Sam handed the menu back to Miss Betty, "I'll have the cob salad and an unsweetened ice tea."
She pulled a pen from her elaborate updo and jotted the order on the ticket, "Sure thing, sweetie."
Dean gave his favorite waitress a lopsided grin, knowing its effect on people, even the ladies, "I'll have the double patty melt with fries and coffee and uh, how about a slice of that banana cream pie."
Dean, Betty's favorite customer because he was handsome as all get out and a great tipper, winked at him, "for you, I'll make it an extra large slice."
"Betty, if I was into chicks and not married…"
The sixty year old blushed like a school girl and tapped him on the head with her pen, "Stop your lyin' Dean, don't want those pretty green eyes to turn brown with all your bullshit."
Sam rolled his eyes, some things never changed. Dean could always bank on his charm and exceptional beauty to get whatever he wanted.
"I'm glad you finally called me, Dean. I wanted you to be the first to know, they hired me at the law firm. I'll be moving here permanently. I just need to drive out to California and get my stuff." Dean watched as Sam slowly tore off bits of his napkin, a nervous habit from childhood.
"First off, congrats baby brother. It'll be good to have you back home again. So what else is on your mind?"
Sam told his brother the entire story of Jess, their engagement, his feelings for Alfie and how his relationship with Jess had changed.
"I need to go back and tell her everything."
"Are you gonna break it off?"
"I think its best. I can't marry someone if I feel this torn; it's not fair to Jess."
They ate in silence. Dean mulled over what Sam had shared and Sam was thinking ahead to the trip back to California. When Dean finished his last bite of pie he sat back and let out a contented sigh.
"How about I drive you down there, you can rent a truck and I'll help you pack everything up. I might even let you drive Baby on the way down."
"Really? Thanks Dean!"
"No problem, anything for my Sammy."
…..
Alfie didn't mind working Tuesdays at Wellspring, it was senior day and the old guys were polite for the most part and always tipped generously just for the fact that Alfie was a young, cute Omega.
He slid the big glass of fresh mango madness over to Wilfred, "There you go, enjoy."
The old man handed him ten bucks, "Keep the change, cutie."
The guys Alfie didn't like were the gym rats and muscle heads who constantly hit on him no matter how many times he told them to get lost. Plus they were shitty tippers.
As if on cue, Keith, one of the roided up muscle heads appeared and ordered a lean green protein shake and then hit on Alfie. He had the kind of reeky Alpha smell that was gut turning, like a filled diaper in a garbage heap in the middle of July.
"Come on, baby, your twenty five, that's old maid territory where I come from. How about you give me a chance, you never know what could happen. I might even put a baby in that bank vault between your legs."
From behind Keith came a deep, booming voice, "How about you go fuck yourself and leave him alone."
Keith spun around, ready to confront the interloper and was surprised to face the guy's chest. His head slowly tilted back as he took in all of the young Alpha standing in front of him. "Holy shit, he's a giant…" He quickly calculated the chances of this guy winning in a fist fight and decided not to risk it.
"Hey, sorry bro, I didn't know he was taken."
Sam stared down at him with eyes that reminded Keith of a wolf on the hunt. He hustled his ass out as quick as possible without actually running.
Alfie couldn't help but smile even though he was angry with Sam. It was hard to stay mad when the guy just came to the rescue plus looked extra adorable in his one good suit. Sam was holding a bouquet of flowers, a bag from Build a Bear and a jumbo Kit Kat bar.
"I didn't need your help; I deal with creeps all the time. I'm not some hothouse flower, you know. I've gone this far in life without you, Sam Winchester and I've made it just fine. Don't you have a girlfriend to call or something?"
Sam held out the flowers, candy and bag, "Kit Kats are your favorite and I know you like daisies and I built you a bear…its dressed like a nerd and has extra shaggy fur."
Alfie took the gifts but he didn't look happy at all, in fact his eyes were tear filled.
