Chapter 10: Syd is Vicious

Hey everyone! It's me, sakuraphoenix, and I'm back with a new chapter! I know, I'm lame with updates! I just graduated from high school, so I'm officially a high school graduate, not so much college student, yet. Anyways, disclaimer time.

Disclaimer: I do not own Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's. I also do not own Winston or John. They all belong to D.J. Scales.

Anyways, this will begin in Dawn's point of view, and enjoy.

Why did I convince myself to do a stakeout with Carly? With Jack tagging along nonetheless. On the plus side, at least Winston is with me.

*Flashback*

The day just ended, and I was cleaning up the chemistry lab, since it was my turn to do it today when Winston came into the room. I quickly summoned Destiny Hero – Dawn to help me finish the job.

"So, Dawn did you hear the rumors?" asked Winston

"What rumors?" I asked

"Duel Runner thefts have been on the rise since the WRGP was announced, though this morning, John told me that those rumors aren't rumors anymore. The repair shop he works at, he was running a late shift. Just as he was about to close up shop, someone blew up the alarm system and stole the duel runners that were in the shop. John's boss is blowing some serious gaskets." Said Winston

"Is there anything we can do?" I asked

"Well, I was gonna find a place to stakeout for the next few days to check for whoever's stealing runners. Wanna tag along?" asked Winston

"Sakura's gonna kill me when she finds out what I'm doing. For my sister, she acts like a mom sometimes." I sighed

"She's just worried about you Dawn. I mean, she thought you were dead for five years. In a way, she knows what Karen's going through, about her twin being dead and all I mean." Said Winston

"Don't worry, I know what you mean. Count me in." I said

*End Flashback*

The only part I didn't expect was Carly bringing Jack, having the exact same idea, but at least she had a camera.

"Take a look. Five bucks says that those thugs are the guys who swiped the runners from John's job." Whispered Winston

They were doing everything by the 'get in, steal, and get out' book alright. Carly managed to snag some photos too.

"Coming through!" exclaimed Jack

I resisted the urge to face-palm. Someone's gotta keep him out of trouble.

"Dasher, help us out!" I exclaimed as I activated my duel disk and set his card on one of the monster card slots

Dasher turned into a motorcycle, and I got on just as it gave me a helmet to use.

"Hey, you! Where do you think you're going with those duel runners?! Didn't your mothers teach you to take what isn't yours?!" exclaimed Jack

This coming from the guy who didn't know better himself last year. All I can do is watch and see what happens, not that I didn't want to intervene.

"Bug off you little pest." Said the apparent leader

He had a gun! And it wasn't the old-fashioned ones, it was a laser gun!

"Don't do it! Syd, stop!" exclaimed one of his gang members

Too late. Syd, apparently, fired the gun, but the gang member got in the way. His runner blew up on him, and he hit the asphalt hard. I maneuvered Dashed to get down to the road where the gang member was, but I immediately recognized him from Sakura's memories! He wasn't a gang member! He's a Sector Security Officer!

"Hang in there. Listen, we're going to get you to a hospital. You're gonna make it, okay?" I asked

"Dawn, do you know this guy?" asked Jack

A Sector Security car then pulled up next to us.

"Jack? Dawn?" asked Trudge

"Trudge! He's hurt!" I exclaimed

His eyes widened in shock as he kneeled down next to him.

"Kaz! Hang in there buddy. Medical's on the way!" exclaimed Trudge

"Forget on the way. How about first aid right now?" I asked as I activated Dian Keto the Cure Master to use on Kaz

"Make sure you keep his vitals up Dawn. What are you doing here Jack? What's going on? What happened to my officer?" asked Trudge

"This bloke is an officer?!" exclaimed Jack

As soon as the medical team arrived, Jack, Winston, Carly, and I were in the waiting room. I hope Kaz is going to be okay. The next thing I knew, Sakura, Yusei, and Crow showed up. Sakura looked steamed, but the look on my face was enough for her to calm down, enough for her to know that something serious had happened. We really didn't know Kaz's condition, but the look on Trudge's face was enough to know that Trudge was furious! He promptly went after Jack.

