Generations Collide
Part 2
After spending an entire weekend trying to not let his emotions get the better of him, plus studying for midterms, Devon was more than ready to head home and then start their spring break vacation. Much to his Dads delight, all of their spring breaks coincided allowing them to get away as a family. With so much needing to be done before they left, Devon wasn't surprised to only see Blaine and Juliette at the airport to get him. Even though he'd only been gone a couple of months he had to take a double-take at his baby sister who'd certainly changed a bit. "Let me guess, Papa is still at the office." Devon said after giving them each a hug and a kiss on the cheek.
"Actually, he is out shopping with Ainsley." Blaine told him as they headed towards the elevators to the parking garage since he'd only brought a carry-on home. His response earned him quite the look from Devon. "Madison has class tonight, while Brianna and Ava haven't gotten back into town yet."
"What about Will?"
"He's on airport duty since Uncle Hunter is still at work and Aunt Quinn is at Victoria's riding lesson." Juliette happily told him, putting a smile on Devon's face as he slipped his arms around her shoulders. A sight that warmed Blaine's heart as he loved how close all of their kids are even if they got on each other's nerves at times. "Why wasn't Max on your flight as Dad would've brought him home?"
"He still had one more midterm to take." Devon told her. "Why is Papa shopping with Ainsley as she's certainly old enough to do so on her own?"
"There is something she wanted to talk to him about and felt this was the best way to do it." Blaine said earning him a look from Devon. "No, not that…thank god as neither of us are ready for that." Devon laughed loudly. "That's not funny Dev."
"Actually, if you could see your face Dad, you'd be laughing too."
"I doubt it."
"What are the two of you talking about?" Juliette asked as she looked between the two as they had the elevator to themselves. The unison response of nothing simply caused her to shake her head. "I'm not a baby anymore."
"You're right, you're not." Blaine told her before pressing a kiss atop of her head. "Your brother thought it would be fun to tease me about your sister possibly being pregnant." Her wide-eyed expression caused Blaine to smile. "It's not funny."
"Ainsley wouldn't do that Dad, she wants to finish school first." Juliette said rather matter of factly.
"Has she told you this?"
"No, I heard her talking with Madison about it. They want to be done with school and married before having kids."
"Good to know." Blaine said and Devon could hear the relief in his voice. For as much as he'd teased his Dad, he knew neither of his Dads were ready to be grandfathers. "I know you don't need to hear this, but make sure you pack as soon as we get home."
"I was fully intending on it, don't worry. Are you all packed squirt?"
"Of course." Juliette replied. "And I'm pretty sure Ainsley's all done too, unless she's buying stuff for the trip while out with Papa."
"And before I forget, your Aunt and Uncle would love it if you stopped by tomorrow morning." Blaine said as they exited and headed towards the car.
"Wait, Uncle Coop is home?"
"He got home last night as they wrapped early." Once they reached the car, Juliette didn't think twice about hopping in back allowing Devon to ride up front with Blaine. "You seem more relaxed than the last time we spoke."
"That's because midterms are over." Devon replied as Blaine pulled out to head home. "You can't tell me you've forgotten what midterm or exam time at Dalton is like."
"That's something I'll never forget, but it prepared me well for college." Blaine replied. "How do you think you did?"
"I think I did pretty well, besides my one for AP Chem which was hard as hell, even Theo was stressing over it and you know science is his thing."
"That I do." They talked about school and everything that had been going on for most of the trip home knowing other topics needed to wait till they were all together.
While they were on their way home, Sebastian and Ainsley were making their way through one of her favorite stores. "Why do I feel that there is more behind this little trip then you simply wanting me to pay?" Sebastian said to her before she stopped in front of the bathing suit display.
"You'd be paying regardless Papa since you pay my credit card bill." She replied, beaming up at him as she did.
"Touché, but that's only because we want you to focus on your studies."
"I know." Ainsley said in response. "Plus you and Dad made it clear that should I ever abuse that privilege, the card would be no more."
