Disclaimer: I don't own X-Men:Evolution or it's characters. Just my OC, Molly Callum/Creature and any original characters/background characters that may pop up from time to time.
AN: This is like 90% wedding planning fluff, sorry! The plot didn't really appear, so I don't know what else to call it, but not every story has to be action and adventure. This is also probably the closest the series will come to a clip show at some parts, I realized as I wrote it.
Molly banged down the door to Avengers tower. She knew it was late, but she didn't know where else to turn to. (Freddy was a great friend, but he and the Brotherhood Boys wouldn't understand. Same for Forge.) Thankfully, the X-Men and Avengers had become great allies and friends. Molly had found a sort-of mentor in Tony, even if they hadn't gotten off on the right foot at first. She knew he kept late nights tinkering down in his work-shop. He promised if she or the team needed anything, he'd be there for her. Molly rang the bell incessantly, partly out of anger, partly because it was raining and deeply cold outside. The weather seemed to echo Molly's dark mood, her fury.
Tony finally answered the door.
"Molly? What's going on?"
"I need someone to talk to," Molly said, "It's a lot. I know it's late, but can I come in?"
"Sure. Anything you need, Squirt, I'm here. Let's get you warm and dry," Tony put an arm around her, leading her in.
Molly sat in Tony's workshop. Molly had been provided a change of clothes-lounge pants and a white hoodie-and had a towel over her shoulders. "Start talking, I'll listen," Tony started tightening a bolt on a grey Iron Man suit with a wrench.
Molly took in a breath. "I'm sure you've heard of Magneto? Horrible guy. So horrible, he tortured our Professor. So Remy and our friends came back from Paris tonight to see him standing in our house. He says he's on the run from our enemies-this team called Splicers-and he wants asylum. So, instead of all of us talking it over like we always do, the Professor pulled the rug out from under us, says he knows what we're going to say and decides to let Magneto stay. His word is final. On top of that, I'm not very happy with Remy. We just got engaged and he says we should give Magneto a second chance! A second chance after everything he did! Can you believe it?"
"First, congratulations," Tony said, "Second, I can see where Remy's coming from. I've heard of the Splicers too. They were all over the Black Market a few months ago. I don't blame Magneto for going to your team for asylum. Those guys are tricky. That said, team decisions are important.
You guys aren't kids, you're equals and need to be treated as adults. I know tensions have to be running high over there now, so I won't pry, but I can call the Professor tomorrow if you want. Try and make him see a different point of view."
"That's a nice offer, but I'm not sure. It's not that I don't see his point, I do. He's right, we reject Magneto, he dies. Period. But I think we all need to have a say about it, even if the result will be the same. The Professor did teach us to help people in need, but also taught us to protect ourselves from the worst of the worst. It's a thin line and I don't know what the right answer is," Molly admitted, "Anyway, I need to call Remy."
"Jarvis, call Gambit, please," Tony said, stepping out into the hallway.
The phone rang a couple of times.
"Hello? Molly?" Remy answered.
"It's me," Molly answered, "I know I rushed out and I'm sorry."
"I get it. No one's happy here either. Rogue's downstairs destroying the Danger Room. So I guess you made it to Tony's okay?"
"Yeah, I'm okay." Molly said, "I'm just not sure if I want to come back yet, Remy. I might crash here, the place has extra beds. You get it, right?"
"I get it. I'd rather have you here, but I know you're safe there too."
"I don't know how to handle this, Remy. I don't know what to think. I'm really mad at the Professor right now. And...and you had a point, everyone deserves a second chance. I know Magneto's in a tight spot, but I still don't think..."
"Well, the Professor made the decision for us. Even if we don't like it, he made it easier. We might just have to live with it for now," Remy said.
"Maybe. I'll see you tomorrow, okay?"
"Okay. Call me if you need me. Love you," Remy said.
"Love you too. Tell everyone where I am so that don't freak out."
"Yeah. Bye, Molly."
"Bye, Remy."
