Old History – Chapter 4

Cassern

Bo's POV

I wake up stretching out my limbs looking around to find myself alone in bed, god! Klaus is so good in bed and yet he leaves me lonely in bed like some, one nightstand. I sigh, get up and get dressed, and come downstairs to find Hayley "Hey." I greet, "Hey." She greets back. There's an awkward silence "So, what are you up to?" I ask her "Nothing much." She answers, "Hey, are up for a rescue mission?" She asks. I think for a moment "Sure." I say, it's not like I have anything else to do. Hayley wants to rescue a wolf named Oliver from Esther's clutches but she needs a distraction from Marcel.

Now we are trekking through the bayou to find the former Alpha of the crescent pack to help us rescue Oliver. We find a beat-up trailer in the middle of a wooden area. Suddenly, we hear a creaking sound followed by a whooshing sound. I duck to the ground and see that Hayley caught two arrows, annoyed she throws them to the ground "Is that your best shot? You're gonna have to do better than that if you're gonna kill a hybrid." She threatens. A man walks towards us pulling out a short sword… something is familiar about him… why does he remind me of… I don't know, someone… "Stop!" A gruff voice calls out, it's Jackson, the former Crescent Alpha. They both turn to face him "Jackson?" Hayley questions confused. "Hayley. I see you met my friend, Ansel." Jackson says, "You know her?" Ansel asks confused, "Yeah, actually. I do. She was supposed to be my wife." Jackson answers.

Hayley and Jackson are talking while I try to figure out where I know Ansel from… he is strangely familiar "You're staring." Ansel says, "Sorry, but have we met before?" I ask. "Can't say I have, because I've never met a Fae before." He tells me, "Oh, how did you know that I'm a Fae?" I ask him but I never get an answer because of Hayley's out burst "You don't want to be the alpha? Fine! I'll save Ollie myself!" She shouts getting up to leave. Ansel gets up as well "Hey, you got a problem, Old Man?" She asks him, "I have no love of vampires, but I will not allow a wolf to be killed by witches." Ansel states and brushes past Hayley to rescue his fellow wolf. Hayley turns back towards Jackson shooting him a look "At least someone is interested." She states and walks away, I follow after them.

We arrive at Lafayette Cemetery sneaking our way through this fog to find Oliver. We find him in the Lycee suspended by his wrist in chains at the greenhouse. Hayley yanks the chains breaking them, Ansel and Hayley start to carry him out I can sense wolves surrounding the cemetery "Guys, we're getting surrounded." I tell them, "They want a fight, I'll give them a fight." Hayley declares. "No." Ansel says, "I came with you to save one of our own, not watch as you kill scores of them. Take your friend out the back, move as fast as you can. I'll hold them off here." He adds. Hayley sighs agreeing and leads Oliver out the back "Aren't you going with them?" Ansel asks. I shake my head "No, I'm going to help you." I tell him, Ansel gives me a look "What? I can fight and I promise not to kill any wolves." I tell him.

We exit the Lycee onto the cemetery surrounded by wolves, I summon a bo staff made of light. The wolves charge us, Ansel and I fight them back to back, him with the blunt end of his sword and me with my staff. We get separated as more wolves come in, I continue to fight off multiple wolves with my staff. A wolf tries to sneak behind me I turn to ready to strike it but a blur comes out of nowhere and snaps its neck, it's Klaus. I glare at him "I had him." I tell him, Klaus smirks "I'm sure you did, Love." He says walking towards me. He leans in to kiss me but I push him away "Uh-uh, leaving me alone in bed like some on night stand. You can explain that to me later, but right now we have to deal with this." I say, looking at the wolves surrounding us again. "Try not to kill them." I add, "Can't promise that." He said.