"Correct." Sebastian told her. "So, what is it you want to talk to me about?" He asked knowing his daughter all too well.
"Dad." Ainsley replied before pulling a suit off the rack and showing it to Sebastian who shook his head so she put it back.
"What about him?" Sebastian responded as he pulled a suit off the rake and showed it to her, only for her to take it from him. She didn't know how he did it, but he always seemed to find things she loved. "Ainsley."
"Why has he been so on edge the last couple of weeks?"
"Excuse me?"
"Juliette told me he hasn't seemed like his usual self, and he sounds different when I've spoken to him lately."
"He's been busy."
"Papa, don't. You might be able to play that card with Juliette still, but not with me. I saw the look on your face when I said I wanted to talk about Dad."
"This isn't the place to talk about this Ainsley."
"So something is going on with Dad."
"Go try on those bathing suits, we'll talk once you're done." She looked up at him in a way that was so very Blaine that he could only motion for her to get into the dressing room. Ever since Devon had gotten into it with Kurt, Blaine had been on edge and Sebastian knew it. Much as he tried to play it off, Blaine was livid that Kurt had not gotten into it with Devon, but put his hand on him, and wanted nothing more than to give him a piece of his mind. Knowing her Papa as well as she did, Ainsley went about trying on new bathing suits as Sebastian patiently waited. A couple of the times she came out, he merely cocked an eyebrow which let her know there was no way he was going to purchase it for her. Watching his little girl grow up into the beautiful young lady she'd become had been hard as it was impossible for him or Blaine to ignore the way guys looked at her.
With two new suits in hand, they made their way to the counter to pay, still without another word on the topic broached. Once she had the bag in hand, she thanked him before they made their way out. "So, are you going to continue to put me off or tell me what's wrong with Dad?"
"When did you get so persistent?" Sebastian asked.
"I'm your daughter, it comes naturally to me." She said as she looked up at him, batting her eyes which put a smile on his face.
"Too true." Sebastian told her as they continued to walk down the block. "The easiest way to put this is, he's still pissed about what happened back in Lima when your brother and the boys were doing their volunteer work."
"Given what I've heard, I'm not surprised."
"What exactly did you hear princess?" She looked up at him again before pursing her lips. "Ainsley, what don't I know?"
"Let's just say that Theo called Ben who then called me and…Devon might not have told you and Dad everything." Ainsley told him. "You see, if it wasn't for Liam and Max in particular…Dev's temper would've gotten the better of him."
"Do I want to know what set him off?" Sebastian asked as calmly as he could.
"Probably not, but I know you won't let this rest."
"Correct, and you opened the door to this conversation by mention your conversation with Ben." He replied. "So, what happened to set Dev off?"
"It was an accumulation of things. Try as he might, he could only take so much of Kurt's snide remarks anytime he walked by." She told him, but it only took one look at him to know it wasn't enough. "You know he gets irritable when he gets tired, right?"
"Like father, like son." Sebastian said with a laugh.
"Devon's presence along with the rest of the guys, clearly bothered him. They all heard plenty of snide comments about all of the parents, but…"
"I was his favorite target."
"You and Dad actually. He couldn't believe that the two of you were still together, and…said if we're anything like the two of you, we're either promiscuous or self-entitled assholes or both." Even though she was looking up at him, she saw his hand form a fist. "I was right, Dev didn't tell you."
"No." Sebastian replied before taking a deep breath and raking his fingers through his hair. "I take it you spoke with him."
"I did. Even though Devon knows his comments were coming from a place of jealousy, it still hurts to hear someone talk about your parents that way." She then reached over and took ahold of his hand. "I did something Papa, something you might not agree with."
"What did you do?"
"After taking with Ben, and then Devon…I called Aunt Rachel."
"Why did you pull Aunt Rachel into all this, you know how she gets when it comes to Kurt?"
"Because I needed to know what could've possibly set him off as it seemed to come out of nowhere." She replied. "It's one thing to see Devon and be reminded of you, it's another to act the way he did towards him. The only thing Devon did wrong is…"
"Be my son."
