And I'm back with another chapter! I want to thank Celgress and superfan for reviewing last chapter and as you can see this will be another Aftermath chapter where we'll see what Superman and Storm are up to!
I still own nothing but the plot
Normal pov
"I think we got the short end of the stick today." Superman says with a defeated sigh.
"Still haven't heard anything yet?" Storm asked.
"Nothing out of the ordinary." Superman admits. "Maybe Bruce was wrong about his intel."
"Don't ever let him hear you saying that. You know how much he loves being ahead of everyone especially criminals." Storm states with a smirk shaking her head. "Besides Cheetah's the one who gave him the info, I doubt she'd lied considering her…soft spot for him."
The couple were currently having a stakeout on the roof of Stryker's Island, originally the stakeout would have been done by Batman and Ororo and Clark would have had the day off. But at the last minute he decided to join the other members of the team whom were investigating the disappearance of Central City. According to Cheetah's Intel though there was going to be a breakout and there was a possible rumor that some of the other members of the Injustice Team were recently hired by someone whom wasn't Lex Luthor.
Not wanting to risk missing any trouble just in case the disappearance of Central City was related to the breakout, Batman asked Storm and Superman to take over the stakeout while he helped the other members of their team. And considering all the times he's covered for the couple so that they could go on dates, the couple couldn't say no to the request.
"Well if they are planning a breakout soon, they're making sure to not talk about it." Superman says with another sigh. He'd been focusing his super hearing on the prison all day and still hadn't heard anything.
"Inmates have access to pencil and paper." Storm states out loud. "You don't have to say anything out loud if you're passing notes."
"I've x-rayed the building a few times." Superman proclaims. "No one is passing notes of any kind. In fact as far as I can tell most of them are staying apart as much as they can."
"Not being seen too much together is a smart strategy, even if it does make our jobs a lot harder." Storm says with a shrug.
"Yeah I guess it-" Superman stops mid-sentence intensely listening to a conversation that Storm couldn't hear. "Well that was weird." He says before turning his head to face Storm. "Star Sapphire suddenly started talking to Tsukuri during lunch."
"Tsukuri?" Storm questions out loud. "Who is she again?"
"A mercenary, very skilled in martial arts and her weapon of choice is the katana." Superman states in a matter of fact tone.
"Must be nice to have a computer for a brain." Storm says teasingly.
"Everyone's brain is a computer, mine just processes and retains things a lot faster and longer." Superman said. "Though I don't get why Star Sapphire is talking to Tsukuri at all she wasn't a part of the gang with Luthor?"
"Well even though everyone found out that Cheetah was not the traitor, the Injustice Gang still doesn't completely trust her. They wouldn't want her…attraction to get the better of her again." Storm recalls. "Perhaps Tsukuri has been added to take her place?"
"It sure doesn't sound like it." Superman proclaims shaking his head. "All the two keep talking about is how the garden salad was botched and hopefully the new kitchen crew will do a better job next Tuesday."
"I don't remember hearing anything about a new kitchen staff being hired?" Storm questions out loud.
"That's because they didn't, the inmates are rotated for kitchen duty every couple of weeks." Superman explains. "Now they're taking about how so many new bio technology advances are costing more and more money. This whole thing just sounds like nonsense."
"Maybe." Storm says evenly.
Hours later after not getting any more new information the couple decided to call it a day and headed over to Watchtower to report their non-findings.
"Well besides general complaints about the prison salad there is nothing worth wild to report." Superman says out loud giving Batman an even look.
"Perhaps you weren't listening in careful enough?" Batman says with a frown. "For all you know the gang were speaking in code?"
"If you think there's some sort of hidden message about garden salads and bio technology than I'll be happy to hear you explain it." Superman counters forcefully.
"You didn't find it odd that they were talking about bio technology?" Batman questioned darkly before walking away from the couple. "Seems out of place if you ask me?"
"I told you not to let him know that you doubt his Intel." Storm says with a sigh shaking her head.
"But I didn't-" Superman begins to say defensively.
"You might as well have." Storm interrupts giving him a pointed look, just as the Flash walked into the room.
"Oh man, you guys missed out on one crazy mission." Flash begins to explain shaking his head in disbelief. "Get this so this mad science monkey, comes to my city to meet up with his internet girlfriend so that they could destroy a hidden city in Africa were other super smart monkeys live! Can you believe that?!"
"What?" Storm and Superman shared a look then questioned at the same time.
"I know talk about a wild Saturday night." Flash states shaking his head. "Luckily I was able to save the day by out smarting the big ape."
"What?" The couple questioned again.
"Read the report." Green Lantern states walking into the room as well drinking some coffee. "Trust me it'll make a lot more sense that way."
"Hey! I've explained it perfectly fine." Flash says defensively. "Word for word, with all the details they could possibly need!"
"Sure you did kid." Green Lantern says in an even tone that clearly meant the Flash was wrong before walking out of the room with the Flash quickly following close behind.
