AN- There's nothing depressing here, just a bunch of sickly sweet Sonic X Shadow. Enjoy the warm and fuzzy feelings... while they last! (insert evil laugh here)
Self-Exposure and Subsequent Withdrawal
"None of that stuff matters. Deep in your heart, you know the truth of your own feelings."
The words hit Shadow hard; but of course he had to pretend that they meant nothing to him.
"Get out," he hissed, waving away the distraction and lowering his head in an effort to avoid making eye contact with him. "I don't want to deal with you right now."
He scoffed. "Oh, please."
Warm, slender fingers wrapped around his wrists, reminding him of the very reason why they had connected in the first place. Shuddering at the memory of that first night, he returned to a defensive stance, blocking out any and all feelings.
"When do you ever?"
Gritting his teeth, he asked himself why he continued to play these games. Why, he wondered while curled up inside himself, did he constantly ask to be subjected to this game of push-pull?
"Shadow, be honest with yourself. You don't want me to leave. You're just trying to build your walls back up again, 'cause you've just now noticed that they've started to give."
"Shut up," he snarled, breaking away from the other and wincing at the inevitable red marks left by his fingers. "You have no idea why I do the things that I do. Don't attempt to psychoanalyze me."
He clearly heard the other's laugh, and it stung.
"Shadow, come on."
"Get out, Sonic." Shadow held his arms against his chest and sank down onto the bed, staring away from the intruder and focusing all of his attention on the blank nothingness at the wall. If he tried hard enough, he could almost make out what appeared to be a smiling face carved into the drywall.
"No. I'm not leaving, because I know that you don't want me to. See?"
He stiffened and almost immediately rocked backwards as two peachy arms wrapped themselves around him and gloved hands stroked the dark fur of his stomach. He had to admit that his unwanted guest was correct in assuming that he was trying to hide himself from the rest of the world. The last thing he wanted was to be melted by someone as simple as him.
But it was happening, regardless of what he wanted.
"Yeah," Sonic's warm voice whispered at his ear. "You really do care about me, don't you?"
He'd be damned if he'd say it out loud, but...
Yes.
