Family Complete
For the past few weeks Sebastian knew something was on Blaine's mind, yet he didn't want to push as Blaine had been working extremely long hours as of late. Each and any time an opportunity seemed to present itself, Ainsley wanted one of them to play or Devon would take-off now that he was walking. Then once they finally had them each in bed for the night, Ainsley after a few stories, the two had work they needed to finish up. It wasn't as though they didn't talk, they did, but this was something Sebastian didn't want to squeeze in-between everything else.
It wasn't till one evening after finally getting Ainsley to sleep, did Sebastian stop in the doorway of Devon's room to see Blaine in the glider near the crib. "With as mobile as he's becoming, I should probably install the gate at his door soon." Sebastian said quietly causing Blaine to glance over at him and smile as he could see him since the room was faintly lit. "Just as all the others need to be reinstalled as well."
"This weekend." Blaine replied softly, leaning his head back. "Where has time gone Bas, he seems to be growing up so quickly?"
"I ask myself that all the time Killer." Sebastian responded as he leaned against the doorframe.
"What took so long tonight?"
"Our little princess wanted me to stay with her till she fell asleep." Instantly he saw Blaine raise his eyebrow, as normally Sebastian wasn't the one to give in, in this way. Another story yes, but staying afterwards, not so much. "What can I say, she's got her Daddy's puppy eyes and is learning to use them."
"You're doomed."
"I know, but I do have some will power when it comes to them." When Blaine raised his eyebrow, Sebastian laughed softly. "I did say some, didn't say how much." This response caused Blaine's smile to grow. "How about you come join me in the living room and we open a nice bottle of wine, have some us time?"
"Don't you have work to do?"
"Nothing that can't wait." Blaine smiled once more, before slowly making his way out of the glider. After he had, he looked in on Devon before making his way to Sebastian who took his hand. "Care to tell me what's been on your mind lately?" Subtly Blaine shook his head, so Sebastian gave his hand a reassuring squeeze letting him know the topic was tabled for the moment.
Getting to curl up on the couch with a nice bottle of wine was something they each needed with as much as they'd been working. "Have I had too much, or did she actually pick up all her toys tonight?" Blaine asked as he rested his head against Sebastian's shoulder.
"She picked them all up, and without me asking." Sebastian said before taking another sip. "She felt bad that Devon tripped over one of them early in the evening. Even though he didn't cry, she felt bad."
"You mean when we were each ready to panic and he simply treated it like a speed bump."
"Yes. Lexi said he reminds her a lot of me in that way. Told me that now that he's walking, he's going to keep going till be believes he's mastered it." Sebastian then pressed a kiss into Blaine's curls. "Are we still having dinner guests tomorrow?"
"Yes, Rachel and Brody are still coming, unless Rachel's too tired to."
"I thought she was past that stage in her pregnancy."
"She is, for the most part, still has her moments though. I'm just afraid Ainsley might be too much for you."
"B, Ainsley loves her Auntie Rach and knows all about the baby she's carrying. It's not as though this is the first time she been around Rach, or a pregnant woman. You're the one that always preaches to me, patience when she gets overly excited about something." Blaine nodded, yet that didn't seem to reassure Sebastian who gently rubbed Blaine's hip as that's where his hand was resting. "Are you…" Before he could even get the words out, Blaine was looking up at him with one of those looks that Sebastian didn't question. Much like his puppy dog eyes, they got Sebastian to do what he wanted without saying a word.
While it was certainly frustrating, after all this time Sebastian knew Blaine would talk when he was ready so he simply needed to accept it. By the time they headed off to bed, Blaine was definitely a bit more relaxed which given things as of late, was needed. And with his focus not on whatever had been on his mind, Blaine turned his focus to Sebastian, which turned into a constant reminder of telling the other to be quiet in fear of waking their kids.
The next morning, more pieces started to fall into place when Sebastian was braiding Ainsley's hair while Blaine was taking his shower. "Papa, Auntie Rach and Uncle Brody are coming to dinner tonight."
"I know, and don't forget Jacob."
