A/N: Hello everyone. I am so so so sorry about not updating. Believe me, I've wanted to finish this chapter for ages, but my life is a mess and I didn't want to ruin the story. Thank you, though, for all the favs, alerts and reviews!
Intuition
Shouta woke up to sunlight streaming in from the window next to the bed. It was way too early for him to be up, so he simply decided to go back to sleep. The young man rolled over to his right side, only to find it empty. Still half-asleep, he propped up on his elbows to confirm that he indeed was alone.
"Where'd she go?" He yawned and got out of bed to look for his wife. Shouta staggered out of the room and into the hallway, where he heard clattering of pots from the kitchen downstairs. A grin found its way to his face at the thought of Sawako preparing breakfast for her parents and him. That was just like her to get up before everyone else and take care of as many chores as possible. Shouta shook his head with a fond smile and continued downstairs. He made it into the kitchen and immediately saw Sawako standing in front of the stove. A delicious smell made it to Shouta's nose, and he identified it to be his wife's pancakes.
"Good morning!" Sawako whipped around with a greeting, before he even uttered a word.
"'Morning Sawa." He yawned and trodded over to the kitchen counter, which he proceeded to lean against.
"Did you sleep well?" Sawako hummed and sent him a small smile, before returning to the pancakes.
"Just great." He grinned and ran a hand through his already messy hair.
"Breakfast is almost ready. Why don't you go get cleaned up?" Sawako suggested.
"All right." Shouta complied and yawned again. He walked out of the kitchen and upstairs again, all the while thinking about Sawako. She was so loving and sweet it made him feel all tingly inside. He'd never imagined that his high school crush would lead him to the love of his life, and now after a few years of marriage, he was as grateful as ever for having met Sawako. She was perfect no matter how he looked at it. She was passionate and devoted, always kind and cheerful and he simply couldn't imagine a day without hearing her laugh.
He kept thinking about Sawako, while getting dressed and all the way until he was down in the kitchen again. She had already set the table and her parents were also present. Greetings were exchanged over the clatter of cutlery as everyone started their meal.
"What are your plans for today?" Sawako's dad asked the couple after a while.
"We were going to see Ayane, Chizu and Ryu later today and spend some time with Touta." Sawako answered.
"If you are free before noon, you could go see the estate agent and have him show you around the neighborhood?" He suggested and returned to his pancakes.
"That sounds great. Do we know anyone who lives there?" Sawako wondered.
"Not that I know of." Shouta answered with a shrug. Everyone had finished breakfast, but no one seemed to get up. For a while, they just sat together, everyone lost in their own thoughts, but then the phone rang. Mr. Kuronuma got up to answer it, and it seemed to get the others going as well.
Sawako cleaned up the table in a matter of seconds and turned to her mother. "Mom, is there anything that needs to be done?"
"I sure you've already finished all of the chores." She chuckled and patted Sawako's head. "You could get the groceries for dinner." Sawako smiled at hearing this. Grocery shopping had always been her duty before she got married.
"I'll just write down what we need." She replied and made her way into the kitchen. Shouta looked outside the window and thought about visiting Ryu. Sawako returned and grabbed her purse before putting on her shoes.
"I'll go with you. I can help carry the bags." Shouta offered and put on his shoes. The weather was great and not a single cloud was in sight. Simply a perfect day for a walk. Mr. Kuronuma appeared in the entrance and with a knowing smile handed Sawako a business card with an address.
"Shouta! You won't believe it," she gasped after reading the name of the agent and handed him the card, "Kurumi-chan is in real estate."
"Kurumi is? Definitely didn't see that one coming." He laughed.
"Apparently, she works with Dad's friend, so maybe she'll be there today." Sawako also let out a small chuckle. "She's so pretty, I figured she'd go for a modeling career."
"Seems like she changed her priorities. Anyway, we better get going." Shouta remarked and opened the front door.
"See you later." Sawako smiled and followed her husband. "Best of luck!" Her parents called after her.
