The seniors gathered in the main hall at night, all in their bedtime outfits, and packed with all sorts of sleepover 'essentials'. Astrid and Elsa had set their makeshift sleeping arrangements near one of the walls and tried to occupy themselves as they waited for the stars of the show to appear.
"Aren't we supposed to be doing something?" Astrid asked as she absentmindedly scrolled through her phone.
"Technically, we're on supervision duty," Elsa replied as she finished tying her braid. "So we should be okay just supervising."
"Great," Astrid mumbled.
"Gee, aren't you excited now?"
"There are better things I'd rather be doing instead of having to sleep on the damn floor, that's for sure."
"Bold of you to assume that you'll be able to sleep tonight," Elsa mocked with a laugh.
Astrid shrugged, and changing subjects, she asked, "Did you finish your physics homework?"
"Not yet. Andy and I were talking about a group study session on Sunday. What do you think?"
"Yeah, whatever helps speed up the work." Astrid leaned back and stared at the sky through the window. "God, their timing with this stupid party was just perfect, wasn't it?"
"Getting this over with right away is probably a good thing. Like ripping off a bandaid," Elsa countered.
"I don't know. Maybe we should've made them sweat a little more."
Elsa looked at the other girl with a raised eyebrow. "What, are you volunteering to babysit them next time?"
"Don't you dare put words into my mouth, Elsa," Astrid grumbled.
The platinum blonde chuckled as she shook her head. "Shouldn't our illustrious hosts have arrived by now?"
"They're probably going through last-minute details of whatever prank they have prepared for tonight."
Elsa's eyes narrowed. "That joke is not funny."
"Who said I was joking?"
The time for the First Ever Seniors Sleepover Party had come, and Jack and his posse gathered in front of the main hall's entrance. The silverhead rubbed his hands together in excitement as he looked around the group.
"All set," Wilbur sang as he joined the rest of the team.
"Seniors all accounted for?" Andy asked.
Wilbur waved his clipboard as he replied, "Yessir."
"Are we sure we're not forgetting anything?" Jack asked. "We're not supposed to leave the hall in the middle of the night."
Hiro snorted. "Aw, look at you, Frosty, being a good boy."
Jack pointed a threatening finger right between Hiro's eyes. "Listen here, you little shit. I gave my word that we would behave. And that's exactly what we're going to do."
"Promised who? North?" Hiro inquired with a raised eyebrow.
"Yes. Him. Now let's get to work, alright?"
Hiro rolled his eyes with a grunt but didn't word any further retorts.
Clearing his throat, Andy suggested in an appeasing voice tone, "Shall we go through a quick checklist then?"
Hiccup started numbering on his fingers. "Sleeping bags and mats?"
"Check."
"Snacks and beverages?"
"Check."
"Games?"
"Check."
"Music?"
"Check."
"Shaving cream?"
"Double check."
"Looks like we've got everything," Violet commented.
"Gentlemen, Violet…" Jack held his hand in the center of their circle and waited as the others' hands joined his. His grin widened as his eyes moved from one friend to the other.
"Let's get this party started!"
At the first opening, Hiccup excused himself from his loud friends so he could find his girlfriend. Said girlfriend was found sharing a package of cookies with Elsa as they kept themselves away from the party's excitement.
"Hey, you," he greeted Astrid as he dropped himself beside her on the floor.
"Shouldn't you be causing chaos with your stupid friends?" Astrid asked while mumching on a cookie.
Hiccup rolled his eyes. "Well, I was supposed to keep you guys distracted, but since you figured out our plans, I guess I'll just stick around if you don't mind."
"Suit yourself."
"So why are you two hiding here in the corner?" Hiccup asked, looking from one girl to the other.
"We're not hiding," Elsa argued. "We're acting as silent observers."
He snorted. "What part of 'making memories together' did you two not understand?"
"Right. Like that cheesy crap wasn't just an excuse for you bozos to mess around after curfew without getting busted," Astrid said as she narrowed her eyes at him. "And Elsa and I are making memories alright. We're eating our weight in snacks."
"Wow. Isn't that a memory for the ages?" Hiccup mumbled as his eyes shifted from one girl to the other.
"It sure is," Elsa replied with a chuckle.
"Are Elsa and Astrid still sulking?" Andy asked as he and the others joined them.
"You say sulking, I say compulsive chaperoning."
Jack rolled his eyes. "It's a fucking party, you two. Loosen up a little!"
"Well, if the ladies aren't coming to the party, let the party come to them." Wilbur turned around and whistled to catch the rest of the room's attention. "Seniors, assemble! It's time for the big cards tournament!"
"Let it be known that not joining the game equals automatic forfeit, and losers shall face punishment accordingly," Hiro stated.
"Oh, great, way to switch Astrid's competitive mode on," Violet grumbled.
"You people better be ready for a bloodbath," Hiccup said, earning himself a good punch to the shoulder from his girlfriend.
"Oh, this is gonna be awesome!" Jack laughed, rubbing his hands together conspiratorially.
Elsa shook her head as the rest of their classmates formed a circle around them. "This is ridiculous. How are we even supposed to keep up with everyone's moves?"
"Easy, Your Majesty: you don't."
