Elsa was awoken from her dream by the sound and vibration of her cell phone that lay on her side table. She snapped out oh her slumber and snatched the phone up and looked at the screen, she had to squint to see it but sure enough 'unknown number' it said. Elsa immediately remembered why her phone was in such close proximity to her, she had been anxiously waiting for him to call.
She answered the phone in a casual with a hint of sleepy tone, "Hello?"
Over the phone she heard the man say in an agitated tone, "Hello? Who is this? I found this number written on a receipt in my back pocket."
"This is Elsa Wedin and yes, that's is because I put it there." she said with a light chuckle.
The man quickly changed his tone to that of a much light kind, "Ah, Ms. Wedin, how can I help you?"
"No, please just call me Elsa." she could feel a blush rising to her cheeks "I apologize for the manner in which I delivered the note but I was wondering if perhaps you would like to join me for lunch tomorrow? My treat of course."
After a moment of silence an answer was heard from the other end of the line. "Um... yes, I suppose that sounds good." said Olaf in an awkward and nervous tone.
"Fantastic!" said Elsa with what may have been a little too much excitement in her voice. "I will meet you at your stand at noon sharp, alright?"
"Alright, noon it is." said Olaf.
"See you then!" said Elsa as she reluctantly hung up the phone. 'I didn't think he would actually call, granted he didn't know it was me.' thought Elsa.
The next day rolled around and Elsa was in her final meeting before the lunch hour, anxious she kept glancing at the clock on the wall. 'Oh, the anticipation is killing me!' thought the blond woman.
Elsa had decided to wear a dress to work, rather than her usual pantsuits. Today she could care less about how out of place she looked.
As the much dreaded lunch hour approached, Olaf's thought became more and more frantic. 'Why is this woman being so nice to me? And why are we going to lunch?'
Olaf looked down at his watch, he saw it was two minutes till noon. "I guess she isn't coming after all." he said with a little smile, truth was, he was actually quite nervous, she made him quite nervous.
Olaf heard a clearing of the throat come from behind him causing the man to spin on his heal. He felt a little flutter in his heart just seeing the woman in a dress.
"Ms. Wedin" he said as he stood at attention. Elsa could only roll her eyes at his words.
"I will not tell you again, call me Elsa." said the blond woman with a smile on her face and redness on her cheeks.
Olaf looked down to the ground at her words. 'sorry but I feel like I should keep a distance from you' he thought. "Sorry about that, Elsa" said Olaf.
Truth be told, Olaf always looked forward to getting a visit from her, he thought she was beautiful and from the little they did talk, he thought she was intelligent as well, but Olaf also considered her an untouchable. Honestly the thought of just having lunch with her terrified him, but here she was reaching out and asking him to go to lunch.
In Elsa's mind, the dream made everything clear to her, she has money, power and influence, but all of that was meaningless at the end of the day, no, Elsa was unhappy, unfulfilled. The dream she had gave her direction at least. It was family that she truly longed for, a sense of being needed and belonging, she wanted to be in the company of others besides her employees.
Elsa noticed the man looking nervous and only briefly making direct eye contact with her, and when he did and their eyes met, a tinge of red flooded his cheeks as did hers. His silence as they ate made her feel slightly rejected. Elsa sought to break the silence the only way she could think of in the moment. "Are you alright?" she asked.
His eyes met hers for a second and a little smiled swept over his face. "Yeah I am fine, just enjoying the food. Thank you very much by the way."
"Are you always this quiet?" asked Elsa.
Olaf raised an eyebrow at her question. "What do you mean? Am I not talking enough?" his tone was rather concerned.
Elsa giggled a little. "No, no, your fine I- you seem a little nervous or something."
"May I ask why you invited me to lunch?" asked Olaf, his head cocked slightly.
Elsa's eye darted around for a second while she thought of a legitimate reason, however, nothing she came up with sounded better than the truth. So she took the gamble. "I..uh just wanted to get to know you a little better."
"Um, well what do you want to know?" he asked as he shoved a sandwich into his mouth, forgetting his mannerisms for a moment.
Elsa thought for a moment before deciding on just going with the basics. "Where are you from?"
"I am a local, been here my entire life." said Olaf before diving back into his food.
Elsa took a mental note of the voracity of how he ate his food. She gave a polite smile and couldn't help her self so she asked. "Did you skip breakfast this morning? They say it's the most important meal of the day ya know."
Olaf stopped chewing and immediately felt extremely self-conscious, his face turned crimson red in a split second. "Please excuse me, I have to get back, thanks for lunch" said the man as he briskly got up from his seat and left the cafe, leaving a dumbfounded Elsa sitting there with her mouth agape in confusion.
'Uhhhhh..what just happened.?' she thought as she tried to process the scene.
Later that night as she was driving home she saw Olaf packing up his stand and pushing it up against the a bike rack and locking it to it. Elsa smiled and pulled over and rolled down her passenger side window. "Hey you need a ride?" she called out of the window. Elsa figured that he must not have heard her over the traffic because he kept walking down the side walk. She resorted to giving a couple of polite honks from her horn, this time she got his attention.
'Please, no, I don't want to talk to you right now.' he thought 'maybe if I keep walking she will take a hint.'
The sound of the horn made him turn reflexively. 'Damn it.'
Olaf put of his best act and walked up the window, and greeted her politely. "Hi, Elsa. What are you doing out here this late?"
"Hey I was just leaving the office, would you like a ride?" she offered.
Olaf shook his head, "No I have a few stops to make, but thanks for the offer.".
Elsa could see right though his fake smile, she figured it's best not to pry though. 'there is something about him... more to his story.' she thought.
Instead, her curiosity go the best of her and he trailed him from a distance and he stopped a the laundry mat, but his next destination came as the biggest shock of all to her.
'Oh my... I certainly did not see that coming' thought the blond as she tried to process what she was seeing.
