A/N: Thanks for reviews! I'm glad so many of you liked my version of Arthur. I thought it was time to write a fic with more into him than just minor ministry employee as there are so few of those. Anyways, here's a new chap for you and it might be the last one of PART 2 save for epilogue/prologue for PART 3 - I haven't decided yet. Still a lot of Dora in this one and the identity of Spirit, I hope you like it!
Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter.
"Hey Dora." Sky said quietly as he sat by her bed in the hospital wing stroking her stone cold hand, telling himself over and over that she was only petrified and would wake up soon. "Remember when we used to play home when we were little? You always played mum and I would play dad and Blake would be our dog because he refused to be anything else. He pretended to be such a tough guy, but really he was just a big softie whenever one of us would ask him to play with us." Sky let out a small laugh. "We'd pretend to get married and Fox would marry us. You always insisted that we had to do the kissing part too because it wouldn't be real otherwise – Fox thought it was the cutest thing ever, we were only four after all."
Sky was silent for a moment before continuing.
"Did you know that I told her I'd marry you for real once? I said that you were the only girl I'd ever marry; that when we were really grown up we'd get married for real with a real priest. We'd get married in our hill, but it would be decorated with lots of pretty flowers, mostly roses because they're your favorite flowers. Blake would give you away and everything would be perfect.
"They're not with us anymore, but you're still the only girl I'd marry." Sky whispered. "So hurry and wake up Dora." He kissed her forehead and stood up turning to leave.
"Did you really mean that?" A quiet hoarse voice asked stopping him in his tracks.
"Dora?" Sky asked turning around, his breath hitching as he saw her blue eyes open and looking at him. He hurried back to her side and touched her face. "How are you feeling? Any pain? Just wait a second I'll go get Pomfrey..."
"Sky." Dora said and Sky stopped. "I'm fine." She said coughing slightly. Sky gave her a bit of water. "Did you really mean that?" She asked again.
"Every word." Sky said readily holding her hand. "I love you. Always has and always will." He said brushing a stray hair behind her ear.
"Really?" Dora whispered tears forming in her eyes.
"Really."
"What, what about Ginny?" Dora asked.
It took Sky a minute to realize who she was talking about as he had already gotten used to thinking about his sister as Emily and not Ginny as she was called by other people – a fact that surprised a laugh out of him.
"You don't need to worry about Ginny." He chuckled. "Merlin that would be disturbing…" He commented.
"But I thought you liked her." Dora frowned not willing to just accept it. "You were going on and on about her all the time."
"I know but that wasn't because I was interested in her in that way. That was because the bond was making me."
"A bond?" Dora asked confused.
"Ginny Weasley is my long lost sister, Emily Potter." Sky said. "Our mother placed a bond between us so that should we be separated by the war we'd be always able to find each other. Only the bond was disturbed when my magic was bound and it activated when we stumbled onto each other at Diagon alley this summer. That's why I have been able to sense her whenever she's near and she's been on my mind for the past months."
Dora looked stunned and slightly relieved but before she could open her mouth the door to the hospital wing opened and a red-headed girl looked inside.
"Sky?"
"I'm here Ems." Sky said and watched as his sister walked in cautiously.
"I just wanted to…" She started before noticing that Dora was awake. "Oh hi! You're awake!" She exclaimed happily. "I'm glad. Sky has been a pain to deal with when he's been so worried about you." She said teasing her brother. "I'm Ginny, by the way, or Emily if you prefer."
"Dora." Dora said cautiously.
"Oh I know, Sky hasn't been able to shut up about you for the past few days. I think I know more about you than I know about him." Ginny winked smiling widely as Sky blushed.
Sky cleared his throat. "Was there something you needed Emily?"
"Yeah. I was just wondering if you'd bring me to see mum and dad over Christmas." She said a bit shyly.
"Of course." Sky said.
"Thanks." She smiled. "I'll leave you to your girlfriend now. It was nice to meet you Dora."
"You too Emily." Dora managed before the girl was gone.
