They sat around talking more, getting the private time while they had it. About the wedding, about their future, about a lot of things.
"By the way," Remy smiled, "I want you to know, I did ask your dad's permission. I thought it was what you both would want, and he seemed to appreciate it. So, if you were thinking I didn't, I did. Left nothing to chance."
"Omigosh, we haven't even told my family yet!" Molly slapped a hand to her forehead, "What was I even thinking?!"
"Molly, it's okay!" Remy smiled, holding up his hands, "I handled it. I cleared it with Scott, and we're going to fly out Friday and surprise them. They'll love it. Spend the weekend there and come back Sunday night. What do you think?"
"Oh Remy. You did that just for us? You're too perfect!" Molly threw her arms around his neck, hugging him, then kissing him.
"You're welcome. Now, Petite, what do you think about looking at wedding rings? I'd like to do that sooner rather then later myself." Remy smiled.
"It's not too early?" Molly tilted her head.
"No. I'm anxious and with things being so busy, we should take advantage of today while we can. With the Acolytes moving in and the annex coming, I'm sure we're going to have our hands full this week and next," Remy explained. Xavier didn't waste any time when it came to repairs and building projects. The blue-prints for Jean and Scott's new house were being drawn up as they spoke. Besides, having the ability to blow things up or turn into an elephant (or a mule), came in readily handy when it came to construction projects. They'd learned that from the times the mansion had to be repaired.
"Okay. Should we go to the mall or did you have a store in mind?" Molly asked.
"Cherie, it's our wedding rings. Of course, I have a store in mind," Remy said.
They drove out to a store a town over, in the shopping district of part of Bridgeport. Molly had never seen such elegance.
Most of the stores were painted a pristine white, looking brand new in appearance. The streets were free of trash and the people walking around were, presumably, very rich. Tall men and women. The women in long white fur coats and chic pantsuits, wearing ten inch stilettos. The men complete business attire, with tailored suits and satin handkerchiefs. It was like this small piece of opulence and the one percent had a dress code just for the streets.
"Remy, we're really not dressed for this place. We should turn around and go change, at least!" Molly fretted.
"Cherie, ma couer, my light, I have been ten steps ahead of you since we got engaged. What makes you think this time is any different? I've got our good clothes in the trunk and made an appointment for this place. They're obviously very upscale. I didn't want to ruin the surprise," Remy said.
Remy parked in the parking garage, next to some five star restaurant and a clothing store. The jewelry store was a few stores down further. They went and changed in the bathroom of the parking garage. Never in her life had Molly seen a parking garage with a bathroom. It even had an assistant hand out warm towels in the womens! She came out in her red dress. The one she'd gotten engaged in.
They walked until they reached the store. Store was an understatement. Looking inside, there weren't just a few cases of jewelry, there were _rows_ of cases of jewelry. This wasn't the mall, this wasn't a shopping warehouse, this was big time, multi-payment, wish list shopping.
"Don't be nervous," Remy looked down at her, wearing his good charcoal gray suit, "I can afford it. Just put on your best face, my love. The people in here don't play around and look down on people like us, but I wanted to go all out for the rings. You deserve the best and so do I."
Molly mentally shook off her hesitation and smiled. Remy was going all out again, and she had no reason to stop him from this. From having his fun. He'd always enjoyed spoiling her with the finest things, so she should've expected no different. However, she wasn't going to let him run himself broke either for a couple wedding rings. There had to be limits.
They walked in and were immediately handed champagne by handsome young men in red vests. Good, Molly would need it to calm her nerves. Remy went up to the white podium check in desk with the average figured woman in a black pantsuit and pixie cut platinum blonde hair manning it.
"We have a Four o'clock appoint for LeBeau," Remy said.
The woman checked her appointment book.
"Yes, I have you right here. Right this way to Miss Evangeline." Pixie Cut led them to a small white room with a dark, polished desk and two matching, padded chairs in front of it. Only a calendar on the far wall and no decor otherwise. Behind the desk sat an achingly thin woman, dressed in a red suit and had her black hair in a beehive up do. She was scribbling something into her ledger.
