Chapter Four
Rendezvous
"The Tree of Beginning holds a majestic, sacred power that sustains all forms of life here in the Kanto region. Mingled varying types of flora and Pokémon dwell within it. The tree draws energy and power from me, as I from it. Without the Tree of Beginning nor me, all life forms within these lands will cease. Hence, I must protect it from any threat, great or small."
Mew glanced into each Trainers' eyes, pleased to see them listen to her attentively. "I had a dream—a nightmare, actually. In that nightmare, there was this shadowy figure—a manifestation of evil intentions with an ambition to dominate and take over my powers, and accordingly, the world. Unbeknownst to this evil, everything will be destroyed. Humanity and Pokémon alike… will perish."
The Trainers felt their hearts burdened at Mew's words, finding themselves at a loss for words.
After the brief moment pervaded, Ash broke the silence with a question, "So all people and Pokémon would die? Just like that?" Pikachu jumped on his lap, and the young Trainer held on his friend tightly.
Mew responded with a timid nod.
"But this… this all just a bad dream, right?" asked Misty.
"I thought it was just a happenstance. Nightmares, after all, do not commonly repeat themselves. After that one nightmare, more came. Night after night, I saw this evil form return for me, threatening and harassing me. His manifestations seemed to have always changed each time I encountered it—from glowing evil eyes to the silhouette of a human," she continued. "And yet, another character remains present in all my dreams as well. His intentions, however, are also unclear to me."
"Mew, could this be?" Misty inquired, eyes widening. She and Togepi stared at the Pokémon, noticing her body shift slightly.
"Yes, it is Misty. It is Mewtwo."
The three Trainers gave a series of varying expressions. "Mewtwo? But he's good!" Ash argued. "I know he is! He saved me, Pikachu, our friends, and all those other Pokémon!"
"Yes, but Mew mentioned that his intentions are unclear. We cannot bear judgment without speaking it from Mewtwo himself," Brock rebutted.
"Yes Ash, Brock is right. But please, do not worry. I am not saying that Mewtwo desires us any harm. Although he is capable of such due to his savage heart, I strongly believe he is slowly and steadily changing. He is honest and honourable. He is starting to learn the value of life. But, he still needs time. He needs someone to teach him genuine, unconditional compassion," Mew smiled. Misty gave her a knowing look. The little pink Pokémon felt a blush tint her cheeks, making Misty's smile grow even wider. "Yet, I am glad that he has recognised such a unique kindness from you all."
"Wow, for someone you once battled and rivalled you speak of him so highly," Brock proudly grinned.
"I do not consider him a rival," Mew rectified. "I never did. He never was supposed to be in the first place…" The little Pokémon watched as the flowers outside danced with the tender breeze before resuming her story, "Mewtwo always appears in my dreams. On this particular one, he helped me defeat a shadowy account of him." She felt tension build up in her expression. "He told me that he intervened in my dream on purpose."
"Mewtwo… could do that?" Misty asked, surprised with the clone's superb psychic abilities.
"Yes, Misty. A few psychic-type Pokémon do possess such special ability. Yet in order to do so, one must have a strong connection with the other so their dreams may synchronise properly," explained Mew.
"Then that means: you two must have a real strong connection with each other!" Ash pointed out with a big smile. Pikachu beamed as well, seeming to agree with the raven-haired Trainer.
"Well, he was cloned from me. My biological make-up and his are expected to be most similar. He is no genetically closer to any other Pokémon than I."
"There's that but, you both care so much about the other Pokémon. I think that by heart, you two are close too!" Ash argued.
"Yeah! You're both so passionate about life and about sharing its wonders with others!" complimented Misty. "It's beyond the genes."
"I agree with Misty. It's not enough to say you're genetically similar, I'm guessing you both share a mysterious but extraordinary bond that's connected you two ever since," said Brock.
"You may all be correct. Life is indeed filled with mystery and wonder. I would want to believe so. It's a beautiful thought that despite our biological differences, Mewtwo and I could share a connection. Honestly, I… I just wish I could spend more time with him. He was always so content with his solitude." The pale fur of the Pokémon then began to liven into a brighter rosy glow. "I felt his sorrow. His loneliness. I knew what that felt like. And I just… I just wanted to be with him. If he'll let me…"
Misty smiled brightly. She was proud Mew finally accepted and recognised her feelings. Brock, recognising what Mew really meant to say, gave her a warm and knowing smile. "Well, Mewtwo is very lucky to have a friend like you," he told her.
