Making Plans and Making Up.
Standing in the hall watching Lucy walk away from him, Charlie groaned. What was he going to do now? He had ruined everything by his reaction.
Heading down the hall he walked out the door and started towards the track. He really hoped that Linus could help him fix what had just happened.
Besides the baseball team, Track and Field was the only sport at C.M.S. High School that actually placed in events. Linus had spontaneously tried out in his Freshman year and had fallen in love. Now two years later Charlie couldn't picture his friend doing anything else.
Sitting on the bleachers he waited for Linus to finish practice. His thoughts, of course, went back to Lucy. He so badly wanted to go find her and apologize. He hated it when they were fighting.
Linus brought him out of his thoughts by clearing his throat. He was standing in front of Charlie.
"You okay?" He asked.
"Your sister and I had a fight about Schroeder. Shocking I know but she crossed the line, Linus. She was asking me to help her get him."
Linus looked sheepishly down at his hands.
"That's actually my fault. I am the one that suggested you help her."
"What? You are suppose to be on my side."
"I am." Linus put his hands up in defense.
"Then please explain how convincing Schroeder to dump Sally for Lucy is a good idea and will help her fall in love with me?"
"You are not going to convince him of anything, Charlie Brown. You won't have to because Lucy will realize she wants you instead."
"How?"
"If you spend every second with her, she will see that you are the one for her. At least that is the idea. Besides it will make you more appealing if you seem to be on her side."
"I don't know..."
"Look, how about we just try it out. If it doesn't seem to be going well by Christmas we will try something different."
Sighing Charlie nods, it couldn't hurt to try. He could try for two months, right?
"Okay good," Linus says, "First you have to get Lucy to forgive you."

Four days later Lucy was still avoiding him and Charlie had had enough. So on Saturday night he knocked on her bedroom window. He would convince her to talk to him, even if it meant sleeping outside. After the third knock she pulled back the blinds and opened the window.
"Can I help you, Charlie Brown?"
Ugh! He hated when she said his whole name. When she said Char he was filled with happiness. When she said Charlie Brown he was filled with dread. He climbed through her window.
"What are you doing?" She angrily whispered.
"You said we were best friends. But you have been ignoring me for the past four days. You don't ignore Violet that long when you are mad at her."
Lucy rolled her eyes. "That is because she wants me to be happy."
"So do I but I just think you want the wrong things, like Schroeder." Dang it, He shouldn't have said that. This being on her side was going to be harder than he thought.
"Get out! I don't want you here." Lucy started pushing him toward the window.
"Not till you forgive me." If she was mad at him Linus' plan would never work. Planting his feet she could not get him to move.
Sighing she looked up at him. "Fine. I forgive you, Char. You are my best friend and even though I am still going forward with my idea I won't ask for your help anymore."
He smiled at her because he was tired of fighting and he was going to help her. He didn't want to tell her that yet though, so he pulled her into a hug instead. That is when Linus walked in.
"Oh, sorry." Linus exclaimed.
He started to walk out but Charlie stopped him.
"Can I crash in your room tonight?" Charlie asked.
"Sure."
"Great, I will be there in a second."
When Linus left the room Charlie turned his attention back to Lucy.
"Lu, will you go to Violet's Halloween party with me?" He asked her hopeful.
"Well, I was going to go with the girls."
"We could go in matching costumes, your pick."
Lucy smiled, "Well if you insist."

A week later Charlie was standing in front of his bedroom mirror regretting everything. Maybe he did love her way too much. It wasn't the outfit per say but more that he hated Halloween.
It had never gone well for him when he was little, mainly because his neighbors hated him. Who gives kids rocks instead of candy anyway? Also he hadn't really been invited to the party. He and Violet had never been very close. They put up with each other for Lucy.
"Wow you must really like her."
Charlie spun around to see Sally standing in the doorway. She looked nice in her costume. Her and Schroeder were going as Bonnie and Clyde. She had a black pencil skirt on and a mustard yellow long sleeve shirt. The black heels and tan beret went well with the rest of the outfit but what tied it all together were the gunshots through out the shirt and on her face.
"Shhh, she is in the bathroom."
"Like she can hear us, you look nice by the way."
Looking back at the mirror Charlie smiled. He had a scull painted on one side of his face. The top half of his body was dressed in a black suit shirt, with a white bowtie, and a black jacket. The bottom half was dressed in dark red pants, he had black dress shoes on. To finish it off he had a grey top hat that had a red flower on it.
"Thank you. What makes you think I like her?" He nodded toward the bathroom door.
"Oh please, big brother you hate Halloween and you guys are dressed in matching Dia de Los Muertos costumes. Also I'm not a fool I see the way you look at her. Plus Linus mentioned something about winning her over. Which I'm all for since she currently wants my boyfriend."
Of course he told her, that boy couldn't keep a secret to save his life. Lucy came out of the bathroom and Charlie felt like he couldn't breathe. She was in a black full-length dress that had red flowers around the collar. Her face was also painted on one side. Lucy's hair was curled and there were flowers in her hair. She was so beautiful and Charlie wanted to be with her.
"You ready?" She asked as she straightened his bowtie.
"You bet."
Walking to his car he opened the door for her.
"Look at you being adorable."
Charlie smiled at that, he hoped tonight was amazing.
