A/N 1: Here's the real Chapter 4, accidentally uploaded Chapter 3 again earlier.

A/N 2: I've been having a pretty hectic year personally so it's been awhile since I've uploaded anything. I wrote this story years ago and actually finished it but never finished uploading any of the chapters. Reading through it again, it seems juvenile but then again, it was my first time writing a fanfic. Anyhow, I've gotten some messages from fans asking to upload the rest so here is (finally) the next chapter. Have a nice holiday season and a happy New Year!

Chapter 4

A Close Call

Maggie and Nibgit followed the little purple and green "dog" as it ran out of the hedge part of the labyrinth and into the stone part. They kept running around corner after corner until Maggie needed to stop for a second. "Wait…." she said out of breath and putting her hands on her knees. Nibgit, who was a bit behind, walked up next to Maggie and was also out of breath. The little goblin fell down and rolled on her back; her stomach going up and down fast. "Woof! Woof!" barked the dog as it turned around and ran up to the two; clearly with an infinite amount of energy.

"Hold on….", Maggie said as her breathing started to slow down, "haven't we past this turn already?" Nibgit sat up and looked around. "It all looks da same to me!" the little goblin said as her breathing returned to normal too. "I'm pretty sure we have." said Maggie looking down. "I remember that weed with the yellow flower." she said as she pointed to the plant that was sticking out of the ground next to the wall.

"Maybe if we just turn around this corner…" Nibgit said as she got up and pointed to the right. "We just ran that way!" Maggie said as she slumped against the wall. "This is…."

"Impossible?" said a sly voice. Maggie looked up to see Hunter sitting on top of the opposite wall with a smile. She noticed that he was still dressed the same but without the cape. He had changed his shoes to what looked like black Vans. "No. I was going to say ridiculous." Maggie said giving him a look.

Hunter gave a chuckle, she was quite amusing to him. "Why don't you give up already? You're not going to make it. You only have ten short hours left and you're not even half way there yet." he said with a smile.

Maggie crossed her arms and glared at him. "Well I'll have you know that I'm a pretty good runner."

"Well then you should have no trouble getting to the castle."

"I'm not having trouble."

"Really?"

"Really."

"Well then," Hunter said slyly as he jumped down gracefully. He snapped his fingers. Maggie, Nibgit, and the little dog looked around to see the walls shifting and changing. "You know, you were right before." Hunter said when the walls stilled again. "You did pass that corner already. This part of the labyrinth tends to change by itself slowly so I just sped up the process and rearranged a few things."

"That's…that's…that's…" Maggie spat out.

"Let's see how fast you can get through it now." Hunter smiled and waltzed off; disappearing around a corner.

"I…ugh, the nerve of that guy!" Maggie said angrily, still unsure of what had happened. She sighed and combed her hair back with her fingers, looking around. "Well let's go that way." she said as she started walking to the left with her two companions following her. The little dog barked and ran ahead of the gang. They walked for some time until they were sure that they were still going in circles.

Nibgit sat down to rest while Maggie put her hands on her hips. "My feets hurt." Nibgit pouted. "How long do you think we've been stuck 'ere?"

Maggie sighed. "Too long." A sudden yelp from the little dog caught the attention of Nibgit and Maggie. They turned around to see the creature fall into an oubliette. "Hey! Puppy!" Maggie cried out as they ran towards the hole.

"That doesn't look good." Nibgit said as they peered into the abyss. "Puppy?" Maggie called down. A small bark replied.

"Oh thank goodness!" Maggie put a hand to her chest. "We're comin' down, hold on." Maggie swung her legs over the ledge, getting prepared to hop down. "Hey, waita minute!" Nibgit said putting a small hand on Maggie's arm. "We can't go down there. There could be monsters."

"But we can't leave Puppy down there. Come on, we'll be fine." Maggie replied as she hopped down and disappeared into the darkness. Nibgit reluctantly followed.

The trio were now in a pitch black room. It was silent. Maggie was the one who took the first step forward. She suddenly felt her foot lower as she stepped on a tile that sunk into the ground. All around them torches on the walls ignited with bright fire. Horizontal and vertical rows of buzz saws in front of them were brought to life. There were rows of pendulums that swung back and forth and past that Maggie could see holes in the wall that probably shot arrows. "Wow!" Maggie yelped as the trio backed into the wall.

"What do we do?" Nibgit said. "I…I…ahh!" Maggie said as she backed up further into the wall. "The ceiling is lowering!" she said as they looked up to see the ceiling closing in. Nibgit gave a scream as the dog barked and rolled into a ball. Maggie looked around. There! In the corner was a lever…had that been there before? Maggie looked around for something to throw at it. She saw the purple and green dog rolled into a ball and suddenly she remembered her days when she used to take soccer. Oh how she hated it but today it was going to save her. She carefully made her way around Nibgit and got ready to kick the "ball". She quickly timed the swings of the pendulums and got adjusted to the right angle. "AHH!" Nibgit screeched as the ceiling lowered even faster than before. This was no time to hesitate; Maggie had to do something and she had to do it now. "Here we go!" she said as she gave a good kick.

The moment her foot kicked the creature she felt pain. That thing may have been soft but when it was rolled up, it was like kicking a block of iron with full force. Maggie squeezed her foot as both she and Nibgit watched the ball fly over the saws, through a few pendulums, and hit the lever back. Everything stopped and came to a halt. The fluffy creature fell on the ground, rolled in a circle, and popped back out. "Woof! Woof!" it barked as if nothing happened and urged Maggie and Nibgit follow him. "I can't believe that worked." Maggie thought. "Let's go!" Nibgit said as she ran after the dog. "Okay…" Maggie said as she hobbled after them; her foot aching with pain.

Hunter watched in a crystal as he sat on a bench in the castle's main garden. He saw Nibgit following a little dog and running out of a cave and back into the labyrinth. A few moments later Maggie came limping out. Hunter sighed. "That wasn't supposed to happen." he frowned. He rubbed the crystal and watched Maggie go from limping to walking.

"What the….?" he heard Maggie say as she looked down at her foot which magically seemed good as new. "Come on!" Nibgit said somewhere ahead. "Coming!" Maggie said as she looked at her foot one last time and then ran after them. Hunter gave a sigh of relief and smiled.

"You just couldn't bear to see her hurt, could you?" his inner voice said. He watched Maggie catch up with her friends and threw the crystal up in the air.