Klaus and I finish fighting off the rest of the wolves when Ansel appears, Klaus looks shocked to see him "You." He says stunned. "Niklaus?" Ansel says equally stunned walking towards him. Klaus backs away "No, no! You're not real!" He says in a panic, "Niklaus!" Ansel calls out again, "No! You're a phantom, conjured by Esther, that's all you are!" Klaus shouts pushing past Ansel. I catch up to him "Klaus! Klaus! Who is this?" I ask him "Nobody." He tells me, "Klaus…" I say not believing him. "H-he's my… Father." He tells me, my eyebrows furrowed "Your Father, but Mikael's your… oh, your real Father." I say realizing what he meant. "Yes, he was killed by Mikael, a thousand years ago. So, whoever this is, it's an illusion created by Esther to accept her bargain!" Klaus explains.

"Look at me, Niklaus." Ansel says, Klaus turns towards him, "I am flesh and blood. Your flesh and blood. I lingered on the other side, watching you let the world fall apart, until I woke four moons past, in the land of wolves like myself." Ansel explains. Klaus shakes his head in denial "No. No! No, you're just in my head. You're an illusion, created by Mother to sway me." He accuses. Ansel is confused by this accusation "I do not speak for Esther. I know nothing of her bargains." He tells him as he approaches Klaus "But you are my Son." He adds. Klaus seems to be lost in thought before he speaks "And, if what you say is real, you are nothing to me. For all I care, you can crawl back to hell." Klaus says and vamp-speeds away. Ansel has a hurt look on his face at what Klaus said "Sorry." I say apologizing, not sure what I'm apologizing for… it just felt like it need to be said, then I teleport away.

I land in the French Quarter, I let out a breath I didn't realize I was holding. Klaus' Father… his biological Father, and he said that to him. I wonder the Quarter until I reach a park, I sit on a bench. I think about my Dad and about how much I miss him… he's not dead but he disappeared centuries ago leaving our people without a leader, so my Sister took up that mantle and looked after them ever since. Mads helps her sometimes but I don't… not sure why, maybe I just don't want that kind of responsibility. Besides, I'm sure our people are fine with my Brother and Sister watching over them… they don't need me. Speaking of siblings, my Brother appears next to me on the bench "Mads." I greet, "Little Brother." He greets back. "So, how are things?" I ask him, "Fine." He answers. "Why are you here?" I ask getting annoyed "Well, I felt something was wrong, so naturally I thought you were in trouble but here I find you sitting on a park bench, wallowing." Mads explains.

There's a tense silence before either of us speaks "Were you… thinking about Father?" Mads asks, I nod. "Why?" Mads asks, I glare at him "What do you mean, why? Because I miss him." I state. Mads' eyebrows furrow "Miss him. He abandoned us and our people." He argues, "There has to be a reason he did." I argue back, "Yeah, and what reason would that be?" Mads asks rhetorically but I answer him anyway "Maybe, his grieve for Mom got to be too much and he had to leave." I reason. Mads stands up glaring at me furiously "He's not the only one who misses her! I miss her every day! But I didn't abandon our people and leave his only children to fend for themselves!" He bellows angrily.

A single tear falls down my face, Mads sighs "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to blow up at you." He says pulling me into a hug, I hug him back. We pull apart, I wipe my tear away sniffling my nose "It's all right. At least I know why you hate him so much." I tell him. "I don't hate him… I just hate that he abandoned us." He says, "Do you… hate me?" I ask him. Mads looks at me shocked "I could never hate you. You're my Little Brother." He states, "But—but… I abandoned you and Sis, and our people to explore this world. Leaving you guys with all that responsibility." I tell him. Mads grips both of my shoulders looking me in my eyes "You didn't abandon us, you hear me. You didn't abandon us. Sis and I know you didn't want this, you're a free spirit. Like Mom." He tells me. I smile a little looking down at the ground "But… I could help if you guys wanted…" I tell him. Mads shakes his head "No, you belong here in this world. I know our people are secretive but you help the supernatural world remember that we still exist." He tells me. I nod "Thank you, Mads." I say smiling "Of course, Bo." He says smiling, "But you could visit every once in a while." He adds, I chuckle nodding. "So, what got you thinking about Father, anyway?" Mads, "Klaus and his family drama." I answer sheepishly. Mads rolls his eyes and sighs "Klaus. Of course." He said shaking his head. Yeah, Klaus. A little smile on my face as I think about him.