Against her better judgement, Molly found herself climbing into one of the extra beds to stay over. It was feather soft and very comfortable, but she tossed and turned all night, not getting sleep until six am.
The next morning, she felt someone shaking her awake.
"Huh? Wha-? Kurt? Guys?" Molly looked around to see everyone standing around the bed.
"Sorry to wake you, but when we didn't hear from you after breakfast, we got worried." Kurt said.
"What time is it?"
"Almost ten," Remy answered.
"No wonder I feel like crap. I didn't get to sleep until like six," Molly groaned, stretching.
"You're not the only one," Jean said, looking ragged.
"So...what's the update on things?" Molly got up and they went to the adjoining living room, sitting on the pristine white furniture.
"The Professor said his decision remains final," Scott sighed, "None of us agree with it either, Molly. We're just not sure what to do next."
"Well, he wasn't wrong either. Remy said it last night, the Professor made the decision for us. It was the right call, even if we don't like it. Magneto is evil and he's done horrible things, but even I don't think-we as team shouldn't think-he deserves to die. Right?" Molly asked.
Dull murmers went through the group in agreement.
"The Professor was right to take the decision away from us," Scott agreed, "We're just going to have to learn to live with it for now, as hard as that is. Who knows, maybe some good will come of it. Besides, we shouldn't let it dampen the good news for the happy couple here." Scott uncharacteristically ruffled Mollys hair with a smile. (This actually got a smile out of her.)
"I told them this morning," Remy said, looking proud.
"Uh-huh. Scott is a little scary when he's in a good mood," Molly looked surprised.
Suddenly, the Hulk came through the living room and opened up the fridge, taking a whole box of cereal and downing it. "You want stay for breakfast?"
They decided to stay at the Avengers for breakfast, since the climate still wasn't entirely favorable back at the mansion.
Molly learned that what was left of Magneto's followers were starting to move in, so everyone decided it would be best to stay away from that chaos for a few hours. Meanwhile, Remy was near-desperately trying to get Molly excited again about being engaged. (Thankfully, the team had the breakfast table to themselves as the Avengers had other things going on.)
"What do you think about this cake? Or these flowers? I was thinking we could even get married at the Statue of Liberty,
what do you think, hon?" Remy held up his phone.
"Remy, I know what you're trying to do. I wasn't angry at you last night, really. I was just mad and scared because of everything else.
I wasn't happy at what you said, but I'm over it now. I'm still excited about being engaged. About us. It's just overshadowed by everything else right now," Molly squeezed his hand over the breakfast table.
"I know, Petite. We'll get through this," Remy said, a forlorn look in his eyes.
"Speaking of things going on," Scott said, "We talked to the other teachers a couple of weeks ago. Jean and I decided we, er, need some space, so we're going to build a little house on the far side of the property near the beach."
"You're moving?!" Kitty yelped out, horrified.
"We won't be far," Jean insisted, "We'll be right there, close. This is part of being married. We need to have a place of our own and some privacy."
"It's going to be fine, Kitty. We understand. It's too crowded and noisy in the mansion for anyone. Nobody can hear themselves think, much less have time to themselves," Molly said, "We'll be okay. Jean will be within walking distance and Scott will still be close enough to yell and Kurt and Remy when they mess up."
"Hey!" Kurt and Remy replied, slightly offended.
"She's right," Rogue smirked, "And maybe once y'all actually get married, Molly can reign in that ego and put a stop to Remy's shenanigans. Who knows, it might make him even grow up a little."
"Well...you're just jealous I'm off the market," Remy failed at a good come back.
"Don't make me laugh," Rogue said, leaning back in her chair.
"Are we going to have to separate you two?" Molly groaned, a hand over her hair.
"Guys, it's almost eleven-thirty. We should start heading back," Jean said. Everyone got up and headed out towards the exit.
"Okay, but first," Remy said, "Jarvis? Play some bubble-gum pop for Rogue."
They left the building with Rogue covering her ears and Remy staying out of her reach.