"She's quite…" Dora trailed off trying to find the right word.
"I know." Sky said. "She's already playing the part of an annoying little sister though we have known about each other less than a week. Though I guess it helps that she's been an annoying little sister for six other brothers as well, it's familiar."
"She's adjusting well." Dora commented.
"She has her moments. The hardest part is accepting that his adoptive father knew who she was and never told her. She feels as if her whole life has been a lie."
Dora nodded understanding some of what that was like. She had grown up thinking her parents had abandoned her and had her moments when she hated them for it and then one day she had two loving parents who had searched for her and there was a logical explanation for her disappearance. Adjusting to living with her parents had been hard and sometimes she still struggled with it. She and her parents had a huge well between them and Dora often felt like her parents didn't understand her at all. They still thought of her as their little girl who needed doting and restrictions and couldn't take care of herself not accepting the fact that she was independent, that she needed her independence.
"Dora?" Sky asked drawing her from her thoughts.
She mentally shook her head and looked at Sky.
"You didn't correct your sister when she called me your girlfriend." She commented causing Sky to blush slightly.
"No I didn't." He admitted. "I was hoping you would be."
"Is this because of what I said before…?" Dora asked. "I was just angry and tired; you know I didn't mean any of it." She said dismissively.
"Not even the part when you said you're in love with me?" Sky asked. "You don't need to lie to me Dora, I know you better than that. And I'm sorry. I have treated you horribly these past weeks, hell the whole year. You deserved to know everything I kept from you and had I not been bound by wows I would have told you. My feelings for you have nothing to do with what you said at the RoR apart from the fact that it helped me realize my feelings for you. It helped me realize once again that I can't live without you."
Dora opened her mouth to speak but Sky waved a hand at her.
"No Dora let me finish before saying anything." He said. "When…When you said that you were going to leave me it was like someone thrust a knife into my heart over and over. I felt the same when Marcus told me you had died in the fire. Because I can't lose you, Dora. You're everything to me. Regardless of if we are together romantically or just remain friends, I don't care as long as I don't lose you.
"I need you in my life Dora. Always have. I loved Blake and Fox, but you were the most important to me. You were the one that saved me. You were the one that gave me my name. You were the one that finally convinced me that I wasn't a freak, that I was important and worth something." Sky continued his voice lowered to a whisper. "You were the reason I clung to the past. I couldn't let you go. And then when I found you in that dusty classroom nearly a year ago alive and well, it was like a huge rock had been lifted off my heart. And I felt true happiness for the first time since losing you. I never want to go through that again, Dora. I love you and I wouldn't give you up for anything."
"I love you too." Dora sniffed and hugged Sky burying her face into his neck.
"Don't ever die on me again Dora." Sky whispered.
"Never."
It took a few days for Dora to recover, but the Mandrake potion that had been mysteriously donated for the school had done its trick and soon she and the others were back in full strength in no time. Sky had hardly left from her side and had been telling her everything from his training and his mission to the happenings in the Chamber of the Secrets and getting the last of his memories back.
Dora hadn't been that surprised about his training as she had figured something of the like but was of the fact that he was an Unspeakable and she had a possibility to join them, which she of course accepted. In fact she had been so excited about the prospect that as soon as she got the 'all clear' from Madam Pomfrey she was begging to see the DoM. Sky happy to see her okay and back to her old self indulged her as soon as the Christmas holidays begun. Since then the two had been going there every day to train and Sky had allowed Dora to even test herself in a few easier mock missions, which she had passed near-flawlessly.
Now though they were fighting hand to hand combat in the private training room, which could only be accessed by Marcus and those who he allowed to. Sky was proud to say that Dora had processed very well and gave him even a little bit of a challenge.
They had been going at it for a half an hour already when Dora got frustrated and decided to play dirty. She morphed her body so that her boobs turned three times as big as they were successfully causing Sky to get distracted and managed to pin him down on his back so that she was on top of him.
"Gotcha!" She laughed at Sky's disgruntled expression.