"Papa."
"It's true. When it comes to you and your sister, there's a bit of mystery to it, yet with Devon, there is no doubt I'm his father."
"Papa, you know none of us look at you and Dad differently."
"I'm talking about looking like us, that's all. You have so much of my attitude on some things, while Devon's got your Dad's compassion. Proof that nurture plays a big part into who we become beyond genetics." Sebastian then leaned over and pressed a kiss atop her head. "What did Aunt Rachel say might've spurred his tantrum?"
"His longtime partner left him." Sebastian cocked his eyebrow as that wasn't an answer he was expecting. "And before you ask, she didn't speak with him, she found out from Finn who called her after everything as Christina filled him in."
"Still doesn't give him the right to treat Devon or the other boys the way he did."
"Oh, I'm not implying it did Papa. Simply telling you what Aunt Rachel told me." Ainsley said to him in response. "He's not having an easy time with it, and then seeing Devon who happily told him you and Dad were still together when he asked, it stung."
"Not your brother's fault." His direct tone something he used when he made a point. "As the supposed adult, he should've gotten himself out of an awkward situation, not engage a teenager."
"According to Aunt Rachel, Finn told him that exact thing. Nor was Finn surprised that Devon reacted the way he did. Finn told him what else would he expect from Blaine's and Sebastian's son, for him to sit back and let him talk ill of his parents, not likely." Sebastian couldn't help but laugh given how true the statement was. "He also gave him a hard time about embarrassing Christina with his behavior since she's friends with the guys."
"Devon said she was pretty mortified by the whole ordeal." Ainsley nodded before hooking her arm through his. "What is it princess?"
"The more I say, the more frustrated I get about the whole thing. How can someone hold a grudge for so long?"
"Don't try and figure him out, we gave up doing it a long time ago."
"It puts a lot of things into perspective, things I never quite understood before." She said. "Such as how Dad's demeanor changed anytime you two brought up the past to teach us something."
"Put it this way Ainsley, saying there was bad blood between us, is an understatement. I thought he'd gotten passed it, given he'd been cordial the few times we'd seen him through the years, but clearly he was putting on a front."
"He should've done that with Devon."
"I know, because he didn't deserve it. I'm not saying he's an angel, but…"
"Theo told Ben that he was behaving, the initial…snarky comment, is what put him on the defensive and it all spiraled from there."
"Devon told us the same thing. Is this all you wanted to talk with me about?"
"Yes, because I'm worried about Dad. Yet the more we spoke, the more I understood why."
"The last thing we ever wanted was for any of you to cross paths with him, particularly with neither of us there."
"We're growing up Papa."
"I know, we know, but clearly he hasn't." Sebastian told her. "Do you know why Aunt Rachel didn't share this information with us?"
"She didn't want to upset Dad any more than he already was." She replied. "She would've told you, but she didn't want to put you in an awkward situation of keeping something concerning one of your kids from him."
"Easy as it would be to be upset, her reasoning makes sense given she has firsthand knowledge of what happened."
"Is Dad going to be alright?"
"Yea. Seeing Devon with his own eyes, is going to do him a lot of good."
"Plus we know he'll get Devon to talk whether he realizes it or not." Sebastian laughed once again.
"He's good at that."
"Very good, which is why he's as successful as he is." The two spoke their entire way home, enjoying the fact they finally had time to do so. Although the conversation started serious, it took on a lighter tone as she filled him in on her studies and what she'd been doing. Between his case load and her class load, they didn't get to talk as often as they liked so they truly cherished times such as these.
Once they walked into their home, they were greeted to the sounds of the Warblers on the stereo which didn't surprise either of them given they were prepping for Nationals. When they reached the end of the hall they saw Devon working on his choreography and Juliette following along. Sebastian's smile grew as he stood and watched, while Ainsley headed towards the kitchen where she presumed her Dad was. After the song ended, Juliette looked over her shoulder before telling Devon to turn around. Without hesitation, he walked straight to him and gave him a hug. "Where's Ainsley?"
