Chapter 5: Arlong Park
Nami nervously held the controller in her hands, palms gleaming with sweat as she stared at the next episode. She knew that this was coming, and had expected to face the bastard who had controlled her for most of her life. The navigator just didn't think that she would have to deal with this so soon.
"Arlong…" Nami venomously thought.
Everyone else had quieted down once they realized the episode that was up next. For the members that had been present at the time, they knew just how much this episode was going to mean for Nami. For Chopper and Robin, the two were confused by the unusual uneasy atmosphere that overtook the crew.
Robin easily deduced that it had to do with the upcoming episode. "Arlong Park?" She's not familiar with the pirate himself, but the Fishman Jolly Roger is recognizable. The archaeologist didn't like being left out of the loop, but she knew that her questions would be answered soon.
Sanji carefully stepped up to Nami, reaching to put a hand on her shoulder. "Nami-swan, you don't have to-"
"I'm fine, Sanji." Nami pushed his hand away. "I can handle this just like how you all handled your episodes." Her voice was softer than it normally was, missing that edge that Nami usually had. "This is all in the past anyway. Arlong is rotting in a prison cell now… he can't hurt me anymore." She reassured them, though the words felt more like a reassurance for herself.
Usopp gulped and didn't know what to do. "While, he remembered all that had plagued Nami's home village and her life. Everything they were about to see was personal for her, the sharpshooter was thankful that his episode didn't show anything too bad about himself. He could only hope that whatever Nami didn't want seen wasn't going to be shown.
Luffy and Zoro kept quiet, simply watching Nami as she prepared herself for the episode. The swordsman wasn't going to stop Nami or try to play the episode for her. This was her decision and something she felt she needed to do. It wouldn't help her to treat her like a child who was scared of the dark, she was gonna have to face her fears once more.
"What's wrong, Nami?" Chopper asked.
The navigator smiled at the doctor. "I-I'm okay, Chopper. Just some goosebumps." Chopper didn't believe her, his instincts as a doctor were telling him something else. So the reindeer decided to climb onto Nami's lap in an attempt to comfort her.
"Ah!? Chopper!?" Sanji gasped, feeling envious.
"What? You're jealous of an animal, shitty cook?" Zoro jabbed.
"Shut the hell up, moss head!" Sanji kicked at Zoro, who blocked the strike with his arm. The two devolved into another fight quickly.
A cartoonish tick mark popped up on Nami's forehead, the noisy crewmates dragged her out of her thoughts. She quickly got up, holding Chopper in her arm, and bashed the two with the controller. "WILL YOU TWO SHUT UP!? I CAN'T THINK FOR A DAMN MINUTE!"
"SORRY, NAMI-SWAN!"
"Tch."
"Shishishishishi!" Luffy couldn't help but laugh at the two being scolded. Until the controller smacked him in the head as well. "Ow! What did I do!?"
"You were going to do something stupid eventually. Might as well hit you now." Nami justified her actions.
"You have no proof!" Luffy exclaimed.
"You're all the proof I need!"
"Ah! Nami! You're squeezing me too hard!" Chopper cried, struggling to breathe.
"Don't worry, Chopper! Captain Usopp will save you from the dastardly witch!" Usopp jumped up.
"WITCH!?" Nami's anger was on him next, making Usopp shrink to the size of a mouse.
Robin smiled softly at the devolving chaos. Once again this crew managed to dissolve any tension in the air just as quickly as it arrived. Though, she was sure it was going to return once the episode started. "Ms. Navigator, don't you think it was time we started?"
Nami turned from Luffy to look at Robin. "R-right." She and the others sat back down in their seats as Nami went to the character select screen. That's when everyone noticed a certain detail about Luffy's character.
"Ah! Luffy! Your hat is missing!" Chopper cried, shocked.
Nami quickly wondered why Luffy's hat would be gone until the memory clicked, she blushed softly in embarrassment. "D-don't worry about that, Chopper."
Sanji perked up quickly though. "Pick me, Nami-swan! I'll be your gallant kni-"
She picked Luffy without hesitation earning a heartbroken gasp from Sanji. "Did you say something, Sanji?"
"N-no… I didn't."
The Strawhats prepared themselves for the episode as the title and summary popped up on the screen.
CHAPTER 1
EPISODE 4:
ARLONG PARK
Nami felt her hands become clamming again as the summary played the story up to this point. The navigator didn't bother listening to it, because she knew everything already.
Bell-mere.
Nojiko.
Genzo.
Cocoyashi village.
