AN- I'm sick of writing things that are completely depressing. Time for some one-sided Sonamy.
GRAVELY MISTAKEN
Things between the two of them always began and ended the same.
She'd stand before him, gazing at him with sparkling jade-green eyes that shouted for his attention. He, as always, would play hard to get and run away from her, inviting her to run after him. There had never been a time when she had turned down the opportunity to give chase to the love of her life.
The key word in that statement, of course, was had. Once upon a time, she had been perfectly content with pursuing that streak of blue wind, although she knew deep in her heart that she would never catch him. The impossible hope of hers that one day he would slow down for her had at last shattered into tiny, razor-sharp fragments. Dreams are, after all, fragile things; and hers had been destroyed after many years of wear and tear. Time had forced her to open her eyes and loosen her grip on the one wish that she held so closely to her heart.
Still, she needed an answer.
"Why don't you love me?"
It was no longer a question of if he loved her or not, for she now knew with the utmost certainty that he did not return her affections. Years and years of chasing him through forests and meadows and over grassy hills and golden sand had told her that.
"Because I can't."
His answer came almost as quickly as he turned to leave. She extended a hand to him but let her fingers fall after mere moments. No further explanation was needed. Those three words had said it all. Three little words... a far cry from the three that she'd been hoping to hear from him for years.
Still, that was enough for her.