"Showing your Dad her new bathing suits." Sebastian said in response.
"Suits?" Juliette replied.
"Like you're one to talk, as I recall Jocelyn helped you pick out two new ones as well." Juliette simply smirked before heading towards the kitchen to see what was going on. "God, she's a combination of the two of you." Devon laughed as the two headed towards the couch to sit down. "Looks good."
"Thanks, but I still have some work to do. Zack and Jacob came up with a sequence that sometimes gives me issues. It needs to be second nature."
"You'll figure it out, you always do." Sebastian told him as he placed his arm along the back of the couch. "It's good having you home."
"Dad said the same thing, it feels good to be home, especially after everything." Devon replied.
"Did you and Dad talk about it?"
"Briefly, but it was obvious he didn't want to talk much about it in front of Juliette."
"Understandable given how he feels about the whole thing."
"I tried to ignore him Papa, it's just…he's infuriating."
"Tell me something I don't know."
"That doesn't leave much." They each turned their heads to the sound of Blaine's voice, and Sebastian tilted his head back in order to receive a kiss from his husband. "Also, dinner should be here shortly."
"Pizza?" Sebastian replied.
"What else?" Devon responded as his Dad walked around to sit next to his Papa. "The stuff in Westerville isn't bad, but…"
"It's not the same." Sebastian said and he nodded. "Where are the girls B?"
"Setting the table." Blaine told him before leaning over to look at Devon. "Did you get your bag packed?"
"Yes, did that first thing after we got home."
"Thank you."
"Not a problem." Once he replied, the bell rang so Devon got up to go and get it. "Money?"
"It's on the table in the foyer." Blaine said before watching him head off down the hall and then leaning against Sebastian. "It feels good having all of them home."
"Yea it does." Sebastian replied before pressing a kiss to his forehead. "We need to talk later tonight B."
"What's wrong now?"
"Nothing, our princess got intel about why everything possibly happened in Lima."
"You mean besides him being immature?"
"Yes. Do I want to know how?"
"I'll explain it all tonight, promise."
When Devon returned with three pizzas, Sebastian looked at Blaine as the two of them got up from the couch to head to the kitchen. "We have three teenagers Bas, remember."
"Good point." Blaine's statement was punctuated when Devon exclaimed how hungry he was upon setting the boxes on the counter. Plus if he over did it, leftover pizza never lasted long in their home, regardless of who was there. They'd barely gotten their slices on their plates and their kids were already at the table eating. "So glad we instilled manners in them." Sebastian sarcastically stated upon witnessing the sight causing Blaine to simply shake his head.
"If I remember correctly, the last time I was home, you were eating a slice walking down the hall." Ainsley retorted making the others laugh.
"She's got you there Bas."
"Thanks for the back-up dear." The playful banter between the two not lost after twenty-one years of marriage.
"Anytime." Blaine replied, before kissing him on the cheek as he took a bite.
"We fly out tomorrow, right?" Juliette asked as she looked at her Dads.
"Yes, as soon as your Dad finishes up, we're off to the airport." Sebastian told her. "That means any visiting you all plan on doing, needs to be done in the morning. For as soon as he gets home, we're out of here."
"Are you going to work tomorrow Papa?" Devon asked.
"Yes, but I'll only be there for a couple of hours in the morning as Thad, Hunter, and I have a few things to discuss before I leave."
"Are they taking over your cases while you're gone?" Ainsley inquired.
"Yes, but technically, they shouldn't have to do anything unless something major happens while we're gone."
"What about you Dad, when do you think you'll be home so we know when to be back by?"
"Eleven at the latest since my last appointment finishes at ten, and I only have a few things to discuss with Quinn before I go." Blaine replied before glancing at Sebastian who in the process of taking a bite. "So, best case scenario you should all be back here no later than ten thirty."
"Better we wait on you than you wait on us." Devon chimed in.
