Chapter 5

'Oh maker I just can't believe you!' Amelie snaps as she limps through the house. 'I've already said that I'm not telling you anything that happened in my world!' She says simply. She had woken up and found Fenris at the fireplace. He didn't look like he'd slept all night and she had naturally asked him what was wrong. A rather heated argument had ensued.

'You will not tell me anything because you do not know anything,' he replies matter-of-factly. Amelie was trying to make her way down the stairs, step by step. She glared back at him, fire in her eyes. Fenris stood at the top, mentally refusing to let himself go help her down. 'You are not Hawke, the alternate version or any other,' he adds.

'How dare you! You ignorant pig! Just because it doesn't sound probable, doesn't mean it's impossible!' She hisses. 'Just because you don't get your way doesn't mean I'm a liar-'

'You are a mage,' Fenris states harshly, he hated himself for saying it, but it was the truth. She made him feel uneasy and he didn't like it at all. She confused him and all he stood for. Twenty-four hours with the woman was enough. He couldn't take anymore.

Amelie feels her heart clench in pain. 'I always said that I would never judge you because of your past and who you are. But only by the actions you made, but you wouldn't know that. You're not my Fenris,' she says looking at the floor, away from him. 'I mentally gave you the same courtesy, I would hope you would give me the same. It seems I was mistaken,' she said quietly. 'Even when my Fenris killed Hadriana and took his rage out on me, I still forgave him and he apologised. I think I've figured out the alternate difference between you and my Fenris,' she says softly. She looks up at him, not registering the paleness of his skin. He hadn't even told Garrett Hawke about Hadriana and yet here she was, speaking about it. He stared at her as she spoke. 'My Fenris learnt to be kind, I mean, he even learnt to love. I do not think you ever will,' Amelie says, her words cutting deeply into him. She didn't say anymore and simply continued down the stairs. Fenris actually took a step back from the pain that he felt. He didn't care what this woman thought about him, but actually, it turned out he did. He felt a sharp sting in his chest and he leant onto the railing, looking down at her as she made it to the bottom.

'Where... where do you think you are going?' He forced himself to speak as she headed to the door. Her ankle had healed slightly, but the limp was still present.

'Hawke's! At least there's someone there that'll be happy I'm here!' She snaps, slamming the door shut behind her. Amelie wouldn't look back at him as she spoke and the cold air hit her in the face, drying her tears as she paused in the wind. She sniffed heavily and shook her head. Arsehole, she thought. But, she had forgotten what a cold person Fenris could be. A lot had changed in the ten years he had spent with her. This Fenris was still young, so to speak. Still older than her, but in present life experiences, not a lot had happened. She rolled her shoulders, flicked her hair over her shoulder and started to make her way to the Hawke estate. It was still early, but she was hoping that she wouldn't run into Leandra. Her mother was always up early to go to the Chantry, she was hoping that this Leandra would have the same habits. It didn't take her long to get there, despite her limp but she was grabbed just before she could knock on the door.

'What are you doing?' Fenris asked gruffly as he let her go.

'What does it look like?' She replies simply holding her head high and looking him straight in the eye. He didn't back down and the tension from earlier was still present it seemed.

'You cannot just knock on the door-'

'Why not?' She says raising a brow. Fenris opens his mouth to reply but sighs instead. He was worried about waking up the Mabari at this time of the morning. He didn't have the right temperament for loud barking. Hawke's Mabari slept in the kitchen, if they were quiet enough they wouldn't wake the dog. Ignoring her obvious glance, his markings light up and he phases his hand through the door, unlocking it from the other side. Amelie was shocked to say the least but kept quiet. He had his reasons she thought to herself. He opened the door without a sound and stepped inside. She followed, shutting the door behind her, quietly.

'I cannot hear anyone moving. They must simply be asleep,' he deduces as he looks at her.

'Then I'll go wake her up,' Amelie says moving past him. He grabs her arm, his bare fingers brushing against her skin. He jumps at the contact and lets her go quickly.

'You cannot intrude in someone's home,' he states, before realising his mistake. He let her in. Looking back at it, he can't figure out why he did that. Mage manipulation it must be. He rubs his eyes and shakes his head slightly. Meanwhile, while he was having this mental debate Amelie had begun to climb the stairs, making good distance on him.

'Haw- I mean, Amelie!' He says correcting himself as he runs up the stairs. She ignored him, halfway across the landing. He gets to her as she opens the guest room door.

'Kitty!' Amelie says as she looks around the empty room. 'Oh, I thought she was supposed to be here,' she mumbles. She looks around again, Fenris sticks his head around the door.

'She did say she was staying here no?' He asks.

'Yeah, but she was looking at Garrett like-' She pauses. 'Oh fuck no, please tell me she didn't,' she says quietly. Fenris raises a brow and then it clicks.

'Oh Hawke, tell me you did not,' he says simply sharing a look with Amelie. Their argument forgotten, they run into the next bedroom, tearing the bedroom door open. Amelie squeaks and turns around, almost bumping straight into Fenris as he was following her. Her face was bright red. Fenris covered his eyes and Amelie could tell his ears were going pink.

'Catherine!' Amelie shouts. 'Fucks sake woman get dressed!' She said a quaver in her voice. 'Hawke, you too!'

