The Coma

Author's Note: Hey folks, back with another chapter. Looking to do them on a regular schedule but have a quick question. Do you prefer less but longer or more but shorter chapters. Leave a review and let me know. :)

Thanks in advance. :)

"Shit!" Cyborg exclaimed as he ducked under another one of Cinderblock's flailing limbs. "This dude won't give up!"

"Tell me about it." Robin gritted as he launched himself at the concrete monster's face. He kicked and smacked the monstrosity to no avail. After futile efforts of hand to hand combat, Robin settled on launching explosive boomerangs at the beast. Making much more progress, Robin allowed the other to take over as he caught his breath. As soon as Robin ceased his attacks, Starfire began hers. Launching volley after volley of powerful Starbolts. Green energy colliding with beige concrete. Her attacks, however, met the same fate as Robin's kicks and punches. Not a scratch. Unsure of what to do, Starfire attempted to life the gargantuan into the air and throw it at the ground. Despite her hardest attempts, however, she couldn't lift the monster.

"Star, try it again, I'll back you up." Raven called across the battlefield. Starfire obliged as dark energy encased Cinderblock. Coupled with her own strength, Cinderblock rose into the air slowly. Understanding what was going on, Cinderblock smashed both hands onto the ground ahead of him. This sent a shockwave through the ground toppling Starfire and causing him to land on top of her. As soon as he landed, he proceeded to jump up and down on Starfire's unconscious form.

"Stay away from her you bastard!" Robin yelled horrified as he resumed his boomerang bombardment. Staggering backwards from the blows, Cinderblock fell over. Getting up surprisingly quickly, Cinderblock charged towards Robin while Raven teleported Cyborg and the injured Starfire to the Tower. Once stabilized, Cyborg returned to the fight keeping a watchful eye on the sensors he hooked up to the Tamaranian.

As time passed, the Titans began to tire and all they had to show for it was a slightly injured Cinderblock.

"Man, what's this dude made of? We had no trouble taking him down last time." Cyborg complained, tired.

"A better question would be what is he still doing here? I could have sworn we took his powers and locked him away." Robin said, puzzled.

"Well, regardless, we need to take him down soon. I can't keep this up much longer." Raven added, pointedly.

"Agreed." The other two said at once. With that, the three conscious Titans rushed into battle once more. Only to be stopped by a powerful roar. They watched in horror as a second Cinderblock simply raised out of the ground. It was almost identical as the first. Only difference being the fact that it was twice the size. It let out another powerful roar before smashing both hands into the ground sending a shockwave in the Titan's direction. Cyborg jumped out of the way as Robin backflipped into the air and was encased in dark energy and moved to safety.

"What is this? How can there be two of him?" Raven growled as she threw a nearby car at the new Cinderblock. He grabbed the car in midair before throwing it back twice as hard. It hit Raven square in the face and chest as she was thrown back and into a nearby building by the impact. She was instantly knocked unconscious. Cyborg rushed over and checked her pulse, relieved when he found a faint one.

"I got to get her to the Tower." Cyborg stated, still worried.

"Go, I'll cover you." Robin replied, straining as he somehow blocked a hit from the first beast.

"Are you sure?" Cyborg replied, glancing at Robin's shaking arms.

"Go!" Robin yelled over a loud roar. Cyborg reluctantly put Raven in his T-Car and drove them the short distance to the Tower. Hooking her up in the medical wing along side Starfire, Cyborg calibrated his sensors to pick up any activity from either of them as he sped off once again in the direction of the Boy Wonder. When Cyborg arrived, Robin was all but running away from Cinderblock Junior and Cinderblock Senior. Trying to get their attention, Cyborg blasted their faces with his plasma cannon. Cinderblock Junior turned to face Cyborg glaring as he began to charge. As he did so, Cinderblock Senior knocked Robin down with a well placed shockwave. Both Cinderblocks began closing in on the two remaining Titans as they scrabbled to get up. They braced for impact as they stood there tired and weak from the exhausting battle. Suddenly, there was another threatening roar from behind the two behemoths. Cyborg and Robin feared the worst as they took advantage the Cinderblocks' momentary distraction and got to a safe distance. They couldn't beat one Cinderblock, let alone two and now a third at the same time. Especially not with half their team down. They looked back on the battlefield one last time as they prepared to regroup and return with full force. As they gazed along the battlefield however, they were surprised to find, not three Cinderblocks, but two and an angry Hunter. He attacked the monstrosities with a huge ethereal bear. Scratching and clawing at the faces of his enemies and successfully fending them both off. He wasn't doing much damage, however. The concrete monsters were unfazed by both his claws and teeth and simply continued to bash him with their attacks.

"We need to grab the others and help him." Cyborg concluded as he got into the T-Car. Robin nodded and entered the vehicle. Cyborg smirked as he snatched the keys from the Boy Wonder's hands. "Not today buddy, I'll let you drive this baby one day. Get your license first." Robin simply scowled at him as he crossed his arms and said nothing for the short ride. Once the two remaining Titans made it to the tower they rushed to the infirmary and checked on their friends. Raven had woken up and was in the process of healing Starfire.

"Hey, any news from the front?" Raven asked the two as she encased the unconscious Starfire's left leg in black energy and began to mend her wounds.

"We got our asses kicked but Hunter showed up and is buying us time. We need to get over there and help him as soon as Starfire wakes up." Cyborg explained.

"Speaking of, any idea how much longer that'll take?" Robin added.

"Hard to say but I only have minor cuts and bruises left to heal aside from this leg." Raven responded thinking.

