5 year old Maddie Vex was sleeping, it was a normal Friday night during summer and she was wearing shorts and a t-shirt with the hot weather. Through her slumber she could hear a low snarling coming from outside, unsettling her dreams but not waking her completely.
Meanwhile downstairs Trinity Smith was frantically calling someone she hadn't called in years, and firmly believed she would never have to ever again. But tonight was different, tonight a new band of Savages had emerged and were targeting her house. So with a heavy heart she dialled the number of Grand Mage Hopeless, her dad.
"Dad" she whispered. Aware of the heightened senses of the ... The animals surrounding her. " Trinity, trinity is that you? " he answered. Usually Hopeless was not a fan of midnight phone calls but his only daughter whom he hadn't heard from for over 7 years he could make an exception for. "Daddy" she paused "it's the savages, they're outside my house. I've got a daughter , it's dexters, she's only 5. She CAN'T die, she's bright. Brighter than I was , she deserves a future" trinity paused again "please daddy help us"
Hopeless was shocked, he had a granddaughter. It was Dexters, that son of a bi... Right not the time. Just as he was about to answer there was a laugh, no not a laugh this sound was full of evil...of savage. A laugh of a monster that was about to kill, and enjoy it. He heard his child scream and then the phone cut off. Fuck.
Maddie woke up whimpering, she could hear screaming. It sounded like her mummy but her mummy never got scared, did she? Slowly, without making a sound Maddie slipped out of bed and crept to get doorway. There was a man standing in her kitchen, only he didn't look like a man. He had a hunched back, long scraggly hair, teeth like werewolf and eyes like a vampire. She slowly stepped back into her room and grabbed a pair of trainers, pulling a light jumper over her head she climbed out her window into the garden. She didn't want to leave her mummy but she was scared of that man, running quickly to the front of her house she ducked under the kitchen window and took a deep breath. Turning around and using the ledge to support herself Maddie hoisted herself up and peeked into the kitchen only to scream at what she saw. Her mummy was lying across the counter while one of the scary men had ripped open her stomach and was eating her alive.
Trinity locked eyes with the small figure standing outside the window and with her last bit of energy screamed "Run, Maddie" and that's what Maddie did.