"I know. Papa?"
"Yes Princess."
"Auntie Rach is having a girl…right?"
"Yes, your Auntie Rachel is having a baby girl." Sebastian replied, glancing to the mirror to gauge Ainsley's face while also paying attention to what he's doing. "Are you happy about that?" She nodded her head just enough so that Sebastian didn't pull her hair, something she learned quickly.
"Daddy's happy too!"
"I know, as am I. Why are you so happy?"
"It's a girl!" Sebastian had to refrain from chuckling with how blunt her answer was. "Last time, all the babies were boys."
"You like that the odds are balancing out a bit." She tilted her head to the side when he spoke. "That it's no longer so many boys compared to girls." He could say that pretty honestly since he knew all the girls that were currently pregnant, were actually having girls so the balance was coming back. "I thought you were happy to have a little brother."
"I am Papa." Even though he knew she was, as she adored Devon, he knew something more was going on in that head of hers, much like her Daddy's. Unlike Blaine though, she couldn't always put into words what it was. Once they all started their days, Sebastian easily slipped into work mode since what was going on at home wasn't anything serious. If this had occurred years earlier, he might not have been able to focus as easily, yet he and Blaine had promised to never keep anything that was upsetting them from the other knowing it would only exasperate the issue.
By the time he got home that day, their home was full of noise and the aroma of dinner filled the air. Sebastian barely rounded the corner when he saw a big gift bag up out of the reach of the kids, proof that Blaine had gone shopping at some point during the day. He didn't even need to say a word as Ainsley announced his arrival by calling out for her Papa as she ran towards him to be scooped up in a hug. "Whatever you're making, it smells amazing B." Sebastian told him before squatting down, to say hello to Devon who was playing on the floor. Blaine turned to look at him and smiled, loving the sight before him. "You couldn't help yourself, could you?"
A faint blush crept to Blaine's cheeks as he knew exactly what Sebastian was referencing. Then shortly after he put Ainsley down, Sebastian closed the distance between them, soon wrapping him up in a hug before giving him a kiss. "You're not upset, are you?"
"No." He replied softly before pressing a kiss to his nose. "How much time do I have?" Blaine didn't even need to answer, as Devon was soon beside them, holding onto each of their pant legs. It only took them looking down for Sebastian to pick him up and rest him on his hip. "You're incredible, you know that."
"How so?" Blaine asked before glancing over at Ainsley who was coloring at the table.
"For as overwhelmed as we first were after bringing Devon home, you managed to seamlessly alter your schedule while it took a bit more for me."
"Only because you tend to bring more work home with you, but that's the nature of your career, mine gives me a bit more flexibility."
"You know my career will never be more important to me than you, or our family B."
"I know." When his eyes closed slightly, Sebastian saw the same look he'd been seeing for the past few weeks, and he just wished Blaine would talk, tell him what was going on through his head. "Just as I know, things got more complicated once we added to our family."
"I don't regret it for one second, never will." That brought a soft smile to Blaine's face. "I love you so much B, and the family we've created." He then leaned down to give Blaine a kiss which caused Ainsley to giggle as she looked on. Once they broke apart, Blaine's lips parted to speak, but before he could, the doorbell rang. Ainsley was quick to proclaim who she presumed it was which had Sebastian taking off after her, but not before telling Blaine they'd finish their conversation later.
After Sebastian left the kitchen, Blaine gave his sauce one more stir before squatting down before Devon who'd gone back to playing once Sebastian set him down. It only ever took one look in his eyes, for Blaine to be reminded of Sebastian as Devon truly was a mini version of him. "You and your sister, are some of the best decisions your Papa and I have ever made. So, why am I so nervous about asking him about the idea of doing it once again?" Obviously Devon had no clue what he was saying, but he grabbed ahold of Blaine's fingers and squeezed them tightly. That led to Blaine picking him up and wrapping him up tightly in his arms, which helped him pull it together as all the voice got closer to the kitchen. Upon turning his head, he was greeted to the sight of Ainsley holding tight to Rachel's hand, as Brody held an overly anxious Jacob in his arms. "Feel free to let him down, the house is pretty indestructible."