"Do you know what you've done Atlas?! You've landed a good officer in a coma and blown a very important case!" Trudge exclaimed as he grabbed Jack by the collar

"What was Kaz even doing with them? My inside sources told me that you guys had like no leads at all." Said Carly

"That's what we wanted the rumors to be. We wanted Syd to be comfortable so that he would think he was getting away with it. Syd Barlow and his gang of thugs are the little fish and we're trying to catch the big fish. We need to know where the money trail leads, who's controlling the black market, so Kaz went undercover. He spend months pretending to be one of them, getting closer to Syd, gaining his trust, gathering info and putting the pieces together." Said Trudge

"So he was your only inside guy?" asked Crow

"So basically, without him, your case is cold." Said Sakura

"Pretty much. We still don't know where they're taking the runners, how they're getting them…" started Trudge

"Winston, what are you doing?" asked Yusei

"I'm borrowing this Synchro." Said Winston

"But that's Kaz's! You can't take it without permission." I said

"Yeah, but Syd's gang just made it personal. Even though Jack, no offense or anything in advance, was the one who has Kaz in this state, John's boss is blowing some serious gaskets because of Syd's gang, and I'm just the duelist to stop him. Besides, this is a mess I have to clean up." Said Winston

"It's not just your mess. I'm the one who put Kaz in the hospital, so if you're going to find Syd's gang, then I'm coming with you." Said Jack

"Hang on you two." Carly and I said in unison

"Don't do dumb stuff! Jack! Ugh." Sighed Crow

"I'm going after them." I said

"Dawn, are you sure?" asked Sakura

"Of course I'm sure. I want to prove to you that I can take care of myself and handle things the way you and the others usually do. I know what I did in the past was wrong, and I know that I worried you because of my actions, but I want to help Kaz, so please, let me go and help them." I said

"Okay." Said Sakura

"Now I am not taking… what?" I asked dumbfounded

"I said 'okay' Dawn. I trust you. You're my sister after all. Just be careful. I don't want you to end up in the hospital bed next to Kaz." Said Sakura

"Thanks sis." I said

I ran after the others, hoping to find them in time, if not, I'll have to do things my way.

The next day…

I was in the Satellite looking at Duel Runner parts.

"So I've been hearing rumors that there are some thugs selling Runners for cheap." I said

"Depends on what kind." Said the guy

"Oh you know, the usual kind, like the kind that accidentally fall into your hands." I said

"Bummer. Listen, I know how to find someone who may know a thing or two? How much is this info worth?" asked the guy

"Ten percent sound good for ya?" I asked

"Sounds right." Said the guy

He wrote something down, and I was on my way. Just to be safe, I activated the Multiply card and created a copy of myself. As soon as the card had deactivated by itself, I knew something was fishy, so I called the paramedics. I was right, because Jack and Winston were both unconscious! I just hope they'll be okay.

"Are they awake?" asked Yusei

"They're moving." Said Crow

"Jack!" exclaimed Carly

"Winston!" I exclaimed

"You two okay?" asked Sakura

"Where are we?" asked Jack

"I told ya not to go and do anything dumb, and what did you do? You went and you did something dumb, with Winston nonetheless! Do you have any idea who his dad even is?! The last thing we need is a lawsuit from Jesse Anderson! I hate to say I told ya so, but well, ya know." said Crow

"I'm just glad you're okay. I was so worried about you Jack!" exclaimed Carly

"Yeah, me too Winston." I said

"Thanks Dawn." Said Winston

"I remember the face of the hustler that set me up. I can probably get to Syd through him." Said Jack

"What are you talking about? There's no 'getting to Syd.' You are not an officer." Said Crow

"Look Jack, I'm sorry about what I said earlier. I can see that you wanted to do right and all, but you don't know what you're getting yourself into. This Syd Barlow character is a dangerous customer. You're lucky to be sitting up. Most guys who cross Syd end up like Kaz." Said Trudge