Unsurprisingly, Ash was all but confused. He could not discern why or how someone could develop intimate feelings for someone they considered as their counterpart. He thought of the connection as nothing more than a bond, acquaintanceship, or even a friendship, rationalising that their personalities are way too different.
"That's really great and all Mew, but… why? You're the exact opposite Mewtwo," Ash blurted.
Misty sighed, and Brock face-palmed.
"All right, Ash. Let me explain this from the lady's perspective," Misty said, pointing out a finger as she initiated her lecture on love. "One, there are many reasons why a girl could fall in love with a guy. Most of the time, these reasons are totally vague! It could be that she may like him because she's attracted to his looks, his smarts, or well, maybe they complement each other! Two, a girl could also fall in love because the guy must have done something extra special for her. This doesn't necessarily mean daily visits with candies, chocolates, or flowers. No. It's more like: he has done something deeply touched her heart. Oh! And sometimes those special deeds don't have to be done directly for the girl—the guy may do it for someone else, and she may find out how admirable and awesome he really is!"
Brock and Ash gawked at their female comrade, a display of dumbfounded expressions.
"Oh, and I'm not done yet!" she winked. "A girl would only know if she really is in love if she sees herself spending the rest of her life with her one true love! Watching sunsets beside one another, cuddling, and sharing hugs and kisses! OHHH, how romantic!" Misty squealed and giggled as she squeezed her flushed cheeks.
"Boy that was a long lecture," Ash said, scratching the back of his head. "I feel like my brain just got zapped with all that romance information overload."
Mew chortled at her new friends. They were all hilarious. "Well done, Misty. I believe you may have covered a lot and I agree with some of your points. However, I think you may have forgotten one thing," she said, flying over to the girl.
Misty paused from her giggling. "Oh? And what's that Mew?"
"That you stay true to them as you are to yourself. You know their potential, and you bring out the best in them as they do you. With the unconditional care you keep for them, you are willing to protect them at any cost—even at the risk of your own life. It is one of the greatest sacrifices in life."
Misty's eyes sparkled. "Right, Mew! Truer words have never been spoken from the heart."
"Well, to make Ash understand this conversation a bit, I guess your opposite personalities would complement each other," Brock said. "It would be great to have you teach Mewtwo to… well, loosen up a little. He might have gotten a little stuck brooding on his purpose for being cloned from you."
Just as Brock had mentioned Mewtwo's name, Mew heard a sultry voice call out to her. She flew out the window and climbed higher until the peaks of the mountain that stretched over the horizon were in view.
"Mew, I sense you… Tell me where you are. I have need to speak with you."
"Mew, what's wrong?" Ash asked, concerned with Mew's sudden silence.
"Pika?" added Pikachu.
"I just heard someone call me. That voice… it must be Mewtwo! He is looking for me," Mew told the Trainers. "He is asking for where I am, saying that he needs to speak with me." She then closed her eyes and replied to him through the same kind of telepathy. "Your presence is strong, Mewtwo… I sense you too. I am here in Pewter City with the young Trainer whom I believe has ceased our battle before."
"You mean, the boy called 'Ash'? It is possible that your paths crossing was no mere coincidence. Meet me tonight by the spring hidden deep in the Viridian forest. I shall arrive once the moon reaches its peak in the evening sky. You may bring the boy and his friends if they wish."
When Mew no longer heard the sound of the voice, she slowly floated down and returned to where the three Trainers were discussing amongst themselves what could possibly be going on.
"So, what's the news, Mew?"
"Did you really get to speak to Mewtwo?"
"Is there anything we can do to help?"
Mew gave each youth a worried smile. She thought about what Mewtwo said and considered if she should bring the Trainers along with her. Of course, it may be nice to have Ash and his friends reunite with Mewtwo. However, this was a matter in which she did not want to involve others and put their lives at risk. Most especially that they were still young Trainers who had their lives ahead of them. Weren't they her new friends after all? What if everything was a trap? Then she would be placing her their lives in jeopardy.
"Yes," Mew began, mindful of what to say next. "I spoke with Mewtwo through telepathy. He needs to speak with me; thus, I will be meeting him tonight."
"That's great! We should come too," decided Ash.
"Yeah. We could help you out, Mew," Brock added. "Whatever problems you have, we'll definitely lend out a helping hand."