"That's because it doesn't have him running amuck." Brody said with a laugh as he set Jacob down, but didn't release him from his hold. "Remember, be careful as Devon is still learning to walk." Jacob smiled before taking off to explore.
"Relax, B's right as the house is quite childproof right now since Devon is exploring more and more." Sebastian told them before getting them each something to drink as Blaine set Devon back down. The look on Blaine's face looked pretty neutral, but Sebastian knew more was going on and this evening, he was going to push a bit more than he had been. "How did your latest appointment go Rach?" He asked as Brody had stepped out to keep an eye on Jacob.
"Good, we're each healthy." Rachel replied while going to sit down, Ainsley right at her side. "This time around it's easier since I have a better idea of what to expect, just as Britt and the others said I would." She then wrapped her arm around Ainsley who leaned against her. "Just as I asked Britt, any advice on making the transition from one, will be appreciated."
"Your life is going to be thrown upside-down." Sebastian said as he handed her a drink. "Any routine you have, goes out the window." He then slipped his arm around Blaine, and pressed a kiss to his temple. "I wouldn't change it for anything as it happens for the best reason possible." Initially Blaine was all set to throw his wishes out the window, till his last words left his mouth."
"Britt and Jeff essentially said the same thing, though they added adjusting to a third was easier than a second." Rachel told him. "Considering Brody and I already have less than normal schedules, it shouldn't be too bad."
"Once you come to realization little will go as planned, at least to start, it's less stressful." Blaine added. "It also forces you to become better organized and prepared." When Sebastian laughed, Blaine looked over his shoulder. "What?"
"B, you were already organized before we brought Devon home, trust me." Sebastian said to him. "You make me feel less than competent at times since I tend to juggle things a bit more."
"Bas, you're more than competent."
"I appreciate that." He said before walking over to give him a kiss, earning a sweet response from Rachel. "If you ever need someone to take Jacob off your hands for a bit after the little one arrives, just let us know."
"Thank you, we just might take you up on that if it wouldn't be too much."
"If I thought it would be, I wouldn't have offered." Sebastian assured her, unaware that Blaine was reading into everything he said trying to gauge him. Yet, the conversation never took enough of a turn that he could get a better idea than he already had on the matter.
By the time it was only the four of them again after the Westons had gone home, they slowly slipped into their nighttime routine and went about getting Ainsley and Devon ready for bed. Since they switched off each evening, this night Blaine got to watch Sebastian with Devon, after reading to Ainsley. "Dev, I wish your Daddy would tell me what's going through that head of his so I could help him figure it out. I hate seeing him look so lost, especially when he looks at me because he, your sister, and you are my world."
"That feeling is mutual." Blaine said softly, unsure if Devon was asleep. When Sebastian looked over his shoulder from the crib, he saw Blaine leaning against the doorframe.
"Then tell me what's going on." Sebastian told him before leaning over and pressing a kiss to Devon's forehead. Once he had, he turned and made his way towards him. The moment he was before him, he cradled Blaine's cheek, brushing his thumb against his cheekbone. "Let me in." Blaine smiled up at him, before wiping at his eye as a lone tear fell as his heart filled with love as he locked eyes with his husband. Unable to speak in the moment, he simply nodded before taking his hand and guiding him into their bedroom.
After Sebastian sat down on their bed, Blaine moved to stand before him, promptly feeling Sebastian's arms around him. "I haven't told you what I've been thinking about, because part of me is afraid of what you might say. And I wasn't sure if I was ready to hear your answer should it not be what I want to hear."
"Stubborn as I might be, you know I'd never shut down and idea of yours without listening fully to what you have to say."
"I know, but…" Once his gaze lowered, Sebastian pulled him closer till Blaine wrapped his arms tightly around him. "This is something you already have an opinion about."
"If I do, that doesn't mean we can't talk about it." Sebastian assured him. "So, just tell me as the sooner you do, the sooner we can talk about it." Blaine nodded before standing more upright so he could look at him.