The navigator had to keep reminding herself that it was all in the past now. Arlong couldn't hurt them anymore and her mother had been avenged. There was no reason to cry.
"Gyaaaah! You octo-jerk!"
"What's this? More rebellion!?"
"Looks like I've decided to follow after one dumb Captain."
"That's it! No more playing at being a pirate!"
"Not even the god of death can take my soul!"
"You inferior humans…! How could you do this… to a Fishman!"
"Nami! I love you!"
"Luffy… Help…"
"DON'T YOU MAKE MY NAVIGATOR CRY!"
Nami sat alone in her childhood home, staring at her blistered hands. "...Just a bit more, Bell-mere… A bit more and I'll get it all back…the Cocoyashi Village tangerine grove…and my dream. It took forever but I'm only 7M Beli short of the hundred million… At this rate, I probably only need one more trip. After one more trip, I'll get everything back… It'll all be paid off…"
"Was he really going to set the village free for one hundred million?" Chopper asked.
"Just watch and you'll find out, Chopper." Nami said.
"We'll be free from Arlong! Then Bell-mere…then, finally, we can smile again."
"To smile genuinely again? When was the last time I've done that?" Robin could sympathize with Nami. The last time she was smiling with all of her heart was… The archaeologist shook her head. "Now isn't the time to be thinking about that."
Nami stormed Arlong Park, furious at the fishman. "Arlong!"
"Oh, what's wrong, my magnificent navigator? You look pale." Arlong asked, mockingly.
Luffy's fists were balled tightly, just hearing Arlong refer to Nami as 'his navigator' was already rubbing the captain the wrong way.
Nami's stomach churned at Arlong's voice, she had wished to never hear his voice again, but knew she had to put up with it for now.
"Your dirty Marines came to take my money!" Nami cried. She ran up to the pirate, gripping his coat. "What's the meaning of this!? You said you'd honor any deal made with money!"
"Teamed with the Marines?" Robin asked.
"Arlong was conspiring with the Marines that whole time." Nami answered. "The bastard never intended to keep his side of the deal. As soon as I had collected enough money, I found it all taken from the hidden place I had kept it."
Sanji lit a cigarette. "To betray Nami-swan like that… after everything he had put her through up to this point." The chef could feel his own anger boiling as well.
Arlong raised a brow at her. "Hmm? Hold up? When did I break my word?"
"Don't play dumb! You gave my money to the Marines…" Nami accused. As soon as she did Arlong wrapped his large hand around her face, all you could see were her tear stained eyes.
"Nami!" Chopper cried, worried for her. He felt the navigator patting his head softly.
"It's okay, Chopper. I'm right here." She said.
"When did I break my word…? You tell me!" Arlong smiled maliciously, enjoying the sight of Nami's pain. "HA HA HA HA HA HA!"
"All he wanted was to keep me as his slave. To keep drawing maps for him until the day I dropped dead. My home was never going to be free… my dreams… my hopes… Bell-mere… all of it…" Nami remembered every day she spent in that accursed tower, drawing maps for the Arlong Pirates. All of the nights she went without food or too little food if she didn't meet a quota, all of the pain the villagers and her sister went through, and every goddamn tear that fell from her eyes…
…And the gunshot that pierced through her mother.
Even now she could feel the tears threatening to fall as she forced them to stay back.
Nami, after having left Arlong Park, collapsed to the ground. Her entire village was going to fight the Arlong Pirates in a suicide battle…
…All for her sake.
The Navigator clawed at the Arlong tattoo that marked her shoulder. Nothing but venomous hate seeped through her eyes as she stared at it. Reaching for her knife, she began stabbing it into her shoulder.
STAB!
"Arlong!"
STAB!
"Arlong!"
STAB!
"Arlong!"
STAB!
"Arlong!"
STAB!
"ARLONG!"
The Strawhats who had been present for this episode originally were boiling with anger. All of this had already happened, but that didn't change what Arlong had done to Nami. The mark he left on her emotionally and mentally would stay with her for the rest of her life, and surely seeing this play out was bringing back horrible memories for her.
Chopper watched horrified as Nami stabbed herself repeatedly. As a doctor he knew it wasn't safe for her to be doing that, but as a friend he wanted nothing more than to ram his horns into Arlong's face. The reindeer wished he could've been there for Nami originally, but there was nothing he could do about it now. All Chopper could do was be here for her now.