"If you're not here you can spend spring break with your Aunt and Uncle." Sebastian countered causing the girls to laugh. "That goes for the two of you too. Your Dad and I need this vacation probably more than the three of you do." Not a one of the kids argued this point as they all knew how hard their Dads work.
"You're still going to take us scuba diving, right?" Juliette asked as ever since she got her certification the year before she looked forward to every chance she got to do so.
"Of course we're still going to scuba dive." Blaine assured her. "And we'll snorkel and all those fun things you three love to do. This trip is all about us relaxing and spending time together as a family." When Ainsley looked over at Sebastian, he gave her a reassuring smile that they'd go diving too as Juliette couldn't go as deep as everyone else, something he and Blaine had already discussed.
While Sebastian initially questioned Blaine ordering three pizzas, when there was less than one left when you combined slices from each, it was evident he'd made the right call. And knowing their kids, what was left would be gone before they caught their flight the next day. Since they'd gone the relatively simple route for dinner, clean-up didn't take long and soon their kids were all before the television playing video games. With the three of them occupied, Blaine and Sebastian headed for their bedroom so Sebastian could change and the two could talk.
"I know you mentioned we'd talk later, but I'd like to know what's going on now so I'm able to go to sleep tonight." Blaine said to Sebastian as he tossed his shirt into the hamper after hanging his tie on the rack.
"First of all, Theo called Ben after everything happened and in turn he called Ainsley." Sebastian replied. "Needless to say, Devon left out a few details, but we assumed he had."
"Please tell me he didn't instigate things."
"You can rest easy, he didn't, but his temper almost did get the better of him." Sebastian told him as calmly as he could. "After her conversation with Ben, our darling daughter took it upon herself to reach out to Rachel." Seeing Blaine lean his head back, and then rub his temples didn't come as a surprise. "Rachel clearly knew because Jacob had called and told her what happened, as did her Dads. Plus, Finn called her as Christina had filled him in on the entire situation."
"Please tell me Finn wasn't happy about what happened since Christina was present."
"He was pissed that Hummel embarrassed her, but offered up some information that would at least explain his outburst." When Blaine crossed his arms over his chest, Sebastian smiled knowing Blaine wouldn't accept any explanation for Kurt going after their son. "His partner recently left him and he isn't taking it well."
"Not our problem, nor is it Devon's." Blaine stated.
"You do know our son goaded him without knowing this information by stating how happy and in love we are still after all these years."
"Again, not our problem. He had no right to take out his feelings on anyone, let alone our son, and then put him in a situation where he basically is compelled to defend us. Devon's a kid Bas, Kurt's the fucking adult!" Even though they'd been keeping their voices down, the volume of Blaine's voice grew as his frustration did to the point their kids could hear. Without saying a word about it as he knew how his husband felt, Sebastian crouched down before him and took his hands in his.
"None of this is our fault B, it was more a matter of Devon being in the wrong place at the wrong time."
"That's not an excuse Bas."
"Never implied it was, just gave a possible explanation for why it happened."
"I don't care about what is happening in his life, it gave him no right to lash out at Devon or the other boys for that matter." Blaine said to him. "While that might sound cold, I don't care. From the moment we found out what happened, I flashed back to all the crap he put us threw Bas and…it only made me angrier. If it was up to me, our kids would have no idea who he is or the hell he put us through."
"We talked about that B, we agreed we had to be honest with them."
"I know, but right now, I can't help but blame myself for putting him in the crossfire."
"Blaine, you did no such thing." Sebastian assured him. "What would you say if I told you I blamed myself because he looks so much like me? That the reason Hummel chose him as his target was because there's no denying he's biologically mine."
"If he looked like me, he would've done the same thing. Clearly while he moved on with his life, he didn't let go of everything that happened between all of us."
"To quote my brilliant husband, it's not our issue."
"Yet that animosity was taken out on our son. Regardless of the reasons behind it, Devon got stuck in the middle."
