Chapter 2 - Graduation Day
Friday May 15, 2015
Location: Midtown
Time: 7:00 AM EST
Spiderman was perched on top of a building across from the new F.E.A.S.T building in Midtown watching the city while on patrol. He had been out since 5 am and had stopped 3 muggings, 2 armed robberies and 1 run away car full of thugs.
'Can't believe it was finally finished last week and Mister Li the owner of the brand had offered Aunt May a job as the manager of this building. Things were really looking up lately'
*Ding* 'New Alert there is an Armored Truck Robbery in progress 2 blocks from your current location would you like to pursue?' Jocosta called out
"You know I do!" Peter looked at the HUD in his lenses and pinpointed the the best place to intervene
'I must remind you that your graduation starts in 45 mins'
"Thanks for the reminder Jocasta this won't take long"
Spiderman runs along the side of the building and jumps off swinging through the city and catches up to the armored car. Landing on the side of the truck in the middle of stopping the armed car robbery the Human Torch arrives before he can make a quip.
"How's it going web-head...don't you have somewhere important to be?" Johnny asked flying beside his friend
The thief sticks his gun out trying to shoot at the heroes but the gun is yanked away by Spiderman before he could get a shot off "I've got plenty of time hot head" Peter responded
"Nope not this time webs I've got orders from boss lady to make sure you don't miss your graduation so get ready to play catch!" Johnny heats up the left tire of the truck causing it to flip
Spider-Man jumps lands in front of it and catches the truck struggling slightly before putting it down just as Torch landed next to him "Wait which boss lady gave you orders?" He says as he fires a Trip Mine to the wall across from the door of the armored car
"Boss Lady M she had a feeling you'd be out being heroic so she asked me to keep an eye out" Johnny answered as the thief got out of the truck dazed due to the crash but as he brought his 2nd gun up to fire the webzip activated and ensnared him against the wall "There see bad guy stopped, day saved now get outta here before you get us both in trouble!"
Peter sighs "Fine thanks hothead see ya tonight don't be late!" he raises his arm up to spin a webline and swing away
20 Minutes Later
Location: Midtown High
Time: 7:20 AM
Making it to school on time using the Detention Tubes Peter changes and meets up with Ava and his friends getting ready to graduate. The normal festivities get underway until it's time for the speech from the Valedictorian which made him smile as he watched his girlfriend get up and walk towards the stage
Ava looked out at her classmates and smiled when she saw her friend and boyfriend "We did it...look I know that we all think we're immortal, we're supposed to feel that way, we're graduating. The future is and should be bright, but, like our brief four years in high school, what makes life valuable is that it doesn't last forever, what makes it precious is that it ends. I know that all too well. And I say it today of all days to remind us that time is luck. So don't waste it living somebody else's life, make yours count for something. Fight for what matters to you, no matter what. Because even if you fall short or even if we fail... what better way is there to live?"
They all clapped and cheered and soon the festivities continued as May Parker, the Cage's, the Alexander's and the Ayala's watch as the team and their friends received their diplomas from Principal Coulson and graduated cheering.
Later That Afternoon
Location: Parker Residence
Time: 1:00 pm
Everyone had gathered at the Parker House for the Graduation Party in the backyard and since these were parents and family of superheroes they all spoke freely around each other. May held her cup "I'd like to say just how so very proud we are of you all! You have shown all of us that you are capable of handling both your normal and heroic lives very well and though there are those parents who aren't with us today know that they are just as proud of you as we are!" she says laying a gentle hand on Danny's shoulder smiling his way as she glances at a picture of her Ben in the closest window
"Thank you Mrs. Parker" Danny smiled giving her a small hug in some way he was grateful to have such a loving mother figure in his life
Luke smiled "Thanks Mrs. P you the best!"
Peter smiled as he said on the bench with Ava at his side "Thanks Aunt May"
"Thanks Mrs. Parker" Ava added
"Oh Ava dear just call me May you're family, I mean you two are practically married already" May said with a giggle
"AUNT MAY!" Peter yelled
Everyone laughed as Maria Ayala added "She's right you know we're all just waiting for the official announcement." She sat next to her eldest child Awilda watching her granddaughter Angela Del Toro play tag with her young son Fillipo in the yard
"MADRE!" Ava yelled
At this point both Peter and Ava sported huge blushes on their faces as every kept laughing. The laughing settled down as Sam walked in with MJ having spent some time at her house before coming to this party. Mj's mother Madeline and Aunt Anna Watson still had no idea she worked so closely with the Ultimate's all they knew is that she was the very well paid public relations & social media manager for the young superhero team.