Robin felt like her situation with Nami was similar, but also extremely different. Her home and loved ones were robbed from her, because of the World Government. However, Nami lost her freedom because of one selfish man. Her mother, her freedom, and her dreams were thrown back into her face even with all of the blood, sweat, and tears she had lost.
That feeling of hopelessness and despair, it was suffocating. But as Robin watched the scene change, a small smile graced her lips. It seemed that even within that hopelessness, a beacon of light would break through.
Luffy held Nami's wrist, stopping her from stabbing herself even further. The captain didn't say anything as Nami dropped the knife. "Luffy… What are you doing!? It's none of your business…!"
"You're right. It isn't."
"I told you to go away… ! told you this didn't concern you…! Didn't I!?"
"Yeah, you did."
"GO AWAY!" She screeched, swiping dirt at him. "YOU! GO AWAY! GO AWAY! GO AWAY! GO away! Go away! Go away…" Nami stopped screeching, tears were falling non-stop. Luffy didn't say or do anything in response to Nami's outburst.
….
….
….
"Luffy…" Nami turned her head back. "Help me…"
Luffy took off his hat, softly putting it on her head.
Nami flinched when something was suddenly placed on her head. The navigator reached up and felt Luffy's straw hat was once again placed in her possession. Nami turned her head to see Luffy staring at her with an intense gaze. And just like on screen, Nami felt as if she was transported back onto that same dirt road in her village.
"OF COURSE, I WILL/OF COURSE, I WILL!"
Nami cried freely after Luffy's powerful declaration, the rest of the Strawhats were smiling at the scene between them and were feeling just as determined to see Arlong get his dues.
Nami could feel all of that hopelessness drain away, and smiled like the sun at her captain, who happily returned it with his own.
Luffy walked up to Zoro, Usopp, and Sanji; the three had been waiting for Luffy's command to start the battle against Arlong. "Let's go!"
"YEAH!"
"It's your turn, Nami!" Luffy grinned. f
"Show that fish bastard what happens when you make a maiden cry." Sanji said.
"Captain Usopp is giving you his full support!" Usopp exclaimed.
"Don't mess it up and give us our first fail." Zoro added.
"Go, Nami!" Chopper bounced in her lap.
"Good luck, Ms. Navigator." Robin nodded.
"YOSH!" Nami felt energized by everyone's support. She turned to the screen as the level briefing was finally starting up. This time she'd be the one fighting Arlong!
BRIEFING:
VICTORY CONDITIONS: Defeat Arlong!
DEFEAT CONDITIONS: Villagers have been obliterated!
MISSION NO. 1: Defeat Fishman Captain and Company!
"So, our objective here is to protect the village while fighting off the Arlong Pirates." Robin observed.
"Kinda like the previous episodes, but in those we were protecting a single territory. This time if any of the villagers are killed…" Sanji said.
"Then we lose the episode and Arlong wins." Nami grimaced, but her eyes shined with determination. "This time…! I'll protect my home!"
Treasure Event 1: Use Sanji to perform the first strategy within the time limit.
Treasure Event 2: Protect all the villagers.
Treasure Event 3: Use Zoro to defeat Hatchan twice.
Treasure Event 4: Track down Arlong without any of the Straw Hat Pirates fleeing.
Zoro scowled at that last one. "As if any of us would run away!"
"I'm pretty sure that one is talking about Mr. Sharpshooter." Robin clarified.
Usopp flinched when everyone stared at him. "W-why are you looking at me!? As if I'd run away when Nami needs help!"
"You did originally…" Sanji sighed. "Though, you did beat one of Arlong's commanders, so it wasn't too bad."
"Woah! You beat a commander, Usopp!?" Chopper gasped.
"Of course! Captain Usopp is the strongest after all!"
"Wow!"
Nami rolled her eyes and looked back at the list. "Well, we should be able to accomplish two out of the four here. Since I'm playing as Luffy, we can't do either the Zoro or Sanji one."
"We can do them later, right, Nami?" Luffy asked.
She nodded her head, replaying this level shouldn't be too much if she'll have everyone here with her. With all of that settled Nami began the episode to take down Arlong!
LUFFY: "Arlong, you bastard! Get out here!"
ARLONG: "Who's that punk?"
Villagers and Sun Pirates have begun fighting!
VILLAGER: "Crap, are we no match for them!?"
ZORO: "Those villagers are in trouble… I guess I'll clean up over there first."
MISSION START:
Defeat Fishman Captain and company!
"Tch. You better not get lost again, moss-head." Sanji hissed.
"I don't get lost that often, swirly-brow!"
