"I can't believe Gil forgot." Lagoona stomped her wet flipflop onto the Monster High parking lot. "You can't rely on boys for anything."
"Obviously." Cleo chipped in "Well maybe not all men, but I'm just lucky I guess."
"It's ok." Clawdeen said smiling sarcastically with a fang out "Clawd says Gil's sorry~"
"As if that makes up for it" Lagoona huffed.
"Wait, so he's with Clawd?" Draculaura asked.
"Yeah at their creepover." Clawdeen kept texting presumably her brother.
"Creepover.." Frankie mumbled. "Heath mentioned something about that. Is Jackson there?"
"Holt is I think. Why?" said Clawdeen.
"So … he's not at home.." Frankie murmured.
Clawdeen stopped, looking concerned. Then looking at Draculaura for reassurance. "Frankie. You gotta stop stalking this guy."
"What?" she squeaked "I'm not stalking him."
"Mmm you kind of are though?" Clawdeen looked at Draculaura "Back me up here, ghoul."
"I think Frankie's being completely reasonable." Draculaura said with eyes closed "Besides. She thinks he's lying to her. And you know that's nothing to start a relationship on. Trust me, I have experience"
"Oh that is not even why you're supporting this kind of behavior." Clawdeen rolled her eyes "You might not drink blood, but you know what? You drink drama."
"What?" Draculaura seemed over offended "Clawdeen! That is so rude of you. I'm just supporting Frankie as my friend!"
She blinked and put a hand to her mouth "But you know, I do live right next to him. Liiike… across the street. If you wanted to stop by~?"
Frankie bit her lip.
As if to push the idea into normalcy Draculaura squealed, "Oh my ghoul, you know what. Let's just go to my place anyway. We can have a slumber party too!"
"I'll have to pass." Cleo replied, despite no one specifically asking her, she twiddled her hair "Ghoulia and I have to make sure my party tomorrow night is perfect."
The six ghouls stopped at a traffic stop and Cleo looked between everyone. Before finally turning to look back to where they'd been walking, where Ghoulia was trailing behind; hunched over and doing something on her phone.
Cleo sighed but silently seemed to command everyone wait for her.
"What are you planning on doing at his house?" Lagoona asked.
"Um. I just feel like maybe there might be more answers there" Frankie shrugged.
"It's not like you can just break in Frankie." Clawdeen pointed out "Not even going to start on how creepy that is."
"I'm not!" Frankie defended. "I mean… maybe someone's home?"
"His mom might be" Draculaura pointed out "Not like I notice those kinds of things…"
"It's just him and his mom right?" Frankie remembered something Heath said.
"From what I've seen." Draculaura confirmed "At first I thought having normies on my street would be weird, but they seem ok. Sometimes they give my dad blood from the hospital. It's gross but dad likes it."
"Maybe she's scared he'll come after them next" Lagoona chuckled "Oh! If we're having a slumber party can we watch scary normie movies! I know you have them."
"As long as you ghouls get your beauty rest for my party" Cleo pushed in "A queen's entourage has to look almost as regal as her." Ghoulia finally sidled up behind her, only for Cleo to grab her hand and start dragging her off in the opposite direction of where they were heading "Remember ghouls! Gold!"
"Gold?" Frankie quietly asked the other ghouls.
"It's the party color" Clawdeen explained rolling her eyes. Then sighed "Ok we can check out his place."
Frankie beamed.
"It looks normal." Frankie cocked her head standing across the street from Draculaura's house.
"It is a normie house." Draculaura pointed out "It just looks extra normal compared to my place."
Frankie turned around to look at the haunted mansion esque place Draculaura lived in. Then back to Jackson's.
The four remaining ghouls stood on his sidewalk behind some decorative shrubbery not sure where to go from here.
"Maybe Clawdeen's right…" Lagoona pointed out "About the snooping."
"I just. Should go. Knock." Frankie reassured herself. "Just be polite and honest. And if no one answers. Then we just go have a slumber party."
"We'll be right behind you." Draculaura said supportively. "Like right, here actually. Exactly right here behind you."
The ghouls all collectively crouched down behind the bush, giving Frankie a thumbs up.
"I'll keep my ears open." Clawdeen sighed giving in.
"Thanks ghouls." Frankie took a deep breath and walked up his steps, ringing the doorbell.
Counting silently to herself.
She didn't have an exact plan but, she knew if one was always polite, and straightforward. Usually things went ...well.
After another 10 seconds she considered going back, when she heard shuffling of someone inside. Tensing up she put on a bright smile as the door was opened part way.
"Oh." she blinked. She looked very normie. Pale skin with much more life than Frankie's own. Black silky hair in a messy bun. Bangs and glasses not unlike Jackson, but older, prettier. Her clothes suggested she was a nurse or something, but Frankie knew better.
"Hello. Dr. Jekyll." She tried to be as sweet as possible, hoping her green skin didn't come off as undesirable.
"Huh. Dead…" she mumbled.
"What?" asked Frankie.
"Oh. Nothing." she quipped back quickly "What did you need? If this is like a school fundraiser thing, I'd just buy through Jackson…You're like a friend?" she squinted.
"Kind of…" Frankie couldn't help but smile thinking of being 'more than friends'.
"Oh." his mom seemed to catch on. And suddenly Frankie felt embarrassed. Pressing forward.
"I was actually here about Jackson." Frankie started, cut off.
"He's not here right now."
"Oh I know just-"
"Who's that, sweetie?" called a voice deeper inside the house. Male sounding.
Frankie tried to peek in to see who, as Jackson's mom seemed to freeze up and shut the door more.
"Actually. I have to go." Dr. Jekyll started backing back in.
"Hun-bun?" Frankie heard the voice again.
Jackson's mom looked more annoyed if anything.
"I was just wondering-" Frankie tried to press on, and get a better look.
"You'll have to come back later." she was cut off completely, closing the door in her face.
Frankie was stunned, but, maybe got her answer.
She walked back to the ghouls, mind racing with the new possibilities.
"Wow who was that." Clawdeen asked in a way that didn't sound like a question, possibly the only one who heard.
"A man…" Frankie mumbled. Then looked at Draculaura "Is his mom seeing someone?"
"Oh." Draculaura looked at their street, pointing at a van "Now that I think about it, that's not their car."
Frankie sighed "This explains everything. No wonder they're acting weird. His mom has a boyfriend and he's probably just like, acting out or something. I knew it was family related."
"Better than your other theory" Lagoona pointed out "That Jackson was sucking the life out of Holt, and that's why he was so tired in swim class." she half giggled at the thought.
"Hey. That was a legitimate theory. It happens with twins in the womb all the time."
"But they aren't twins." Draculaura added "Well kind of."
"And not in the womb?" Clawdeen said more pointedly, like she was being weird again. "But yeah that was weird. Whoever Melvin is."
"Melvin?" Frankie asked.
"Oh after she shut the door, I couldn't hear that well, but it sounded kind of like she said, 'Don't call me that, Melvin'" Clawdeen twitched an ear "That or 'won't collie the elvens' but I think the first way makes more sense."
"Did you hear anything else?" Frankie asked.
Clawdeen shrugged "I mean the door was closed, I'm a werewolf not a superhero."
"Now that that's out of the way" Lagoona pointed out "You can focus on having a fearriffic ghouls night in" she put her hand on Frankie's shoulder squeezing her in a side hug.
Frankie sparked at the thought "Fangtastic."
