Shattered Moment

From the moment, their phones each went off, neither expected the raw emotion which was being expressed, let alone it being about the same incident. While Lexi was doing the best she could to stop her brother from hyperventilating. Cooper was trying to process everything he was being told by his Mom who was speaking a mile a minute through her tears. It only took one look at one another to know each the seriousness of the calls they were each in the middle of.

Lexi was still on the phone with Sebastian, when she grabbed her laptop from beside her to look for the next available flight to Ohio. She was in the midst of looking for a flight, when she keyed in on a statement Cooper made. Mom, you have to believe Blaine's going to be alright. In that moment, her stomach dropped as now Sebastian's broken sentences made even more sense. In particular, his statement, no one was supposed to get hurt.

Before their calls were even over, Lexi had booked them two seats on the next flight out which left in a matter of hours. "Should I even bother asking what your call was about that you booked us tickets to Ohio before I told you what was going on?" Cooper asked as he went to grab their bags from the closet. "Lexi, talk to me."

"How's Blaine?" She asked, unsure how much he knew and then, how to tell him Sebastian played a part in what happened to him.

"Waiting for a specialist from Columbus to… How do you know something is wrong with Blaine?" Cooper replied. "I haven't told you what my Mom called about."

"I heard you say she needs to believe he'll be alright." Lexi told him while taking a few things out of the dresser, her back to him at the time. Yet Cooper knew her well enough to know something wasn't right. So he set their bags on the bench at the bottom of their bed, and came up behind her, slowly turning her to face him. Even though the tears weren't falling yet, it was only a matter of moments till they did. Then the moment he cupped her cheek, they began to fall and she collapsed into him, and he wrapped his arms around her.

After pressing a kiss to the top of her head, Cooper took a deep breath before speaking. "Was that Sebastian on the phone?" She nodded as the tears hadn't stopped. "How did he know something happened to my brother?"

"Because he's the one that did it." She brokenly replied causing Cooper to pull back as his Mom didn't know how Blaine had gotten hurt. Furious as he was, Cooper knew he needed to try to keep his emotions in check. So, he slowly moved them towards their bed to sit down. Once they were seated, she raised her head to look at him. "You have to know it was an accident Coop, he'd never do anything to hurt Blaine."

"What the hell happened Lexi?"

"You know how it's no secret that my brother and Kurt don't get alone." Cooper nodded. "Well, after a big to-do about who was going to get to sing Michael at sectionals or regionals, one of those things. They ended up having a face-off of sorts, like in West Side Story."

"Blaine did that show."

"So I heard." Lexi replied as she wiped at her eyes, while looking at Cooper's tear stained shirt. "The rest is a bit of a blur since Sebastian was having issues forming coherent sentences. Yet from what I could make out, once it was over, he went to throw a slushie at Kurt and, Blaine jumped in the way and got it instead."

"Still doesn't explain why my brother is in the hospital."

"There was something in the slushie Coop." The quiet calm he was expressing had Lexi feeling uneasy as he wasn't known for keeping his composure when he was upset or angry. "It was supposed to ruin Kurt's clothes but…"

"Instead my brother got whatever the fuck it was in his eyes!" While the outburst was expected, it didn't mean it sat well with Lexi who went to move, yet he stopped her. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have snapped at you."

"It's okay. Your brother is hurt because of something mine did. How are we going to deal with this?"

"Well for starters, you should know my parents don't know how it happened. It seems no one is pointing fingers."

"Which means the other parties aren't necessarily innocent."

"Most likely. And the fact that Kurt didn't rat Sebastian out, tells me there is more going on here." Cooper then took a deep breath. "How's Sebastian?" Almost instantly she got a confused look on her face. "How is he?"

"Worried sick, and not for himself." She then raked her fingers through her hair. "I can't believe I'm going to ask you this but, don't tell your parents Sebastian had anything to do with this, at least not yet."

"I won't, as right now their focus needs to be on helping Blaine get better."

"What if they ask?"

"They won't, as why the hell would I know anything."

"I hadn't thought of that. I hate this Cooper."

