A Whole New World
Legends Become the New Reality Part II
Stirring awake, Shippo looked around. He noticed that he was still in his 'mothers' friends arms and he was a little surprised. Even Sango and Miroku had given him to Kagome once he had fallen asleep. Though in this particular moment, he didn't quite mind being left in the arms he fell asleep in. She smells nice. Odd for a human but she does come from where Kagome is from. Enjoying the sense of peace he was feeling at the moment, Shippo didn't see, hear or feel someone approaching them. He did, however, feel the stiffness in the air once Kagome had realized who it was for she too didn't see him coming.
"I need to talk to you. Alone."
The moment she noticed who had been walking towards her and her friends, she stilled. She had been mad at him when he just showed up at her house, though she may not be mad now, she was confused. How was she going to tell him that she no longer wished to travel with him? How was she going to explain that she needed a real break from him? That she didn't want to see him right now? That she was breaking her promise to him? What scared her most, because of his temper, was how he was going to react to the fact that she was leaving to track his brother down.
"What about?" she asked, trying not to look him in the eye.
"Its personal."
Kagome thought for a moment. Since she didn't want to be alone with him, she was silently hoping her friend wouldn't leave her.
Looking to the little fox demon she said, "Shippo why don't you go look for Kaede and the others and see if they need any help with getting things ready?" He hesitantly nodded and hopped from his spot in Yuriko's arms, running towards the old womans hut.
"Her too."
"No. She can stay. If you don't like it, then I guess we don't talk."
He grunted and said, "Keh, fine. I'm bringing Kikyo into the group and I don't want any arguments either. We could use another person who knows how to fight, doesn't need to be constantly protected and can see the shard for when you run off home, cryin' about those damn tests." he paused. "I also wanted to say that nothin woulda ever happened between us. I love Kikyo, not you. She's better when it comes to comparing strength too and I need someone that can fight with me and not sit on the sidelines."
She knew the truth. She knew the whole time that Inuyasha never loved her and never could. Even with her knowing, it still stung a little when he admitted it out loud. She felt like she wanted to cry but she wasn't sure if it was out of grief or happiness that she could be free to do what she wanted without hearing about it. If she was going to cry, she wasn't going to do it in front of him.
"There's no argument Inuyasha." she paused. "Since you're bringing it up about her, I can tell you this without feeling guilty."
"Tell me what?"
"I'm leaving."
Twitch. "Why?"
"I don't want to be around someone who wants to drag my friend to hell with her and your attitude is driving me crazy! I know things here are different Inuyasha but where I'm from, women have freedom. They don't need to clear it with a guy on where they're going and who they're going with. I'm going to travel on my own with Yuriko and Shippo. I don't know if the others are gonna wanna come but I'm not going to try and convince them either since they're your friends too." This time she looked at him and she noticed that his eyes were downcast. "There's one more thing."
He looked up at her, waiting for her to continue.
"I'm goin to find Sesshomaru."
"WHAT?! Why in the seven hells are you goin to look for that stupid bastard?"
"Because Inuyasha if Sango and Miroku decide not to come with me, I'm gonna need a little more protection. And I think he might be able to help Yuriko."
"Help her with what? She's human and he ain't gonna help her."
"You don't know that and it's worth a shot."
"What does she need help with anyways?" he asked. He noticed there was hesitation in her eyes.
"What I need his help for is none of your concern."
Kagome looked at her with thankful eyes. She didn't want to tell him her business and if she did answer him, she probably would have.
"It does concern me when it involves that asshole and Kagome."
Now she wasn't too familiar with how demons worked but if they were anything like humans, when you have claim on another person, you don't need to worry about someone you wanted nothing to do with. Especially if he flat out told her that he didn't love her like that.
"See that's where you're wrong. You flat out told her that you didn't love her, that you wanted another woman. You could worry about her safety, seeing as you're just friends you don't have a right to worry who she goes to see. The only possible concern you should show is for your brother and from what I've heard, you two don't have a very good relationship."
Twitch twitch. "Listen here wench. I-"
"No Inuyasha. She's right. You chose Kikyo, not me."
Inuyasha let what Kagome was saying sink in. She was leaving him for his egotistical, stupid half-brother. She was supposed to always be there for him. Help him find the shards. Yea, he chose Kikyo but he knew that Kagome would always be there waiting. She was his friend. He knew he couldn't love her, and protect her, the way she needed but he still didn't want her going to his damned half-brother.
Growling low enough for her not to hear, he finally spoke up. "Fine. Do whatever you want. But don't come crawlin' back to me when he turns you down wench." Having said what he needed to, Inuyasha turned and took off to the forest in which his undead lover waited.
Kagome watched as he ran. Saying what she did hurt her heart a little bit but what he had said made it feel as if it was slowly breaking. She sniffled, holding back tears she didn't want to shed and turned to her silent friend.