Nami chose to ignore the two and focused on taking down the pirate captains in her way. She did power up Luffy a bit, so hopefully it'll be enough to handle the enemies on this level.
SANJI: "I will filet every single one of those bastards who made Nami-swan cry!"
ZORO: "Those sure are some stuffy bastards…"
Gum-Gum Whip!
Gum-Gum Gatling!
Gum-Gum Rifle!
USOPP: "I'll man the sail! You handle all the fighting!"
"FIGHT, DAMMIT!" Sanji, Zoro, and Nami screamed at Usopp.
With the usage of Zoro's support, Luffy cleared out the rest of the Fishmen Captains quickly.
MISSION SUCCESSFUL!
You successfully defeated Fishman Captain and company!
Villager: "Th-thanks! Who on earth are you?"
SANJI: "Don't worry 'bout it. We really need to get to Arlong though…"
ARLONG: "Brothers! Let's teach these worthless humans how much better the fishmen are!"
Fishman Captain has begun advancing using a Fishman waterway!
USOPP: "They move using canals!? There's nothing we can do!"
"I was curious about the blue marks on the map, but that answers my question. It would seem those passageways are blocked off to us, but the enemies can freely traverse through them." Robin said.
"Now I'm really grateful the actual Arlong Park wasn't built like this. Would've been hell trying to get this idiot through all of that." Sanji pointed at Luffy.
"I would've just swam through it!"
"YOU CAN'T!"
ARLONG: "Ha ha ha ha! Creatures that can't breathe underwater really are pitiful."
Robin hummed. "As much of a disgusting person he is, I truly wonder what happened to make him hate humans so much." Robin wasn't ignorant to the racism that plagued Fishmen, but to enslave an entire village and look down on humans this much had to have started from somewhere.
Chopper frowned at the screen. "Maybe, it's like with me. I was judged because I looked different from all the other reindeer, so perhaps the same happened to Arlong?"
"Even so, that doesn't excuse everything he's done. The bastard can hate humans all he wants, but to hurt people who had no part in whatever he did is wrong and ignorant." Zoro said.
"He made Nami cry. I won't ever forgive someone like him." Luffy added.
No More Time to Play Pirates:
"Ah…! What power…!" Usopp cowered in fear. "I feel sorry for Nami, but I'm really, really glad we're helping her out. Though, I think I'll pass on dying, so I'll be escaping now…" Usopp was about to run off but stopped himself, shame banging against his chest. "...How shameful! If I didn't fight with my full strength! I don't deserve to be on the same ship as those guys. Usopp the man would not run away! Just you watch, I'm gonna fight!"
Usopp continued hyping himself up. "It's not a lie…it's so I can become a true "gallant warrior of the sea"! Though, I'd rather be relaxing right now…!"
"Well I'm done with playing at pirate!"
Luffy grinned proudly at Usopp. "Nice one, Usopp!"
"E-eh?" The Sharpshooter was blushing red after having that scene play out for them all to see.
Sanji couldn't help but admire Usopp's strength to work up the courage to fight, it reminded the chef a lot of himself back when he… no, he wasn't going to think about them. "It takes real courage to continue fighting even when you just want to run away. It's good that you stayed to fight, Usopp."
Usopp tried to hide the tears in his eyes. "O-of course! Captain Usopp will continue to fight until his last breath!"
VILLAGER: "Oh, you seem trustworthy! The switch that stops the canal water is over there."
"I get it! By breaking those switches, we'll be able to stop the canals and get to Arlong!" Nami exclaimed.
"Shishishi! Breaking stuff is what I'm good at!" Luffy declared.
USOPP: "Alright, I'll take care of it!"
Usopp is advancing to the goal to destroy the switch!
MISSION START:
Destroy the switch and unlock the Fishman waterway!
ZORO: "Is he alright by himself?
Support Usopp's advancement!
"I was gonna do that anyway. You never know with Usopp." Nami sighed.
"Take care of some of those captains first, Nami! Usopp doesn't have any around him, but those villagers do!" Chopper pointed out.
"I know, I know!" Nami rolled her eyes.
"Now you know how I feel." Zoro chuckled.
After dealing with the Fishmen Captains, Luffy caught up with Usopp to make sure the Sharpshooter was alright. Thankfully, he hadn't encountered anyone strong on his way to the switch.
Usopp has reached the goal!
USOPP: "That's it! Deadly Lead Star!"
Usopp has destroyed the switch by sniping!
USOPP: "Hey, it looks like I did it! Did you see that, ya bastard!?"