"Welcome back Sammy" Eva Alexander called out sitting next to her daughter Kaelynn who was texting
"Thanks mom Ms. Watson sends her best" Sam replied
"It's been really good to see you again Mrs. Alexander" MJ added
The party continued for another 3 hours with Walter Cage on the grill. They all kept conversing about future plans. Danny's and Sam's plans were well known, surprisingly enough the 5 of the remaining Ultimates planned to attend 2 years at Empire State University as it would allow them to continue to focus on their hero work. Soon Amanda Cage checked her watch.
"Luke, don't you guys have another party to prepare for?" she asked
Luke looked up from his phone "Oh yea Harry has been there prepping for this huge going away party at his rebuilt Towers"
"Oh yeah totally lost track of time we've still gotta go help Harry finish let's go team" Peter called out as he and Ava got up
"Geez even on our off day you're handing out orders" Sam mocked as he, MJ, Luke and Danny all cleaned up what they needed and headed towards the front of the house
"Be careful and have fun all of you" May called out
"Will do love you Aunt May" Peter responded as soon all his friends minus Luke piled into his Range Rover and took off with Luke right behind them on his power bike in camo mode
4 hours Later
Location: Osborn Towers formerly Ultimate Towers
Time: 8:00 pm
"Whooooo now this is a Party" Sam yelled
This was the going away party for Sam and Danny. The team all gathered to wish safe travels to their friends Peter, Ava, Luke, Harry, MJ, Flash, Kate and Laura were all in attendance. Other young heroes like Johnny Storm, Kitty Pryde and Bobby Drake come out to celebrate as well. Later in the night some of the Avengers dropped by to wish them farewell and after they all settled down they all made a toast
Captain America stood up "Congratulations on this achievement graduating High school and maintaining your grades while doubling as heroes is no small feat we are all very proud of you guys"
"Aw shucks Cap" Peter responded
"Aye and to those leaving to pursue a new grand adventure may the All Fathers watch over you during your journey" Thor added
"Awe come on Thor we'll be back before you know it" Sam responded as he stood next to MJ
"And to you new recruits down time is almost over class will be back in session very soon" Tony finished
"I'm ready Mr. Stark" Flash responded eagerly while Kate and Laura who stood next to him sighing
They laughed and continued to party well into the night. Soon Tony pulled Peter aside for a quick chat.
Tony leaned against the wall "Well kid I gotta say I'm proud of you! You've led this team very well and with your time at school done, that officially ends your internship at Stark Industries, but your time there doesn't have to be over."
"Thanks Tony that means alot...wait really?"
"Yes really how would you like a position in our new Advance Design Company"
"Really that would be sweet! Which position will that be exactly?"
"Head of the whole Company kid, Im thinking of calling it Parker Industries what do you think?" Peter was shocked silent as Stark continued "You'd come up with the ideas and you'll have a whole team to create whatever you can imagine for whatever purpose like perhaps a better way for heroes to suit up in the field?"
Peter was still shocked "Tony I...I don't know what to say..."
"Kid from the moment I met you I knew you'd do great things with your life. What kind of mentor would I be if I didnt help you achieve those things…" Tony smiled "...so what you should say is yes!"
"I'd love to Tony thank you" he said latching on to Stark in an almost bone crushing hug
"Don't mention it Pete now get back to the party we'll talk more about it later"
Later in the night after everyone cleaned up they all returned to Avengers Mansion to get some shut eye though the couples had other things in mind. Ava laid naked in her boyfriend's arms chatting about what Tony offered after another one of their 'sessions' "Wow slinger that's an amazing opportunity, I'm so happy for you"
"Thanks Ava, you know it's a great honor but I don't know the first thing about running a company I'll need somebody with a strong mind and good heart to help me run it…"
Ava sat up looking down at him "Peter are you asking…"
"Yeah do you think Danny would help me out?" Peter smiled as she slapped his chest "Seriously I need a smart, beautiful and talented business partner are you in?
"Yes I am, I think the future...our future is gonna be a bright one" she smiled leaning down to kiss him as they settled in for the night
Saturday May 16th, 2015
Location: Avengers Mansion
Time: 8:00 am EST
The original SHIELD trainee team all stood atop the New York Library in Midtown. They all decided to have one last patrol together as a team before Danny and Sam leave. They took to Spidey's normal route stopping several muggings and fighting a warehouse full of members of a new gang called The Demons. Now they stood atop the Library talking about the last couple years.