Shouta was waiting at the end of the driveway, looking pleased with himself. Sawako joined him and they entwined their fingers without noticing. They started chatting back and forth all the way down to where they were meeting with Kurumi and mr. Kuronuma's acquaintance.
The closer they got to the designated meeting place, the more excited Sawako got. She rather liked this part of the town and definitely wouldn't mind living here. The houses around them stood out and made young woman's heart beat faster. She had a good feeling about this place, and she was certain something wonderful would happen.
"What are you thinking?" Shouta's voice interrupted her thoughts. She looked at his amused expression with a small smile and tilted her head slightly to one side.
"Well, I have a feeling… Something good is going to happen today." She told him and looked around for Kurumi. They had reached the address on the card and were now waiting for someone to show up.
"Maybe we'll find a nice house." Shouta suggested thoughtfully. He also liked the neighborhood and if Sawako had a good feeling about it, then he would go with her instinct. Sawako's intuition had never failed them before, so he doubted that it would today. He started looking around again and didn't notice someone approaching.
"Kazehaya?" A surprised voice sounded behind him.
He perked up at the mention of his name and turned around grinning from ear to ear. "Hey, Kurumi." Kurumi was standing beside a broad-shouldered man, looking puzzled. She peered around Shouta's shoulder and let out a small gasp.
"Is that… Sawako-chan?"
"Hello Kurumi-chan." Sawako gave a little wave with her hand and smiled.
"I didn't know you were back." Kurumi looked thoroughly confused, but seemed to snap out of it after a second. "Where are my manners? This is my partner Arizawa Daisuke, and these are my high school friends Kazehaya Shouta and Sawako." They all shook hands in turn, exchanging pleasantries.
"I take it you are here to see the available residencies?" Daisuke started off, already getting down to business. "Yes." The couple answered.
"Let's get going then." Kurumi cheerfully suggested. The group of four started walking down the street, both agents informing them about the more general things about the neighborhood. They went into a few of the houses, each of them displaying a certain charm, but moved on soon after. Shouta and Sawako exchanged glances a few times, neither of them really liking any of the houses yet.
"So what do you think?" Kurumi asked them once they were outside again.
"Well, I liked the interior in all of them, but…" Shouta trailed off, leaving Sawako to finish for him. "They were all lovely, but none of them has really caught our eyes yet." She explained.
Kurumi and Daisuke looked over at each other and nodded. "Follow us." Kurumi told them and started walking down the street. At the end, she turned right and led them up a short flight of stairs. They reached an elevated part of the district and kept weaving their way through the streets. They didn't go far before Kurumi stopped and pointed towards the first house in a row of many.
"It's beautiful." Sawako breathed. In front of them was a white, two-storey house with a red-ish roof and a neatly trimmed lawn. The house itself wasn't that big, but Sawako's instinct told her, she would love it. And she was right. Once they went inside, they both fell in love with the interior. The living room was slightly larger than their current one, and it had sliding glass doors that led outside to a small fenced garden. The kitchen, Sawako decided, couldn't have suited them better. It was big enough to contain a dining table and also to move freely around in. The upper floor had two bedrooms and a bath. Aside from that, there were a few closets here and there and a staircase leading to the attic. The whole house was brightly lit and gave off a cozy feeling. Once down in the living room again, Shouta looked at Sawako who nodded.
"Well?" Kurumi prompted.
"We'll take it." They both answered in unison.
After inspecting the house further, signing some papers and saying bye to Kurumi and Daisuke, Shouta and Sawako left to go shopping. They were both ecstatic about the house and couldn't wait to move in. Sawako was already planning the furnishing and Shouta occasionally came with an input. Unfortunately they couldn't move in right away. There was some work to be done on the floors and the heating system wasn't installed yet. That didn't dampen their mood at all. They were still in high spirits when they entered the supermarket. Sawako told Shouta to get half of the things on the list and she would get the rest. Twenty minutes later they were heading back to Sawako's parents, plastic bags in both their hands, when Sawako spotted two familiar figures standing outside. Sawako's eyes widened in surprise and she let out a gasp.
"Ayane-chan, Chizu-chan!"
See you next time!