"And what about Kaz? Is he… lucky?" asked Winston

"'Course he is. I mean yeah, he uh, he hasn't regained consciousness yet, but he's as tough as they come." Said Trudge

"Knock it off you two. Stop playing cops and robbers. Sector Security is on this. Just leave the professional work to the professionals. Uh, where are you two goin'?" Crow asked as Jack and Winston got up

"Let them go." Said Yusei

"But Yusei!" exclaimed Crow

"Come on Crow, you know how Jack is once he decides to get on a dignity kick, he becomes immune to common sense." Said Yusei

"I better follow them. They may need a psychic duelist." I said

And boy was I right! If it weren't for the Field Barrier I put around them, they would've ended up in the hospital again! Now it's go time! Thank you for that tracker John.

*Flashback*

"I hope you guys know what you're doing. You're lucky my boss is out today because of what happened. If he finds out I just gave you guys a tracker, he'll fire me for sure!" exclaimed John

"Relax John, we're on it. We'll find those runners for you in no time." I said

*End Flashback*

We burst into the warehouse where Syd was hiding.

"Jack Atlas?! And it looks like he has a couple of cheerleaders." Said Syd

"How did you find this place?" asked the guy from earlier

"From you buddy!" I exclaimed

The guy looked confused until he found the tracker.

"Huh? A transmitter? You mean, when you was grabbing at me, you… you…" started the guy

"How could you be so stupid Gus?!" exclaimed Syd

"I'm… I'm… I'm sorry boss!" exclaimed Gus

"Leave these losers to us Syd." Said one of Syd's goons

"Let's get 'em boys!" exclaimed another one of his gang members

"Destiny Hero – Disk Commander! Fire!" I exclaimed as I summoned Disk Commander

Disk Commander got his goons while Winston destroyed his laser gun.

"The game is up Syd. Security's on their way with the location on their GPS. They'll be here any minute now with loads of reinforcements!" exclaimed Winston

"Well I guess that's it then. I give up. Consider this my red hand waving a white flag. However, proposition. How's 'bout you and me have us a duel before our guests arrive." Said Syd

"Are you challenging me?" asked Winston

"That's right, but not an ordinary duel. When you're in Syd's house, you gotta play by Syd's rules. We'll duel on these conveyor belts. Lose some life points and you move closer to the trash compactor. Run out of life points and into the trash compactor you go and well, that ain't gonna feel too good." Said Syd

"You're daft." Said Jack

"What's it gonna be? Look, I ain't gonna bend your arm or nothin' if ya too scared, ya too scared. So? Is ya too scared?" asked Syd

"Don't make me laugh. I accept the challenge!" exclaimed Winston

We were then handcuffed to the floor. Hope this ends well.

"Alright! We're buckled in and ready to ride, and there ain't no getting off until one of us goes over! You better hope you got some moves kid. Let's do this!" exclaimed Syd

Winston LP 4000/ Syd LP 4000

"It's time for me to take out the garbage kid!" exclaimed Syd

"We'll see! I summon Gem-Armadillo in attack mode! (ATK: 1700/ DEF: 500/ LV: 4) And when this guy is summoned, I can add one Gem-Knight from my deck to my hand! And what do ya know, I choose Gem-Knight Emerald! Next, I activate Gem-Knight Fusion! This lets me fuse the Gem-Knight Emerald I just got with Gem-Knight Sardonyx to Fusion Summon Gem-Knight Citrine! (ATK: 2200/ DEF: 1950/ LV: 7) With this face-down, I'm calling it a turn!" exclaimed Winston

Winston LP 4000/ Syd LP 4000

"I'm up then! I summon Assault Wheel in attack mode! (ATK: 2300/ DEF: 0/ LV: 4)" exclaimed Syd

"2300 attack points?!" exclaimed Winston

"That's right, and Assault Wheel's gonna use every last one of 'em, and by attacking that Armadillo, Assault Wheel forces it to cower in defense mode. This situation works out good for me because when Assault Wheel attacks a monster in defense mode, the difference in points is dealt to you directly as damage." Said Syd