"And according to everyone, handled himself well, but what else would one expect when he has parents as wonderful as us." Sebastian's statement put a smile on his husband's face. "Easy as it is to blame ourselves B, this isn't about us, it's about Hummel and the fact that he's unhappy."
"Amazing how much things change, some things don't." Sebastian then stretched to give Blaine a kiss before giving his hands a squeeze. "Nice try at distracting me."
"If I was trying to distract you, it would entail more than a simple kiss my love, and our bedroom door wouldn't be open." He then kissed him once again. "I'd have no objection to distracting you in that manner though, get a head start on some of our vacation plans." When he went to kiss his neck, Blaine sighed softly as even after all these years he was putty in Sebastian's hands. "What do you say Killer?"
"Once they go to bed, I'm yours to do with what you like."
"B, Ainsley's a night owl and who knows the hours Devon keeps now."
"Fine, when we head to bed given we have to each head into the office tomorrow, they won't think twice about us heading to bed at our usual time."
"Fair enough."
When the two of them joined their kids after changing, it only took one look from the three of them to let them know their kids heard them. "Are you okay Dad?" Devon asked as he looked over at them once they got comfortable on the love seat.
"How much of that did the three of you hear?"
"Enough." Ainsley replied causing Blaine to sigh and Sebastian to tug him a bit closer.
"I'm okay Dad." Devon told him as Juliette moved from her spot to curl up next to him.
"I know, but it doesn't mean I'm comfortable that the situation even occurred. Nothing going on with him gave him the right to say what he did or behave in the manner he did." Blaine said in response as he slipped his arm around Juliette. "While he lashed out at others, you were the recipient for the brunt of his anger and frustration." For as seldom as Blaine got upset or frustrated, his tone in this moment was one that his kids knew all too well as it was something they didn't ever enjoy hearing.
Even Sebastian knew what Blaine was feeling wasn't going to be passing anytime soon so he wanted to change the subject to something more pleasant. "What is the first thing you all plan on doing after we get settled?" Sebastian asked them.
"Go swimming." Devon replied and his sisters chimed-in in agreement. "What about you?"
"The same, then lounge about lazily on the beach."
"What about you Dad?"
"Same." Blaine replied yet there was something off in the tone of his voice, at least as far as Sebastian was concerned, though the kids didn't seem to notice.
Once they decided to call it a night, but not before reminding Ainsley and Devon not to stay up too late as Juliette was heading to bed then, the two disappeared. While Sebastian did his best to keep his earlier promise, it was crystal clear his husband wasn't fully with him in that moment. "One would think after all these years you wouldn't be able to give me a complex, yet you have." Sebastian said as he looked down upon him, one hand on Blaine's hip the other helping to brace him. A soft sigh left Blaine before he reached up to cradle Sebastian's face in his hands. "Talk to me B."
"I feel inadequate."
"Excuse me, as you Blaine Anderson-Smythe are anything but inadequate."
"I wasn't able to protect our children from my past." Sebastian leaned forward a bit more in order to press a kiss to his lips. "Bas."
"For one, it's our past. Second, Devon's okay and managed to prove when it matters, he can rein in that temper of his due to your calming influence over him."
"Still."
"B, much as they're always going to be our babies, they're growing up, particularly Ainsley followed closely by Devon. Heck, Juliette is no longer our baby as she reminds us when we get a bit too protective."
"But our past shouldn't be an issue for them."
"Our past is only an issue because one individual can't seem to let go." Sebastian told him before moving a bit as this wasn't necessarily the best moment to be having this conversation given what they'd just started. "You are an incredible parent Blaine, don't think otherwise as this instance was out of either of our control."
"You're right."
"Of course I am." Sebastian teased before rolling his hips, pulling a soft moan from Blaine. "That's more like it, as I said before, complex."
"Sorry."
"It's okay, if anything was going to take your mind off of me in this moment, concern for one of our kids is acceptable. Guess I wasn't doing a good enough job of distracting you."