However, Mew shook her head. "No, it is too dangerous. We do not even know what we are up against."
"But Mew! We couldn't let you face your problems by yourself—!"
"I will not be alone. I… Mewtwo…" Mew suddenly recalled her dream where Mewtwo had left her to face the silhouetted man alone. Could it be that… would he leave me to face the dangers alone once again?
A soft hand touched her paw, breaking Mew from her thoughts. Misty gave the Pokémon a sincere and hopeful smile. "I know you're worried about our safety, Mew. We are too. But that's what friends do. We look out for each other, especially in these times when we aren't sure of the dangers we would be facing. I know you'd do the same for us."
Brock gave a firm nod. "Friends keep an eye out for each other. Through thick or thin. Come on, Mew. Let us help you."
Ash and Pikachu held up their thumbs. "You know you can always count on us! That's a promise."
If Mewtwo believed in them, then maybe I should too, Mew told herself. Sighing softly, she finally agreed. "I shall never forget your kindness, dear Trainers. I am certain that Mewtwo will be pleased to see you all again. We will meet him tonight in the hidden spring of the Viridian forest. For now, let us prepare ourselves for the unpredictable."
"Ah, yes… Magnificent! The History of the Tree of Beginning!" Giovanni exalted, holding the book high up in its full glory. "This shall be the key to unlocking the mystery of Mew—the most powerful Pokémon in existence! The Pokémon legends call as the Original One."
Domino seemed unimpressed. "Mew? How is that the most powerful Pokémon of all?"
Other elite Team Rocket members were also present in attendance. They were summoned to the meeting relative of their boss' new plans and missions for them. Chuckling to himself, Giovanni placed the thick, ageing book inside a machine that functions to decipher the ancient scriptures written within it. With a push of a button, the device projected each page of the text into a wide LED screen.
"This is why, my dear Domino," he initiated his explanation, pointing a red laser towards the screen. "Mew is an ancient Pokémon with powerful psychic capabilities—that is, teleportation, becoming invisible at will—!"
"Big deal, Espeon could outdo those psychic abilities," interjected Annie, an elite Team Rocket spy stationed in the Hoenn region.
"Silence! Do not cut me off," seethed Giovanni. "Moving on, this Mythical Pokémon possesses the genetic composition of every Pokémon born after its creation. It can learn any move possible, allowing it an infinite selection of attacks and defences, hence, making it quite invincible."
Giovanni's praise of Mew was what finally seized the elite members' interest and attention. "Perhaps then, it would only seem appropriate that such an extraordinary Pokémon be captured with…extraordinary methods."
"Huh?" Numerous puzzled reactions came from the audience.
"What's Giovanni got up his sleeve this time?" Oakley whispered to Annie.
"I have no idea, but I'm pretty sure it's another one of his ridiculously expensive missions again."
"Yes, no Pokéballs, Ultra Balls or even those time-consuming, financially problematic Master Balls. Conversely, I give you this!" announced Giovanni, pressing a large red button and materialising two large oval-shaped glossy machines on the platform. Each was about two and half feet tall, with green glowing spheres in the middle. "Now these machines cannot be destroyed by any measly physical or special Pokémon attacks. They are designed to paralyse the Pokémon who steps in between it and harness its powers to do my bidding!" he roared with a sinister laugh.
Clearing his throat, he continued, "According to the scriptures of this book, Mew accommodates life energy and power from this tree and vice-versa. The tree contains crystals powered by Aura, some mystical form of communication between humans and other living species. These crystals also contain an impressive life force which we can use to power up our new facilities. We won't be needing any electricity for that matter!"
The audience seemed to be pleased with the idea, engaging in feverish conversations with one another.
"Oh, yet...what is this? The scriptures warn us of the tree's biological defence mechanism. Only Pokémon can survive within the Tree of Beginning," he muttered. "Humans and other objects alien to the system, however, will be consumed by some sort of its white blood cells."
"Then maybe we'll just have to fight our way through," Domino suggested. "Those are just defence mechanisms, they won't fully affect the power of the Tree of Beginning and Mew, would it?"
"Indeed. Furthermore, there are these Legendary Golems said to protect the interiors and exteriors of the tree," said Giovanni. "Hmm…nothing a little advanced weaponry could not easily deal with. Now settle down as I introduce and assign you all your missions," he instructed.
"Phase one will involve the Team Rocket combat unit led by Marauder. Your mission is to destroy the defence mechanism of the Tree of Beginning. Make sure that it will be completely vulnerable to our invasion."
