Chapter 20
Garrett and Aveline ran up to the yard, from the looks on people's faces they were too late. Stable-hands were kicking up a fuss and there seemed to be a commotion from the main shed. 'What the hell is going on?' Garrett tried asking a man as he ran past, grabbing his arm to make him pause.
'The guards, we need guards,' he said simply as he shouted over his shoulder pulling himself out of Hawke's grip.
'Well that's your cue,' Garrett stated simply to Aveline who looked just as confused as he did. They both opened the paddock gate and quickly made their way to the wooden building. 'Shit,' Garrett swore as he heard raised voices. 'Shit!' He repeated louder as the door to the to the stable was broken through. Two elves came rolling through the debris brutally punching each other. Amelie climbed out the wreckage after them, panic on her face clear. 'Andraste!' Hawke ran towards the pair as Leto threw Fenris over his shoulder. Aveline pulled Garrett out the way as Fenris got to his feet quickly and tackled Leto around the middle pinning him to the floor. 'Aveline, what the fuck do we do?' He asks as Amelie runs to them both and is forcefully but somehow almost carefully pushed away by one of the men, clearly they were only intent in hurting each other.
'No. No. No. No. No. No!' Amelie said trying to get between them without using her magic. This place was far too close to the Keep and who knew who was in there. 'Stop! Fenris! Leto! Stop this!' She begged, tears ran down her face and she spotted Garrett and Aveline, she darted over and pulled on Aveline's arm. 'Please, you have to stop them! Aveline you must! They'll kill each other!' Amelie sobbed, 'I can't stop them! I can't risk it, please, you've got to stop them!' Garrett placed his hand on her shoulder, reassuring her that everything would be okay. Aveline nodded and brought her shield to her front. Amelie wiped her eyes as she watched her alternate self run to Fenris and the Guard Captain ran to Leto, her despair was slowly turning to anger.
She wipes her eyes, this isn't fair. I didn't ask for this, I don't want this. I won't watch them fight till one of them dies, she thought with anger. She could feel her sadness and frustration at the situation shift inside, the waterfall began to boil. Amelie looked at her hands, she can't use her mana, her spells to stop this. They're too close to the Keep and who knows what will happen if Meredith suspects Garrett on harbouring another mage in his midst; That's the last thing I want to happen, he's been so kind to me and Catherine cares for him, deeply I think, Amelie sighed. Looking back at the commotion she could see that they'd been separated for the time being. She clenched her fist as she tried to suppress her static that she could feel charging. The clouds above her began to rumble and darken reacting to her suppressed mana, the storm that had been threatening to gather roared into life. Rain streamed almost instantly, blurring everyone's vision. Amelie walked calmly between the four who were shouting at each other amidst the whipping winds. She could hear the horses begin to panic and kick out at the walls and gates of their stalls. 'Amelie!' Shouted Garrett, 'you need to go home! You can't be out in a storm!' He warned. He remembered what happened last time she was caught in bad weather. With a grunt he pushed Fenris back who saw his moment and had attempted to break past towards the other elf. Her curls became limp and dark with water as an uncharacteristic silence flowed over them, only the cascade of rain hitting the sodden turf to be heard.
'Who do you think created this storm?' Amelie hissed simply. Her comment made them all pause for a moment, she scowled at both the men that had been fighting. She brushed her hair out of her eyes and clenched her fists so hard that her nails bit into her palms. 'Home? Where would I go home? To a man who treats me like property and acts like a spoilt child when he thinks someone else has ''stolen'' me,' she said pointedly towards Fenris. 'Or, the man that thinks that I am only available when it suits him and only feels regret of his actions when I'm considered dead?' She spat at Leto. She was being cruel, but she was fed up of being treated like this. Garrett's facial expression said it all as it mirrored what she saw on Aveline's own features. Leto looked shocked and hurt and as she glanced over at Fenris she could tell her words cut deep. 'How dare you think that you have the right to make me choose between you. Between anyone!' She directed at them both. 'Are you happy now? Now that you've beaten the shit out of each other? Do you feel like men? You both disgust me,' she said, feeling her tears well up. 'Garrett. I am going to the Hanged Man for a few days,' she stated. Without another look at either of the men she cared about she began to walk through the pouring rain, which was only getting heavier, towards Down town.

As soon as she was out of sight she began to run, sobbing through her breathing, trying to convince herself that the burning in her throat was due to the pace she was running, not the heartache that pounded in her chest. Slamming the door to the Hanged man open she pushed her way through to Varric's private rooms where she saw Catherine and Varric playing a round of cards. 'Andraste's knickers, what's wrong?' Catherine asked as she saw her best friend, soaked through, eyes puffy and hyperventilating through deep breathing. She got to her feet and within moments had Amelie crash into her, hugging her tightly.
'I don't want to be here any-more,' Amelie wailed, gripping her friend tightly. 'They can all go to hell!' Catherine's eyes widened and she nodded at Varric who looked like he had just wandered into a dragon's den, he slipped out the room, grateful for the chance to run away. He was pretty sure he would get all the details from the others anyway.
She embraced Amelie until she had calmed and then began to lead her to one of the empty rooms of the Inn. 'Come on, girl time,' Catherine smiled as she shut the door behind them. Sitting on the bed Amelie sobbed and sniffed through the story of what happened. Cat forced herself to stay silent throughout the entire rendition, only interrupting to get up and find some dry clothing and a towel.