"Let's call it a temporary distraction." Blaine replied before wrapping his legs around him. "Start again?"
"Happily." Little did the two realize at that moment, they weren't the only ones talking, so were Ainsley and Devon.
Thinking the matter was put to rest at least for the time being, the last thing Blaine expected while getting dressed that morning was to hear a knock at his door only to find Devon standing there. After motioning for him to come in, Devon's hesitance was obvious. "Here I thought you were out running with Papa given how quiet things are around here." Blaine said lightly, hoping to get him to relax some. Yet once that didn't work, he motioned for him to sit on the bottom of their bed. "What's going on?"
"I think I made matters worse Dad." Devon told him, clasping his hands in his lap and rubbing them, much as Blaine did when he was trying to find the right words.
"In what regard?"
"After you and Papa went to bed last night, Ainsley and I got to talking and…I might've vented a bit more frustration than I knew I was holding in. And…" Blaine reached over and placed a hand over Devon's causing him to look at him. "Ainsley's not here."
"Excuse me?"
"She's not here. I went to knock on her door and, it was open so…I pushed it further and, she's not here. Her bed is made and her purse and phone are gone." Blaine leaned his head back before taking a deep breath as getting upset in that moment was the last thing Devon needed.
"Where do you believe she went?" Devon slipped one of his hands out from beneath his Dad's and reached into his shorts pocket to hand Blaine a piece of paper. "What's this?"
"Hummel's address." Blaine cocked his eyebrow as he looked at his son. "Don't ask." Blaine sighed softly before getting up raking his fingers through his hair before going into his closet for his shoes. "What are you going to do?"
"Stop your sister before she does something she regrets."
"I'm sorry Dad, I really am."
"I know, but we will talk about this later, with Papa." Devon hung his head as he knew he deserved the tone Blaine was using as he was trying not to raise his voice since Juliette was still sleeping. He then watched as Blaine grabbed his wallet, phone, and keys off the dresser before giving him a kiss on top of his head and heading out. No sooner was he gone, did Devon find himself moving up on the bed and curling up, much as he did when he was little. There was something calming about curling up in his Dads' bed that he didn't quite understand, yet his sisters felt the same way.
Before Blaine was even out of their home he was trying to reach Ainsley, yet she wasn't answering which didn't surprise him. Either she was in a place where she couldn't hear her phone or she was purposely ignoring him. Upon reaching the lobby, Blaine didn't hesitate asking when Ainsley left, luckily for him she only had about a ten minute head start on him. Of all the impulsive things she could've done, he couldn't believe she was going to confront Kurt for his behavior. He was on the subway when his phone went off and it was Sebastian. "You should've waited for me to come home."
"Like you would've waited if the roles were reversed." Blaine stated earning laugh from Sebastian who knew he had a point. "How's Devon?"
"When I got back he was curled up in our bed with Joel of all things." Blaine couldn't help but smile at the thought of the image Sebastian described. "You need to keep your emotions in check Killer, no matter how hard it may be."
"Trust me, I know. Why'd she do this Bas?"
"She's you. I will make my shower quick should you need to reach me."
"Good to know."
"And B, last thing I want to do before we leave for vacation is bailout my husband and daughter."
"Smart ass."
"You married me."
"I did, didn't I?" Blaine teased, hoping it would help himself to relax and drawing a chuckle out of Sebastian. "It's something I've never regretted."
"Neither have I, now go bring our daughter home."
"Will do."
While he was still on the subway, Ainsley was making her way up the front steps of Kurt's building just as he was exiting. "Just the person I was looking for." She stated, causing him to stop in tracks.
"Do I know you?" Kurt asked as he took a good look at her before sighing, recognizing who she was. "I don't have time for your nonsense."
"Nonsense? Is that what you call taking out a twenty plus year grudge on a sixteen year old?" Ainsley replied. "Neither my brother nor the rest of the guys deserved the crap you spew at them that day."
"What happened that day, is none of your business." Kurt stated before trying to get around her, something she wasn't going to let happen.
