Chapter 15: Down for Me

Point of View: Tiara Grey

"Is he- Is that my-"

"Yes he's your son."

Ian clenches his chest as he leans down on the desk with his other hand, "My son. I have a son."

"I was going to tell you I just didn't want to bring it up so soon and I had to make sure you were going to stay around this time."

He looks back up at me with tears creeping down, "This time? I never left you! You left me you went to California without another look at me! Without a mere thought you tore my heart out and left me to find something to hold on to."

"You hurt me too you were lying to me the whole time!"

"There was nothing to tell! We got a divorce and at the time we were separated!"

"But you were still married!"

"So keeping my son from me was punishment for that?"

I take a deep breath knowing this whole conversation is going in the wrong direction. "We will probably never see eye to eye about what happened five years ago and honestly it doesn't matter that much anymore. What matters is that we have a son a beautiful bright son. I understand why you are mad at me I totally get it but if you don't believe anything I say right now please believe that I would never keep your son away from you to harm you. I wouldn't have named him after you if I didn't want you around."

"Then why wait so long to tell me? I missed so much of his life already!"

"It wasn't my choice!"

As soon as the words are out of my mouth I regret it. Ian goes from sad to mad when it all clicks, "So it was Christian who did this?"

"No it wasn't like that at all. Can we please discuss this later? I don't need any more surprises today."

"Fine."

"Okay I'll send you my address and we can talk right when I get off work."

"Mommy are you okay?"

"Of course baby why do you ask?" I plaster a smile to my face even though I know Ian will be here any second. Everything in me told me to take Joseph to Christian's but I don't want to change his routine just to make my life easier.

"You look tired."

"It's just been a long day honey. Arms up." I slip on his pajama shirt before he plops down on the bed.

"Is Mr. Ian okay now?"

His question completely catches me off guard, "Uh he's getting there."

"Are you two friends?"

I laugh, "I hope so."

Joseph smiles big as he lays down and I pull the sheets over him, "Good! That means he will eventually be your boyfriend."

"Oh really now? What do you know about boyfriends?"

"Granddaddy and grandmommy whisper about you getting a boyfriend so you're really happy. They don't think I hear them but," He narrows his eyes at me and points his little finger, "I hear them."

I laugh even more and kiss his forehead, "You make me really happy now get some sleep."

"Goodnight mama! You're my moon."

"And you're my sun." I turn the lights off and turn on his projecting night light. I close the door slowly, "I love you."

"I love you too," Joseph whispers before turning on his side.

Right when I close the door I hear a knock on the front door. I open it to a subdued looking Ian, "Come in."

He nods and proceeds to the couch in the living room. I sit on the opposite end of the couch causing Ian to examine the space between us, obviously not liking it, but he says nothing. "Joseph asleep?"

"Just put him to bed."

He simply nods again without another word.

"I guess I should explain what happened when I found out I was pregnant."

"That would be nice."

"That was the reason I went to California later. Christian decided that he would let me choose between still going to school or coming to Seattle. I obviously chose school and when it was time for Joseph to be born, the Greys came down to support me. A few months prior to that I told Christian that I wanted you there. I had gotten over being mad at you I was only scared at that point. I was newly eighteen and had no clue how to take care of a child I could barely keep up with school work. Of course Christian avoided bringing you in the picture by assuring me that Joseph would be taken care of however I saw fit. I wanted him close to me so Christian, being Christian, put together a trio of people to take care of Joseph whenever I wasn't available. He got me an apartment with extra room for Joseph and whoever was taking care of him. By the end of my sophomore year I was practically taking care of him myself. We moved here after I graduated and I took a job at GEH."

"Was that the one time you had brought me up in five years?"

"Of course not. All I wanted was for you to be by my side but not out of fear anymore but because I wanted you. I never stopped loving you. Christian knew that hence why he tried to set me up with some people and didn't allow for your name to be spoken. It was like he erased you from my memory, Joseph had only one parent, and I never met the love of my life."

All of sudden Ian scoots closer to me and takes my hand in his, "Why not fight for me, for us, for Joseph?"

"Everyone thinks that Christian's ultimate weakness is me. I might be but he still draws his lines and they are very deep in the sand. When I first arrived in Seattle I went at it for hours with Christian over seeing you or at least contacting you because no matter what I had your son with me. He ended the argument with 'You know Tiara I would hate for Joseph to be apart from you. Having you distracted is not good for him and someone could get the wrong idea that your lifestyle isn't right for him.'"

"He threatened to take Joseph from you?"

"In so many words… in his own Christian way. Ever since then I don't really bring you up."

"He can't have grounds to do that especially since he isn't even Joseph's biological grandfather."

"I don't want to test the waters. Fighting Christian in any way is practically impossible."

Ian pulls me onto his lap to where I'm straddling him. He places his hands on each side of my face, "I never stopped loving you and finding out that you're the mother of my child made me love you even more. No matter what happens or what Christian tries, I will be by your side. I will protect you and Joseph with everything in me until my dying breath. I'm sorry for not being completely honest with you back then and I will never give you a reason to doubt me."

I kiss him making up for the times I couldn't do so, "Spend the night with me."

Cute moment coming up in the next chapter along with the beginning of the war. Review and all that good stuff!