Northeast Floodgate Fort can be entered because the switch was destroyed!
SANJI: "Way to go. Now we can move up."
"Good job pulling that off, Mr. Sharpshooter." Robin complimented him.
"Yeah I-"
"It would've been terrible if a Fishman managed to tear your nose off before you got to it." She giggled.
"HOW IS THAT FUNNY!?"
Sun Pirates have closed Northeast Floodgate Fort and are blocking the advance!
MISSION UPDATE!
Gain control of enemy territory and open the route!
"Get the hell out of my way! Nothing's gonna stop me from taking down Arlong!" Nami roared, she was mashing the buttons on the control, brutally beating down every Fishman that appeared. She used her Zoro Kizuna and blew past the enemies quickly.
"Does that hat turn her into a female Luffy?" Zoro muttered.
"Shishishi! Go, Nami!" Luffy encouraged the violence.
"I'll be taking all of your treasure too!" Nami added as she burst open some chests, happy to see the Beli inside. She and Luffy were laughing maniacally, slightly scaring everyone but Robin.
MISSION SUCCESSFUL!
Northeast Floodgate Fort has been captured and the gates are open!
"Take that!" Nami smiled triumphantly.
Die with Me:
"Nami…? What're you doing here?" Arlong asked.
Nami, with Luffy's hat on her head, glared at Arlong. "I've come to kill you…!"
"To kill me? Ha ha ha ha! How many times have you tried? And how many times have you failed!?" Arlong mocked her. "Now, I'm gonna kill every last human here, aside from you… If you say you'll join our crew again and draw sea charts for us, then I'll save the ones from Cocoyashi Village." Arlong laid out his proposition. "Nami…! Will you join my crew? Or will you remain on that pirate crew?"
"But that's… If I say I'm with Luffy's crew, they'll be killed. But if I say I'm on your crew, you'll save them…?" Nami carefully mulled over his words. "My words determine their fate…! But I… I don't want to doubt the fact that they said they'd save me!"
"I think the answer's pretty obvious…" Nami said to her counterpart.
"Sorry, everyone! You're going to have to die with me!"
A surge of pride swept through Luffy's chest. "And like hell I'm gonna let anyone die! We're gonna kick Arlong's ass, right!?"
"YOSH!" His crew responded.
Nami has appeared!
Villagers are inspired by Nami's call!
ARLONG: "By resisting us, your fate has not changed in the slightest!"
Sun Pirates have now begun advancing to Straw Hat Pirates!
NAMI: "The enemy reinforcements won't stop! Let's attack from behind land!"
MISSION START:
Gain control of enemy territory and support allies!
Defeat Conditions have changed!
USOPP: "Alright, you can count on me for covering fire!"
Usopp has begun advancing to gain control of enemy territory!
"Wow, I'm surprised to see you taking the initiative, Mr. Sharpshooter." Robin smiled.
"Nami's counting on us! Of course I'm going to give it my all!" Usopp declared, though it was obvious that even if it wasn't him, he was still scared.
Nami smiled at Usopp. "Thanks, Usopp."
"Can you thank me, Nami-swan!?" Sanji swooned.
"Eh. Thanks."
"AAHHH! So lovely~!"
ZORO: "Don't forget to protect the villagers!"
Fishman Captain has now appeared from West Wharf!
Sun Pirates have closed Guardhouse and are blocking the advance!
HATCHAN: "Nyu! I don't know what they're here for, but I won't let them do as they please!"
"Of course, he's the only one of them to show up." Zoro complained. No wonder the Treasure Event specified him to defeat someone.
"How many others were there?" Chopper asked.
"Three commanders under Arlong. Moss-head, Usopp, and I took out those three, leaving Arlong for Luffy." Sanji answered.
Nami sighed. "Well… Hatchi was the least bad out of them. Not that he helped me in any way, but he wasn't as evil."
Guardhouse has been captured and the gates are open!
HATCHAN: "They won't even make it to Arlong! I'll wipe the floor with them!"
Hatchan has begun advancing towards the Straw Hat Pirates!
"Would be a good idea to not let him get near the village." Usopp said.
"Looks like he's moving towards the Guardhouse, Nami-swan." Sanji watched the map.
"Then, I'll cut him off there." Nami said.
Marines have appeared!
CANNON CREW CAPTAIN: "Get those rampaging bastards!"
Marines have started a barrage on Straw Hat Pirates!
"Are you freaking kidding me!? They're all over the village!" Nami cried. "Those damned Marines!"