"That's playing dirty!" He complained.
"You're complaining?" Dora raised an eyebrow playfully causing Sky to blush. "Besides, you're the one always going on and on about not getting distracted no matter what happens around you."
Sky opened his mouth to protest when the door to the training room opened and Dora turned her head to look who it was, only to find herself pinned to the ground with Sky on top of her.
"Never get distracted by your surroundings." Sky said adapting his teacher tone before grinning at his girlfriend who rolled her eyes. As Marcus and his guest approached Sky stood up and pulled Dora, who morphed back to her original look with him.
"Sky, Dora, this is Agent Spirit my…" Marcus started but was cut off by him companion.
"Nymphadora?!" The man suddenly exclaimed and Dora paled.
"Dad?" She asked stunned.
"What in Merlin's name are you doing here?" He cried pulling his gray hood off revealing a brown-haired man with the same blue eyes as Dora had when she wore her real looks like she often did when she was around Sky. "You're supposed to be at school!"
"I – " Dora opened her mouth to speak but came up with nothing, looking at Sky for support.
"Sir, I think we should just…" Sky started but the man – Dora's father – ignored him turning to Marcus.
"Did you know that you have my twelve-year-old daughter… what? Training to be an Agent?!"
Marcus though clearly surprised himself remained calm as he answered.
"I was not aware of your relation to Dora Ted but yes, I knew."
"What the fuck were you thinking, Marcus?!" Ted cried enraged. "She's twelve! She's a child! You can't just recruit children!"
"I'm not a child!" Dora exclaimed. "And I turn thirteen in a week!"
"Be quiet Dora." Ted said forcefully. "She has no business in here, Marcus."
"I have every right to be here!" Dora shot back. "And one could ask what are you doing here Agent Spirit? You're supposed to be at work too. As a news reporter in a Muggle TV. As if." She said sarcastically and folded her arms. "Does mum know?"
"We're not talking about me here Nymphadora…"
"Do not call me that!"
"I will call you whatever I want. You're my daughter! My underage daughter. And you'd better not argue with me young lady; you're enough in trouble as it is!" Ted thundered. "Now go get your things, we're going home!"
"No!" Dora exclaimed. "I will go nowhere with you. I earned my place in the Agency and you can't take it from me."
"Watch me! You're my child and my responsibility…"
"For fuck's sake get it through your thick skull that I'm not a child anymore!" Dora screamed. "I'm not your little girl! Maybe it comes as a newsflash to you but She. Is. Dead! Your little girl died the first time she got beaten because she tried to steal a slice of bread after starving for three days! The first time she nearly got raped because she was so pretty! The first time she had to kill as to not to be killed herself." She said forcefully, breathing heavily before taking a deep breath.
"Your precious little Nymphadora. She. Never. Came. Back. I'm not her and I never will be, so stop treating me like it." She finished tears of anger and bitterness forming in her eyes before she stalked out of the training room, the door slamming after her. The three men stared after her one shocked and horrified one in sadness and understanding and one in calm, sad resignation.
Sky exchanged a look with his father before turning to look at Dora's father, who was still looking at the door lost and hopeless look in his eyes.
"You should really take into consideration what Dora just said, Mr. Tonks." He said. "She's not the little girl you remember. She may have been gone only for few years, but in those years she went through things that most adults don't experience in their entire life, let alone a child should have to. I know that it's hard for you to understand, but when she says that she's not a child she truly means it. What she went through – what we went through – in those few years forced us to grow up faster than anyone should. It forced us to be independent from a very young age and there's no going back from that. The only thing you can do now is to get to know the person she has become and not to try to force her into someone she's not." Sky said and with these words he too left the room to catch up with his girlfriend leaving Ted to ponder his words.
Sky found her on the grounds of Lux Manerium sitting under their favorite tree. He sat down next to her drawing her into a hug and they stayed like that for a long time just listening to the sounds of nature.
"I can't believe my Dad has been lying to me all these years." Dora said.
"You know the rules Dora." Sky said gently.