"I want us to add to our family, have another child." Blaine said to him, watching him intently as he did. "I know it would be a lot, but…I feel we have more than enough love to give another child." Sebastian didn't respond, simply sat there and listened which was clearly a bit unsettling to him. "You don't…do you." The crack in his voice, had Sebastian reaching up to caress his cheek. "I…"
"Before you say another word, wouldn't you like to know how I feel about it?" Sebastian replied. "I mean, right now you're working on pure conjecture based on my silence. I was silent, because I wanted to hear what you had to say, undoubtedly, you have more to say on the subject. And yes, you were correct that I do already have an opinion on the matter as it's something I've thought about."
"If you're saying this just to make me feel better, don't, as I…"
"Yes." Sebastian stated in the midst of Blaine's ramble, loud enough to stop him before he worked himself up further. "I would love to have another child with you, as you're right, we have more than enough love to give another." Slowly a smile appeared on Blaine's face as he processed what Sebastian had to say. "Did you really believe I wouldn't want another?"
"I honestly wasn't sure." Blaine told him. "I know Ainsley and Devon are a handful, and with everything else going on with our careers, I wasn't sure if you'd want to add to it. Not to mention, the expense as…"
"Stop trying to talk yourself out of it now that it's out in the opening B." Sebastian said to him. "Yes, adding to our family will change our lives once again, but that's not a bad thing. As for the expense, not an issue in the slightest." The last bit caused Blaine to cock his head. "It's true and you know it, so stop trying to rationalize it. We're lucky enough to be in a place where we don't have to worry about money, between trust funds and the money we made in college, it's a non-issue. Are you wanting to go the same route again?" Blaine nodded. "Given how we did things previously, how do you want to handle things this time around?"
"I love you, you know that." Blaine told him before giving him a kiss.
"I love you too, but that doesn't answer my question. Even though we see no difference, we know we've each fathered one of our kids. Who does it this time?"
"What if we each do?" Blaine replied. "I don't mind not knowing, because it doesn't matter in my mind. Devon is as much mine as Ainsley is yours."
"Nor mine, as I agree with you completely." Sebastian told him. "They are our children. It's in moments like this, that I wish that we didn't have to go about things the way we do." He wasn't surprised to hear Blaine laugh. "Does that really surprise you?"
"No, as I've thought about it too. Doesn't mean we can't improvise?" This time, Sebastian was the one that laughed. "I know, that was bad."
"It was, even for you." That response earned him quite the look from Blaine who'd crossed his arms over his chest. "You said it first." He then placed his hands on Blaine's hips. "What do you say we close our bedroom door and celebrate our decision?"
"I thought you had some work to do."
"Surprisingly, not tonight." Sebastian said while moving his hands to begin undressing him, starting with his pants. "The only thing I plan on doing the remainder of the night, is you."
"Is that so?" Blaine asked, and Sebastian nodded. "What if I'd prefer things the other way?"
"Then we make sure we're each thoroughly satisfied." He replied while pulling his pants down. "Any objections?"
"None, but we have to remember to be quiet."
"What, you don't want a replay of what happened last time when we got a little too caught up in the moment?"
"No, never again!" Blaine said before pulling his shirt off and tossing it aside. "I was afraid we'd traumatized our little girl."
"If we had, it's a good thing her Daddy's a doctor and would've helped her through it."
"That's not funny Bas."
"I wasn't trying to be, I was stating the truth." Sebastian told him. "It could've been worse B, as she only heard something. It's not as though she walked in on us." Blaine nodded as he knew Sebastian was right. "That was a learning experience for us as we've never let it happen again."
"True, but why did you bring it up then?"
"As it happened the night we made the decision that brought Devon into our lives."
"Your memory never ceases to amaze me." Blaine then leaned forward to give him a kiss as he stood before him in only his boxers. "I believe it's time to close the door so we can get started."
"That, is an excellent idea." Once he spoke, Blaine went to close the door as Sebastian started to get undressed, eager to get a start on the rest of their night.
