Lady of the Night Watch

It is midnight and Runa sees the full moon rising. She traveled a long distance with her sharpened staff in hand, and can hear the howling of the wolves off in the distance, she stops at a stream nearby for a quick drink of the cool water. She must be in control to meet the dangers of the night. Her father, Brimir has placed her in charge of watching for their enemies in the forests. However, there is a lot on her mind. This evening her mother has stayed with her grandmother Lady Greta. Runa has followed her mother Lady Ingveldur's caravan up the mountain. She then bid her grandmother and mother farewell. She promised her sister, Hvonn that they would stay up all night. Finally she reached their village she watched as Hvonn and her father were sparring for the challenge tomorrow. As Runa watched Hvonn spar, she thought to herself, by the gods should my sister live, she will be a strong and brave queen for her people.
