AN: Welcome home.
HEAT-HAZE
Reality has been shattered, and from the oozing, molten core drips a poison that you once thought yourself immune to. It dyes your fingers brilliant blue, darkening to an inviting shade of violet once it touches your skin. Feeling the attraction instantly, you slip the stained fingers into your mouth. They taste of failure and awakened memories.
This day has been a long time coming. For nearly two years, you struggled to make meaning out of the long-lost words, the vaguely remembered sights, the scattered clues that offered you a glimpse at the person you once were. Now that the answers are in your grasp, what do you plan to do with them?
Will you burn them, perhaps?
The sun beats down on your scarred back as you bend to pick up the shards of glass that lie at your feet. As you hardly have eyes in the back of your head, you will never really know to what extent they managed to break you.
But you're fine with that, with not knowing.
Hands are shaking, vision is blurring, thoughts are freezing in the midst of their orbit in your brain, and all of a sudden you can't breathe.
But you're fine with that, with not living.
You weren't careful enough. A jagged piece of the past slices open the middle finger of your right hand, staining the pure white with your half-breed blood. With steady, unwavering eyes, you watch the evidence flow from you, your expression never changing.
It doesn't matter anymore, does it?
Her voice calls to you from somewhere in the suffocating heat.
It's useless.
You can't feel her there anymore.