The next morning when Sebastian awoke, he was a bit deflated to find the bed empty beside him, but soon knew why as Blaine came walking in with a cup a coffee for him. "Thought you'd need this to get started since we didn't get much sleep last night." Blaine told him as he handed him his cup as he'd sat up in bed upon seeing Blaine enter. "Not that I'm complaining."
"Me either, as that's the best reason for not getting a lot of sleep." Sebastian replied as Blaine sat down beside him. "How are you feeling, and I'm referring to what we spoke about last night?"
"Excited, you?"
"Happy. Do you want to make the call today or would you like me to?"
"I'll do it, since I don't have my first patient until ten." Blaine told him. "We'll keep this to ourselves like we did previously, right?"
"I believe it's best that way. Once you speak with Sara, call me."
"Of course." He then leaned over for a kiss. "Since it's early and they're still sleeping, what would you say to joining me for a shower this morning?"
"Do you really have to ask?" Sebastian replied, tugging on Blaine's robe as he did and pleased to see he was nude beneath it. "Is this a strict shower or…"
"Let's go find out."
Even though the two were running on little sleep, neither was irritable as it was their choice and something they realized they needed to do more often. While they'd enjoyed their shower together, from the moment it was over, it was a moment like any other as they proceeded to get their kids ready. With the later start to his day, Blaine took them to Lexi's that morning who happened to notice he seemed to have an extra spring in his step. Yet with everything going on around them, she didn't have time to ask what had him in such a good mood.
By the time he arrived at his office, Blaine quickly got settled before pulling up the numbers he needed. Having done this before, it was less tedious as he knew what to expect. Since they'd used the same surrogate twice before it made the process easier. From the moment he had her on the phone, it wasn't long till everything got put in motion. Once it was, Blaine leaned back in his chair and thought about how surreal this moment was. Every fear he had in the weeks leading up to this seemed like a distant memory as they'd all been for naught. Sebastian felt the same way he did, but was waiting for Blaine to bring it up since he believed he saw certain things more clearly.
When he called to tell Sebastian everything was set, he hated that he got his voicemail, but that wasn't an unusual occurrence. Beyond saying he made the calls, Blaine didn't say much else as he felt this was something best talked about, not left as a message. But once they did talk later that day, Sebastian sounded as happy as he felt knowing the process had begun. By the time the two got home that evening, they were each grateful for a quiet night which neither had much work to do. That allowed them to focus on their children, and realize they couldn't wait to add to their family.
Keeping this news to themselves wasn't easy, especially after implantation had happened and reinforced why they hadn't told their families. Yet the moment Sara was four months along, they sat Ainsley down to tell her she was getting another sibling, before telling anyone else. Since she was older this time around, they knew this time around things would be different. She looked at them for a moment, before asking if she was getting a brother or sister. Upon telling her they weren't sure yet, they asked if it mattered to which she looked at them, which clearly made Blaine uncomfortable.
"No, but I'd like a sister." She stated, which had Blaine release a breath he didn't realize he was holding. Even with as young as she was, there were moments she spoke beyond her years. While that made them feel better, they knew regardless, it was going to be a transition for her. With Ainsley now aware of what was happening, they went about telling their families and friends who were ecstatic for them. Everyone had a ton of questions for them, yet this time around they didn't have many answers since they wanted to be surprised.
The closer it came to the baby's due date, the more questions Ainsley began to ask which they answered the best they could. Luckily for them, they had more than a few people they could turn to, to ask for advice that had gone through this before. So, by the time they'd gotten the call that Sara had gone into labor and the baby was on the felt Ainsley was more than ready. While some might believe their focus had been too strong on Ainsley, they hadn't ignored what this would all mean for Devon, but it was handled quite different.
Even though they'd been through it before, neither could believe how their hearts swelled the moment their new little girl was placed into Blaine's arms. "She's perfect." Sebastian said softly as he wrapped his arms around Blaine. "Just like her sister and brother." He added before pressing a kiss to Blaine's cheek as his eyes hadn't left the little girl in his arms. "B?" Slowly Blaine turned his head and smiled before pressing a kiss to his cheek. "Ready to let our loved ones know our little girl is here and is going to steal their hearts?" Softly he answered, before looking up as Sebastian snapped a picture of the three of them to share.