NAMI: "Those damned Marines ("I hear ya, sister!" Nami yelled) have been working with Arlong… ! I won't forgive them!'
Nami is advancing towards the Cannon Crew Captain!
Defeat Cannon Crew Captain and stop the Barrage!
Make sure Nami doesn't flee!
"I'm gonna stop the Cannon Crew first!" Nami headed back for the village, attacking the Cannon Crew Captains.
"What about Hatchi?" Usopp asked.
"I think he'll be sitting at the Guardhouse trying to take it back and Zoro's counterpart is also down there. That's more than enough time to-"
Usopp is about to flee!
Usopp cowered in fear as Nami's furious gaze desired to melt him into the floor. "AAAHHH! I'M SORRY! DON'T KILL ME!"
She bashed him on the head once with the controller, before rushing over to his counterpart and saving him from getting killed. Once that was done Nami ignored Hatchan in favor of finishing off the Cannon Crew.
Defeat the remaining Cannon Cannon Crew Captain and stop the barrage!
Gum-Gum Whip!
Gum-Gum Pistol!
Gum-Gum Axe!
Gum-Gum Gatling Gun!
Cannon Crew Captain has been defeated and the Barrage has stopped!
ARLONG: "Hmph, they're useless."
"The village is safe. Now to take care of Hatchi." Nami said as she ran back down to the Guardhouse."
West Wharf has been captured and the gates are open!
"Nice, Usopp!" Chopper exclaimed.
"Yosh! Captain Usopp to the rescue!" Usopp soaked up the praise.
"After almost screwing us over." Nami sighed. That was two territories down, which meant all she had to do was beat Hatchi and get the middle one. The fight with Hatchi wasn't as difficult as she thought, she pounded on him with relentless attacks before nailing him with a Kizuna Rush.
HATCHAN: "Nnnyu! This isn't the end, you know!"
Hatchan withdraws temporarily!
"Trust me, I wish it was over." Zoro sighed.
Nami quickly moved to the third territory, capturing it without much hassle with everything else having already been taken care of.
MISSION SUCCESSFUL!
Successfully gained control of enemy territory!
SANJI: "Now we've got a strong footing… Let's go and take down Arlong!"
"I wonder what's going to be tossed at us next?" Chopper asked.
"Whatever it is, we'll be fine!" Luffy reassured him.
The path to Arlong, via the Fishman waterway, is inaccessible!
NAMI: "There are 3 switches for this canal! We need to break all to get in!"
ZORO: "We'll keep the weak guys in check! Do what you can while we fight!"
MISSION START:
Open a route to Arlong Tower!
"From what I can see there are two accessible exclamation points on the map. Ms. Navigator it would be smart to choose which one to pick now." Robin said.
Nami made her decision without issue. "I'll go for the bottom right one."
"Why?" Luffy asked.
"Call it a woman's intuition." Nami winked.
"More like a demon's intuition." Zoro muttered until Nami smacked him with the controller. "Dammit, woman!"
ARLONG: "Do it! Tear 'em to shreds!"
Fishman Captain and company have opened the gates to advance!
USOPP: "Okay, I'll take one!"
Usopp is advancing to the goal to destroy the switch!
Make sure Usopp doesn't flee!
"I was right!" Nami congratulated herself.
"Wow, Nami! Your demon's intuition was right-GAH!" Luffy choked as Nami bonked him on the head.
"THAT'S NOT WHAT I CALLED IT!"
Fishman Captain has now appeared from East Central Canal Fort!
Attack and destroy the switch!
Nami did just that after taking out two Fishman Captains, but it seemed that Usopp was being held up by a captain and a villager was in danger of getting killed by another one. "Damn, why can't this be easy!"
"Only losers complain about difficulty." Zoro said.
"Shut up!" She hissed.
The navigator hurried over to the villager that was about to get killed and saved him. She took down the captain with a Gum-Gum Rifle. Then assisted Usopp, so that he could reach the goal.
Usopp has reached the goal!
USOPP: "I'll show you what I can do! Eat this!"
Usopp has destroyed 1 switch by snipping!
The Fishman waterway to Arlong Tower is accessible!
USOPP: "Did you see that!? I did it! I broke a switch!"
NAMI: "Nice job, Usopp! I'll do what I can, too!"
Nami has begun advancing to destroy the remaining switches!
"Wait, there are more switches?" Luffy tilted his head.
"Yes, but Nami-swan will have to get through this territory to break the last one." Sanji answered.
Nami focused up, since their goal of reaching Arlong was extremely close. "Arlong…"
NAMI: "Now, let's move up and crush those guys!"
