Chapter 1: The Secret
Severus Snape sat under an oak tree at the old quiet park reading a book waiting for his best friend Lily Evans. They had met one day at this very same park when Severus had seen Lily and her sister Petunia (who was a bossy, horse faced, annoyance) swinging on the swings. He had seen that like him Lily had magical abilities and after a while she had begun to trust him and they became best friends.
Although Severus sort of hoped that in the future they could become more than friends. Since the day they met Severus had been in love with Lily.
Suddenly he looked up Lily was running towards him her long dark red hair flowed behind her as she ran. "Hi Sev whats up?" she had sat down next to him and was examining the book he was reading. "Whatcha reading?" she asked
" The Wizard of Oz" he replied his eyes still fixed on his book. "Oh I've read that before that's a really good story." Lily said standing up " but do I really have to sit here and watch you read?" she said impatiently "alright alright I'm almost done." He finished reading the last few words on his page and stode up
" You told me you wanted me to meet someone?" Lily asked "Well yes and it was more of because they wanted to meet you." Severus had started walking to the nearby street where he lived Spinner's End. They had reached a house right across from his own house that was identical to all the other houses and Severus had just rang the doorbell. Suddenly a girl about thirteen looking with long straight black hair and a black dress opened the door
"Oh Severus you're finally here" said the girl. "Yes indeed I am." he had said in a slightly annoyed tone he had never really been very fond of his neighbor although she had looked an awful lot like him they were nothing alike.
"This is Melanie Johnson." he told Lily "Apparently she saw you with me one day and has been dying to meet you." Severus had told her. " Well it's nice to meet you Melanie." Lily said happily
"Would you like to meet my sister?" Melanie asked Lily eagerly "Sure why not." Lily replied. Severus and Lily were now following behind Melanie into a gloomy sitting room were there sat a girl about the same age as Lily who looked very similar to Melanie who looked like she was sewing something.
"This is my little sister Olivia." Melanie told Lily. "But...Well...she doesn't talk well at least she hasn't since...well...since...since our mother died." Melanie looked down at her feet tears were starting to swell up in her eyes.
"I'm sorry." Lily said pitifully. "It's fine it just makes me sad just to think about it." Melanie now had tears flowing down her cheeks and Lily hugged her "well the main reason I wanted to see you two was because I thought you two would probably be the most trustworthy people and I just had to tell someone." Melanie said now nearly sobbing
"tell us what?" Lily asked kindly
"Well first of all can you two keep a secret?" she asked them almost in a whisper.
"Of course I can keep a secret I kept a really disturbing secret for at least two years." Severus said "what's so disturbing about it?" Lily asked "I'm not going to tell you otherwise it wouldn't be a secret anymore." he said "your no fun." Lily said, sounding sort of disappointed.
"So what is this secret?" Severus asked. "Well you know that really worn down orphanage by the mill factory?" Melanie asked them. "Yes of course we do." Severus said impatiently.
"I had a friend there and the children there are not treated very nicely so the other day I went there and I snuck her out of the orphanage and right now she's sleeping in the attic."
Severus and Lily both looked at her in shock and there was a long moment of silence.