"Well Webhead it's been a good run" Nova stated floating next to his friend
"Agreed my friends I have learned so much and will do my best to use this knowledge to lead the people of Kun Lun"
"We really wish you both the best of luck guys" Tiger spoke up standing next to Spider-man
"Same to you guys, I wish I could stay and spend more time with Mj but I need to spend some time in space and rebuild the Nova Corp and now I can use my awesome hero training to train them"
"Oh boy I really hope the Xandarians have someone else better qualified to train them" Luke joked
Peter began to laugh at Nova's face until Jocasta chimed in "Mr. Parker the super villain team the Elite is attempting to rob an experimental hyperjet at the airfield should I notify Iron Patriot?"
"Nah he's having lunch with Liz, we're on it Jocasta send the quinjet…" he turned to his team "...alright team one last mission Nova fly ahead and stall"
"On it Web's" Sam said as he flew off at high speeds
5 minutes later
The rest of the team arrived and jumped into the fray. Nova was keeping the Elite at bay. Dark Matter sent a blast towards Nova and the two clashed. The clash broke and both joined their respective teams.
"It has been a while Spider" Arachnikid
"Indeed it has, latest info says that you and your team broke away from the Maggia good for you"
"Yes we've become part of something bigger and you have no idea the storm that's coming"
Peter was reminded that's what Taskmaster said before he died "Look I don't care what schemes any of you have planned we'll always be here to stop you, Ultimates Unite!"
The two teams attacked each other and though the Elite held the upper hand back in their first encounter, the Ultimates experience and training with the Avengers proved to be too much for the villains.
Dark Matter's powers are similar to Nova's but he has a dark force which keeps Nova in place from using his powers. This is how he overcame Nova last time but now with his training Sam used his powers in a flash to create multiple hard-light holographic projections of himself.
"What! How the hell did you pull this off?" Dark Matter yelled out as he started blasting the many copies hoping to strike to real one
A chorus of Nova's responded "Because I finally stopped holding back and gained access to the full power of the Nova Force and guess what…"
The real Nova flew at high speeds under Dark Matter giving him a swift double uppercut knocking him out "...I'm only just scratching the surface of what I can do"
Overcharge's powers are similar to Power Man's but he has a power to absorb every bit of power that Power Man throws at him.
"You know I can take anything you throw at me Loser Man so what's it gonna be" Overcharge stated as he charged at Powerman who simply smiled and insteading of attacking he defending using his momentum to flip and slam the oaf down and pin him down
"How about I just throw you instead" Luke comment using his weight to hold him down
Skull Punch pushed his attack against Iron Fist but wasn't able to land a hit with his dark chi, because Danny was dodged every single strike thrown. His powers are similar to Iron Fist's but his evil chi can disrupt Iron Fist's ability to focus. Knowing this Danny would not allow him to hit him, as he dodged he was focusing building up his chi. He flipped away from Skull Punch and landed igniting his dual Iron Fist.
"It doesn't matter how many glowing fist you have now one I hit you they will be gone"
Danny took a stance drawing his right arm back close to his belt and raising his left fist in front of his face. The chi from his left fist shrunk as the chi in his right fist grew larger "One can not hit what he can not reach"
Suddenly Danny shot his arm forward releasing a concussive blast of chi toward Skull Punch who tried to block it only to be knocked back into a wall unconscious.
"So kitty cat I heard that you and the Spider we're a thing now, I wonder how much it would hurt you for me to kill him" Black Rabbit taunted White Tiger as she dodged the hero's attacks. Her powers are similar to White Tiger's but she has a power to go so fast that White Tiger's claws can't connect with her.
Ava growled then smirked beneath her mask staring right into the villain's eyes as her own started to glow a bright green. This caught Black Rabbit off guard as she could now see Tiger's claws were glowing green. She decided to end this quickly and rushed towards Ava with the intent to punch her so hard, so fast it would break her neck. In an instant White Tiger caught Rabbit's fist shocking her.
"How…?"
Swinging over them from his battle with Arachnikid Spider-man yelled out "You pressed the Spidey button..."
"What?" Black Rabbit responded until she gasped looking down having been gut checked
"...you shouldn't have done that!" Ava finished pulling backward and spin back kicking Black Rabbit away with a chi enhanced kick
Both Spiderman and Arachnikid landed on the side of the building looking at the rest of the Ultimates arresting the defeated Elite members. His powers are similar to Spider-Man's but he has a power to mess with Spider-Man's spider-sense he knew he had it in the bag.
