Chapter 12: Fear and Loathing in Los Arboles
Hey everyone! It's me, sakuraphoenix, and I'm back with a new chapter! Yeah, I know, I'm on the late side. Sorry about that. The truth is, I've been busy with homework and whatnot. I'd love to stay and chat, but I have more important things to worry about, like the disclaimer.

Matt, Takuya, and Yusei were still out of control! They were attacking pretty much anything that was either moving or tall.
"Takuya, Matt, Yusei, stop!" exclaimed Koji
They should've gone with the sneak attack, because all three of them knocked over KendoGarurumon, Hawkmon, and Emperormon like they were a bunch of old rag dolls! Next thing I see, Takuya's charging full speed, with J.P. in his claws.
"Put me down!" exclaimed J.P.
Well, he put J.P. down alright, and by down, I mean he got thrown into KendoGarurumon, Hawkmon, and Emperormon.
"There has to be a way to stop them!" exclaimed Jack
"But how?" asked Crow
"Isn't there anything we can do?" asked Zoe
"Yes, get out of here before it's too late." Said Bokomon
Matt…
"Alright, if it's a fight you want, fight us!" exclaimed Koji
"Not me!" J.P. exclaimed before Jack, Crow, and Koji jumped into action
"Are they really going to try and fight them? What if they hurt each other?" asked Zoe
"Lupine Laser!" exclaimed Koji
"Ruler's Breath!" exclaimed Jack
"Shooting Winds!" exclaimed Jack
Koji created a kind of laser while Jack created what appeared to be a mix between fire and a laser, kinda like Koji's attack, while Crow's wings seemed to be at least ten feet long before he created a couple of air bullets with them. Unfortunately, the attacks missed, or maybe fortunately, but before Takuya, Yusei, or Matt could attack them, J.P. showed up, and they hightailed it out of there. Something tells me that this isn't over.
"Pyro Barrage!" exclaimed Takuya
"Star Stream Burst!" exclaimed Yusei
I was right! They were burning down the forest!
"If they had to fight trees, they'd be deadly." Said Neemon
"Then count your blessings we're not trees. Let's go." Said Bokomon
If only I could Spirit Evolve to Lunamon, then I could try to talk some sense into Matt.
"Tommy, Sakura, Akiza, this is no time for daydreaming! Come on!" Zoe exclaimed before she began to drag us, along with Leo and Luna
When we got far away enough, we heard this terrible noise. It didn't even sound human.
"What a horrible noise. It doesn't even sound human at all." Said Zoe
"Well, of course not. That's why they call it a Beast Spirit. Isn't it obvious?" asked Bokomon
"But it's like Takuya, Matt, or Yusei aren't even in there. Can't we help them?" asked Zoe
"Not really. They have to learn to control the Beast Spirits on their own, and sooner or later, they will." Said Bokomon
"It's the later part I'm worried about." Said Neemon
We heard some kind of noise, and Takuya, Matt, and Yusei were in front of us! Not good!
"Wish sooner could get here!" exclaimed Neemon
J.P. then attacked all three of them. Well, more like tackled them.
"Back to the burning forest! I can't believe I said that." Said Bokomon
What am I doing, running away like a coward? Matt needs me. Deep down, I know that it's still him. I know that Matt's struggling for control of his Beast Spirit. He needs help! I'm not going to stand by while they give Jack, Crow, Koji, and J.P. a beating.
"Matt! Stop it! Please! I know you don't want to fight them! They're your friends! Please Matt, you gotta stay in control of the Beast Spirit. This isn't who you are! Matt, please, remember who you were. Are. You're my boyfriend Matt. I love you. I know the kind and loving person I fell in love with is still in there. You're a good person Matt, and I know you can remember that." I said
Matt had this sort of glare in his eyes before he closed his eyes and his eyes turned blue. He then turned around and started banging his head on a rock before crying out with an inhuman roar before returning to his normal state, but was crying. Soon afterwards, I saw Yusei back to normal along with Takuya, both in the same state Matt was. After we found a river to rest at, I couldn't help but feel terrible about Matt's, Takuya's, and Yusei's conditions.
"Um, Takuya? Are you okay?" asked Tommy
"I should be asking you that. Thanks Tommy." Said Takuya
"Oh, it was nothing, but you're welcome." Tommy said while blushing
"It wasn't nothing. It was one of the bravest things I've ever seen." Said Takuya
"Well, I owed you one. Now we're even." Said Tommy
"And Sakura? Thanks for helping me out. I know that you don't like talking unless you absolutely have to or you want to, but those words you said to me, they meant a lot. Thanks. I really mean it." Said Matt
"Well, you are my boyfriend. I'd do anything to help you." I said while blushing
Yusei was abnormally silent while he was looking at the dragon mark on his arm. I can't even begin to wonder what he was currently thinking, and frankly, I don't even know. I know Akiza can get through to him better than I can. Sure, I had a crush on him once upon a time, but Akiza's the one that Yusei likes. Not me.