"So do I." He said before pressing a kiss to her forehead. "Do you want to stay with my parents or…"

"I think it's best we get a hotel, or at least I do, as this isn't quite how our brothers should learn we're together."

"Good point." Although he agreed with her, the next thing she heard was him sigh.

"What's wrong?"

"This might sound selfish, but I don't want this mess between our brothers, coming between us."

"If it's selfish, you're in good company since I share the sentiment." Lexi told him before pressing a kiss along his jaw. "Considering your earlier statement, I have a feeling there's a lot more to this situation than we even imagine. So while I'm with Sebastian I'll try and get it from him as he's pretty honest with me."

"What do you want me to do?"

"Be there for Blaine and for your parents, it's what they and you need right now. The rest will fall into place when it's time." Cooper slowly nodded in response. "In the meantime, we need to get packing as we don't have much time till we need to leave for the airport.

Considering the time of night they arrived, each knew it was best they get a good night of sleep before facing what lied ahead of them. Since the hospital Blaine was at, was in Columbus, Cooper simply hailed a cab the next morning while Lexi took their rental car to Dalton. Even though it was still rather early, she had enough information regarding Sebastian's schedule to know his day hadn't started yet. After signing in at the office, Lexi was told where she should be able to find her brother as first bell hadn't rung yet.

Upon making her way into the Warblers' common room, it didn't take long for all eyes to be on her. Given the state of mind they were all in, they were a bit hesitant to ask who she was looking for. Yet considering the way she was clearly looking for someone, Thad made his way towards her. "May I help you?"

"Yes, I'm looking for Seb…Sebastian Smythe."

"And you are?"

"Alexis, his sister." The expressions that appeared on all of their faces didn't surprise her, yet she wasn't going to comment about it, no matter how tempting. "Please guys, where can I find my brother."

"He doesn't really want to see anyone right now." Jeff told her as he rose from his chair. "He's not…"

"Guys, he called me last night, I know something went down with Blaine. Where's my brother?"

"He's in our dorm room." Thad said in response, as while she might be petite, she clearly wasn't someone to mess with. "Do you need the number?"

"No, I know which one it is. Just point me in the right direction." Thad proceeded to give her directions to the room, and then with only a thank you, she was on her way."

"Since when does Sebastian have a sister?" Beat asked from across the way.

"Probably not the time to ask why we don't know about her." Nick told him. "I'm just glad he called someone given the state he was in when we got back here." A sentiment so simple, yet one all of them agreed with as he'd essentially shut them all out after leaving the garage to Blaine's screams.

After knocking on the door numerous times, she was about to give up when it finally opened. Although he was happy to see her, Sebastian couldn't even muster up a smile. Instead, he stepped back so she could come in. By the time she closed the door, Sebastian was back lying in bed. "Take it you're not going to class today." Sebastian didn't response, just stared up at the ceiling as she took a seat next to him. "Talk to me Seb."

"What's there to say besides I fucked up royally this time, and I wouldn't be surprised if I'm arrested before the day is done. So going to class, is a bit pointless, not to mention there is no way in hell I'd be able to concentrate since I basically got no sleep last night." He then slowly pushed up onto his elbows. "What are you doing here?"

"Did you really think I wouldn't come to you when you needed me?" When he shrugged his shoulders, she pulled him up and into a hug, quickly reminding Sebastian how strong she was. It didn't take long once her arms were around him for him to start to cry. "It's going to be okay Seb."

"You don't know that, no one does." Sebastian replied. "Last we heard Blaine was waiting for a specialist to determine the damage. I never meant for this to happen Lexi."

"I know, I know." She assured him as she gently rubbed his back. "Just know that no matter what happens, I'm here for you." Sebastian thanked her as he tried to catch his breath. "Do, do you want me to call Dad?"

"No!"

"Seb."

"I said no!" Sebastian exclaimed as he pulled away from her. "This is the last thing Dad fucking needs right now!"

"He's a lawyer Seb."

"He's fucking State's Attorney Lexi, this could ruin his fucking career."

"It's not going to ruin Dad's career."

"You don't know that."

