It's a tough week, the first five days they've spent apart since the birth of their daughter and what makes it that more difficult is the fact that their little one asks for her father at every given moment. Meaning they facetime him three times a day, when she wakes up, around lunch, and at night so he can read her a story.
She's also refused to sleep in her own bed ever since he left for Boston. Sneaking into her parent's bed and clinging onto his pillow the very first night and Donna hadn't had the energy to argue about it. Simply told her daughter she could sleep here until daddy comes back.
And the truth is, she can't even blame the kid, for she misses her husband just as much. Has been wearing his sweatpants and dress shirt for days on end now - not only because her own clothes rarely fit anymore.
So when she waddles into their bedroom, a hand resting on her round belly and their daughter jumps out in one of his old shirts, it brings her to tears.
It's the one he got when he studied at Harvard, washed too hot once, making it shrink and ever since they've gotten together, she's claimed it as her own.
But now it's Amanda wearing it; it's way too big, hanging loosely over the little girl's frame, almost touching the ground. But she's smiling so brightly as she runs over; Donna can't help but pull out her phone and snap a picture.
She sends it to him instantly, along with some words about how big she's gotten and how much they miss him.
He instantly texts her back that he misses them too and will be home again tomorrow.
And when he does, he hands both of his girls a gift bag from the Harvard campus store. Amanda's contains a burgundy red shirt in her size, Donna's a bigger one and a little grey jumper with the logo embroidered on it.
He steps closer, letting his hand rest on top of her belly as he presses a kiss against her cheek when she holds the little jumper up to take it in. "Figured I'd get all three of you something to wear."
