A Whole New World
Something A Little Unexpected
"I believe this is yours."
She watched as he walked away. When he had walked completely out of sight, she looked down to her hand. She was curious to be honest. Why had such a small thing bothered him? It's not like it actually hurt him or anything.
Deciding not to think about it any further, she turned back to her spot by the water.
What she did think about however, as she sat down, was how she would ask him, again, what he knew or how he was expecting to help her. He did say that he would have to wait and see when I woke up in the morning. I don't see why he'd have to wait but I guess it's worth the wait it if it'll help.
Letting out a loud sigh, she stood right back up and headed back to camp. Better try and get some sleep. The sooner I sleep, the sooner I wake up and the sooner I wake up, the sooner we find something out.
Finally reaching camp, Yuriko noticed that the little girl had curled further into the dragon and that the small, annoying little demon seemed to be asleep as well just on the other side of her. When she looked around for Sesshomaru, she also noticed that he was not there. I wonder where he went. I assumed that after he left me, he would have come back here but I guess not. Momma always said never to assume. Giggling at her own little joke, she sat down in front of her tree and opened up the blanket. Thankfully for her, it was big enough that she was able to use some of it for a pillow.
Taking one last look around, she closed her eyes and soon drifted off.
Hours after she had fallen asleep, Sesshomaru had strolled back in to camp, setting his next course of action to sit up against his tree. After he had left her earlier, he patrolled the area making sure it was safe for Rin, setting a perimeter around his camp to warn the lesser demons to stay away.
While he was walking around, he began thinking. What would he do if it turned out he really could help her? How would he help her? Why had she really asked him? Did anything she told him have anything truth to it? Usually, a living being gives off many scents, one for each emotion they feel and the natural scent they are born with. If she were lying he would have known.
A humans natural scent is death. He could smell it on Rin, though it did change when she had scented soaps to wash with but the smell never completely went away. His half-brothers miko seemed to be an exception, with hers being mixed of earth and roses. The other exception was this girl.
This girl who had come to him for his help, smelled of lily's and rain. Odd for a human. When he thought about her scent, it seemed familiar to him. Though he couldn't figure out why, but it did.
Sesshomaru had come across many scents, belonging to a number of youkai, all uniquely different. Not one demon had the same, unless they were of the same youkai group. Then they shared a common smell. Inuyoukai had a rain scent. If he hadn't known any better, he would think the human females were youkai. Instead, it would seem that humans developed a natural scent after learning to bathe properly.
One other thing that would make him think that the girl in his camp was youkai, were her eyes. They weren't necessarily brown, but not quite amber either. They looked like a dark honey color. It was most certainly not something he had ever seen from another human. A normal humans eye color was dirt brown.
The hanyou had an amber color to his eyes and he himself had a golden honey color. It could be some type of breeding that had caused her to have a color so close to his. He would have to ask her in the morning.
She is indeed a strange human.
With that last thought, he slipped into a light sleep. Very aware he would have to deal with his brother in the morning. Something he was not looking forward to.
The first thing she heard as she began to stir in the morning, which was more than likely closer to noon, was the sound of clashing metal. One would except to hear birds in the morning, not clanking metal. Yuriko uncovered herself as she sat up to rub the sleep out of her eyes.
Taking a look around camp she noticed that Kagome and her friends were in the clearing where they had set up camp for the night. Before she started to stand so she could stretch, she also noticed that Sesshomaru wasn't there. She could have sworn she saw him come back in the middle of the night.
I suppose he did come back, maybe he just left again? Maybe he left me? That couldn't be true because she saw that his companions were still here. Though I don't really know him, but surely he wouldn't have left them behind?
Shaking her head, she stood completely and stretched her sore muscles. Sleeping on the ground was not a good idea, ever.
Walking towards her friend, Kagome had to catch herself as she was almost pushed to the ground by little orange blurs. Yes it was normal for kids to run around and play, but she did wish they would watch where they were going sometimes. As she got closer, she gave her a smile as she greeted her.
"Good morning."
I guess I was wrong about it being in the afternoon. Smiling in return, she said, "Oh, morning Kagome. Have you by any chance seen Sesshomaru?"
Frowning, she turned towards the clanking noise that could be heard off in the distance. "Yea. When Inuyasha caught wind that Sesshomaru was near, he ran out of Kaedes hut. We ran after him but when we caught up they were already insulting one another."
"But where is he now?"
"Well, they wanted to fight here, while you and Rin were still sleeping. I managed to convince them to move away from here so they wouldn't wake you guys." She thought for a moment. "Come to think of it. They've been goin at it for about an hour now, so they might finally decide to give up and come back."
A snort could be heard from behind them. "As if my lord would give up in any battle, let alone one with a hanyou!"
The next thing they knew, a rock was being thrown at his head. "Jaken."
"Y-yes milord?"
"Be silent." Knowing better than to say anything else, he quickly shut his mouth.
"Uh, Sesshomaru, where is Inuyasha?" Kagome asked.
Before he could respond, said person came walking through the woods. "I'm right here wench." He grunted, planting himself at the bottom of the nearest tree.