"Neither do you. Now, you need to tell me the whole story, otherwise I can't help y…" Her words were cut off as her phone went on, causing her to take it from her pocket. "One second."

In waiting room with my Mom. My Dad's with Blaine and the specialist. Will fill you in once I know more. Love you.

After sending off a quick response, Lexi brought her attention back to Sebastian. "Was that the mystery man?"

"Why do you ask that?"

"You smiled."

"Yes, it was him."

"When do I get to meet him?"

"When the time is right, now, tell your big sister how things went so wrong."

While Lexi was getting Sebastian's side of things, Cooper was sitting beside his Mom, waiting for news. "Why wouldn't they let me stay with him Cooper?" Carolyn asked as she leaned against her son who had his arm around her.

"If I recall correctly, the surgeon said only one of you could stay and you told Dad to stay with him, as he'd be more likely to keep a clear head right now." Cooper said while tightening his hold on her. "Hopefully it won't be long till Dad comes out and tells us what's going on." Carolyn then turned and kissed him on the cheek. "What was that for?"

"For being here. Words can't even properly describe how I felt seeing you in the doorway this morning. Why didn't you tell us you were coming?"

"Because you and Dad needed to focus on Blaine." Just as he spoke, his phone went off, and Carolyn told him it was alright to get it.

Thanks for the heads up. With Seb, he's a mess, but his biggest concern is Blaine so that will help. Fyi, this situation is more messed up than we could've imagined. Give your family my love, let them know I'm thinking of them. Love you.

Once he put his phone back in his pocket, Carolyn took ahold of his hand which was over her shoulder. "Was that Alexis?"

"What makes you think that?"

"It would take someone pretty special to make you smile like that given what's going on with Blaine."

"It was, and she sends her love, and hopes everything goes well."

"From her mouth to God's ears." She then looked towards Blaine's room. "Did she understand you having to leave so quickly?"

"She booked the flight."

The next thing the two saw was a shadow, bringing their attention upward. Yet standing before them was neither Gregory or the specialist, but Cameron Duval. When Carolyn got up from her seat, it was obvious to Cooper she knew who this was. "Any word on Blaine yet?" He asked.

"The specialist is in with him now."

"And Greg?"

"With them."

"He's one of the best in the region Carolyn, if anyone can help Blaine, it's him." Cameron told them before looking at Cooper.

"I'm sorry Cameron, this is my other son, Cooper. Cooper, this is Dr. Cameron Duval."

"Why does that name sound familiar to me?"

"Do you happen to know Blaine's friend Nick?"

"I've heard the name."

"That's my son." He then checked the time. "If there is anything you need Carolyn, don't hesitate to ask. If I'm not nearby, simply ask them to page me."

"Thank you Cameron." Once the two exchanged a hug, he headed off to see a patient. "Why'd you look at Cameron strangely."

"I didn't look at him strangely." Cooper replied, though he probably had since he recalled that Nick was a Warbler, so he was most likely there when this happened.

"Cooper." Thankfully he was saved by his Dad coming out to get them as the specialist headed off. "What's going on Dad?"

"Blaine's going to need surgery, the surgeon is actually going to arrange it now." Gregory told them as he slipped his arm around Carolyn who was clearly upset. "From what he could see, there doesn't seem to be any significant damage, but he didn't want to say for certain till he gets a closer look.

"Blaine's not going to be blind, is he?" Cooper asked.

"He said the chances of that happening are slim, but his vision could be damaged, but he didn't want to speculate."

"May I go see him?"

"You may, just remember to not turn on the lights as he's extremely light sensitive right now."

"Of course."

Before making his way into the room, Cooper sent the latest update to Lexi. Not only so she was aware of what was going on, but so she'd be able to better handle things with Sebastian. When she received the latest text, Sebastian was asleep with his head on her lap. Learning that Blaine was going to be heading into surgery that day, made her heart sink. Not only because she knew any surgery was risky, and for the pain the Andersons were going through. But also because once Sebastian woke up, she'd have to tell him that the boy she was certain he was smitten with, was going in for surgery all because of a prank gone wrong in the worst way possible.