Catherine stirs, the quilt only half covering her. She sits up, chest bare apart from ink smudges across her body. She looks over and sees a bare buttock. Garrett's. She grins and looks at Amelie and Fenris. Then she yawns and pulls the quilt over her. She nods and slaps Hawke's bare backside to wake him. 'Come on sleepy. Alarm call had been sounded,' she murmurs rubbing her eyes. She gets up, dragging the quilt with her as she wanders to the bathroom. Garrett turns over, earning another yelp from Amelie who had turned around when Catherine had spoken. He wakes up and sits up on his elbows, looking around.

'Argh!' He yells as he promptly falls off the bed. 'What the fuck are you doing in my bedroom!? Woman! Where are the sheets? And why the hell didn't you warn me?!' He shouts at Catherine. Her laugh could be heard in the bedroom. He was also covered in ink, hand-prints here and there. Amelie giggles and pushes Fenris lightly on the chest as they back out the room.

'Just get dressed,' she says simply hiding her blush with her hair. Fenris walks out the room and she gently closes the door behind her.

'I did not ever think I would see that much of Hawke,' Fenris says in a slight stupor. Amelie giggles and raises a brow.

'Oh no?' She teases, knowing her alternate Fenris' sexual orientation. 'Not slightly jealous in anyway?' She continues. Fenris looks at her with a slightly confused face. One moment she hated him and said things that hurt him deeply, the next moment, she was teasing him. She was a small ball of rage that only occasionally ignited. What annoyed him more, is that he couldn't recall why he was so angry with her, why they even argued in the first place. She was infuriating.

'I- Well, no. I do not find Hawke attractive,' he states. He could see why human women liked Hawke, but he personally didn't. 'Catherine simply reminds me of Isabela and that woman could not annoy me more. I do not like the idea of two of them. So no, I do not find her attractive either.'

'Oh, Sebastian more your type?' She continues to tease as they wander down the stairs. Amelie limps lightly, but doesn't ask for any help or let it hinder her.

'What? No! I am not gay,' he states. She giggles and rests against the banister as they reach the bottom.

'Hey, I'm not judging. Seems that both you and my Fenris have something in common,' she grins as she continues. He frowns at her.

'What is that supposed to mean?' He asks simply. Amelie bursts into laughter and shakes her head. 'You cannot just say something like that, when earlier you stated that I had nothing in common with this other man,' he adds.

'Well, that simply means that you believe he exists, which means that you believe who I am,' Amelie says reasonably. He opens his mouth to argue with her and then closes it again. He can't deny that. She had got him.

'I do not truly believe, but I am more inclined to...listen,' he finishes lamely. It's enough to make Amelie smile, which in turn makes his own lips twitch. To his annoyance. She didn't see that expression though, she was busy looking around the house in curious interest. She kept looking up towards Leandra's bedroom, she was clearly nervous about being here now that the drama had calmed down. He watched her as she moved, her slim figure with a tiny waist. She looked far too fragile to be fighting thugs in the street. Her curly hair swung from side to side with her hips as she walked, with the slight limp. He had to simply stare at the eternally lit fire in order to stop himself from just watching her. A few minutes later he clicks. 'So...you are saying that my... alternate self, he was more inclined to men?' He asks as politely as he could.

She laughs lightly and nods. 'Aye that's exactly what I'm saying. He showed no interest in any woman, not that Isabela didn't try,' she says smiling.

'You said that we had that in common, I assure you. I do not feel that way towards men,' he says simply to clear the assumption. She giggles again and looks at him with a full smile, it made his heart skip. His face went blank and he forced himself to look at the flames.

'I know you aren't gay. I saw the way you went bright pink when you saw Catherine half naked,' she says grinning watching his ears turn pink. His reply was lost as he heard Catherine and Hawke leave the bedroom. Catherine was wearing a pair of leggings and one of Hawke's shirts, quite a smug look on her face. Amelie rolled her eyes as Catherine hugged her tightly. Garrett simply nodded at Amelie and pulled a face at Fenris.

'Sorry friend, didn't realise you had come into the house, let alone my bedroom,' he says chuckling with a grin. 'Sorry Amelie,' he adds remembering that he had rolled over, and he wasn't exactly decent.

'Don't worry Garrett, I've seen what men look like,' Amelie says simply. Catherine grins more and places her hand over Amelie's mouth.

'That's right, she bathed with Fenris and she has a brother after all, not that her experiences go any further than that,' she cackles. Amelie's eyes widen and she tries to fight Catherine off and shut her up. Her face went bright red and Fenris was thankful that she was trying to kill Catherine rather than register his reaction. He didn't like the idea of her bathing with his...alternate self and even being with another man.

'Okay Catherine, leave her be,' Garrett laughs looking at Amelie's furious face and the way her hair was starting to rise as she became charged. Catherine yelped as a rather large electric shock ran through her.

'Ah! Bitch,' she cursed letting her go. Amelie grinned and touched her again, sending another random shock through her, but a lot smaller. Catherine scowls and punches her lightly.

'Okay, ladies, enough. I've had a rather rude awakening. I'm hungry and I need a cuppa,' Garrett says yawning. 'Then we're going to go back to Fenris' and have a chat. Okay?' He says simply, daring someone to disagree. Fenris sighed and simply nodded. Amelie and Catherine were too busy trading blows and shocks to pay attention. 'Looks like we've each gotten a handful huh,' Garrett laughs looking at Fenris. 'Come on friend. Let's get some breakfast.'