"Oh boy!" exclaimed Winston

Winston LP 2200/ Syd LP 4000

"So kid, I gotta joke for ya, what's tall, boring, and minutes away from being tossed out with the trash? You!" exclaimed Syd

"Aw, thank you, thank you, I'm here all week. Try the view." Said Syd

"Hey kid, how does it feel to go from wannabe to chump?" asked Gus

"I wouldn't be joking if I were you. I'm just getting warmed up." Said Winston

"Ha! Whatever you say! Oh, by the way, now that Assault Wheel has attacked a monster, it loses all its attack points until the standby phase of my next turn. So that's it for me, your move kid. Ya know, you might want to actually try and do something kid." Said Syd

Winston LP 2200/ Syd LP 4000

"Thanks for the reminder. I summon Gem-Knight Iolite in attack mode! (ATK: 1300/ DEF: 2000) and here's a heads-up! When Citrine attacks, you can't activate any cards until he's done with ya!" exclaimed Winston

"Wait, what?!" exclaimed Syd

"Sic 'em Citrine! Attack!" exclaimed Winston

Winston LP 2200/ Syd LP 1800

"I shoulda gone for that Citrine." Said Syd

"Should of, would of, could of. Iolite, take out his life points!" exclaimed Winston

"That ain't gonna happen. I activate my Nightmare Wheel trap! Not only does Nightmare Wheel prevent your pathetic Gem-Knight from attackin', it also prevents it from changing battle mode, but that's not the best of it, during each of my standby phases, my Nightmare Wheel dishes out 500 points of damage." Said Syd

"I'll get you somehow! I end my turn with another face-down! You better hope Sector Security arrives before I defeat you!" exclaimed Winston

Winston LP 2200/ Syd LP 1800

"Do you seriously think Sector Security is gonna show up?! If you do, you're even dumber than I thought." Said Syd

"Oh yeah? Explain why then." Said Winston

I then tapped into my mental link with Sakura. She just arrived at the docks, but the factory just pulled a disappearing act.

"So where's this factory?" asked Crow

"According to the coordinates Jack send us; it should be right in front of us." Said Yusei

"Well I don't see a factory." Said Sakura

"According to the pier manifest, there should be a huge tanker docked here." Said Trudge

"You mean like a boat?" asked Crow

"Guess that tells us how they were smuggling the runners." Said Yusei

"Uh, if the boat's not here, where is it?" asked Carly

I then cut the link, realizing where we were! We were on the tanker!

"Winston! We're on a tanker! Security just arrived on the docks, and we're out at sea!" I exclaimed

"Wait, what? You're telling me we're on a boat ride right now, and we're out to sea?!" exclaimed Winston

"Yep! This is the Syd Barlow luxury cruise line. Try to relax and have a good time. Enjoy yourself and don't think too much about how this is uh, a one-way trip. Now let us continue. I draw! It's time to activate Nightmare Wheel's special ability! During each of my standby phases, you take 500 points of damage." Said Syd

Winston LP 1700/ Syd LP 1800

"And now, I summon the Cannon Wheel tuner monster to the field! (ATK: 500/ DEF: 500/ LV: 2) Next, I activate my Call of the Haunted trap card, bringing back Assault Wheel!" exclaimed Syd

"Oh come on! More wheels?!" exclaimed Winston

"Aw, don't get all upset kid, this is how I do things, it's my nature. Unexpected chaos! Explosions! Carve your track, fightin' in the wasteland of cards! Synchro Summon! Roar your engines, Combat Wheel! (ATK: 2500/ DEF: 1200/ LV: 6) Check it! I Synchro Summon Combat Wheel! Guess what happens when Cannon Wheel is part of a successful Synchro Summoning, it dishes out 500 points of direct damage!" exclaimed Syd

Winston LP 1200/ Syd LP 1800

"You're almost at the end of the line, kid, and the last stop is Smashville! This has been a blast kid, it really has, but I'm afraid it's time to say good-bye. Right now, my Combat Wheel is gonna eliminate your Iolite!" exclaimed Syd

