The continuous screaming had stopped but as the whimpers rose and the strangled choking became more pronounced the uneasiness among the ANBU grew.
Newt pulled down her hood and ran a frustrated hand through her hair, resisting the urge to scream herself, fearful for what may come out of from behind the doors, head rising she barked at Monkey."Well!"
The usually easy going ANBU shook his head, shoulders tense as he explained. "The camera's been disabled from inside."
Footsteps thundered through the corridor, Wren and three more captains making their way towards the barricaded door. "What's going on? Why the amber alert?"
Before anyone could address Wren's question a wailing scream filled the air, pitching so sharp and agonizing a wince went down many spines.
The light haired captain that had arrived with Wren gave a low whistle. "Morino's really pissed."
"It's not Ibiki, it's Kaida!"
Horrified silence met Newt's words.
"What the hell happened. "Wren hissed fear for the little girl she had watched grow rising as the screaming continued.
"I don't have a fucking clue." Newt spat back clenching her fists as her own anger and concern over Kaida rose.
"It's not our Angel anyway." Monkey commented, hands folding over his chest as he added his bit, head tilting as the screaming lowered in tone but kept on going. "She walked straight in here without a word, the look in her eye . . .i've only ever seen the like when Ibiki and Sakura went after . . .you know."
Everyone knew who Monkey referred to, it was a time none truly liked to remember, Ibiki and Sakura had been worse than unpredictable, dangerous ferel animals hunting the man that tried to kill Kaida down. What they had done to him was a horror story that served as a warning by many nations.
"Wha-"
"Have you seen Angel!" Sasuke shouted rushing down the hall, blood covering his uniform and an unusually – since he and Anko had been together - hard glint in his eye. As he reached the ANBU the screaming rose to a fever pitch before suddenly ending.
An uneasy silence filled the corridor, Sasuke looking at the ANBU and with mounting fear to the door behind them as he spoke. "Ibiki, Seko and Juca were found nearly two hours ago, ambushed and wounded. Ibiki severly. Some idiot went straight to Angel, she ran in to the ER to find Sakura working on Ibiki, Tsunade helping, Seko and Juca were forcibly knocked out by the medics when they refused to cooperate insisting on hunting down their attackers that were one of the S-Class rogues captured the other day. Idiots told Angel about the rogues not that the boys were alive. She ran out and hasn't been seen since."
A click broke the air, all eyes instantly falling on the door. Slowly it opened a blood stained hand holding it back as Kaida stepped forward to be seen, her clothes were relatively clean, a few spots here and there, the blood already drying, but the splatter on her face and hair and neck where she had reached up to put her hair behind her neck were more pronounced, evidence that it had been a hands on job.
But it was her eyes that had them all shocked. No hint of fun, joy, youth or innocence they were as hard as the emerald colour they shone but now held a darkness that they all recognised, a darkness that Ibiki's and Sakura's had held for a long time. She had stared into the abyss and it had stared back.
"Their alive?"
Sasuke nodded his head.
Swallowing slightly Kaida remembered the sight of her Dad, lifeless on the gurney , blood dripping onto the floor, scapels and tubes being thrown from medic to nurse to her Mom to her Grandma. It had been the tears in her Mom's eyes that had scared her, the growling threats from her to Dad that he had to live, that he had better. She had run from the room about to vomit when she had seen Seko and Juca lying on gurneys not even moving as medics poked and prodded them.
At that moment she had simply stopped. Turned her head from the sight of her Dad to her boys.
Everything around her moved and stopped at the same time, her knees knocked and her head throbbed as all sound had disappeared apart from the beeping that signalled her Dad's heart , the beep that became a long tone and then she couldn't breathe.
She choked and nearly fell, the words rogue coming to her ears as suddenly the beeping resumed and latching onto the form of her Dad, cried in relief as her Mom did so literally, nearly falling on his body as Tsunade moved her away.
Rogue. Rogue. Rogue. Rogue. Rogue. Rogue.
Seko and Juca had not moved and Kaida wondered if they ever would.
Tears threatened and in a blink they were gone, cold anger filling her veins as Kaida stood tall, straightened her back and ran with one destination in mind.
Now looking up into her Uncle's eyes ,she steeled herself, she could feel the blood under her fingernails, filling the cuticles and knuckles on her hand, her hair was simply filthy and she doubted the spots of blood would ever come out of her favourite top, her ears were ringing from the rogue's screams but Kaida could not find it in herself to care. Licking her lips she tasted sweat, tears and the rogue's blood as she nearly pleaded. "All of them?"
Sasuke stepped forward but a flash in Kaida's eye's had him dropping the hand that was about to bring the girl into him for a hug and gave her his most solemn promise. "My word as a Uchiha and a member of Team Seven."
In front of all the ANBU and her Uncle, Kaida's shoulder's dropped and her face filled with relief, a breif prayer to Kami and she turned to look Newt in the eye, letting go of the door and with her other hand handing the ANBU a piece of paper.
"Details of the rogue camp and numbers are here, bring them all in, those you can't make sure their dead. Do not start the interrogations with out me.
Order given Kaida turned and walked down the corridor, not caring that she had left her Uncle and the ANBU behind her stunned. Stunned but not questioning her orders as the moment she was out of sight teams were organised and sent out, Sasuke following his niece and making sure she was brought to the right hospital room.
It was dark when she entered the hospital room, having glimpsed Seko and Juca being discharged and obviously in one piece she couldn't bring herself to near them only nodding at them and following Sasuke up the stiars. Without a sound she entered the room, closing the door behind her and falling into her Mom's embrace, tears quickly falling as Sakura held her tight and let her cry. Brought to sit down in the chair next to Sakura's Kaida cried soflty at the sight of Ibiki unconscious and attached to various machines, he swamped the bed, arms barely contained by the metal side bars and feet hanging off the edge the lower board bent down to try to lengthen the bed, all the visible wounds had been taken care of, only bruising on his face and hands evidence of the fight he put up.
"He'll be fine."
Kaida sniffed as Sakura spoke softly, her voice full of relief and pain. "No more ANBU missions despite the fact he says he doesn't, no more missions above B/A class in general, its time he retired from active field duty but we both know he'l dabble as long as he realises his limits.
Kaida snorted and Sakura painful laugh. "Yeah your Dad, won't really listen, he'll grumble, curse and give out but the active field work is over, he still has his baby - ANBU and T&I . he'll be here for a week, your Dad's had a lot of injuries over the years and I'm not taking any chances, he be in top shape when he gets out."
"Ready to terrorise." Kaida added, returning the hug Sakura gave her tightly and reaching out to hold Ibiki's free hand mindful of the IV and bandages.
Mother and Daughter sat for hours, dozing on and off waiting for the moment when Ibiki briefly woke up and said hi to his Hellcats and fell back asleep, silent tears of joy filling eyes as both Morino women truly sagged in relief.
As dawn broke over Konoha and began to fill the hospital room Kaida stood and covered her Mom with a blanket, silently opening the window and following in her Uncle Kakashi's footsteps left the room without a sound. Arriving back at ANBU headquarters she wasn't one bit surprised to meet Seko and Juca waiting for her outside the interrogation rooms. Uncaring of the eyes on her back she entered the room, her boys beside her and once again the halls filled with screams.
It was a lesson quickly learned and quickly spread.
Don't mess with what belongs to Morino Kaida.

Sorry its been so long but here you are, I'm slowly getting back into it. I posted a story a few weeks ago – To Rebuild a Clan, its mainly Ibiki/saku.