Despite being called a 'sleepover', very little sleep had taken place during the party. Sugar and energy drinks had been supplied, and hyperactivity reigned within those walls. Still, it surprised Elsa that Hiccup, one of the main faces of the event had managed to close his eyes for any amount of time, really. Yet again, the opportunity to use his girlfriend as a human pillow probably was good encouragement for his body to relax.
"Hey, Jack's calling everyone for the next part, so nap time is over," Violet said, pointing at the couple resting against the wall.
Elsa hummed as she leaned forward to shake her friend. "Astrid? You might want to wake up…"
"What—" Astrid sat up with a jolt, stirring Hiccup awake as well.
"Say cheese!" Violet sang as she aimed her phone's camera at the couple. "This is totally yearbook material!"
Hiccup groaned as he rubbed his eyes. "Shit. You drew a penis on my face, didn't you?"
Violet rolled her eyes. "Relax. Elsa wouldn't even let us come near you two. She said it was mean. And that Astrid would kill us if we tried anything."
"Nothing but the truth," Elsa stated.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever," Violet mumbled as she inspected her phone.
"Oh, good, the lovebirds are up," Wilbur said as he and Jack approached the group.
"Good morning, children. Slept well?" Jack asked with crossed arms.
Hiccup stretched his arms above his head, making his spine crack in several joints. "Sure did. Best nap ever."
Wilbur shook his head as he stared at the guy sitting on the floor. "You're a disgrace, Haddock. Even Arendelle was up the whole night."
"Well, someone had to keep an eye on things," Elsa justified.
"And your efforts are appreciated, Your Majesty."
Wilbur cleared his throat. "Anyway, we gotta get moving."
"What are you talking about? We're not allowed to leave the hall," Astrid said.
"The deal was that we were not leaving during the night. So technically, that rule has expired," Jack reasoned.
"Cool. Where are we going?" Hiccup asked as he got on his feet.
Grinning mischievously, Jack pointed up. "The rooftop."
Sneaking out to the rooftop at the crack of dawn wearing nothing but pajamas was probably not the brightest—pun intended—of ideas. It was dark, and it was cold, and there were more than a few sleep-deprived cranky teens to be accounted for. Hiccup rubbed his hands together for warmth as he stared at the far-off sky.
"Where's the sun rising again?"
Hiro's voice brought Hiccup's attention back to the rooftop, and he took a moment to watch from the sidelines as his friends conversed.
Wilbur shrugged. "How should I know? You're the genius here."
"It rises in the East," Hiro replied with an annoyed grunt.
"And where is that?"
"Do I look like a fucking boy scout to you?"
"You two are the most useless pair I've ever had the displeasure of meeting," Violet grumbled as she approached the duo.
"I don't see you coming up with much of an answer either, Vi," Wilbur said with a smile too sweet to look genuine.
"Well, I didn't want to hurt your alpha pride, but if you're so desperate for help—"
"Oh, spare me, Violet," Hiro snarled, a bloodshot glare aimed at the girl. "You have no idea either!"
"Says who?"
"It's written all over your face!"
Hiccup shook his head in amusement as the quarrel continued and the insults escalated both in volume and hostility. From the corner of his eyes, he noticed Astrid walking in his direction and smiled at her.
"The sun rises that way," the girl said, gesturing with her head in the complete opposite direction the fighting teens had their attention turned to.
Hiccup chuckled as he hugged her and rested his chin on top of her head. "Yeah, but don't tell them that."
Astrid laughed. "And spoil all the fun?"
Elsa leaned her head against the wall as she blinked slowly, the lack of sleep making her senses go a little numb.
"Coffee?" Andy stopped next to her and offered her his thermos.
She usually wasn't a coffee drinker, but her brain craved some stimuli, and she eagerly accepted the beverage.
"How are you doing, Elsa?"
She drank another sip of coffee before returning him his mug. "Tired. You?"
Andy shrugged. "I'm surprisingly okay, actually. Endorphins are kicking in, and I feel like I could run a marathon."
Elsa chuckled. "Can't say that I envy you. All I wanna do right now is hop on my bed and forget the world exists."
"Well, we should be done here soon enough," he said with a smile.
She hummed and watched as Andy slid his back down the wall and sat on the floor.
"I'm happy that we're doing this."
Elsa looked at him with an arched eyebrow. "Watching the sunrise?"
"That too, but I was talking about the night as a whole," Andy admitted. "Jack may be a moron most of the time, but he was onto something when he suggested this sleepover."
"The 'making memories' story again?"
He shrugged. "Our remaining time here in the Academy is limited, and getting to hang out with everyone was pretty fun."
She bit her lip for a moment before pointing out, "We should start thinking about the future, though. Like you said, we're not gonna be here forever."
"Yeah, you're right. But sometimes, we get so stuck on what's next that we forget to live the now."
"I suppose…"
Andy got on his feet and stretched his back with a tired moan. "It's good to have a Jack Frost moment every once in a while. Helps you look at things from a different perspective."
The blonde sighed. "That is a rather dangerous statement you have there, Andrew."
"Still, it's not wrong, is it?"
She said nothing and busied herself with her braid instead. Surely, she was aware his intentions were usually good, but that didn't mean she agreed with his methods. Jack Frost was a confusing mess, and his chaotic behavior unnecessarily tired her out most of the time.
"Elsa, look." Andy's voice brought her back, and she found him pointing at the horizon.
The sun was coming up.