"Ah, the trials of friendship. Take note you four, for when you get your Beast Spirits." Said Bokomon
"Uh, why don't you go first?" asked J.P.
"Oh no, you, I insist." Said Zoe
"Yes, well, of course we still have to get back those spirits that you lost to Grumblemon." Said Bokomon
"Thanks for the reminder." Takuya said bitterly
"How are we going to even find troll-face?" I asked
"To me, it seems harder to avoid him than to find him. I think we should just keep going. I bet we'll run into him sooner or later." Said Matt
"Sounds good to me." I said
"I know you guys want your spirits back, but how can running into Grumblemon sound good? That's the dumbest thing I ever heard." Said J.P.
"You better hope you get your Beast Spirit first now, 'coz I'm coming after you when I get mine." Said Zoe
"Me too!" I exclaimed
"Now I know what Bokomon meant by the trials of friendship." J.P. grumbled under his breath
"The book says the roots make the forest paths treacherous. Oh that's…" started Bokomon
It's treacherous if you keep falling over them Bokomon. Suddenly, we all saw some kind of maze created by the roots, the kind you could walk on. It's like something little kids would do out of a puzzle book. There were eight 'X's' and two 'O's'.
"Hey, check it out. What's up with these roots? Ooh, do those symbols stand for hugs and kisses?" asked J.P.
"Yeah, like you'd know." Zoe said sarcastically
"Hey!" exclaimed J.P.
"It's like a maze." Said Neemon
"Well, not really. All the roots connect." Said Bokomon
"We'll make it a maze! Everyone, get your own vine, and let's go!" exclaimed Neemon
"Cool! I'll take this one!" Zoe exclaimed before she stood on one of the vines
"And this one's mine." Said Neemon
"Ready, set, go!" exclaimed Takuya
I don't know what I was thinking, but after Takuya said 'go', I just went with the flow and got onto a vine and navigated the maze. I was lucky to land on an 'O' with Matt and Yusei sharing the O with me.
"We win." Takuya and Tommy said in unison
And everyone else, no surprise, was on an 'X'.
"Yeah, so what's the big deal?" asked Jack
His question was answered when a mud pit opened up!
"Stop struggling! You're only gonna make things worse!" exclaimed Takuya
"Easy for you to say!" exclaimed J.P.
"Make way! Tarzan's coming through!" I exclaimed as I tossed a vine
"About time!" exclaimed J.P.
We all struggled to get the others out of the pit when troll-face was back!
"Look who here." Said Grumblemon
"It's Grumblemon! No!" exclaimed Matt
"Grumblemon, yes, and you just where I want you. Looks like you five won race. Too bad winners now big losers. It's spirit taking time!" Said Grumblemon
"Actually, I think it's getting stuck in the mud time." Said Neemon
"You not quiet! You learn hard way at really hammer smashing time, got it?! And now take care of you three." Grumblemon said while pointing to Takuya, Matt, and Yusei
"Why can't we just be friends?!" exclaimed Takuya
"Quiet now! No one give me much trouble as you. You know you lose, why not you play nice?" asked Grumblemon
"Oh, so taking our spirits was you playing nice? More like playing bad cop, bad cop. Forget it Grumblemon! You're not getting our spirits! Especially now since me, Yusei, and Takuya have our Beast Spirits!" exclaimed Matt
"Oh why not me afraid of that?" asked Grumblemon
"Well, you should be, because they're very powerful!" exclaimed Yusei
"Only powerful if you can control, and I'm betting you not learn yet, or why you look so afraid?" asked Grumblemon
How did he know?
"See? You tell me all I need know." Grumblemon said before he pulled out one of his hammers
We got out of the way as we helped Tommy climb into the tree.
"Hurry!" exclaimed Takuya
"You too Sakura!" exclaimed Yusei
"But I don't know how to climb a tree!" I exclaimed
"Just fly up there!" exclaimed Matt
"Oh. Why didn't I think of that?" I wondered out loud before I activated Transcendent Wings
"Execute! Slide Evolution!" exclaimed Grumblemon
And the big troll was back.
"Gigasmon." Said Gigasmon
"Execute! Spirit Evolution!" Yusei, Matt, and Takuya exclaimed in unison
"Agunimon!" exclaimed Takuya
"Starmon!" exclaimed Yusei
"Kizunamon!" exclaimed Matt
All three of them got into a battle stance as they were about to face off against Gigasmon.
"Hasn't the forest had enough fire for one day?" asked Bokomon
Yusei and Matt seemed to silently agree.
"Right!" exclaimed Takuya
They tried hand-to-hand combat, but that didn't work much.
"Quagmire Twister!" exclaimed Gigasmon
All three of them were sent flying as Gigasmon proceeded to cut down the forest.
"Agunimon!" exclaimed Tommy
"Starmon! Kizunamon!" I exclaimed
We were then grabbed from behind by Gigasmon.
"Gigasmon, put them down!" exclaimed Matt
"If you want them, you have to take them!" Gigasmon exclaimed before climbing up the tree we were in
"Put us down you giant troll!" I exclaimed while struggling in his grip
Gigasmon then threw me into one of the trees, and I could've sworn I felt something snap before he picked me up, but this time, I couldn't move. I think my spine must've snapped.