"Roger that, Sir Giovanni," affirmed Masked Marauder.
"Sensing that its home is in danger, Mew will surely come. This is phase two. Annie and Oakley, I'm assigning you both to capture that Mew. Take advantage of our machine. After we harness its powers, we can immediately initiate the construction of our new Team Rocket facilities. No time should be wasted."
"Got it, boss."
"Righty-o."
"Good. Now for phase three—!"
"Wait! S-Sorry to interrupt you, your majesty," Jessie interjected from the back.
"Yes, please hear out our query, your excellency!" added James.
"Wha—? Who are you? What have I told you about interrupting me?!"
"Why we're Team Rocket members too!" exclaimed Meowth. "And we just wanted to know about what to do with that Mewtwo."
"Mewtwo? What in the world are you imbeciles blathering about?"
"A Pokémon you cloned from Mew! Don't you remember?" Jessie answered as the three approached the podium where Giovanni presented.
"Indeed! You named it yourself as the most powerful Pokémon, too!" said James.
"Yeah, we just wanted to know how you plan to deal with him! Knowing he could always come up protecting all those other Pokémon," Meowth mentioned. "For sure, he'd help Mew save the tree too."
Giovanni thought to himself, Could these three pathetic idiots actually be telling me something worthwhile? I have no memory of this… I never had engaged with Mew until this mission, and Mewtwo, I have never considered a cloning experiment.
"I have no recollection of ordering such an experiment," Giovanni seethed. "What proof do you have of this 'Mewtwo'?"
"Well, Mewtwo might have wiped out your memory, Sir…" suggested Jessie. "It could do that with its psychic abilities."
"But please, take our word for it, Sir Giovanni! It could be a potential threat and is incredibly powerful!" James warned.
The Team Rocket leader furrowed his eyebrows. "I have no time for this! But… if you three speak the truth, this Mewtwo does seem to be a threat, indeed. I will reward each of you for warning me." His sly sneer then turned into a thin frown. "And if everything was all just a lie, you three will be gravely punished."
"Ahem," coughed Domino. "Um, phase three?"
"Initial phase three has been temporarily changed. I am assigning you to this 'Mewtwo'. If what those three say is true, it may be the most menacing adversary to our plans. Make sure nothing gets in our way," he said, adjourning the meeting and walking towards the backstage. "Oh, and Double-09, if you do indeed get to meet it, allow the same capturing procedures that were intended for Mew. I'll have an extra set of machines ordered."
"Really?! You're kidding. T-That's my assignment?" Domino complained, disbelieved that her boss would consider such a ridiculous story as truth. "Why don't I get phase two or one, instead?"
"Do your job, Double-09. There is no excuse for failures," he scoffed at the blonde and left her grumbling to herself. Walking to the darkness of the exit, he grinned. "I cannot and will never be stopped."
To be in the company of the night sky and stars was a comfort they always sought for. Mew and the three Trainers left Brock's home just after dinner. All prepped and primed, mentally and physically, for the journey to find the hidden spring. Fortunately for them, the Pewter City gym-leader used to visit the place often when he was a child. Upon hearing the quiet sound of the serene waters, the small group rejoiced and made haste towards their destination.
"Here we are," Brock proclaimed as he set down his bag and began to start up the camp. While he was familiar to the place, for Ash and Misty, it was unlike anything they had seen before. Concealed behind thick berry trees and bushes was a spring as blue as Mew's sapphire eyes, perfectly reflecting the cloudless evening sky above. While the area seemed uninhabited, a few nocturnal Pokémon made their way to liven up the branches of the trees and the crystal waters of the spring. The air was cold and fresh, carrying mingled scents of earth, water, wild berries, and flowers.
"Amazing… It's so beautiful here, Brock," Misty said, admiring the place and assisting Togepi as he played on the shallows of the spring.
"Yeah! Check out the cool waterfall!" Ash excitedly exclaimed, pointing to the rushing volumes of water that surged from the cave's mouth.
"Shush, Ash! We're supposed to be quiet!"
"Ow, Misty! You didn't have it hit—!" Ash's complaint was interjected when the wind suddenly began to blow stronger. Any clouds from the sky slowly dispersed away, and the full moon's reflection glowed vividly on the spring's waters.