"Miss Evangeline? Your four 'o clock has arrived," Pixie Cut said in the clearest, most respectful voice. Molly wasn't so sure the lady wasn't a robot. She seemed near perfection. Perfect skin, perfect diction, a model's walk. Molly wasn't comparing, she was just fascinated anyone like that could exist.
Miss Evangeline looked up. "Ah, yes! Right on ze dot! Come, come. You seet and ve shall talk about what you are looking for." The woman was prestigious, but had high energy. Excitable. Molly was reminded of a tiny Austrian born Chihuahua. (The shop keep did have a large head and didn't seem very tall, though sitting.)
They took seats, Remy holding Molly's hand. They introduced themselves.
"I like to get to know my clients before helping zem choose ze _perfect_ rings. The rings must match ze personality, to match ze inner beauty, to match ze two joined in marriage! So, tell me about yourselves, please."
"Uh, well," Remy started, "I was born and raised in Louisiana. I'm outgoing, smart, great conversationalist, smooth when getting out of a bad situation, very selfless, loving, brave, and unfortunately, I'm told I have an ego."
"Also vain and a show off," Molly scoffed, "But he's got a good heart under all that stupid brashness. Sometimes Remy's a dummy and cocky, but he's my dummy!"
"What about you, young lady?" Miss Evangeline asked pointedly.
"Um, me? I was born and raised in Nevada. I'm quiet, but I talk too much when I get nervous. I'm actually very shy. Remy says I'm brave. I try to be considerate of others, but I have a temper and Remy spoils me, so I'm a little bratty I guess. I'm a good listener, a good friend and I like my privacy. Oh, and I'm clumsy and just a goofball. I'm easy going, casual."
"You forget, Cherie," Remy looked at her sweetly, "You're warm and caring, a little vain yourself-but who wouldn't be with that body-impulsive,
quite selfless, and you always think of others before yourself. Oh, and loving. Very family oriented."
"Hmm. Opposites attract...yes...interesting. Very interesting," Evangeline held a red pencil on both ends, "How did you meet?"
"When I first came to the Xavier Institute. Nothing really special. Our professor introduced us and that was it. Remy saved my life that night, but that's become a Tuesday for us anymore," Molly laughed.
"No matter how mundane your lives may seem to you, your relationship is what _miracles_ are made of!" Evangeline's eyes lit up, "Not everyone is so fortunate to find zere better half. Mister Remy, you explain! Explain to me zis 'simple' story of life saving."
Remy smiled, running a hand over his mouth for the second time that day, but Molly could tell he was trying not to laugh. It wasn't Evangeline's accent he found funny, only her enthusiasm and all-out, crazy way of looking at things.
"Well, I only saw her as a friend-no, a kid-at first. Didn't think much of her, honestly. At dinner that night, she said she'd never been on a date and I said she was really pretty. That scared her so much, she turned into a bunny, then changed back and ran off to her room. I went and apologized. The next thing you knew, the ceiling came falling down on us because the Institute was under attack. Molly was trapped under a beam. She thought morphing again might help, but I warned against it, because it would've killed her. Eventually, she got out. It was the first of many, many adventures and of developing my truest, deepest relationship with a woman. I couldn't ask for anything more and I'm counting the seconds until I can call Molly my wife."
Molly's heart was warmed. It wasn't the first time Remy had said something so beautiful, but to admit feeling that way about Molly to a stranger made her beam with pride to be Remy's fiancée. His better half.
"I see," Evangeline nodded, "Now, Miss Molly, we know how Remy felt, but how did you feel meeting Remy?"
"Are you kidding? Look at him!-Uh, sorry. I-I've always found Remy very attractive. Since the moment we met. I fell hard for him first, but it took him a while to see me as more. And, you know, he's beyond just conventionally handsome, so other women have tried to snatch him up. Or just drool over him," Molly said.