TERRITORY CAPTURED!
East Central Canal Fort has been captured and the gates are open!
"Time for that last switch!" Usopp exclaimed.
Destroyed 1 switch!
Part of the Fishman waterway is now accessible!
Destroyed all the switches!
LUFFY: "Now we can beat Arlong senseless! Let's go!"
Head to Arlong Tower and defeat Arlong!
"I'm coming for you, Arlong!" Nami glared at the screen. However, they had forgotten about Hatchan as the Fishman reappeared, blocking their path to Arlong. "Oh, right…"
"Just kick his ass already!" Zoro yelled.
HATCHAN: "I'm not gonna let you get to Arlong!"
Hatchan is defending West Central Canal Fort!
Defeat Hatchan and open the gates at West Central Canal Fort!
Nami found this fight a little tougher than the first, but managed to pull through it all the same. She didn't want to use her Kizuna yet, but decided to just blast it to get Hatchan out of the way.
Luffy defeated Hatchan!
HATCHAN: "How? …How could humans…"
West Central Canal Fort has been captured and the gates are open!
ZORO: "Sorry, but you're not worth my time."
MISSION SUCCESSFUL!
With Hatchan's defeat, Nami made her way to the gates of Arlong Tower, and was ready to beat Arlong senseless. "It's time."
"Yosh! Kick his ass, Nami!" Luffy encouraged her.
"Right!" She exclaimed.
The gates to Arlong Park were blasted open by Luffy, taking the relaxing Fishman captain by surprise. "Which one of you is Arlong?" Luffy asked.
"Arlong…? That's my name." Arlong answered as Luffy approached him.
"I'm Luffy."
"Luffy, eh? …And who are you, exactly?"
"A pirate." Luffy answered, simply.
"And what does a pirate want with me?" Arlong asked. As soon as he did, Luffy punched him in the jaw, sending the Fishman flying into the wall of Arlong Park.
The Fishman stood up, pissed that a human dared to lay a hand on him. "What are you…"
"DON'T YOU MAKE MY NAVIGATOR CRY!" Luffy declared
Nami couldn't stop the smile that grew on her face after hearing those words. "Your navigator? I don't mind that at all, Luffy." She felt the rim of the strawhat before focusing up on the boss battle against Arlong.
MISSION START:
Defeat Arlong!
LUFFY: "I've come to kick your ass!"
ARLONG: "Quiet, scum! We were on different levels from the moment we were born!"
Gum-Gum pistol!
Gum-Gum Gatling!
Gum-Gum Cannon!
Gum-Gum Rain!
Her crewmates were pumped with excitement as she beat down Arlong's first health bar. The navigator got past the easy part, now the 2nd phase started.
ARLONG: "Give it up. You're out of tricks."
Arlong attempted to skewer Luffy by ramming into him like a shark. But the character dodged out of the way each time. Arlong was now open for the attack!
Gum-Gum Cannon!
Gum-Gum Bell!
Gum-Gum Gatling Gun!
Gum-Gum Rain!
The second health bar was down!
TING!
TREASURE EVENT!
Captain's Vessel:
"Humans are a stupid, weak, and foolish species! What are you fools even capable of!?" Arlong yelled, mocking Luffy's efforts.
Luffy wasn't offended at all. "I can't do anything, so I need the help! I can't handle a sword! I can't navigate a ship! I can't cook! Or lie!" Luffy listed off. "I'm pretty confident that without all the help I've gotten, I wouldn't be alive now!" He declared.
"Is that true, Luffy!?" Chopper turned to his captain.
"Yosh! A crew isn't just the captain, Chopper. Without all of you guys I won't be able to achieve my dream of becoming the Pirate King! Friends are important, because we can all help each other achieve our dreams!" Luffy explained, proudly.
"I'll do my best, Luffy!" Chopper exclaimed.
Usopp shrunk down a bit. "Is lying really the best I can do?" He didn't notice Sanji giving him a quick glance, having noticed his behavior.
"Ha ha ha ha ha! At least you're upfront about your uselessness. Quite the honest man. For some useless idiot like you to be Captain, you must certainly cause a bunch of trouble for your crew!" Arlong laughed. "All you've got is this pride and yet you're supposed to be the captain of the world's best ship!? What can you even do!?"
"I can kick your ass!" Luffy declared.
"Kicking ass is what I'm good at! Especially when it comes to bastards like you!" Luffy shouted.