"If play hide and seek you really need seek, you know." Said Gigasmon
Yusei, Matt, and Takuya went after them, but didn't see Gigasmon attack them from behind until they felt it.
"Tommy!" exclaimed Takuya
"Sakura!" exclaimed Matt
Gigasmon then proceeded to swing on a vine, with the others following suit.
"Not bad, course not good either." Said Gigasmon
He then hid behind a tree we just swung by. I was about to warn the others when Gigasmon punched them with his arm. That's gonna hurt.
"Agunimon!" exclaimed Tommy
"Starmon! Kizunamon!" I exclaimed
"Yeah you fall behind!" exclaimed Gigasmon
"That was so not funny!" I exclaimed
I then realized that I could still move my arms and the wings on my back. I then used the wings to start to tickle Gigasmon.
"That tickles!" exclaimed Gigasmon
He briefly let go, but Tommy was still in his grip, but at least I was out and I could fly. Still, I hope this works.
"Dian Keto the Cure Master! Please, heal my spine." I said
But as soon as that happened, Gigasmon tied both me and Tommy up like we were a couple of burritos at Chipotle!
"What? Not want to help friends?" Gigasmon asked as he lowered us
"Tommy!" exclaimed Yusei
"Sakura!" exclaimed Matt
"Play time over. Now give me spirit! You hurry, maybe you save them." Said Gigasmon
I then saw Takuya, Yusei, and Matt looking at their D-Tectors. Were they really gonna trust Gigasmon's word?
"No! Don't do it Takuya, Matt, Yusei! Don't trade your spirits for us! We'll be okay! I promise!" I exclaimed before Gigasmon pulled us up again
"No!" exclaimed Yusei
"Hmph. Some friends you be. Won't even give up Beast Spirit to save friends!" exclaimed Gigasmon
"I'm not afraid of you!" Tommy and I exclaimed in unison
"You two should be!" exclaimed Gigasmon
Gigasmon then took off for the trees again. Seriously, this is getting old.
"No! Tommy!" exclaimed Takuya
"Sakura!" Yusei and Matt exclaimed in unison
"That's it! If Tommy and Sakura can show courage in the face of that freak, then so can we!" exclaimed Takuya
"You can say that again!" exclaimed Yusei
"Let's do it!" exclaimed Matt
"Execute… Beast Spirit Evolution!" Takuya, Yusei, and Matt exclaimed in unison
"BurningGreymon!" exclaimed Takuya
"ShiningXingmon!" exclaimed Yusei
"Affinitymon!" exclaimed Matt
"So, let's see if can control." Said Gigasmon
Takuya, Matt, and Yusei then began charging towards Gigasmon.
"Takuya!" exclaimed Tommy
"Matt! Yusei!" I exclaimed
They then hit the tree Gigasmon was standing in before he jumped into another one. Then Takuya used his tail to knock Gigasmon off balance and then Yusei threw a tree branch at us, causing Gigasmon to let us go as we started to fall.
"You not going make it!" exclaimed Gigasmon
Uh, wrong! We were saved just in time by both BurningGreymon and Affinitymon.
"Sakura. You okay?" asked Matt
"Yeah, I am. Thank you. Looks like you're in control of your Beast Spirit now." I said while smiling
"Thanks to you, Sakura." Said Matt
"I'll help the others. You take care of that overgrown troll!" I exclaimed before Matt flew off
With me and Tommy working together as a team, we got the others out, just in time to see Takuya, Yusei, and Matt defeat Gigasmon.
"You did it!" exclaimed J.P.
"Hey." Said Koji
They flew towards Gigasmon, and grabbed his Beast Spirit. Ha! No more trouble from him!
"Gigasmon's spirit." Said Bokomon
"Now for Tommy." Said Takuya
"I got Sakura and Luna's spirits." Said Matt
"Akiza and Leo will be happy to get their spirits back." Said Yusei
"Here you go buddy! Got a little present for ya!" Takuya exclaimed as he threw Tommy's spirit to him
"Sakura! Luna! Heads up!" Matt exclaimed as he tossed our spirits towards us
"Leo! Akiza! Here you go!" Yusei exclaimed as he tossed their spirits to them
"My spirit! Yeah! This is better than birthdays and Christmas combined!" Tommy exclaimed as he held his D-Tector in the air
I smiled as I looked at my D-Tector. I'm glad you're back Lunamon.
"And now to get Zoe's spirit." Said Takuya
A little late! Mini-troll's back!
"Me leave while behind!" Grumblemon exclaimed before burrowing into the earth
"No. He still has my spirit." Said Zoe
Still, at least we've limited Grumblemon's power. He won't be spirit-snatching our spirits for a long time. As night fell, we all stopped to look at the three moons of the Digital World.
"Isn't that pretty?" asked Tommy
"Yeah, I guess." Zoe said while still disappointed
"Come on guys. We've got a long road ahead of us." Said Takuya