"Before you send it, call home so we can tell Ainsley and Devon before anyone else."
"Of course."
Once the call was made, and the message sent it wasn't long till they were flooded with congratulations from those close to them. And a few hours later, got a more than welcome surprise when they spotted Gregory walking down the hall with Ainsley, who had something fluffy in hand. The closer they got, they saw it was a stuffed bunny. Gregory gave them each a big hug, before they squatted down before Ainsley. "I know you didn't say if we should or shouldn't bring her, but she insisted that either I or Nana bring her to meet her sister." Blaine and Sebastian looked up at him and smiled before bringing their attention back to their daughter.
"Is this for her?" Sebastian asked while playing with the floppy ear of the light beige bunny. Ainsley nodded, a wide smile on her face. "Would you like to see her?" Again she nodded, so Sebastian scooped her up in his arms and brought her to the window. Blaine then proceeded to point her out once he was standing beside them, and his Dad beside him.
"She's tiny." Gregory said to them, which they each acknowledged.
"Yes, but only a little bit smaller than this one was by a matter of ounces." Sebastian told him.
"What's her name?" Ainsley asked, causing her Dads to look at one another.
"Juliette." Blaine replied and they soon heard Ainsley trying to say it, which had Sebastian helping her and unsurprisingly doing so with a French accent.
"That's very pretty." Gregory told them as he placed a hand on Blaine's shoulder. "Did you just decide?"
"We had it narrowed down to three that we loved, but wanted to make sure the one we decided on suited her." Sebastian said in response since Blaine was focused on Ainsley at the moment. "We'll let everyone know once we get home."
"When she coming home?"
"In a day or so, all depends on when the doctor says it's okay." Blaine told her. "It was sweet of you to get her a present." Ainsley smile managed to grow after he thanked her, before curling up against Sebastian. "How's Devon?" He asked, turning to look at his Dad.
"He was playing on the floor with Nana when we left, happy as can be. Remember, he doesn't quite comprehend what's happening."
"We know. How is it you got to come and not Mom?"
"She decided to stay so she could take care of a few little things once Devon goes down for his nap." Gregory replied. "Now that we know it's a little girl, she can finish up something she was working on. His response intrigued them both, while Ainsley was too busy looking through the glass at her sister. "Have you spoken with Cooper and Lexi yet?"
"We have, and they can't wait to meet her but are refraining from coming to the hospital since we told them we'll be bringing her home soon."
"Have you thought of Godparents yet?"
"Yes, it's going to be Thad and Quinn." Sebastian replied earning a chuckle from Gregory. "What?"
"Aside from you two, you boys picked some fierce protectors of your little girls." Blaine and Sebastian soon laughed as he had a point. "Not slighting Wes, but…"
"We get it." Blaine said to him. "And to think, we didn't know if we were having a son or daughter this time around. The last two times we took that into consideration, along with other factors." That earned him an eyebrow raise from his Dad. "This is not a conversation to have in this moment Dad, little ears."
"Enough said." He told them. "Do you think we can actually meet her?" No sooner did he ask, did Ainsley get excited.
"I'll go see what I can do."
The two were able to actually meet the newest addition to the family which had plenty of others jealous, but knew they'd get their moment once they brought Juliette home. Once they brought her home, they were greeted to the sight of those near and dear to them. While everyone wanted to hold her, the first honors once she was, went to Lexi and Quinn, as the rest of the Grandparents had come to the hospital the next day and done so. With Juliette in Lexi's arms, Cooper slipped his arms around Blaine and Sebastian's shoulders as he stood between them, watching. "So, I'll be the first to ask…is this it or might you add to your brood once again?" That caused the two to look at one another and smile.
"I think this is it." Blaine replied softly, to which Sebastian agreed. "It feels right…complete."