"You went after my brother, my Dads, that makes it my business!" Ainsley told him. "What gave you the right to lay a hand on my brother?"
"I simply stopped him from walking away from me."
"Much like you tried to get my Dad to do numerous times, you should've learned then doing so doesn't work out too well."
"You have no idea what happened between me and your Dad."
"I know more than you think. Not only have my Dads been rather honest with us, but my friends' parents filled them in on some of your pathetic antics as well."
"You need to watch your mouth young lady."
"Or what, you going to hit me like you did my Papa?" Ainsley asked, her attitude starting to show fully. "Did you ever think the reason your life turned out the way it did has nothing to do with my Dads, but because you're simply intolerable and people can only take so much?"
"I shouldn't be surprised that you have such a smart mouth on you being their daughter." Kurt told her. "I might've expected more from a child of Blaine's, but clearly Sebastian had quite the influence on you growing up."
"You haven't seen nothing yet, as I am every bit the bitch necessary as you thought my Papa was a bastard. So I'm going to say this once, should you ever cross paths with my brother or sister turn around and walk away."
"Or what little girl?"
"Do you really want to know what would happen should you get near one of my kids again Kurt?" The sound of Blaine's voice brought each of their attention to the bottom of the steps. Then with only a look from Blaine, Ainsley was down them and standing beside him.
"Long time no see Blaine."
"Not long enough." Blaine replied before checking on Ainsley to make sure she was alright. " You know, I'd basically put you out of my mind, yet you had to go and go after my son."
"Your son has an attitude problem." Kurt stated. "And for the record, I didn't know he was your son till after I put him in his place."
"More like attempted to." Ainsley mumbled causing Blaine to have to stifle a laugh and Kurt to glare at her.
"Nice to see you raised your kids without manners, they're as arrogant as your husband."
"While my husband may be arrogant at times, he has manners, as do our children. They simply choose not to use them when dealing with people that don't deserve courtesy." Blaine replied. "And from what I was told by numerous sources, while Devon might've copped a bit of an attitude, you deserved it. Particularly when you dared to lay a hand on him."
"It wasn't what you think Blaine."
"Given your history of grabbing people, I highly doubt it. So I'm going to make myself clear, I don't care what is going on in your life as nothing gave you a right to lay a hand on my son or speak to him in the manner in which you did." He told him rather adamantly. "And should you go near any of my children again, I will have Sebastian unleash every legal option available to us to ensure you never get near them again."
"You speak rather highly of your husband's supposed skills."
"You would too if you were married to one of the most successful and powerful attorneys in the Northeast." Blaine then slipped his arm around Ainsley's waist. "Should you dare be stupid enough to go near my children again, let alone me or Sebastian, it's a mistake you're going to regret as no one, messes with my family!"
"So much for the sweet boy I once knew."
"That sweet boy grew up once you started to make not only his life hell, but that of the man he loves. And if you think I'm protective of my husband, it's nothing compared to how protective I am of our children."
"And here I thought you put it all in past."
"I had till you went after Devon, and then I remembered all too vividly why I can't stand you." The tone Blaine had been using was unlike anything Ainsley had ever heard before. And while her Papa could be scary she was getting a firsthand lesson of why her Pap said to never cross her Dad as his bark was as bad as his bite. "Come now Ainsley, time to go home."
"Remember, your daughter came after me!" Kurt called out as they started to walk away causing Blaine to stop in his tracks.
"Dad."
"I got this." Blaine told her before turning to face him. "She came after you because you attacked a sixteen year old boy simply because his parents are still happy and in love. Speaks volumes about the type of person you are, no wonder you're alone. Think on that!" And with that said, the two headed towards the subway so Ainsley could head home and Blaine to his office. Blaine half expected him to yell after them, but instead, he didn't say a word. He was either dumbstruck by what Blaine had said, or his words struck the chord attended. Either way, Ainsley was going to have one hell of a story to tell, though she hoped she never saw that side of him again, at least directed at her or anyone in the family.
