Hey guys! I got a little inspiration from this long winter, so I have been inspired to create a new story. Also I hope you don't think it is too similar to SkyClan, while it may seem like that at first, I'm trying my hardest to make it different! Enjoy :D
Bracken Spots ruffled his sleek brown fur as he got used to the cold snow on the ground. The other clans were getting warmer, but since they lived in the Highstones territory, it was still chilly. Life was hard in this territory. The soil was dark and rocky, leaving for herb collecting to be hard. ShiverClan often had to go to the other clans for help with herbs.
The brown bengal tom licked his paw, the soft snow that was left felt good on his paws. It wasn't too cold, wasn't too hot. The moors and jagged rocks made for a calm territory, but it wasn't easy to find prey. Most mice wanted to scurry in the forest and frogs never dared to come near the sharp stones.
"Snowing Skies, I don't seem to see any birds nearby." Bracken Spots informed. Big birds such as falcons or hawks were common prey for the cats in the Highstones. They often flew over the hills looking for rabbits or cats to hunt, but little did they know they were prey. "Prey is always scarce this time of the year." a white she-cat known as Snowing Skies said coolly, trailing off.
A black tom with oddly big yellow eyes flexed his claws. "We can possibly find a nest of burrowing owls somewhere nearby." Burrowing owls weren't as common as predatory birds, but they were delicious. The white she-cat nodded. "Worth a shot, Bat Eyes." she meowed.
"I wonder why Shivering Rose decided to leave her clan anyways." Bat Eyes muttered. Shivering Rose was the founder of ShiverClan, the past ThunderClan medicine cat apprentice under Cloud Spots before she left and chose to create her own clan. "This territory is so barren."
"And cold." Snowing Skies added. That's true, even in the hottest Greenleaf, there's always a slight chill. Bracken Spots thought.
There was a rustle in a nearby shrub with rotting, blackberries. Snowing Skies looked over with her ice blue eyes as Bracken Spots perked his ears. The white she-cat slowly stepped towards the bush and the patrol heard a small squeak. With a burning determination in her eyes, she leaped into the bush.
Bracken Spots widened his eyes. The shrub's leaves were coming off as the rotten berries flung off like loose droplets off of a tree. Bracken Spots quickly sprinted to the other side of the bush so the mouse couldn't escape. It went silent.
Then, Snowing Skies came out of the bush with a very skinny rat. It had been starving in the Highstones. She dropped it at her paws and sighed. "It's so skinny." Bracken Spots looked down at it and licked his lips. "At least it is food."
We could've lost it too, and then we wouldn't have anything. Bracken Spots thought with a sigh, letting the wind flow through his fur like a fish slicing through water. The prey is scarce, but the territory is beautiful. I'm glad this is my home.
"Keep your head high, Snowing Skies. We could've gone back to camp with nothing." Bat Eyes slightly smiled before padding further into the jagged rocks. Bracken Spots followed close behind. Leaving Snowing Skies to pick up her scrawny rat to follow him.
Bat Eyes froze, leaving Bracken Spots to bump into him from behind. "Bat Eyes! What has gotten-" Bracken Spots followed Bat Eyes gaze up to the top of a giant hill. He gasped as he spotted a few Twolegs shoving sticks tied to a tendril that was touching some sort of pelt. Snowing Skies let out a growl.
"What are Twolegs doing in our territory?" Snowing Skies hissed. The question brought her great anger, but it brought Bracken Spots great confusion. What are the Twolegs doing bashing sticks in the land? the brown tom thought curiously.
"Should we warn Sandstar?" Bat Eyes asked accordingly. "It doesn't seem like they are doing much now, but this could be dangerous towards the clan." The black tom had an unreadable expression, which is odd because he was always open. Bracken Spots shifted his paws uncomfortably.
The Twolegs were chattering like songbirds happily while working on their... whatever it was. "Yeah, I think that would be the best idea.." Bracken Spots meowed with a little bit of doubt. Will we have to chase them off?
Snowing Skies sighed angrily. "Fine, then let's hurry up and stop standing around here like a kits right below a hawk." the white she-cat glared at the Twolegs once, eyes like an icy blue sea of rage, before running off.
"What do you think of this, Bat Eyes?" Bracken Spots asked the tom. Bat Eyes looked at him with eyes like two moons in the night and shrugged. "I just think it is Twolegs being Twolegs. We can never understand what they do or why they do it. They don't think about our feelings in their actions. That's what makes us different, I guess."
The brown bengal tom stared at him back and nodded. "I couldn't agree more, now let's get back to camp, alright?" Bat Eyes nodded and picked up the rat Snowing Skies left behind before padding off in her direction, leaving Bracken Spots by his self.
Wait... what are those? Bracken Spots spotted a tall rock near him. He crept over to it and climbed up it. Pebbles fell down like boulders rolling down peaks. As he placed his paw at the highest point of the rock, he widened his amber eyes.
The Twolegs were holding long sticks, but they had a weird hill-shaped end. Those... they look so sharp.. Why would Twolegs need something so sharp? Bracken Spots's eyes gleamed before he turned around and stepped down the rock. A gust of wind helping carry him down.
Should I keep the fact that they have those to myself? He looked back in their direction. That would be best, I don't want to worry my clanmates. He let out one more sigh before sniffing the air, the rich scent of the Highstones, before heading to his camp.
I hope you liked the prologue to this story :D