"He may be an idiot sometimes, but there's nobody else I'd rather entrust my dreams with but Luffy. He's a better captain than you could ever hope to be." Nami declared. The navigator was ready to end this fight for good!
LUFFY: "I'll tear apart your place at Arlong, so that you'll never come back!"
ARLONG: "Don't push your luck! As if you punks could bring down the mighty Arlong Park!"
Gum-Gum Cannon!
Gum-Gum Rain!
Gum-Gum Whip!
Gum-Gum Axe!
Gum-Gum Gatling!
Amidst the onslaught the Kizuna Rush was activated.
CAN YOU CALL ME A CREW MATE?
GUM-GUM…!
THREE-SWORD…!
THAT'S BAD MANNERS!
SPECIAL!
OVERSIZED CANNON!
Arlong's health was blasted down to 0, ending the battle with the Straw Hats' victory!
"YOSHA!" The crew shouted as Nami gave the ultimate finish. Robin clapped her hands, happy for the crew.
Inside of Arlong Tower, Luffy rushed Arlong and grabbed the Fishman's long nose. "I finally know how to save her…!" He pulled back his leg and shot it like a bullet into Arlong's gut. Arlong's nose was broken, pointing in a different direction, he glared hatefully at the human who dealt him this humiliation.
"It's because of this place that she can't…!" Luffy extended his leg to the sky, breaking through the roof of the tower. "I'll destroy any and every place that she doesn't want to be!"
Nami's eyes widened after hearing Luffy's declaration. The navigator couldn't remember a time when Luffy had sounded so angry. As if Arlong had committed the biggest sin known to man.
Then she realized that Arlong had committed a grave sin. The Fishman had stripped her of her freedom, humiliated her, and treated her as nothing more than a tool. In Luffy's eyes, losing your freedom was worse than death and there was no way in hell he'd ever allow someone to get away with that. Especially towards one of his crewmates…
His friends.
Arlong corrected his nose. "Don't get cock, you inferior human!" He blasted himself towards Luffy, like a shark torpedo.
"GUM-GUM…!"
Arlong sunk his teeth into Luffy's sides, but the captain was undeterred. "BATTLE AXE!" His foot smashed into Arlong's back, shattering the Fishman's spine in one hit. He was blasted through every floor of the tower and Luffy had no intention of stopping. "AAAAAAHHHHH!" With one final push, Arlong crashed into the bottom floor and Luffy stood victorious.
"WAY TO GO, LUFFY!"
"LUFFY, YOU MAGNIFICENT BASTARD!"
"Heh, so that's what happened." Zoro smirked.
"As always, he has to make an impact." Robin chuckled.
Arlong Tower soon collapsed from the battle that had taken place inside of it, signifying the freedom of Cocoyashi Village. Luffy, unharmed from the rubble, stood on top of the ruined tower. "NAMI! YOU'RE MY NAKAMA!"
Nami couldn't stop the happy tears leaking from her face. "...Yeah!"
"Arlong park has fallen!" A village cried.
"It's finally over, Bell-mere… It took 8 years, but everyone is finally free!"
TO BE CONTINUED!
Luffy looked over at Nami, noticing that she was shaking. "Eh? Nami, what's wrong? Are you cold-" He stopped when she wrapped him up in a tight hug. Tears were once again falling from her face as she did so. Her actions shocked the others.
"Thank you… Luffy."
Luffy returned the gesture. "You're my friend."
"...Yeah."
Robin watched as Zoro, Usopp, and Chopper held Sanji back from committing a mutiny. The archaeologist turned to the captain and navigator, who had broken apart and were now arguing over something. She could make out the sounds of "meat" and "money" coming from the two. Robin couldn't help but admire the lengths Luffy would go just to protect his friends. She had seen it in Alabasta, the confrontation with Bellamy, and at Skypiea. She played with the thought of what if Luffy would go to the same lengths for her…
The archaeologist shook her head, dismissing it. There was no way that would be possible, doing so would mean making the entire World Government their enemy. Fighting a pirate crew in the East Blue didn't compare to that at all.
Her destiny was death and not life.
Chapter End
NOTE: I hope you all enjoyed! Yeah, I didn't show Nami's results, those will be in the next chapter. I just felt like they'd get in the way of the ending for this chapter. I really love Arlong Park Arc and Luffy and Nami's moment of her asking for her help is still my favorite moment in the series.
Robin and Usopp are going through it at this point. Do remember this is right before Water 7, so they're a bit more self-conscious of their problems and the game is just throwing it at them.
Have a great day!