"Sam, I can't play second fiddle, I'd rather be alone the rest of my life than share you with someone else. How could you not tell me this right away before I made a fool out of myself the other night?"
Sam grasped Alfie's shoulders and bent down to look him in the eye, "Please trust me. Dean and I are going to California to pick up my stuff and I promise, I'm going to break up with Jess. Will you give me a chance?"
"Yes, I'll give you a chance if you follow through and come back home."
Sam dimpled up, "Great, you won't regret this."
Alfie watched as the Alpha practically galloped out the door. He pulled the bear from the Build a Bear bag and rubbed its fur against his cheek then sniffed it. Sam had rubbed his scent all over it.
Alfie decided to call the bear, Little Sam.

Spencer had observed the Romeo and Juliet moment between Beau and Jack. He waited for the moment he could get Beau alone and set the teen straight. He'd always liked the kid just fine but anyone sniffing around a boy Jacks age, no matter how innocent the intent was a step too far.
"Beau, I like you, you're a good kid and a good influence on Alex and I appreciate your loyalty and friendship to my granddaughter."
"Thank you, sir."
"Damn, that kid is polite."
"I saw you talking to Jack outside the window. I have to set you straight on something, Jack is off limits. He's twelve and your fifteen, there is no way that's going to happen."
Beau turned red as a beet, mortified over fact that Spencer saw them and worse, thought Beau was chasing after Jack like some jackal in heat.
"Sir, he's like a little brother to me, always has been. I just felt bad because the kid has to stay inside."
"Bullshit. Look, I believe that you actually believe that's all it was but I know better. Jack is a handsome boy at the most fragile time in his development and he's got a crush on you," Spencer waved his hand up and down at Beau, "You've got all this going on so its natural you'd have Omegas and girls after your pretty ass but when it comes to Jack, no…just no."
Beau's embarrassment turned to anger, "You don't know me, Mr. Novak. As an Alpha you go by what you think all boys are like, well I'm here to tell you that as a Beta and someone raised to respect the fairer sexes, that I'd rather chew my foot out of a bear trap than do anything to hurt Jack."
"Now hold on, son…"
"I'm not your son and I won't stop being Jack's friend. As for whatever it is you think I'm up to, well think again." Beau tilted his chin up and shot Spencer a hard look, "Good day to you, sir."
Spencer just stood there with his mouth hanging open as Beau walked over to his bike, hopped on and rode off into the sunset.
Scotty appeared with a fruity cocktail and handed it to his husband. "What was that all about?"
"Wow, that young man has some real balls."
The Omega purred, "They are almost as impressive as his penis. Someone should tell Beau not to wear a white swimsuit but it won't be me."
….
Sam stayed outside while Dean packed for their California road trip. It was a good thing because Castiel went into a meltdown, well, as much of a meltdown as the reserved Alpha could have.
"Dean, you just got back!"
"Yeah, I know but we fucked enough to tide you over for a little while, right?" He sniffed a pair of socks before tossing them into his duffle bag.
"It's not about the sex."
"It's all about the pussy, babe." Dean watched as Cas' expression changed from anger to emotional pain, the Omega had gone too far, had been too flippant. "I'm just teasing, honey."
"Well it's not funny to me."
"Oh man, he's pouting…"
Dean took Cas into his arms and bumped foreheads with his Alpha then kissed him on the nose, "I love you and I'll miss you but Sammy needs me. Its more than just helping him pack up his stuff, the guy is gonna break it off with his woman and you know Sam, he's over emotional so I have to be the strong big brother for him. Besides, the quicker I help him do this the quicker he can settle back here."
Castiel relented, seeing the wisdom in this trip. "It will be nice to have Sam home again. Just promise me you won't dilly dally."
Dean held a hand to his heart, and raised the other, "I swear not to dilly dally, whatever that is."
Castiel watched from the porch as the Impala rumbled down the gravel drive. He missed Dean already.