"You don't really think?" Superman begins to ponder.
"Considering the world we live in its very likely. Maybe we should have joined the others after all?" Storm says evenly. "I'm going to talk to Batman."
It doesn't take Storm long to find Batman in the control center seemingly going through the files of the Injustice gang, barely acknowledging her presence as she stood behind him.
"There really wasn't any chatter all day." Storm states knowing that he was upset.
"Doesn't mean that they're not up to something." Batman says coolly. "He could have probably heard something and not realized what it truly meant."
"Well then if they were speaking in code then they'd have known that someone could be listening in?" Storm questions.
"You don't trust Cheetah's info either." Batman states darkly.
"Well she is a criminal…and a cat, which tends to make you a bit blind-sided." Storm proclaims just as darkly. "What are the chances that the group wanted someone listening in?"
"And risk being stopped?" Batman questions. "Not likely."
"Unless it's a setup." Storm says evenly. "Which they have done before." Before Batman could argue his case further another person walked into the control room.
"Storm?" Diana said from behind the two heroes catching them both by surprise. "Can I speak with you for a moment? When you're free?"
"Yes of course." Storm agrees walking over to the other woman she sees that Diana appeared to be a bit nervous. "Is everything alright Diana?"
"Everything is fine. Why do you ask?" Diana questions as she spasms a little bit.
"No reason." Storm answers calmly deciding not to comment on her body language. "You needed to speak with me?"
"Yes well…as you know I've lived on Themyscira for most of my life and therefore have no understanding or experience with modern accoutrements. So I wondered if perhaps you'd show me how to adapt to such things. Whenever you have the time of course." Diana was finally able to ask.
"I'll be happy to take you shopping Diana." Storm proclaims with a gentle smile. "Though I must say, I am surprised you never seemed to care about such things before?"
"Yes well, I feel that it is time that I adapt to the new environment for which I seem to spend most of my days." Diana explained.
"Yes well it is always good to adapt." Storm states nodding her head. "Well then I have some free time next week, if you want to do it then?"
"Yes that should be fine, I'll see you then." Diana nods before walking out of the room.
"Are you going to tell me what that was about?" Storm asked turning to walk back over to Batman once she was sure that Diana was gone.
"Sounds like you're going shopping next week with Diana." Batman answers in an even tone. "Should be interesting considering how isolated she's been for what could be centuries."
"I'm talking about the way you reacted when Diana walked in?" Storm questions with a smirk. "And don't pretend as if I'm being foolish. I take pride in the fact that I'm one of the few people whom can read you."
"And yet you're not reading in the right language." Batman states evenly not looking away from the computer.
"I do believe I am reading in the right language." Storm proclaims with a smirk. "Actually based on your reaction I know that I am for a fact. You twitched when she walked into the control room. Care to explain?"
"You're reading too much into it." Batman turns to glare at Storm.
"So you admit that there is something to read?" Storm said in a teasing voice despite his annoyance. "Now isn't this an interesting development?" Batman just turns to face the computer again without speaking to her. "So what happened during the mission today?"
"A hyper-intelligent gorilla named Grodd, used a mind control helmet to gain access to a restricted area so that he could use missiles to destroy a hidden city." Batman explained evenly. "Of course the team was able to stop Grodd's plan."
"Right Flash said something about outsmarting him." Storm recalls.
"And we'll be hearing about that over and over again for the next week." Batman says with a sigh. "Grodds in custody with his city's own officials now."
"Do we have a way to communicate with the city's officials in case something happens again?" Storm asked.
"Gorilla City would rather have no communication with the outside world." Batman proclaims evenly.
"So there really is a hidden city in Africa in this world." Storm says with a sigh. "By now you'd think I'd stop being surprised every time I hear about newly discovered hidden cities."
"Yes, but if I understand correctly this hits a little closer to home." Batman states to which Storm becomes silent. "You never talk about it anymore."
"Trying not to dwell on it." Storm says evenly. "I wouldn't be able to move forward here if I kept letting it hold me back."
"And you think that's healthy?" Batman questions. "Never talking about it again?"
"Do you?" Storm fires back with a glare.
"And this is why we never got together." Batman says darkly.
"We know each other so well and yet, two people drowning can rarely save themselves let alone each other." Storm says sadly. "It's why I don't approve of your cats."
"Even the ones that end up giving us useful information." Batman asked evenly. "Guess what company has been making headlines about their new top secret project?"
"Gotham Biotech?" Storm says now looking at the computer screen. "Not exactly within walking distance of Stryker's Island."
"If something there is valuable than any criminal will want their hands on it." Batman states darkly.
"The question is who?" Storm ponders out loud. "And for what reason?"
A/N and that's the end of this chapter sorry it's not very long but my step-grandmother recently died and I just didn't have the mind set to dive deeper with this one. Hopefully next chapter will be better. I look forward to reading your reviews see ya!