"Not happening! I activate the trap, Negate Attack, so Iolite stays for another turn!" exclaimed Winston

"A narrow escape kid, but you're just stalling at this point. I end my turn." Said Syd

Winston LP 1200/ Syd LP 1800

"I summon Dark Resonator in attack mode! (ATK: 1300/ DEF: 300/ LV: 3)" exclaimed Winston

"When did he have that card?" I wondered

"Since I let him borrow it." Said Jack

"Sometimes I don't know what goes on in that head of yours Jack." I said

"In any case, I tune Dark Resonator with my Gem-Knight Iolite in order to Synchro Summon Chaos King Archfiend! (ATK: 2600/ DEF: 2600/ LV: 7)" exclaimed Winston

"You… you managed to obliterate my Nightmare Wheel by getting rid of Gem-Knight Iolite!" exclaimed Syd

"That was the beginning. Now Chaos King Archfiend attacks your Combat Wheel! Oh yeah, before you come up with some snarky comment, here's Chaos King Archfiend's special ability! He can switch the attack and defense points of all monsters until the end phase!" exclaimed Winston

"What?! You mean he's gonna win?!" exclaimed Syd

"You got it pal." Said Winston

Winston LP 1200/ Syd LP 400

"And that's not all; Citrine can still attack you directly. End of the line, Syd." Said Winston

Winston LP 1200/ Syd LP 0

The duel ended as Winston was released from the cuff, but Syd looked too happy for someone who's about to be sent to the dumpster.

"Fooled again kid! Joke's on you! I rigged the stopper on my conveyer belt! I ain't goin' over." Said Syd

Joke's on him. The stopper broke. He was doing pull-ups to avoid the crusher, until Jack got him.

"Come here you baby." Said Jack

He grabbed Syd, and tossed him over to some of his thugs.

"That does it. Time to trash those guys and girl." Said one of Syd's gang members

"Would you say that to Sunrise Dragon?" I asked as I summoned Sunrise Dragon

The moment I did, she roared so loud that it scared the living daylights out of the rest of his gang members. Oh man, talk about wimps. Soon enough, Security had just arrived at the scene.

"Jack. Winston. Dawn." Said Yusei

"Hey, what took you guys so long?" asked Jack

"Did you three take out all these guys by yourselves?" asked Carly

"Well…" I started

"Oh come here you!" exclaimed Sakura

I was scared for a moment, before Sakura had her right arm around my neck, and we both started laughing for no reason.

The next day…

We were at New Domino Hospital's rooftop where Kaz was awake, and having a steady recovery.

"I believe this belongs to you Officer Kaz." Winston said as he held out Chaos King Archfiend

"My card." Said Kaz

"It's because of Chaos King Archfiend that Winston won his duel." I said

"I've gotta say you three, it's a great thing you've done for the city, catching Syd's gang." Said Kaz

"Someone had to after someone messed up." I said

"Say that again Dawn! Man, you really are Sakura's sister! But still, Dawn's right, someone had to since your lot couldn't do it." Said Jack

"Oh, lay off, will ya?" asked Trudge

"But seriously though, thanks to the info we uncovered on that tanker, we were able to make twenty more arrests and seriously cripple the black market." Said Kaz

"Glad we could help." I said

"So what do you three say? After I heal up a little bit, will you three honor me with a turbo duel?" asked Kaz

"I never turn down a duel. You just name the time and the place, and I'll be there." Said Jack

"Me too." I said

"Third time's the charm. I'd love a duel where I'm not at risk of being put in a trash crusher." Said Winston

"You got it." Kaz said as he extended his hand

We promptly took his hand. I have the feeling this is the start of a great friendship, and something even greater.

Done and done! I have to say, I really liked the ending of this episode. It's nice to see Jack deviate away from his usual arrogant, cocky self. Anyway, please review, and until next time, I'm sakuraphoenix, saying I heart you, signing off for now. Kan dao ni!