"Well would you look at that Spider-MAN's team 4, ArachniKID's team 0"
"Your team seems to have improved but you're still the same old pathetic jokester, I always thought that name was degratting call me the Superior Spider because I am far superior to you in every way and…"
Arachnikid was silenced as Spider-man struck him across the jaw knocking him out "Never thought I'd be the one to say this...but you talk too much" Defeated, the villain team was picked up by SHIELD and taken away to the Raft.
Later
Location: Avengers Mansion
Time: 14:00 pm EST
The Ultimates returned to Avengers Mansion waiting on the rooftop by the pool
"That was so satisfying as our last mission" Sam yelled out standing next to his bags
"Indeed my friend but alas it is time to depart" Danny said this as the Guardian's ship landed on the roof of Avengers Mansion
The Guardians greet the Ultimates having been kept up to date by Sam. He hugged his friends and said his goodbyes, as he handed Peter a small device. He then turned to MJ lifting her face up by her chin.
"I'll miss you Red" Sam smiled
She embraced him "You better check in from time to time or I'll come find you bucket head" the two shared one last passionate kiss before he walked to the ramp of the Millano
"Don't forget I'm just a call away" Sam smiled
"Go get em Nova" Peter waved as the remaining Ultimates watched their friend leave as the ship lifted off
They headed inside going to the parlor in the front of the mansion where Danny's ride awaited him.
"Well then I guess I'll head out to, my friends it's been a true honor to fight beside you"
"We'll miss you Danny thanks for training me to control my chi" Ava said hugging her friend who turned around to hug MJ as well
He turned to Spider-man extending his hand "Peter you've truly come into your own as a leader and I have learned so much from you I will use it well"
"Thank you Danny be safe my friend and let me know when you want me to come and train again it will be like old times" Peter responded shaking his friend hand
Danny smiled as he turned to his best friend Luke who held his fist out "Don't stay away too long bro"
Danny responded by lighting his fist in his chi and giving the most epic fist bump known to man "Of course not by the way everyone no rush but you all might want to check your bank accounts"
"Wait what…?" Spider-man questioned as Danny left making his way to the airport in his limo.
They checked their accounts and were all shocked to learn they all had 1 million dollars in them. Spider-man passed out as a result. Later the remaining Ultimates went back to training the new recruits which now included Cloak and Dagger, until Luke got an alert and soon left to go to the hospital.
Location: SHIELD Medical Facility
Time: 19:00 pm EST
Luke soon made it to the base and sat next to Jessica he soon saw her eyes flutter open
"Jessica? Mom get in here quick it worked!" he said opening the stasis tube that had been sustaining her
Jessica stirred awake looking around she noticed a figure standing over her as he came into focus she smiled "Lu...Luke...where am I" she asked horsley
Luke fixed her some water giving her a straw to sip from "It's ok you're safe you're in a SHIELD medical facility, you were in a terrible crash...you've been in a coma"
The crash replayed in her mind as tears began to well in her eyes "Where's...where's my family?"
He gently squeezed her hand as he heard his mom enter the room "Jess...i'm so sorry you were the only one to survive"
"How...why" she sobbed
"That's why you're here in a SHIELD base because the liquid that covered you somehow altered your DNA, which is why you were moved here. My parents have been taking care of you"
"Jessica sweetie how do you feel?" Amanda Cage asked the young girl
"Fine I guess…" she said sitting up
Amanda smiled "Tell me if you can you feel this" she said slowly jabbing a scalpel into her shoulder from behind her
"No, not at all, why what are you doing?" she asked
"I just jammed a scalpel into your shoulder and you didn't feel it. I'd say our serum worked wonders again."
"Serum?" Jessica asked confused
"We had to use a serum to counteract the chemicals in your system in order to keep you alive and hopefully bring you out of the coma. It seems like you're like my son now" Amanda stated walking to the other side of the room to check her scans.
She was in shock "Luke what does she mean?" Luke stood up and found a surgical saw lifted up his shirt to show his abs and placed the saw against his stomach "Wait No!?"
She screams but was then silent as the saw did nothing to his skin. He put the saw down and sat down next to her again. "Listen, Jessica there's a lot I need to tell you but for now just rest i'll be right here when you're discharged"
"Okay and Luke…" she said softly
He smiled holding her hand "Yes?"
She squeezed his hand tight. He noticed she had a firm strong grip and indication of her strength increase "I love you so much I'm sorry I didn't get to tell you before all of this."
Luke blushed and smiled leaning down to kiss her on the forehead "I love you too!"
Now that the stage is set just a warning for next chapter there will be a timeskip but the meat of the story begins next chapter
