Colt and Mal found themselves waiting in the cell of MACUSA, right next to a cell holding a large Sasquatch. They were rather relieved to not be in the cell with the massive beast, as it was giving off a rather unpleasant smell they wished they had some of Mal's odor transforming potion with them.
"I'm sorry kid,' Mal said grimly his head in his hands. "I can't believe this is happening,' Colt waved it off. "Don't worry about it, I needed some adventure after being at school."
"Yeah but this is bad real bad," Mal sighed.
"We're screwing up the timeline, we might just wipe out our own existence," he crossed over to the bars and rested his head against it.
"I wanted to make a difference and now I'm paying for it. I should not have messed with time," Colt walked over and put his hand on his friend's shoulder.
"It's not over yet, My father says worrying means you suffer twice, so we just need to put our heads together and figure a way out of this joint," Mal's face lit up. "You're right. We can't give up, persevere no matter what."
Suddenly the door of the cell next to them flew open, they looked to see Newt Tina and Jacob being led into a cell. They were escorted by two guards dressed in white coats. Newt looked like he'd been crying, Colt had never seen his father so broken.
"What's going on?" Colt asked. Newt turned to look at up him. "What are you doing here?" He asked looking surprised. Colt looked sheepish. "We got busted in the evidence chamber," Colt gestured to himself and Mal. "Why were you in the evidence chamber?" Tina asked looking suspicious.
Colt and Mal were silent, keeping their secret of time travel was getting increasingly difficult. "We lost a part of our project we were working on," he looked toward Mal for support.
"Right. We are working on a project for our school. A mystery project," he said in a nervous tone.
Tina simply nodded towards them looking apathetic.
"Are you okay?" Colt asked both his parents looked so beaten down. "I'm probably never going to be an auror again, seeing as how they think I'm connected to the murder of that man.
What man?" Colt asked. "Senator Shaw," Tina responded.
"Of the Shaw newspaper?" Mal asked. "Yeah," Tina responded. "Newt you said it was an...?"
"Obscurus," Newt responded grimly.
"Where are your creatures?" Colt asked.
"Taken," Newt said wiping tears away. "They think they were responsible for Shaw's death."
Colt remembered the obscurus was in there. If the authorities found out it would be very bad for everybody.
Colt and Mal were both shocked at this reveal, obscurus were extremely rare and dangerous. In all their studies they had never seen one and not wanted to.
Colt looked at both his parents and felt sick to his stomach, he had never seen them so frightened before so helpless.
He started to understand why his father was worried about his creatures and why he would do anything to help them. Including spending money he had been saving for a simple broomstick.
As guilt consumed him two guards dressed in white suits came to the door and unlocked. Colt felt his stomach turning and writhing, this could not be good.
The guards also unlocked the cell he and Mal were in. wants to see you as well. The guard told him, her voice cold and grim. Colt and Mal looked at each other with absolute terror.
Percival Graves was the head auror of MACUSA in 1926. He had been dead for years, they had both read about him and his reputation for intimidation. They found themselves dreading the meeting very much, they were going to be hammered and pressed for answers.
They had to think fast if they were going to get out of this. They could not be revealed as time travelers but what could they say?
Percival Graves sat across from Colt Mal Newt and Tina, Jacob was still in his cell awaiting someone to obliviate him. Graves glared at the four of them, he questioned Newt first.
He'd never heard that story. His father unable to save a dying girl from an obscurus. Far more important than playing some game.
Graves than revealed the obscurus Newt kept in his case. He had extracted it from a young witch in Sudan, before her death.
He was next. Graves stared him down, measuring him up before speaking.
"You and your friend are most unusual Mister?" Colt found himself struggling to come up with an answer.
"Weasley," he said, using the name of the family who had been good friends of his family for years.
Graves nodded. "And this is?" He gestured to Mal. "Mister Jones," Colt said quickly.
Graves looked curious. His eyes widened and his lips curled, he was trying to see if Colt was lying.
"What is that machine we've got locked up in the evidence chamber?" "The one you were trying to take" he questioned.
Colt did his best to keep from looking nervous, he had to think fast to explain the time machine as he thought about it he remembered the affect the machine had on the weather when it was being used.
"A weather machine," he blurted out. Graves face did not change he still looked suspicious.
He looked at both Colt and Mal then at Newt and Tina. He stood up.
"You fool no one you four. You're all trying to expose magic cause a war between the magical and non magical worlds."
"No no," Colt said.
Graves wouldn't listen. "You are all hereby sentenced to death," terror shot through Colt and Mal's bodies they were going to die and quite possibly damage their timeline beyond repair. Tina sobbed and Newt looked like he was in disbelief.
The quartet were dragged down to the execution chamber, the guards took memories from Tina and placed in the chair over the death potion. As Tina floated over the chair looking innocent and carefree as a child. Memories appeared in the thick black potion white and misty images in a bubble like shape.
As images of her childhood passed by grandparents who died before Colt could meet them playing with their children, they morphed into what looked like an adult Tina walking through some dark room her wand out. The image then showed a teenage boy with a bowl cut and a middle aged woman with a whip standing over him.
They looked like the second salemers that were at the bank earlier. Tina moved the whip out of the woman's hand and knocked her out with a blast from her wand. She then knelt beside the boy and comforted him.
Tina suddenly realized what was happening to her and jumped up. Colt tried to run to her but Mal held him back. "You'll die too," he said. "We need a plan."
Colt tried to think of one desperately when suddenly he remembered the Niffler in his pocket. "Aaron!" He said shaking his pocket trying to get the niffler's attention.
Aaron poked his head out making an annoyed sound.
"Come on you stupid beast. Get rid of these shackles!" Aaron scurried out of the pocket and around Colt's back, he fiddled around
He was tense as he watched her struggling. When suddenly swooping evil flew past them. Newt had freed himself with Pickett the bowtruckle, he told to Tina to jump as the swooping evil continued to fly around. Colt felt his stomach tighten as he watched his parents trying to escape death.
Finally Tina leaped to Newt, she stepped on the swooping evil and then on to the floor into Newt's arms. The swooping evil returned going back into it's cocoon and in his sleeve.
As soon as Colt and Mal were free from their shackles, they took off running down the hallway and evading the guards. Queenie and Jacob ran up to meet them. Get in Queenie held out Newt's case telling them to get in.
"We can't," Colt said. Newt Tina Queenie and Jacob looked confused. "We have to get our machine, we can't leave it here," Mal said.
"All right but we have to hurry," Newt said.
The six of the them ran down to the evidence chamber. Mal tore off the tarp covering the time machine and shrunk down the time machine with a wave of his wand. They climbed into the case carried by Queenie and escaped.
