Prt 4/6
I stand up from the ground, staring at the box underneath the bed. Mary has this small wooden box she keeps underneath her bed. She rarely takes it out, and when she does, I'm not there to see what's inside. I turn around to look at the door behind me, wide open. Then I look back at the box underneath the bed. ...Desperate times call for desperate measures. I walk back to the door and peak outside into the hallway to see if there was still anyone here. All still quiet. I then step back into Mary's room and slowly push the door shut. Mary, if there's one time I don't want you to be here, right now would be that time.
I slowly walk up to Mary's bed to where the box was hiding underneath. I look around the room one last time to see if there was anything here watching me. Then I look back at the box, took a deep breath, then got down to my knees and reached over to it and pulled it out of the bed's shadow. I stood there looking at the box now exposed to the outside light. Both of my hands were resting on top of it's lid. I can see little curvy designs engraved throughout the box on its lid and on the container itself. What I'm doing right now is worse than entering Leanna's room. Worse than leaving the house at midnight. But without any leads, and my curiosity getting to me, I have to see what the box has.
Mary's box is extremely off limits, and practically a death sentence if she sees me or anyone else with it. Knowing Mary, she's one of the nicest people ever when it comes to Pokémon and other people as well. Something about her experience with Pokémon always gives a warm feeling when you're with her. The worst she has ever acted when I've done something wrong was that she would be disappointed in me. Not mad or upset and start yelling or crying or anything, just disappointed. Of course, I'd then get grounded after words, but still. But when it comes to Mary's box... I never would have known that she could get angry if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. It was terrifying. The first, and I'm hoping will be the last time, she saw me with her box, she yelled at me to never touch it ever again. I honestly thought she was going to end up shouting me apart. After that, I was too scared to see her again. I ended up hiding underneath the bathroom's sink cabinet for what felt like an hour probably when she then found me. But when she did, she was crying with sobbing tears and everything, and was saying that she was sorry for yelling at me. I kind of felt like she was sort of the victim instead of me after that.
As for the box itself, wellll... it's locked. This is probably my third time looking at the box and I'm going to be honest, even if I could get it open, I'm afraid of what I might find inside. From last time when I looked at the box when Mary didn't catch me, I tipped the box over and heard something metal inside. It felt like there was two metal things inside from what I could tell. But one thing I definitely remember hearing from inside was an odd light "ting" noise. The sound was soft but it felt bright when it went off. It reminded me of those small box things that you would crank up to make music play. I could only wonder what kind of music this thing would play if whatever was in it was one of those things.
I continued looking at the box underneath my hands for a second in silence. I then put my right hand to the side of the container and used my other hand to try and lift the lid open. Nothing. Not even a budge. Guess it's still locked. I looked at the front of the box to see a metal key hole sitting securely. Mary holds the key to this thing. She always has it with her, even in her sleep. Although she doesn't keep it in her bag. From what I think I remember seeing, she keeps it around her neck. Like on a necklace or something. I wonder if she has it on her right now.
"...Hmh!"
I grab on both sides of the box and push it back into the darkness underneath Mary's bed. Well, with this thing being locked, having it out here isn't going to do me any more good. I step away from Mary's bed and look around the room again. There has to be something else here that can help me. I turn around and look at Mary's desk with the computer on it. The computer! You can do a bunch of things on this thing. I ran up to the chair in front of Mary's desk and climbed up onto it to get onto the desk. I remember Mary searching up things about other Pokémon before whenever she would go out for her job. Maybe this thing can tell me where Mary is as well! I push the black board full of buttons and letters away from the edge of the desk towards the screen more to give myself some more room to stand on, then I climbed onto the desk.
"Okaaayy. Now, how do I get you to work?" The computer screen stood black, completely off in front of me. "I guess I should... turn you on...?"
I lean in towards the screen and grab hold of the top of it and tilt it towards me to look at its back. There's no buttons anywhere on this thing. Just wires connecting to the back of it. I tilt it back forward and let go, looking at the blank screen some more. Ok, so we have the screen, the giant black rectangle box to the left, the black board with buttons, and the mouse to the right. Although it doesn't look anything like a mouse to me. Hmm... All of this stuff should be connected together, right? So maybe one of these buttons on the black board will get it to turn on. I start examining the board full of letters in front of me on the desk. "A. F. G. K. X. V. M..." I don't see anything that says "ON" on it so maybe I have to spell it out? Or what if... Maybe this giant long button does something. At the bottom of the board sat a big long button with no writing on it. This thing has to be important, why else would they put it here? I lift up my foot and push down on the button with it. Then I lift it back up and looked back up at the screen. It stood there blankly with nothing on it still. Just right when I looked away though to try pressing another button, the screen suddenly lit up white turning on in front of me. Haha! It worked! I'm better with this technology stuff than I thought.
In front of me on the screen showed a picture of a Rattata Pokémon with a bunch of words all over underneath and beside it. This must be the last thing Mary searched up before we left for her job a couple days ago. A Rattata, hmm... How do I get it to find Mary on this thing? The black board by my feet was filled with buttons and letters from top to bottom, almost like all those numbers on Mary's phone but much more complicated. How do people even figure out how to get these things to work? I looked over to the right of the black board at the computer mouse. I've seen Mary use that thing a lot when she used the computer. There's only two buttons on it so maybe I should start with trying to use that. I took a few steps closer over to the computer mouse and picked it up by the wire in the front, then I stepped back in front of the screen. A red light from underneath the mouse shined onto the black board and the wall behind the screen. Riiiight, I think this thing has a laser in it or something. You have to move it on the table to get it to work. I placed the mouse down beside me and tried pushing it with my foot, then I looked back up at the screen. I moved it again when I then noticed a tiny little arrow on the screen move just as when I moved the mouse. There it is. That arrow is the thing that controls the computer on the screen, like... to search up... Mary, maybe? I look back down at the mouse and position my foot on top of it with my toe claws right over the buttons.