'An- an -an then I said... I said that I was totally disgusted with them both and then I left. I- I- I- I'm so fucking angry!' Amelie swore as she towel dried her hair, she threw the damp towel across the room as she hiccuped in response. Catherine smiled despite the situation and passed her a glass of wine from the bottle that Varric had given her while she looked for clothing. 'I can't believe them! I mean, how fucking stupid can you be?' She took a large gulp between breaths, 'what did they think I was going to do? Just stop seeing the other? I mean-' She growled in annoyance and knocked back the rest of the glass. Catherine rolled her eyes and filled up her empty one. 'You're being quiet,' Amelie accused. 'Thought you'd have a lot more to say.'
'Oh I do, but I remember what happened last time I kept interrupting you,' she smiled, making Amelie snort a little with amusement. Catherine took a swig out the bottle. 'Look, Ami, you know that I love you to pieces,' she said watching her friend as she sipped her wine. 'You must have seen this coming in some form? Fenris hasn't had a proper relationship in his life and then you come in like a- a- a- storm and just completely change his emotions, like the full one-eighty. Give him something that he's never had before and then suddenly to him, it feels like he's gonna lose you because somebody who's pretty much the better version of himself comes swanning along. And then there's Leto, who sounds like he wants so badly to keep you in his life he's willing to give you anything you want. You can't change who you're attracted to, but you know he'd love you to the end, just not in that way, but there's this version of him who does care and see you in that way, and so to Leto, he's losing everything as well,' the Smith says as she plays absent mindedly with one of Amelie's curls. 'Unfortunately it just all built up and hit at once,' she said sympathetically.
Amelie sighed and leaned on her hand, 'I never thought I would have to go through this,' she mumbled. 'I mean what do I do?' She asks as she leans onto Catherine's shoulder, who in response wrapped her arm around her friend's waist. The door slammed open making them both jolt and Amelie swear as she slopped wine down her front. 'Fuck!' The mage snapped as she looked up at the intruder. 'Oh fuck me,' she states simply her mouth hanging open a little.
'So you're the mage who's been trying to shack up with Fenris! Don't give up, I bet he'd bang you like a window shutter in a hurricane,' Isabela snorts as she leans against the frame, it was quite a way to introduce yourself to those you hadn't met before. 'Honestly, I go to sea for a few months and get back to a shit storm,' she smiles. 'So, I've been told quite a tale in the last half hour that I've been in port. Now, don't get me wrong but I'm here for the nasty details,' the pirate says smugly as she kicks the door shut and sits on the chair.
'She hasn't changed huh,' said Catherine. Amelie smiles and shakes her head, her cheeks red from Isabela's crude comment. 'Well have you heard about the fact that there's two of them? One from this world and then ours popped over as well, just to stir the frigging pot. Then they both start having a fucking punch up after Leto; that's our one, catches Ami and Fenris doing the tongue tango in the stables,' Catherine grins. Isabela's eyes widen in glee and Amelie groans as she grabs the bottle of wine from Cat and drains it. 'And get this, Leto is gay, but he wants to have children with Amelie and-'
Amelie moans louder. 'Okay, okay, I don't need to hear it all again,' she whines. 'Isabela, I know I'm not the Hawke you're used to and try not to hold anything against me because I'm a mage. I'm just trying to get on with my life as much as it's been turned upside down and those two pillocks aren't helping!' She sighs.
Isabela smiled and tilted her head. 'Nah, it's fine. I've got no problem with you, and this drama is delicious. Why don't you just shag them both?' She suggests as she sips from her own bottle. Amelie squeaks and goes bright red making Isabela laugh. 'Or, you could do them both at the same time. Two men, one's gay, you'd have a right good time,' she smirks.
'Oh Andraste,' Amelie gasps as her cheeks go dark with embarrassment.
'Well that's a mental image,' Catherine agrees, her cheeks flushing slightly. 'I mean, I'm not attracted to Fenris or Leto, but can't deny that they're not good looking,' she admits. 'Problem with that Izzy, is that this one is ahh... an unplucked flower as it were,' she said softly making Amelie freeze and then pummels Catherine for the revelation.
Amelie punched Catherine hard on the arm for the final time trying to ignore Isabela's cackle. 'Not like there's a thousand other fucking reasons that that situation wouldn't happen. That's the lowest reason on the list,' she snarled. 'It's not like I've not had opportunities, I just haven't felt the need to4 sleep with someone because I can,' she snaps. Catherine snickers and sticks out her tongue in retaliation.
Isabela leans on the back of the chair. 'Oh, sweetness that has got to change. No wonder you're so stressed,' she smiles. 'I can take you to the Blooming Rose, no charge,' Isabela laughs. 'You'd get to make up for lost time. If it's strictly elves you like there's quite a nice selection.'
Amelie snorts into her empty bottle. 'You make it sound like they're a chocolate box selection,' she giggled.
'Well some have nuts and plenty of them have cream,' Isabela drawled earning a spray of wine from Catherine and a naughty hiccup from Amelie. 'Ask nicely and they might even smear chocolate on you-'
'Woah that's enough of that analogy!' Amelie giggles waving her hands in front of Isabela. 'Thanks, I needed to laugh,' she adds as she smiles softly at the pirate who gives her a raunchy wink in return. 'For now though, I don't know what to do,' she sighs as she takes the bottle offered to her.
'Well I'm not versed in all that... love... stuff,' Isabela winces and gags at the word, 'but I think you need some time to yourself, no? Stay here with me for a few nights and then-'
'Oh Ami!' Catherine cut in in excitement. 'Garrett said he wanted us to move into a house together,' she says bouncing on the bed. 'If we find one soon, we can just move in and then you won't have to worry about bunking with either of those meatheads,' she smiles. Isabela nods in approval.
'I agree, and then I can crash when I need to,' she adds. 'For tonight though, let's get drunk!'
So, introduced Isabela, finally.
Well, in the next chapter there's gonna be lots of feeeelss.