"All good things to know. I know your time is limited, and so is mine. I will be back momentarily," Evangeline left.
"What's say you and I grab a snack after this, eh? I'm getting hungry," Remy suggested.
"Burger Bomb or Taco Hut?" Molly asked.
"Hmm. Why not both? Milkshakes and fries from Burger Bomb, a few tacos from the hut," Remy said.
"I like the way you think, but I don't need a milkshake. I've got a white dress to fit into eventually," Molly smiled huge. She couldn't wait to go wedding dress shopping.
"Of course, sorry," Remy apologized, "Small fries then."
Evangeline came back into the room, sitting at her desk.
"I have taken stock of ze inventory and have picked out several choices that I believe go best with your relationship and personalities. Zey speak to me and I hope zey shall speak to you as well. Please, come."
They followed her back to the show room, taking them to one of the far cases. Six red velvet holders had been taken out, holding pairs of rings.
Gold with a pink stone, gold with a couple diamonds, black bands with white diamonds, and others. Molly still wasn't sure how a personality could match a ring, but at this point she was down for anything. And she didn't want to disappoint Remy, he'd had such faith in this place to pick it. It wasn't either of their styles, but jewelry never came cheap, much less wedding rings. He was only trying to show Molly he could take care of her, and she loved that about him.
"Ma couer, what do you think of these?" Remy pointed. The two rings nearly matched Molly's engagement ring. Silver band, but with alternating light blue sapphires and white diamonds on both the men and women's ring. The woman's ring had a diamond on it that probably could've been mistaken for a planet. Well, it was nearly the size of Molly's pinky nail at least. Massive for a diamond.
"They're pretty. Very pretty," Molly stared, "I didn't really have anything in mind. What do you think, Remy?"
"I know jewelry. They're okay. We'll keep looking," Remy nodded.
They scoured the selection, trying to take their time, but not waste Evangeline's either. Then Molly saw it. A light rose-gold band, with several small glimmering red rubies set around a diamond. The man's ring had alternating white and red jewels to match. Stunning. It wasn't just because Remy's eyes were red or red was in Molly's uniform, but it just spoke to her. Molly didn't want any other ring. "Remy, look! This one! Totally, this one," Molly pointed excitedly, "Wait, do you like it?"
"It matches my eyes, so yeah. Not going to find that just anywhere," Remy smiled, "Let's try them on."
The rings in the proper sizes were brought out. They looked amazing.
"I don't think I want to know the price, so I'm just going to step aside," Molly said. She let Remy work it out.
He soon motioned her back.
"They're going to get cleaned and polished, and we're going to pick them up next Wednesday," Remy smiled, looking faint.
"Remy, you're sweating bullets. Don't tell me they were like a million dollars or something," Molly frowned.
"I told you, I can afford it. It's just, you know, first time buying wedding rings," Remy wiped his face with a handkerchief from his pants pocket.
"I've seen you go up against men three times your size and not break a sweat. _You_, Remy LeBeau don't just get jitters over a couple rings," Molly poked his chest.
"Okay, okay! It was a little more than I was looking to spend on two rings. I love you, I'd do anything for you, but I'm glad your family's going to chip in for the wedding a bit. I mean, tradition and all, right sweetheart?" Remy admitted.
Molly gave him one of her many friendly punches in the arm.
"That's better. Maybe this will teach you a lesson about being extravagant and trying to spoil me so much. Remy, I don't need to fancy stuff and rings that cost a couple houses worth. It's nice, Paris was great, and I love you, but I need you in my life. Not a rich lifestyle."
"I understand, Cherie, but I'll always spoil you. Even if we find ourselves living in the street, I'll find you the best bread and the softest blanket. The fanciest cardboard box money can't buy. You're mine and that won't change."
Molly hugged him tight. She didn't deserve him and that's what Remy meant. Remy spoiled her because he thought he didn't deserve her.