Mew stared at her reflection. I can feel him. He will be here very soon, she nervously told herself. Forcing a smile, she then turned around to face her companions. "I am delighted to have you all here with me."
"And we are too Mew," Ash said. "Thanks for bringing us along with you."
Mew nodded. "To be fully honest, I am nervous, Ash. I have not seen Mewtwo for quite some time in person. I wonder… I wonder how the circumstances between us will unfold."
Misty, being her usual comforting self, placed a reassuring yet tender hand over the Pokémon's tiny shoulder. "I'm sure he'll be happy to see you, Mew."
Not for long, the breeze blew even more robust. The three raised their hands over their faces, shielding their eyes from the swirling dust and dirt. After the thin smoke cleared out and the winds settled, a tall, familiar figure stood proudly in front of them.
"Mewtwo! It's you!" Ash was the first to make the merry salutation.
The psychic clone tipped his head towards the boy. He then turned his attention to his smaller rosier counterpart. "Hello, Mew."
His deep voice resonated in her ears, and it sounded so crisp and clear, it took a second for Mew to register that he was there. He was there with her. "M-Mewtwo…" she mumbled.
He held out a paw to her and with firm yet affectionate eyes, asked, "Won't you come and say 'hello'?"
Before Mew could hover over and say anything, Ash excitedly rushed over to Mewtwo's side and asked about the cloned Pokémon as well as if he remembered Pikachu. Misty fumed and was ready to give the oblivious boy a crimson ear when Mew stopped her and amicably told her it was all right.
"Hey, it's Mewtwo!" Ash said. "Pika, pika-pi!" called out Pikachu by his shoulder.
"I see that Mew has ultimately decided to bring you three. However, I am certainly surprised that you met her as you have met me once again before," Mewtwo said matter-of-factly.
"I thought it would be nice for them to see you again, Mewtwo. Would you not agree?" Mew said graciously. "Moreover, they helped me out a lot, especially when that awful Team Rocket attempted to capture me."
There was a slight shift in Mewtwo's demeanour. "Team Rocket wanted to capture you?" he asked, sounding concerned.
Mew nodded. "There were three of them, a young man, woman, and a Meowth who is capable of conversing with the human-tongue," she told him. Giggling, she added, "Fortunately for us, they did not appear to be so brilliant after all!"
Relieved it was not Giovanni, Mewtwo closed his eyes and nodded. "Forgive me if I appear to treat your story with less urgency than I should—but I have more pressing matters to discuss with you, Mew. The reason why I came to see you is to explain what occurs in your dreams… and in mine."
This statement definitely caught Mew's attention, as well as the three young Trainers'.
Unanticipatedly, Ash ran up to Mewtwo. "Mew told us about her dreams and that you intervened," he accused. "You've got to tell us what's going on!"
Mewtwo raised a paw and, using Psychic, levitated the Trainers from the ground, positioned their bodies into a cross-legged sit, and sat them flat on the ground.
Ash grumbled, humiliated from being man-handled and moved around like a doll. "You didn't have to do that! You could've just told us to sit down!"
"Knowing you, I would have just received a stubborn retort if I simply told you to sit down. I simply wanted to save my breath." Their little bicker made Mew giggle.
As soon as things appeared to have settled into a more serious atmosphere, Mewtwo began his discourse. "Mew's dreams are no ordinary dreams. I believe they could be visions of the future. Mew's encounters with such tragic events and the evil figures could be the underlying forms of what may manifest in this real world." Mewtwo turned his head to face Mew, who was seated beside him on a smooth rock. "The fire, and the silhouetted figure of a human…they represent something that could destroy what you care most about."
Mew gave her clone a narrow stare. "But how do you know all this? Please tell me why you involve yourself in my dreams," she modestly asked.
Mewtwo looked at the three who sat in front of him. Each kept a watchful and intent gaze. "Truth be told, ever since we lost touch from the day we moved from Mount Quena, I… I wanted to contact you. To inquire how you were faring. Yet as I did, I noticed that you seemed to have trouble having a good night's rest. Using my psychic powers, I linked my dreams to yours to see for myself what was wrong, initially having no intentions of interfering. It was only the other night that I had considered that I should help you," Mewtwo explained, affixing his thin amethyst eyes to Mew's rounder sapphire ones.
Though they remained still and silent, the Trainers felt their hearts pound with joy after learning of Mewtwo's unusual yet genuine concern for Mew.