"Yeah, I know but still. I wonder if mum knows." She said.
"I doubt it. The families are allowed to know only in very special circumstances. Besides, Marcus said that he and Ghost as well as Spirit all left the DoM after the First War ended. That would have been the time you were born. He probably left because he had you and most likely really is a news reporter in Muggle TV. He is just one of the many connections we have to the Muggle world."
"True." Dora sighed. "I hope he's not gonna become a problem… He can't forbid me from training can he?"
"No. There is nothing he can do apart from talking Marcus into not letting you stay, which he won't be able to do." Sky added as Dora looked panicked. "Don't worry about it Dora, it's more like Dad will talk him into coming around."
"I just wish he accepted me for me." Dora said frustrated. "I know I probably shouldn't have said some of the things I did, but it just all came pouring out. I have put up with their smothering for too long. I just couldn't take it anymore!"
"It will be fine, Dora. He's your father." Sky said his head on her shoulder. "And I think he needed to hear that. It might take a while but I think he will understand."
Dora sighed.
"I hope you're right."
Back in the training room Marcus put his arm on his friend's shoulder and led him out of the room back to his office. They sat in silence for some time, Marcus letting Ted to gather his thoughts after what he just learned of his daughter.
"How long?" Ted asked after a while. "How long has she been here?"
"Officially two weeks, just before the beginning of the Christmas holidays." Marcus said.
"And unofficially?"
"She has been a strong candidate for about a year now. I was very reluctant to take her in because of her age – you know that while there is no age limit for recruitment we have never taken anyone under sixteen in."
"So why did you? Why her?"
"At first it was merely for my son. It was difficult for him to be keeping such a huge part of his life hidden from her. But then she expressed a will to be trained and fight in the upcoming war. She asked my son to train her and she already possessed some fighting skills – it wasn't long till she became a strong candidate merely of her own potential and then her physical age didn't matter anymore. She is mature beyond her peers just like my son is and being so close to my son would always make her a target, it was just safer to train her too."
Ted was silent for a moment, digesting this new information.
"You son?" He asked finally.
"Yes, Sky, my son or Agent Shade as he is known in here."
"He's an Agent already? I thought he's the same age as Nymphadora."
"He is." Marcus. "He received his badge when he was eight. He has been a fully-ledged agent for nearly five years now."
"But he's so young."
"Only physically." Marcus said a hint of sadness in his voice before sighing. "I know how you feel Ted. You look at Dora and see the little girl you lost and you want to coddle and protect her but you can't keep treating her like that. I did the same with Sky at first but he didn't need me to be an over-protective father. He needed someone who would accept him as he was. Someone who would be there when he needed them; someone to guide him. And that's what I did. It took time and effort, but I learned to see him as his own person and he learned to trust me not to smother him. I may offer him guidance and advice but the final decision is his."
Ted took a shuddering breath and nodded.
"Your son… Sky… He was with Dora… back then?"
"Yes. Dora was the one who found Sky from the streets, abandoned and beaten to half death. She gave him a new life, a new name, a new family."
Ted nodded lost in his thoughts.
"She has never spoken about it before… Her time away." He said quietly. "She said she couldn't remember anything. But sometimes… sometimes she'd have nightmares. I could hear her scream. Sometimes she screamed that name. Sky."
Marcus nodded grimly.
"It was a hard time they went through, there's bound to be scars. But now that they have found each other again, I believe they are better."
Ted nodded with a sigh.
"There's nothing I can do to make you forbid her training, is there?" He asked already knowing the answer.
"No." Marcus said calmly.
"Figured as much."
"It doesn't have to be a bad thing Ted." Marcus said. "She will learn to defend herself. You saw already how good she is. Furthermore, like it or not the war will come and she will be a target, especially being so close to Sky. It's better if you just accept it now."
"You're right as always Marcus." Ted sighed. "Unfortunately it doesn't make it any easier."
"It will get better Ted." Marcus said clapping his friend's shoulder. "In time it will get better."