Yuriko watched the entire thing between them and though she didn't plan on saying anything, she did. She had no idea how someone could be so dense towards another person and why he was so curious in someone else's business. Especially since he doesn't know me at all.
When she noticed the way Kagome had looked at her when he had left, it broke her heart. Never had she ever seen her look that sad. The look was almost haunting. It was her coming to terms that something she had wished for would never be and that someone she considered a friend had more or less said to never come back.
It hurt and she knew it.
"Are you okay Kagome? Do you wanna go back home?"
"Hm? No I'm fine. We should go though. I'm sure the others are wondering where I am and are eager to meet you."
Yuriko nodded and began following Kagome.
When both of them had reached Kaedes hut, the first to greet them was none other than the slayer Kagome had considered as a sister.
"Oh, Kagome. I was just coming to look for you. Shippo had said Inuyasha had wanted to talk to you." She nodded. "So you know what he plans to do then?" Another nod.
Feeling bad for her, she stepped a little closer and enveloped her dear friend in a great hug.
Pulling apart after a moment, Sango turned her attention to the newcomer.
"Hello, I am Sango. Who are you?"
"My name is Yuriko Akiyama, it's a pleasure to meet you."
"Same to you. Are you a close friend of Kagomes?" she asked and Yuriko nodded. "Well, come inside so you can meet the others." And with that she led them inside.
Yuriko was the last to enter and as she did, she heard 'welcome back Kagome'. What she didn't expect was a very inappropriate question coming at her and someone holding her hands.
"My you are a beautiful young lady if I do say so myself. Might I ask a favor of you? Will you bear my children?"
She blinked. Did she really hear what she thought she heard?
Before she could let the shock wear off and actually ask if that really had been what was said, she heard a loud smack.
"Are you serious Miroku? Geez. And I thought you had stopped that nonsense."
"My dear Sango it is my nature to ask such beautiful young ladies, like yourself, if they would bear me a child. I will die someday from this curse and I wish to have at least one child." He began to panic when she started walking away. "Please do not be upset!" She didn't hear the last part for she was too far away.
Kagome shook her head at the monk. How can he be so clueless as to how she feels? Does he not see how upset she gets when he does that? "Miroku."
He turned towards her. "Yes Lady Kagome?"
"Do you not realize how she feels about you and why she gets so upset when you ask other women such stupid questions?"
He thought for a moment. Maybe what she said was true. He can remember all those times that she had slapped him for asking that same question to every woman he came across. But it didn't make sense. If she was so upset about him asking other woman, and groping them too, why did she get mad when he groped her as well? He considered asking Kagome but thought against it. After all, he didn't need two woman mad at him.
Turning his attention back to the young woman, he said, "I do apologize for my behavior. Will you forgive me?" She nodded her head. "I am Miroku, and who do I have the pleasure of meeting?"
"Yuriko Akiyama."
"Very nice to meet you. I will have to get to know you a little later. I have some personal business to handle." And with that he walked out of the hut, following after Sango.
"I hope that she's not too hard on him." Kagome sighed. Her friend can be a little oblivious at times but she hoped that when he talked to her, she would see that he truly does care for her.
"They will be fine child. Do not worry." Kaede spoke up and then motioned for them all to come sit down. "I see ye have brought another friend along with you."
"Hm? Yea, I did. She was hoping to get some research done for something and I thought here would be the best place."
"What kind of research Kagome? Is it like the stuff you do?" Shippo asked.
Kagome giggled and said, "No, its a little different that." She then looked to Yuriko, hoping she would explain knowing she could do it better than she could. So she explained what had happened to her.
Kaede thought for a moment. "I am sorry child, I do not know how to help ye. It would be better to ask Miroku."
Sighing, Yuriko said her thanks, stood up and walked out. She knew she couldn't blame the old woman for not knowing anything but it still didn't stop her from being a little angry.
In all honesty, no matter how pretty and peaceful it was here, she didn't want to be here for too long but now that she knew that Kaede knew nothing, she'd have to seek out that Sesshomaru guy. I wonder what he's like. Kagome said he was mean and that he hates humans. His name literally means Killing Perfection so maybe it's true. I don't know, just by his name I can tell that he's not that bad of a guy. Like seriously, what kind of asshole demon lets a human child follow him around? None. He probably would've just eaten her or killed her.
When she focused back on reality and not on her thoughts, Yuriko noticed she had walked pretty far from the village but not too far from the Well. At least it won't be a problem getting back. Finding a nice shady tree to sit under, she walked over and sat down. She didn't want to go back just yet so she leaned against the tree and closed her eyes to rest her mind. As she dozed off into a light sleep, she began dreaming of the man with golden eyes.
Unbeknownst to her, a golden pair so similar to ones she was dreaming of, had stopped to watch her. Questioning the odd creature before him.
