STAR GAZING
Under the moonlight, into the dark night
I dream of you
Cause deep in my heart
I know one day you'll come shining through
And here I'm waiting
Under the starlight, thinking of you
I know that one day you'll come back to me
I believe in your promise
Tifa sat on the edge of the Nibelheim water tower, gazing up at the night sky, singing. She wondered where her hero was now. Was he looking up at the sky too? Was he thinking of her?
It had only been a week since he left for Midgar.
Under the moonlight, into the cold night
I see your tears
I feel your sadness and all your weakness
And all your fears
So here I'm crying
Under the starlight, still loving you.
Tifa's voice rang out into the night. It had been almost a year since her hero had left; almost a year with no word from him. In that year, Tifa had grown to become a gorgeous young woman. She became a tour guide for people visiting Mt. Nibel, guiding people around the dangerous yet beautiful mountains.
Now she was excited. The town has just received word that two First Class SOLDIERS- the legendary Sephiroth and the fairly new Zack Fair- were coming to Mt. Nibel to check on the Mako Reactor.
Tifa got the assignment to guide them through the mountain. She planned on asking about her hero when they arrived; maybe he was going to be with them.
Through all the battles, through all the pains
Through all the good and bad, we'll fight together
I'll never leave you, no matter what
And don't you think, that nobody's beside you
They had saved the planet. Tifa felt the pain and weariness from the last couple of weeks settle into her bones, and needed to sit down. When she did, Cloud- her hero, the man she had been waiting for- was pulled down with her.
She had forgotten that he had grabbed her hand when The Highwind was spinning out of control. Apparently he had not let go of it- not that Tifa minded.
While the rest of the gang was awe-ing at the sight of the lifestream engulfing Midgar in it's healing light, Cloud instead focused on Tifa. Tifa locked eyes with Cloud's.
"Tifa… I'm still not good with words… but…" Cloud's face flushed red.
Tifa squeezed his hand. "Shh. You don't need them, Cloud."
Shifting closer to him, she rested her head on his shoulder and watched as Meteor burned away. Cloud moved his arm to rest around her shoulders as the giant fireball dimmed, it's dust settling onto the city of Midgar. Then, one by one, the stars began to re-appear in the night sky. Tifa and Cloud sat in silence, watching the stars, as everyone around them celebrated their victory.
Tifa felt her eyes drift shut. She could not even fight the exhaustion. Her final memory of the night was the sound of celebrations, the feel of Cloud's kiss on her forehead, and the sight of the stars in the sky.