Kagome could see that he had obviously gotten the brunt of their petty argument but that was nothing new. Everyone knew Sesshomaru was stronger and yet he had to go and pick fights with him every time he came around. Pointless really. And to think he could save himself the pain if he learned to keep his stupid comments to himself. Sighing to herself, she walked towards the injured hanyou to make sure he wouldn't need any stitches.
Rin, seeing that her lord had come back, stopped her game of tag with Shippo and ran towards him. "Lord Sesshomaru!" she squealed, crashing into his leg.
Putting a hand on her head, he asked, "Did you behave?"
"Yes milord." She looked up at him with a big toothy grin, let go of his leg and then proceeded to run to her new friend.
Yuriko held out her arms and picked the little girl up with a smile, setting her on her hip. "Good morning Rin."
"Good morning Yuriko. Can we fish today like you promised? Please?"
Yuriko laughed at her eagerness. "Of course we can so long as its ok with Sesshomaru." Both girls looked to him for approval, hoping he would say yes.
With a slight nod of his head, Rin squealed once again. "Alright, we'll go in a little bit ok. I want to talk to Kagome before we leave." With a quick "ok" from the little girl, she hopped down and started her game of tag once again.
Hoping to avoid an angry Inuyasha, she opted for calling out to her friend instead of walking towards her. "Hey Kagome?" Hearing her name being called, she looked up. "Can I talk to you for a sec?"
"Yea, sure." She stood, dusting off her skirt and made her way over. "Is everything ok?"
"Uh, I suppose so. You remember what we talked about back home, right?" Nodding her head yes, she continued. "Are you gonna go through with it? I don't think we're gonna be around much longer."
"Oh," she looked to Inuyasha and then back to her, "has he said anything about leaving soon?"
She shook her head, "No, but he doesn't exactly seem like the type of guy to just sit in one place."
"That's true."
She just had to think. How could she bring up the subject of her leaving, especially when it was hopefully with the demon he just got done fighting with? Inuyasha always had a temper but maybe it wouldn't be so bad once she mentioned that he could finally go be with Kikyo. Even if he didn't argue about her leaving, if Sesshomaru didn't want her traveling with him, she would either have to travel with just her friends, or look for Kouga. She hoped he wouldn't be so cold hearted. She really didn't want to travel Kouga and if they came to be in a really dangerous situation, her and her friends might not be able to get out of it by themselves. There was a lot to think about and she would have to consider all options.
Sighing once again, she turned and made her way to sit next to Sango. Maybe later tonight I can talk to Sango and see what she thinks. She always knows what to do and has great advice too. I suppose we can talk to Miroku too. He may be perverted but he is pretty wise.
Deciding to sit down herself, Yuriko made her way over to where she had slept last night. When she turned around though, she saw someone else sitting in her seat.
She honestly just wanted to sit down where she had left her blanket but putting up a fight over one stupid little spot wasn't worth it, especially since he could be the one to help her. As she walked past him, he stopped her.
"I need to speak with you."
"What about?"
"The color of your eyes is strange for a human." Well isn't he blunt?
Sitting down in a spot close to him, she asked, "Why does my eye color seem strange to you?"
"Humans do not have the color you have. Youkais are the only ones I have seen to have anything different."
She thought for a moment. She never really thought it odd because her whole family had different hues of brown. But she did notice that Kagome and her friends, even Rin, had a muddy brown color. Maybe it was strange or maybe it was just a trait inherited from a distant family member.
Bringing herself out of her thoughts, she said, "Maybe it is a little strange now that I think about it. I never really paid attention before because my entire family has a different shade of brown, but the colors are really close, except my mom, my little sister and I." she paused. "Do you think maybe that it has something to do with the weird dreams I've been having lately?"
"Hn." Sometimes he seems so talkative and then he just stops. Just like that!
"Oh!" she exclaimed, nearly startling the youkai next to her. "I almost forgot. In one of the dreams that I had, there were two little kids in it. Both had silver hair, just like the man did. One of the kids was a little boy and the other a little girl. The little boy though had golden eyes, exactly like the man had." she paused again. "But the way it played out, it felt more like a memory than just a dream."
Children with silver hair, one matching the description of the man she mentioned before. Most certainly an odd dream.
He thought for another moment. He knew someone who would know every demon matching the ones she described, but was reluctant to tell her. He really didn't want to deal with his mother.
Sesshomaru turned his head towards Rin, watching her play, as he said, "My mother should know of whom you speak of. We will visit her tomorrow."
His mother? A little confused, she simply nodded her head at what he said. At least it's something. Content that they were finally getting somewhere, she laid back in the grass and closed her eyes. It didn't seem like they were moving anytime soon so she might as well enjoy softness of the grass while she still could.
I am a terrible person! You guys I am so sorry! Writers block has been really bad and it seems to get worse when depression hits. I was also dealing with some personal problems too so it was a little hard to concentrate on trying to give you guys something. I'm sure this chapter isn't so great but I tried! Still, please enjoy this chapter. If you like it, review. If you're new and you like it, follow. I promise to give you guys a new chapter in a week, maybe sooner depending on how fast my brain works. Again you guys I'm sorry, I'm gonna try and work hard for you!
