Authors note
Hello, this story takes place right after the final battle with Xehonart in Kingdom Hearts 3.
As we all know, Sora is a strong boy who's path never wavers, but I often find myself wondering what would happen if he let the darkness overtake him
Losing Kairi would leave his heart open to manipulation, so please enjoy this one-shot where Sora isn't as strong as we all think he is
Thank you ~
"We did it! We closed the door to kingdom hearts and defeated Xehanort", King Micky announced with pride.
He looked at the guardians standing before him; Aqua, Terra, Ventus, Riku, Roxas, Xion, Axel, Donald Goofy and Sora. It had been a long hard road, but they did it, they lived to fight another day.
Sora looked at his friends and let out a sigh of relief. It was finally over, him Riku and Kairi can finally go back to the island an-
Kairi.
The reality of what happened crushed Sora like a ton of bricks
Kairi, he lost Kairi. She was the reason he began this journey in the first place, he had sworn to protect her, they had promised to always be together and now she was gone
The celebration continued around him, but Sora stood silent, unable to put thoughts to words
She was gone, what's the point?
"We'll find a way to get her back, Sora. I promise" the king reassured him, noticing his lack of enthusiasm
But they couldn't, Sora knew they couldn't. She was gone, Xehanort killed her right in front of him while he stood by, useless.
Completely useless
"Sora?" Donald called to him
You won't be able to save him either.
The light in Sora's heart slowly darkened. His friends were his power, but it wasn't enough to save her. Sure, he learned the power of awakening but what's the point if he couldn't even save Kairi?
You can't save any of them. They'll die just like her
"Gawrsh, Sora? Are you alright?" Goofy asked with growing concern
Sora's breathing changed. All of a sudden there wasn't enough air flowing into his lungs. He felt his breaths growing shallow and irregular, he was hyperventilating.
He vaguely heard Riku call his name but his voice was drowned out by the echoes of his own racing heart.
You can't help anyone. You're weak and pathetic.
All at once, the ground met Sora's palms. He couldn't for the life of him catch his breath. He felt like he was drowning. Panic shot through him. He cursed at the ground
She's dead because of you. You can't save any of them. You're useless and pathetic
The guardians watched in horror as darkness slowly engulfed Sora. The light around the happy-go-lucky boy they had all come to know and love darkened. Black flames surrounded him, threatening to swallow him whole.
"Sora" Riku choked out once again. His arm rose in front of him, reaching for his best friend. He had always saved him, now it was Riku's turn.
"No!" Terra warned, "everyone stay back!"
He knew better than most, a darkened light as bright as Sora's was to be feared. This wasn't going to be an easy fight.
Sora could no longer see the people in front of him. His heart held one objective: power.