Mewtwo sighed and continued, "I had noticed a pattern in your nightmares. Everything would begin peacefully, then this harmony would soon be disrupted and, eventually, destroyed by some inevitable enigma. It was significant to me—I also had those nightmares before, and strongly believe that the one particular character in your dream is also after me."
Mew held the end of her tail, looking at her counterpart. "Tell me clearly, why did you interfere in my dreams? What made you interfere that night?"
The three young Trainers' attention shifted from whoever spoke. Mewtwo nodded as he explained himself, "I interfered for I would not have forgiven myself if I just stood by and witnessed you be crushed by that shadow ball. I did not intervene earlier in your battle because I thought you could handle yourself well enough. Moreover, intervening would grant me the power to take control of your dream; I did not wish to do such for I respected your dreams."
"Which is why you told me that I was not the only one in control," Mew reflected as she interlaced everything together. And I was in control… Though I just could not find it in myself to concentrate after the figure had transformed into you, she thought to herself, wishing she could say the words out loud.
"Yes," Mewtwo confirmed. "And that is why you could not wake up on your own. Forgive me, Mew."
Mew was surprised with the sudden, unexpected apology. Mewtwo was known for his self-righteousness and pride—one not accustomed to apologies. This made Mew smile inwardly, telling herself that there was so much more to learn about him. "There is no need to apologise," she said to him, appreciative of his humble act of contrition. Before Mewtwo could utter a response, she teleported behind him and placed her small paws around his neck in a delicate embrace. "Thank you. Thank you for waking me."
The display of affection before them made the Trainers each share happy thoughts and emotions with one another. Brock folded his arms and grinned. Misty squealed, her eyes shining as she hugged Togepi close. She then turned to look at Ash, who returned her bright smile with his own. Even Pikachu seemed surprised.
Mewtwo's eyes grew wide as Pokéballs. This was the first time that Mew, or anyone else, has shown him such affection. His hands awkwardly hung by his sides as he processed how to react. With some encouragement from the red-haired Trainer, he raised his paws over Mew's body and enveloped her in his arms. At this, Mew glanced up to gaze into his fierce eyes, surprised to see that Mewtwo was already looking at her. It seemed that he was lost in the reflection of the moon in her eyes.
As amethyst met sapphire, Mewtwo felt his throat go dry. "Mew… I…"
Just before Mewtwo could attempt to reassemble the gossamer of thoughts that are in disarray, Mew suddenly cried out. She squeezed her paws against her head and writhed around from the intense pain.
"MEW!" The three hurriedly approached her and inquired what was going on.
"Mew! What is wrong?" Vigilant, Mewtwo took hold of Mew to steady her. "Please, Mew. Tell me what is going on!"
Just then, Mew's once blue eyes shone into a pink glow. Her body lifted from Mewtwo's hold and, before she knew it, everything went black.
Mew woke to the sight of the Tree of Beginning. Yet, everything that surrounded her was not the home she knew. The trees were dead, uprooted from the grounds. There was no flora, but the ashen grounds that smelled of gun-powder and rusted steel. An explosion sounded from a distance. Men and women in black uniforms with a striking scarlet "R" captured what remained of the Pokémon. Some merely surrendered. Black metal tanks continued to crush and damage the lush ground. Its fumes poisoned the air. What is happening?
Gasping for breath, Mew roused with her heart threatening to pound out her chest. She sat up from the stump of the tree and was immediately met with concerned and worried pairs of eyes. Tension built up inside her, and she felt an adrenaline course through her veins.
"Mew! You're all right!" Brock was the first to speak.
"You had us worried there. You suddenly blacked out," Misty said.
Mewtwo approached her side, and bending one knee, leaned in closer to her. "Mew, what happened there? Was it… a vision?"
Unsure of what to say or think, Mew cried out. "Oh, it's horrible, Mewtwo! The Tree of Beginning! My home! It's going to be destroyed, and I need to save it!"
Ash clenched his hand into a fist. "We'll help you, Mew! We'll all help to save your home!" Misty and Brock agreed with firm nods.
Mewtwo folded his arms and waited for his counterpart to decide. "Whatever you must do, whatever your decision, I will stand with you."
Emboldened with the strength of her friends, Mew thanked each Trainer with a graceful bow. With a knowing nod from Mewtwo, both psychic Pokémon used Psychic and carried the three as they flew towards the Tree of Beginning. Each individual, be human or Pokémon, braced themselves for a fight they are uncertain of emerging victorious.
