at her. She smiled back up at him and leaned up on her tippy toes, meeting him for a long, wonderful kiss.

"Thank you for the chocolates," she said after, as she rubbed his nose with hers, giving him an eskimo kiss.

"Ah, it was nothing," said Inuyasha, but his cheeks turned red and Kagome knew it definitely wasn't nothing. "Anyway," Inuyasha said, realizing he was blushing and wanting to change the subject, "shouldn't you try the chocolate and make sure it's good before thanking me."

"Hmmm, you're right," Kagome said in a suspicious tone, right before leaning up, grabbing his face, and giving one of his cheeks a good lick in a spot where he'd gotten some of the chocolate.

"Hey!" Inuyasha shouted as he laughed and smiled, "that's not what I meant."

"Veeerrryyyy tasty," Kagome said before giving him a wink.

"Oh am I now!" he smirked, wrapping an arm around her waist and pulling her close. "You know," he said mischievously, I have a bowl over there with some chocolate that didn't harden. What do you say we have some fun with it and you can see what other parts of me are tasty?"

Kagome took one of the chocolate hearts from the box and put it between her lips, slowly sucking on in and taking it into her mouth with her tong, before saying, "You're on, dog boy."

As Inuyasha excitedly walked away to get the bowl, he couldn't help but hear Kagome mutter to herself "Damn, these chocolates are better than the ones I made."

Inuyasha just smiled and looked down at the mess from his labor of love and thought to himself, 'Worth it.'