"Okay, Cyborg and I will monitor progress from the computer, meet us when Starfire's back." Robin said as they walked out of the room. In the living room, the two watched the fight from the Tower's cameras. Hunter was now channeling an ethereal form of an eagle and managed to lift Cinderblock Jr. He flapped his wings hard as he rose higher and higher in the sky. As he lifted the helpless giant, Cinderblock Sr. caught onto his plan and grabbed onto Cinderblock Jr.'s legs. With a massive tug from both of them, Hunter was thrown to the ground losing his form. Not willing to lose this chance, both Cinderblocks raised their fists to smash him into the ground. Smiling, Hunter teleported directly above Cinderblock Sr. And channeled the form of a whale. Cinderblock Sr. buckled underneath the weight of the massive whale but was quickly relieved when Cinderblock Jr. punched Hunter hard in the face. Reeling, Hunter lost his form and fell into the waiting palm of Cinderblock Sr. Taking the opportunity, the massive monster crushed Hunter with all his might threatening to break his bones. Hunter, prepared for this, teleported to Cinderblock Jr. Unprepared, Cinderblock Sr. attempted to recapture his lost prey and ended up grabbing onto his partner's head. Hunter smiled again as he channeled a whale once more and shattered Cinderblock Jr.'s skull in pieces. Releasing a roar of triumph, Hunter returned to his normal form only to find Cinderblock Sr.'s fist collide with his head sending him sprawling a hundred yards away. Cyborg and Robin yelled in anger while watching just as Raven and Starfire flew into the room. Without even bothering with travel time, Raven teleported the whole group directly onto the battlefield. Immediately the team attempted to distract Cinderblock Sr. from the wounded Hunter. Robin threw his infamous explosive boomerangs, Starfire shot Starbolts at his eyes. Raven threw various objects at the monster's head and Cyborg launched plasma bolt after plasma bolt into his neck. Enraged but not distracted, Cinderblock gunned it for Hunter. Still dizzy from the earlier hit, Hunter staggered to his feet and channeled a colossal bear just as the concrete giant reached him. They clashed, rock on energy. Neither faltering from the impact.

They remained interlocked in a wrestling match of sorts for quite awhile as each grappled for control but was denied by the other. Finally, Hunter got a slight upper hand when one of Cinderblock's feet slipped bringing the monster to it's knees. Hunter doubled his efforts upon seeing this and began to push Cinderblock further and further into the ground. Reeling from the sheer force of Hunter's anger, Cinderblock's body began to crumble. Knowing the end was inevitable, Cinderblock released his grip on Hunter's shoulders and delivered all his power into a final uppercut as Hunter's strength caused him to shatter into a million pieces. The battlefield went silent and everything was in slow motion as Hunter was thrown across the battlefield. Flying nearly two hundred yards, Hunter landed squarely on his head, breaking nearly every bone in his body and severely injuring his spine. He gasped for air as the Titans rushed to his aid. Raven was the first to speak.

"Hunter, why? Why save us at the cost of injuring yourself? You barely know us." Raven exclaimed, a nearby car blowing up while encased in black energy.

"That's w...where y...you're wrong R...rae...I haven't always been H...hunter. B...before this I was...Beast...Boy." Hunter finished as he looked Raven in the eyes, smiled, and slipped into unconsciousness. Broken, Raven screamed as half a city block to the right of the group lost all it's street lights, windows and electricity.

"Raven, no! Calm down or we will all die." Robin yelled, grabbing her and holding her close to muffle and attempt to prevent her powers from doing any more harm. Another street block behind them met the same fate before Cyborg was able to inject Raven with some morphine to cause her to pass out. He turned to Hunter, picked him up as carefully as he could and took him to the medical ward within the tower.

"He's not breathing!" Cyborg yelled, frantically charging the AED. "Guys, snap out of it and help me!" He yelled at Robin and Starfire who stared at Hunter, dumbfounded. His hair and skin had changed from brown and white to green. He now looked like a taller, more muscular version of the Beast Boy who had 'died' years earlier. Shaken from their trance, the two sprung into action helping Cyborg hook up the AED machine and restart his heart.

Ten minutes passed as Cyborg and Starfire cried while trying one last time to revive their lost friend. "I lost you once man. You damn well better believe that's never happening again you little grass stain." Cyborg sobbed as he sent a hopeless electrical charge surging through his friend's body. Suddenly the heart monitor sprung to life releasing a volley of faint yet increasing beeps.

"Yes! He's alive." Robin cheered as he clapped the still crying Cyborg on the shoulder. "You did it man. You saved Beast Boy."

"Don't go congratulating me yet." A half-smiling Cyborg replied. "He's still not waking up."

"What appears to be the matter Friend Cyborg?" Starfire added wiping her own tears and gazing at Hunter's broken form.

"He seems to be in a self-induced coma. Perhaps his body reacting to the beating he took, however, that should have killed him, it broke nearly every bone he has. He has one hell of a recovery system if it managed to heal enough damage to keep him alive." Cyborg explained, still confused. "For now, we wait and address his exterior wounds. I can't fix anything inside him without the risk of killing him. But I can certainly fix up his skin and bones."

"Good news Cyborg, keep us posted. I'm going to go check on Raven." Robin said as he visibly shook. Messing with Raven while unhinged had led to dangerous consequences in the past. But knowing Hunter was alive and on the mend would certainly calm her a bit.

"I cannot believe Friend Beast Boy has returned to us. If only we had realized earlier." Starfire mused as she attempted, poorly, to help Cyborg set Hunter in a body cast.
