The Buchanans weren't always ultra wealthy, but generally proud, until Asa Buchanan betrayed them all by becoming an oil magnate.

1. Grizzly the Maple Maker

Grizzly Buchanan was born in March the 9th 1799. He was the son of an Iroquois chief's daughter named Black Bear and a cowboy named Mark Buchanan.

Grizzly was about four years old when both his parents got shot and then murdered by American colonialists hoping to expand their territory. He was also a bit of a jerk, harassing even his friends. Nonetheless, he got rich by extracting lots of maple syrup from the maple trees.

He wasn't married, but he had a longtime friend named Marge Gould. They birthed an only surviving child named Jasper in 1841. He died an unhappy man in 1869, years after his house burned down.
