The Love of a Lycan Ch. 2

Hermione stood in the common room waiting impatiently on Harry and Ron to come down for breakfast. She was eager to see Kari again. Why she didn't really know or understand but for some reason she was drawn to the silver witch. Sighing and deciding to leave the boys to fend for themselves she headed out into the hallway and made her way down to the Great Hall.

Upon entering the hall Hermione was exstatic to see Kari sitting alone at the Gryffindor table. As she moved closer, Hermione noticed that Kari was reading for a very old looking tome. Nervously sitting down in front of Kari, Hermione tried to see what she was reading but wasn't able to determine the contents. At the presence of a new occupant Kari looked up into Hermione's eyes. The smile gracing those lucious lips was nearly blinding to the bookworm.

"Good morning Hermione, sleep well?" Hermione blinked in surprise before returning a shy smile. "Yes quite. You?" Kari nodded still smiling. Hermione blushed as the goddess kept her attention on the brunette. "How are you liking Hogwarts so far," Hermione asked in hopes of covering her staring. Kari nodded slightly before answering, "so far so good. They have good food and the company so far seems to be wonderful." Kari winked at Hermione causing the younger witch to blush harder. Hermione hummed softly. "What are you reading," she asked unable to keep the curiosity at bay any more. Kari let out a soft chuckle, looking back down at the book briefly. "The theory and practice of ancient transfiguration and arithmacy." Hermione sat up straighter after hearing the title, eager to learn more about this book.

"Seriously? That must be fasinating! I have never heard of such a book before! Is it part of your studies? Can I borrow it sometime when you're down?" Hermione rambled off quickly causing Kari to laugh wholeheartedly. Once she realized what she had just done Hermione quickly shut her mouth and blushed in embarrassment. Great, she thought, now she knows I'm a know-it-all. Kari just smiled softly at the little witch before pushing the book towards her. "Yes it is very fascinating, it is a very old and very rare book. No it isn't a part of my school studies, but I enjoy learning about new and old ways magic was down so I am reading it. Yes you are more than welcome to read it if you want. I've already memorized it up I find sometimes re-reading something can show you new things you may have missed the first time around," Kari said in answer to the brunettes questions. Hermione stared at her dumbfounded by the response. This sexy goddess was just like her? A bookworm and a goddess. Merlin help her, she was in heaven right now.

Hermione gently took the tome and stared at it in wonder and amazement. Kari was still smiling at her too. Looking up into those piercing eyes Hermione forgot about the world for a moment, until Kari began speaking again. "So what do you like to do for fun around this old castle?" Blinking the young witch took a moment to remember how to talk, let alone answer properly. "Oh well on weekends we are allowed to go to Hogsmead to unwind and hang out, outside of school. We also have the Black Lake that some enjoy sitting beside when the weather is nice out." Kari nodded silently before smirking. "Yeah and what do you like to do?" At this question Hermione blushed yet again. How can she respond without showing Kari how lame she was? No one likes a bookworm, know-it-all and telling Kari that she preferred to study and read would surely point out how pathetic she was!

Kari noticed the hesitation to answer so she gently leaned forward. "Hey its ok you can tell me, I promise I won't judge you." Nodding slowly Hermione sighed. "I really enjoy reading and studying. My friends hate it when I force them to do the same," she laughed nervously. Kari smiled and sat back up. "Well clearly they don't get it. So what are your favorite subjects so far?" Blinking in surprise Hermione just stared at the silver witch for a few moments. "Really?" Tilting her head in confusion Kari nodded slowly. "Yes really," chuckling Kari continued," what did you expect? Insults or loss of interest?" Blushing yet again, Hermione ducked her head and nodded hesitantly. Kari leaned back and frowned slightly. "Let me guess, people like to call you a know-it-all, or say that you are insufferable due to your knowledge?" Nodding once more, the brunette finally looked up. Sighing she said softly," no one likes a know-it-all. They often avoid me or try to get me to do their work for them. There are a few exceptions of course. My friends Harry and Neville actually only ask for help on what they don't understand or to proof read their essays. There are even a few who will ask me to tutor them, but most of the time they either ignore or insult me." Kari's frown deepened as Hermione spoke. How on earth can those idiots not see what an amazing girl they had among them?

Taking a moment to calm her anger, Kari leaned forward once more. "If they can't see or appreciate that beautiful mind of yours then that's their loss. Don't ever let anyone try to put you down for being smarter than them." Hermione nodded silently amazed at the passion in Kari's voice and fire in her eyes. Still leaning towards the brunette Kari asked once more, " so what are your favorite subjects?" Finally feeling relaxed and happy that she met someone actually interested in her, Hermione gushed about transfiguration, arithmacy, runes and charms. The pure joy at having someone equal if not superior in intelligence discussing the different course and debating their uses, simply overwhelmed the little witch. She hardly even noticed when the boys finally arrived nor how fast the time flew by until the bell signaling the end of breakfast. They all stood up and began heading out of the great hall. Kari walked beside Hermione as they kept up their discussion on the benefits of transfiguration in battle, escorting the Golden trio to their first class.

When it came time for them to finally part Hermione was saddened to see their conversation end. Kari gave a small smile before leaning down to peck the brunette's cheek. "See you at lunch Hermione. Have a good morning." With that the silver witch walked back down the hallway. Hermione stood frozen in place, her cheek tingling where those soft lips at pressed. Entering into the classroom in a daze, the brunette was thankful that her friends had entered before Kari had kissed her. She really didn't want to deal with any questions right now as she basked in the feeling.

For the rest of the day Hermione was on cloud nine. She could hardly pay any attention in her classes, far to eager to see Kari again. In between classes Hermione also caught glimpses of the beautiful blonde from Beauxbatons but was unable to see more or even hear her voice. It was confusing to Hermione that she was equally attracted to Kari and the blonde, but for now she put it out of her mind. When the bell for lunch finally rang, Hermione had to temper herself to wait for Harry and Ron to finish packing up their belongings. She ignored their whining about Professor Snape being a prat to them again, choosing instead to walk faster to the Great Hall. The moment she cleared the large doors she immediately began looking for silver hair. To her disappointment, Hermione didn't see Kari at the Gryffindore table nor any of the others. Walking much more sedately she sat quietly in their usual spot and began putting together a plate of food.

Hermione ignored the curious look from the boys at her odd behavior. Soon enough they turned their attention to Quidditch and the tournament, allowing Hermione to bury herself into the book Kari gave her this morning. Maybe Kari had something important to do or maybe she had lunch at a different time? Hermione sighed as she tried to focus on the book and ignore Ronald's poor table manners. She idly noticed that the other schools had joined them for lunch except for the American school. How odd, she thought. Deciding to focus on reading once more, Hermione was finally able to lose herself in the fascinating tome. Before she knew it, it was time to return to classes. Still sad that she wasn't able to talk to the silver witch, Hermione could only hope that she got to see her at dinner.
